Summer camps are coming up!     We offer an opportunity to girls or boys, 7-12 to try a new craft in small groups with our Down Cellar instructors. Fun with Fiber and Fabric!! Down Cellar Sock Yarn Blanket Free Knit-a-long and Swap

The Backstory (from Kathy):

I knit a lot of shawls and socks and, invariably, I end up with some extra at the end of each project.  Not really enough to do anything with, but it’s yarn and I can’t throw it away!

A short while ago, someone in Down Cellar’s Ravelry group posted a picture of a blanket she had made entirely of sock yarn- a beautiful collection of mitered squares.  It’s one of the prettiest things I’ve ever seen!  And so, I decided to make one of my own.

After finishing about 15 squares, I posted a picture on Ravelry.  Lo and behold, a few days later I was contacted by a lovely woman in British Columbia who was working on the same project.  She suggested that we swap some yarn- and so an idea was born!

When, Where, What!   We will meet at Down Cellar on the 3^rd Sunday of each month from 3:00 to 4:30.  You must sign up, purchase 1 skein of Down Cellar sock yarn, and  provide your  e-mail address.  Each month I will send out an e-mail reminder to which you must RSVP.  This will let me know how many people are coming and how many 10-yard  balls of yarn you will need to bring!  You will come with these balls of yarn and a set of needles, size 1-4, whichever is most comfortable for you. You can come to any or all of the free sessions!

You will learn how to make the squares and how to join them- they are joined as you go along, so there’s no sewing!  You will create a permanent memorial of projects you’ve worked on, and of the new friends you’ve met in the knit-a-long.  The best part?  You can make the piece as big or small as you like, and gauge is not important!

    Our Fantastic Flock of Bus Trippers should be recovered from the Maryland Sheep and Wool trip last Saturday – great weather, lots to see, great group, such fun!! thank you and sign up early next year!  We found two items on the bus – so if you are missing something, call the shop, we may have it..

   Knit along!   Autumn Shawl – so cute, wear it as a shawl or scarf!  So versatile and great for summer eves.   2 skeins, free pattern and us!  It seems the whip stitch is throwing folks a bit – we will show you and help you with anything else you need.  Great way to learn yo’s and k2tog (for free)  May 17th  11-12, or May 25 4-5.  join us!

Whew!  what a weekend!  The Garden State Yarn Crawl was a blast!  Thank you to all that stopped by and Congratulations to our winners:  Gayle P won the Yarn Crawl Basket. Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival

Spend a great day with us experiencing fleece to fancy!

Pet the alpacas, bid on a spinning wheel, see handspun, handyed beautiful fibers.  Garden plants, delicious foods, exhibits and music!

Meet at Oak St School parking lot 6:15 am.  Our wonderful Bus leaves for our trip from here.

Gourmet breakfast on board along with Fantastic Prizes for all!

Help us with a service project – We give you the yarn (more details to follow)

We will arrive approx 10:30 – enjoy the day seeing and shopping!  Many on trip come alone or with a friend and we all make some new friends during the day….

Back on bus  at 3:30 to show and tell. More yummy snacks and treats for the ride home.

Arrive back in Basking Ridge approx 6:30
