Last summer I had the pleasure of taking a trip which included a drive through 19 states in 10 days. It was a considerable amount of driving but a wonderful encounter with history and nostalgia. Each city and town seemed to boast a special person or event that helped shape our country. One thing that really impressed me was the how many times I found myself on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd in so many different cities and towns.
There are Martin Luther King Jr Blvds in Dallas, Chicago and Chapel Hill. There were other streets and highways named after him in other cities, I wish I had counted them all. At one point on the trip, I recall seeing another sign for Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and I briefly could not remember what city or state I was driving through at the time.
Just what qualities did this man possess that made so many considered him great? Even if a person didn't believe in what he was preaching, there was no denying his great influence. Why? To get the answer I did not have to look far. Martin Luther King Jr himself knew the answer - just have a dream or a new direction and funnel all your energy to getting that dream. With a dream or a vision anyone can learn to be a leader.

He prefers to hire others for the kinds of jobs that would take his energy from the things he is really good at. Do some honest self analysis to gain insight about your own strengths and weaknesses.
A leader can delegate and choose the right man for the job. He should be able to differentiate between the groups of candidates for a particular duty. A leader can only get required support from his group of members only when he has made right decision to select his group members. The key is selecting people to do the jobs that correspond to their own strengths.
A good leader is one who has high targets and makes consistent efforts to achieve those targets. With body he gets tired but by mind he is never tired and his mind is always striving to achieve better; growth is his very first objective.
A good leader is one who is commitment bounded. He always fulfills his promises. He never lets his goodwill go down and always works to strive for perfection and to achieve goals for the satisfaction of others. In other words, he takes care for the rights and interests of his group members.
Leadership can be situational and is achieved by life experiences. Every leader has their unique style and you can find your own utilizing, practicing and growing these 5 qualities. When you can step up into a leadership position you will find others looking up to you for that new direction. You can be a spearhead for a new direction.

Time management is not only about how your organize your time, it's also about how you spend your time. Often, you can save time by doing more than one thing at once. Find out how you can optimize your time use, while still getting the job done right.
1. Phone Time
When you're on the phone, nobody can see you (except maybe through the windows of your office). Because you don't have to be making eye contact with somebody, you can do simple exercises. This is not a time to do anything that requires brainpower: you want to devote your entire attention to the phone conversation. However, you can do automatic activities. You might not even want to count your repetitions.
I have improved my health by doing minor exercises and stretching while I'm on a conference call, I can easily stretch or do light repetitive weights.
Another thing that I sometimes do on the phone is simple organizational tasks. If my desk is cluttered before a phone call, or if I have a drawer that is cluttered, I will use the phone call time to clear out that drawer. As long as you are doing simple tasks that don't detract from your conversation, using phone time can be key.
2. Car Time
What can you do while you're in the car? While I'm in the car, I listen to audiobooks. Even though I live fairly close to work, I find that in a ten minute drive each way I can get through a lot of audio material. I also have an Apple Ipod, so that I can listen to audio material while I'm flying. Frequently, there is time that I can cover audio material when I wouldn't be able to cover anything else, because I am doing something else concurrently.
While you're driving, it's important to drive safely. If you are going to talk on a cell phone while you drive, use a hands-free set. You can also use a Dictaphone while you drive: this is another great time saver that allows you to remember and organize your thoughts. While dictating, remember to use bullet points while you talk aloud: just because you are speaking it, doesn't mean it has to be a complete sentence.
3. Workout Time
While you're exercising, you can often read depending on what kind of exercise you are doing. You can listen to audio material while exercising. I find that listening to audiobooks while I exercise is a valuable tool because I am often distracted and so do not focus on how much longer I have in each run, or how many more sets I have to do.
Another way to optimize your workout time is to spend your exercise time with a friend, so you will be able to catch up while both maintaining a level of fitness. Having a workout friend will not only allow you to stay in touch easily, it will also motivate you to workout at a higher level.
4. Television Time
While you're watching TV, you can use your extra time to stretch or exercise. The perfect place for an exercycle or treadmill is in front of the TV. How fit would you be if you never watched TV without exercising. You can even read light material that you need to get through but might not require your complete attention.
You can also use your television time for doing chores around the house. If you need to husk corn or snap peas for dinner, you can do that easily in front of the TV. You can also dust one area of the house while watching a show. Other tasks, such as giftwrapping or filing can be done in front of the TV if you have your set up properly done.
5. Wait Times
It is best to always be prepared for wait times. Even if you only have two or three minutes to wait, why not spend that time reading a book or magazine? You'd be surprised at the number of tasks you can accomplish in three or four minute bursts.
The key to multitasking is to choose your times wisely. You want to get each task done well, and so you should avoid multitasking if it will lower the quality of your work. Find out what works best for you: experiment with your time use. You will eventually find a system that improves your time use, and gives you more time for the things you want to do.

Brian made the varsity basketball team as a sophomore last year, which rarely ever happens at Dover High School. Not only did he make the team, but he was the starting forward, and led the team in rebounding and finished second on the team in scoring. That was last season. Now, as a junior, he knew this was his year to take over the team. He would have college coaches coming to watch his games, and recruiters would be calling to speak with him. If he continued to play well and improve, this would most likely mean a free college education for Brian - and as his father, I was all for that!

But Brian started off the season playing well below his standards. It seemed like he lacked concentration and motivation, and his play was unusually slow and sloppy. He still was able to score like he did last year, but he was getting by using his pure physical size and strength most of the time instead of his talents. He was still good - but he had the potential to be great ... he just needed a little fire to get there!

I remembered back when I was in high school. I was a football player. Whenever I felt that I needed some motivation before games, I always listened to speeches on tape by my favorite football coaches - Knute Rockne, Vince Lombradi, Bill Walsh. After listening to those guys in the locker room, I would get out on the field and fight my ass off for my team!

And then it hit me - if that worked for me, then it sure as hell should work for Brian too!
