The July issue is still shaping up – but there are some great articles in there so far. There is an extensive interview with Ojo Taylor (Undercover), where he discusses some Christian music history, some Undercover history, current projects, and some deep issues of what he now believes. Then there is an interview with members of 4-4-1, where they touch on everything from recent concerts and re-issues to the state of the music industry. We also get the low down on Paravell, a great new band making some waves. Steve also chats with Bill Walden, original lead singer for Undercover. Bill has managed to find a way to believe that homosexuality is a sin but still be friends with people in that lifestyle. A very informative story. The Tattoo You column covers Ryan Weaver (Joe Christmas, Spudgun, World Against World) and his tattoo art. And Sterling! The bassist of Veil of Ashes speaks. Whew – what else could you want? How about a new column by none other than Josh Lory himself and a ton of reviews. You won’t want to miss this issue.

Seems like there is always an attempt afoot to rescue the back catalog of the Frontline/Intense/Alarma media empire. I remember way back in the day when an add in HM magazine announced they were just straight-out re-pressing some of the classics: “don’t miss them this time around!” it said.
Seems like there is always an attempt afoot to rescue the back catalog of the Frontline/Intense/Alarma media empire. I remember way back in the day when an add in HM magazine announced they were just straight-out re-pressing some of the classics: “don’t miss them this time around!” it said. Then KMG came along and… well… gave a new meaning to the word cheap.

Now we have a new label called Intense Millennium Records. Their goal is to form a group that is “dedicated to releasing fully licensed material from one of the most prolific group of record labels to exist in the Christian Metal scene, the Intense/Frontline/Alarma Records group.” First up are a pair each from Vengeance Rising and Bloodgood, as well as Sacred Warrior’ first album.

A little focused on only the metal side for now, but I did notice they said Alarma. I also see that you can vote for a few punk-ish albums by Altar Boys and Scaterd Few. Starting in 2011 they will re-issue two CDs a month. They plan to re-master each album and release them with new artwork and booklets.

Sounds like a good idea. Not sure about the new artwork idea. I know retroactive does that occasionally – but it seems to be only in some cases (such as Deliverance). The new artwork for Human Sacrifice looks good, but there was nothing wrong with the original. Not sure I like the new artwork for Once Dead. But we’ll see – could work out just fine. Wonder how long it will be before they get to classics by L.S.U., Daniel Amos, Swirling Eddies, etc… or even the more obscure titles? Hope they do. Now if we could get some people to also take on other labels like R.E.X. and Broken.

Congratulations to Johnny Bradford, the winner of our Choir pre-order package. We had several great entries, but to quote the immortal Duncan McLeod: “there can be only one.” Can you tell what I have been watching on Hulu recently?
The July issue is shaping up also – more details coming soon.

We here at Down The Line are pleased to offer our first contest, and extra excited that there is such a great prize! As you may know, The Choir is one of the pioneering alternative bands in music today. They are releasing a new album, Burning Like the Midnight Sun, sometime around the end of June and we are pleased to announce that the Down The Line contest winner will receive:

“Package A” Pre-Order
- Private gathering and acoustic performance in Nashville July 24th 2010
- 2 Autographed CDs
- Instant access to download the first track “Midnight Sun”
- 1 T-Shirt
- 2 Interview Discs
- Audio Stems

VIP invitation for two people to attend a private gathering with The Choir in Nashville, TN on July 24th, 2010. This event will take place at Dan’s house and will include food, swimming, a listening party and special acoustic performance. We’ll start this shin-dig around 2pm and go whenever it is time to quit! This offer will be limited to the first 25 Package A pre-orders. You will need to be responsible for your travel and lodging to/from Nashville. Details, directions and contact information will be provided to you shortly after you place your order.

Package A also includes the new CD (autographed), T-shirt, interview disc (this cd is a full length professionally produced audio special with music from the new album, song-by-song commentary by Steve Hindalong plus questions submitted by Choir friends answered by members of The Choir), stems disc of entire record (this is a disc of the separate mix files for those who’s profession or hobby is mixing/engineering and would like to take a shot of making your own mix of any/all of the songs from the new CD. We encourage you to post your own mixes online and we will promote links to your versions from our site).

*Note about the T-Shirt* While we don’t have the final design of the T-shirt to display during this pre-order period, please know that it will feature the fabulous artwork from the new CD & the actual shirt material will be very high quality cotton (not the cheap & scratchy 50/50 type).
Cool banner, huh? I like the new artwork for this release. Anyways, Retroactive Records is bringing out a bunch of re-issues for you to check out. Already out is Jimmy Hotz - Beyond the Crystal Sea 30th Anniversary Edition on Born Twice Records (a new sub-label of Retroactive). If you are a fan of ArkAngel, Kemper Crabb, or progressive 70’s rock, you will love this album. Long considered a hard-to-find classic album. Look for a review in the next issue.

Also keep a look out for our first contest, featuring something cool from The Choir for the lucky winner.

Coming Soon from Retroactive Records:

These are all slated for a June release. There are also some other good albums coming out from Retroactive on down the line, as well as some great albums from some other labels and bands. Holy Blood is supposed to have a new one out soon – not sure where or how, but I will be happy to hear more black metal mixed with folk music. I’ll see if I can dig up more details on that one. I just saw mention of a colossal 10 CD box set from Glen Rowlands, so I will try to get more details on that. The Lost Dogs just put out a new one called Old Angel, but if you are reading this magazine you probably already have that one. If not – go get it! Oh, and of course, The Choir’s new album on the 24th of June. But if I am the first one to tell you that, time to get on Facebook. It’s been everyshere there.

Our new special issue is sure to turn some heads and cause a stir. Three musicians tell their stories in dealing with Homosexuality, God, and The Church. Think you already know what they have to say? You might want to think again and read with an open mind. Featuring in-depth interviews with Sean Doty (most famous for his work with Veil of Ashes), Dug Pinnick (of King’s X), and Ric Alba (most famous for his work with The Altar Boys). There is also a special historical pictorial section dedicated to Veil of Ashes fliers, promo images, and other pictures. Download for free here:

We haven’t taken any sides or tried to change anyone’s minds – we are just letting these three musicians tell their stories. This is an issue that most churches either ignore… or throw too many stones at.
