Priced at JPY 158, the Merry Farming Kit includes a tablet of compressed, dry soil that's just the right size to fit inside a standard plastic soda bottle cap along with basil seeds for planting.

Urban gardeners need only place the soil in a cap, moisten it, and plant the seeds, as specified in the accompanying directions. After that, all that's left to do is wait for the seeds to germinate and grow up into full-sized plants.

Merry Project is planning to expand the selection of seeds it has available, according to its site.

A record player created from a piece of corrugated cardboard that folds into an envelope. Once assembled, a record can be spun on the player with a pencil. The vibrations go through the needle and are amplified in the cardboard material.

The players were sent out to creative directors across North America as a creative demonstration of GGRP's sound engineering capabilities.

This statue of a guardian type robot near Odessa in Ukraine is made from old, junked cars, among other things.  Apparently it was constructed by a logistics company called TIS (Transinvestservice) in order to serve as a signpost of sorts.  Now, instead of telling visitors to take a left at the 161km post, they can just say “Turn when you come upon awesomeness.”

"The roundel first appeared on Underground station platforms in 1908. The bar and circle, as it became known, comprised a solid red enamel disc and horizontal blue bar. These early roundels, framed with timber mouldings, were introduced as station nameboards. The new device gave prominence to the name of the station, and helped passengers distinguish it from surrounding commercial advertising."
