ASH Hotels recently acquired an early 20th century Renaissance Revival building in downtown Detroit, which once housed the famous Wurlitzer Company. The planned hotel redevelopment, with an estimated project cost of $21 million, will require a comprehensive historic restoration and breathe new life into what is currently a blighted landmark that has remained vacant for several decades. There will be 106 guest rooms, in addition to a carefully curated food, beverage, and retail program, including one of Detroit's only rooftop bars with views into Comerica Park.

ELEMENT HOTEL AT THE METROPOLITAN BUILDING

Marriott International / Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announced Element Hotels, its stylish eco-incubator brand, will debut in Detroit in July of 2018, following an adaptive re-use project that will transform the historic Metropolitan Building into an upscale mixed-use development. Element Detroit at the Metropolitan Building will be owned and developed by Metropolitan Hotel Partners, LLC, a joint venture between Detroit-based Means Group and Roxbury Group, and will feature 110 light-filled rooms and an atmosphere designed to fuel a life in balance and on the move.

Acting as owner, co-developer, and manager, Aparium—working hand-in-hand with developer Walter Cohen—is in the midst of transforming the historic Detroit Fire Department Headquarters into the Foundation Hotel. The 100 room independent hotel adds another piece to the ongoing Detroit renaissance puzzle. The $28 million project draws on the Motor-City’s unparalleled past while proactively moving the city to its next incarnation as a national cultural, business, and artistic touch-point. Scheduled for an early 2017 opening, The Foundation Hotel will help kick-start the local economy by bringing 100 full and part-time jobs to the Detroit market.
