Broken Social Scene - “Anthems for a seventeen year-old girl” (4:36)

This, to the best of my knowledge, is the only Broken Social Scene song I have ever heard. It was enough to bowl me over six years ago, and still lives on thanks to its simple theme and solid emotion.

It made a (very) brief appearance in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, just enough to make me nearly gasp at yet another Canadian reference in the movie and that as soon as I heard a couple notes, the scene was made so much more sad.

I live in this world. It’s a legal requirement, and a fairly recent one at that (it falls under CAN-SPAM). Even electronic newsletters must contain a physical-world contact method. No trouble comes to companies that don’t do it until someone decides to take it to higher authorities. Same deal as most web accessibility laws: almost universally ignored and only followed by companies doing the right thing but looking like out of touch jerks for it.

From the CAN-SPAM guide, keeping in mind that many groups (such as ours) send hundreds of thousands of 100% legitimate and customer-wanting emails per year:

“Each separate email in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act is subject to penalties of up to $16,000”

- Until the order shipped I hadn’t stopped to think that several items that are solid and 12 feet wide apiece cannot be folded into a much smaller package. This also explains why shipping cost nearly as much as the items themselves.

Today was a fairly busy day. Shot a downhill longboard race. A ton of photos are coming- I’m turning it into a proper set and blog post tomorrow. After the longboard race it was off to photograph a dragon boat race.

Right now we’re puppy-sitting my favorite dog in the world (some day I’ll take photos for you all), and I’m still finding it difficult to really get enough free time to kill off items in my to-do list faster than I establish tasks for the list.

On Wednesday I should be putting in the order for some studio gear, which should allow me to photograph people in RAD MANOR. This plan is still very much in effect and rolling forward, just a little slower than originally scheduled. All the same, MaxFunCon is in ten months and I’ve got to show up better than ever or else I won’t be welcome again in 2012.

We’ll see how well this goes. They don’t give you...

If a robot¹ was able to take your job, you didn’t have a job worth keeping. You just didn’t know it yet. Build skills that require you, not just a business process.
