Recipe Blitz – Nacho Cheese Dip

In this second installation of football food, today we present Nacho Cheese Dip. This recipe was submitted by two of our very own Lakeside team members, Debbie and Mary. This recipe is probably the one of the quickest and easiest recipes out there.

Ingredients

2 cans of Hormel chili no beans
1 package of Velveeta mild Mexican cheese
Doritos or Tostitos chips

Directions

Spray microwave safe dish with Pam. Mix the chili and cheese together in the dish and cover. Microwave for 5 minutes, stirring every couple minutes. Serve with your choice of chips.

Recipe Blitz – Buffalo Chicken Dip

Are you ready for some—FOOD! The big game is this weekend and everyone is looking forward to noshing. This week we are blitzing the Lakeside blog with great recipe ideas for Sunday.

Today we feature Buffalo Chicken Dip, courtesy of allrecipes.com

Ingredients

2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup Ranch dressing
3/4 cup pepper sauce (such as Frank’s Red Hot®)
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 bunch celery, cleaned and cut into 4 inch pieces
1 (8 ounce) box chicken-flavored crackers

Directions

Heat chicken and hot sauce in a skillet over medium heat, until heated through. Stir in cream cheese and ranch dressing. Cook, stirring until well blended and warm. Mix in half of the shredded cheese, and transfer the mixture to a slow cooker. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top, cover, and cook on Low setting until hot and bubbly. Serve with celery sticks and crackers.

Today is Penguin Awareness Day (according to holidayinsights.com). This day was created to encourage people to learn about and appreciate penguins, though some take it a step further and don tuxedos for the occasion. On This Day – 18th Amendment

On this day in 1919, the 18^th Amendment to the US Constitution (prohibiting the “manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors for beverage purposes”) was ratified. This Amendment was in effect for almost 15 years until the 21^st Amendment (repealing the 18^th Amendment) was ratified in December 1933.

We can’t help but wonder how we would have marketed this favorite Lakeside product back in the 1920’s (before the repeal of prohibition)…
