4. Performancing - In addition to checking out our job board, check out some great articles and forum posts about blogging.
5. Craigslist - Don’t laugh. Craigslist is an amazing resource. I found one of my biggest corporate clients on Craigslist. Just be sure to keep a wary eye out for scams and people who want something for nothing.
6. Indeed - Try this job search engine to narrow down your search. Better yet, use the Indeed search box in the sidebar to the right.
7. Writers Weekly - I found my first freelance writing gig through Angela Hoy’s list at Writer’s Weekly.
8. Freelance Writing - Though this is a haven for extremely low paying jobs, you might find a gem or two.
9. Blogger Jobs - A blog listing blogging jobs and bloggers looking for jobs.
10. Poe War - A daily stop for freelance writing and blogging jobs and advice.
11. BlogHer -I found my gig with Oxygen Media here. Occasionally you’ll find some very cool stuff.
12. Gawker - A very cool list of “New Media” opportunities. Many of these jobs pay very well.
13. Media Bistro - If the big magazines and newspapers are hiring freelancers, you’ll find it here.
14. WAHM - Lists several telecommuting jobs, including freelance writing and blogging jobs, a few times a week.
15. Freelance Switch - Jobs for all sorts of freelancers including writers, bloggers and web stuff.
16. Telecommuting-Writing Jobs - One of the regulars, Amy Derby, has created a resource for telecommuters including freelance writing jobs.
17. Sunoasis Jobs -A regularly updated job lis. I haven’t had any luck here, but you might!
18. Absolute Write - Occasionally lists jobs in their forum.
19. Journalism Jobs - Plenty of freelance writing jobs.

23. Freelancing for Blogs - This is a new one for me, but I’ll be checking it out more often.

First you will need a pen and paper (or a computer) and some quiet time. Take five minutes or so to write down all your skills and interests. Leave nothing out. If you once worked in a pizzeria when you were ten, add that to the list. Mom skills are to be included, so that means mending, ironing, etc.

Once you have your basic list, go down and cross off everything you hate to do. For me that would include laundry and ironing!

This should leave you with a considerably shorter list. Now comes the hard part. Try to think of a business idea for each skill you have put down. If you come up with more than one, that’s great! For example, if you put down cooking, you might write “catering”, “frozen dinners”, “home bakery”, etc. Don’t start to judge the ideas yet, just let them flow. This part of the process can take some time, so if you have to, do it over a few days.

Once you have your business ideas, run down the list and choose the three that appeal to you most. Write them down on a separate piece of paper and write out the pros and cons. For example, let’s say I chose “catering”, “home child care”, and “freelance writing”. I would then write the negative and positive side of each one. Here is how I worked out freelance writing.

Pros: Flexible hours, at home all the time, I enjoy it, good pay if you get good assignments

Cons: Long hours on the computer, poor pay to start with, very unstable.

If you have more pros or cons than the other, you might want to ditch the idea. Select the best idea and start working out a theoretic business plan. If all three ideas lose their appeal once you really start thinking about them, go back and select another three.

This should help you narrow down, if not pinpoint, the perfect home business for you.

1. Freecycle is a local service that allows you to find free items that are in need of a new home. You might be surprised by what you can find on Freecycle. You can find many business items including desks, chairs, and office supplies. What a great way to save money and get some new life out of office supplies.

2. Craigslist. Computers, printers, desks, file cabinets and more can be found for low costs or free. Yes, free. Many businesses or government agencies may list office supplies for free and you only need to provide transportation to pick them up. You can also offer to trade if you have an item of value that you think could work. It never hurts to ask.

3. Pennysaver or local ads. Check you free local papers for opportunities to pickup free office supplies. I recently saw an ad for free paper from a local printer that was clearing out a warehouse. The paper was yellow and gray, but would still work for many people. Also perfect if you have kids and need paper for arts and crafts.

Get creative and you can find discount or free office supplies for your business. Don’t be afraid to offer a trade opportunity and you might walk away with a great deal. In these economic times, you should look for further ways to stretch your home office budget and try alternatives like freecycle or Pennysaver.
