The film offers 14 tracks, including remix versions and theme tracks.

It starts on a rocking note with the already popular number Chammak Challo. A clear winner all the way, the song, which has Hindi, English and Tamil words in the lyrics, makes you groove.

An interesting thing about the track is that it's crooned by international artist Akon, who has voiced not just the English lyrics but Hindi ones too. Hamika Iyer supports him by singing Tamil words. A fun dance number, Chammak Challo is here to stay and it will surely become DJs' favourite.

The song also has a few other versions, including a remix by Abhijit Vaghani, another remix by DJ Khushi and an international version.
Then comes Dildaara, a mush melody at its best. Sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali, it has John Lennon's song Stand by me mixed into it and the combination is interesting. The song boasts of various genres.

Then comes another Akon number called Criminal, a peppy and upbeat track that also has Vishal Dadlani and Shruti Pathak behind the mike. An amalgamation of Hindi and English lyrics, Criminal is a perfect party number.

It also has a remixed version by DJ Amit.

Next is Bhare Naina and it will make you sit up and take notice. The song has been sung by The Prague Philharmonic Choir, the chorus group that came here all the way from the Czech Republic to sing the song with Nandini Srikar and Vishal-Shekhar. If the semi-classical flavour in the number sets a pensive mood, use of orchestration takes it to another level. The choir makes the song sound very international, but its soul and feel are Indian.

Then there is Right By Your Side, an ordinary composition crooned by Sidd Coutto. A regular fast-paced composition, it is a happy and exuberant track.

Raftaarein reminds one of RD Burman compositions. Sung by Vishal-Shekhar, it is a perfect chase track. The style of composition is very similar to that of Burman and, despite being a situational track, it leaves its mark.

Up next is Jiya Mora Ghabraaye, a fusion of rock and semi- classical. It has a very strong musical arrangement and impressive vocals by Vishal Dadalani and Sukhwinder Singh and the song will be liked by hard rock lovers. Interesting composition and a good attempt.

Then the album offers three instrumental theme tracks called Comes The Light, I'm On and Song Of The End.

On the whole the album is worth buying and offers some interesting and entertaining tracks. Kudos to the music composers!

Force - 2011 | Hindi Song

After Kakka Kakka and Gharshana, the song that is Khwabon Khwabon here, is as good as it was back in 2003 and 2004. Yes, it has the potential to be a rage here as well, especially with the Gibberish Suchitra is performing for the third time. Do listen.

The next, Chahoon bhi is nothing less than awesome. Bombay Jaishree sings the gem with her usual superbness, but when Karthik enters the song, the quality goes only up. A superb, lovely, slow, must-listen number. Hats off to Harris Jayaraj. As far as I know, it’s a new composition by him. Let me know if I am wrong there.

Dum hai to Aaja, composed by Lalit Pandit and sung by Mahua Kamat, is a simple tune with not-too-hard rock style. Lalit Pandit is not too great with his music, nor are the lyrics too great. Mahua could be better, and the same goes for the song.

Main Chali, again a composition of Harris, clearly states his re-entry in the album within seconds. The song sung by Naresh Iyer and Shreya singing reminds me of the earlier days of Rahman, or to some extent Ghajini in its arrangement. Totally worth a try, especially for the variety of music he has put in one song. And yes, it is Shreya Ghoshal only, a little difficult to believe at some points, even though she sings in her typical style.

For the last song again, you don’t need the album’s cover to decide who has composed this one. Harris this time brings in Vijay Prakash, Shalini Singh and Neha Bhasin for Dil ki hai Tamanna. The music is light and simple, with basic, light arrangements, while vocals take priority once again, and Vijay Prakash just amazes with his voice. Neha Bhasin’s voice is well used too.

Overall, Force is awesomeness from Harris. The only thing I am wondering about is why the producers asked Lalit for a song. With this kind of music, even Munni would not fit well.

Despite a minimal instrumental backing, Sanjay Leela Bhansali proves his arranging acumen in the ambient title song. The harmonica, the violin have all been perfectly placed to make the song instantly addictive. Also helping it on its way is the rendition by KK and Shail Hada. That said, one cannot ignore the resemblance to tracks from some of his older movies, particularlyHDDCS’s title song. Sau Gram Zindagi is a very 90s-sounding ghazal-based tune given a modern orchestral packaging, and coming inKunal Ganjawala’s voice it works quite well. Shail Hada reappears with Rakesh Pandit to deliver the poem-like Tera Zikr. Though the poem-line rules out an attractive tune for the song per se, SLB kind of makes it up with the arrangement. And wonderful singing by the vocalists, especially Rakesh.

And then things start going wrong. In Saiba, Bhansali’s attempt to fuse the Latino sound with Vibhavari Joshi’s semiclassical vocals falls flat. Somehow they don’t seem to meld well. KK’s Jaane Kiskesounds quite a bit like the title song in its general feel, but lacks the quality the latter has in orchestration. The only thing that keeps the track going is KK’s reliability. The composer bounces back with the next track, Udi, where the Arabic elements in arrangement make for a wonderful listen coupled with Sunidhi’s exuberance.

In Keh Na Sakoon SLB once again returns to the orchestral melancholic theme of arrangement and ends up being one too many in that line. Shail Hada does a good job behind the microphone but that is not enough to prop this one up. Chaand Ki Katori is an excellent display of Harshdeep Kaur’s vocal brilliance and it is her singing for major part that makes the song enjoyable. Daayein Baayein sounds like a mellow version ofSaawariya’s title song and works in a similar manner, KK doing the honors for a third time. Dhundhli Dhundhli is credited to Shankar Mahadevan who sounds strangely different in this one. Apart from that I found nothing very interesting about the track, the orchestral arrangement getting way too tedious by now.

A decent debut as composer from Sanjay Leela Bhansali which would have been much better had he cut down on the number of songs, especially the similar-genre ones. But that was the case with Saawariya too. One would have expected SLB to learn from his past mistakes. Hope he’s done that at least on the movie front.

ANTAGONISTIC! Indian films have been benevolent to suave natured 'protagonists' but its darker and parallel versions ('antagonistic' or 'anti-hero') have not been justified by many. After delivering out back-to-back socially relevant cinematic treats, genius like Mani Ratnam is all set for the countdown that pitches the hottest pair of Abhsishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. As expected from the long-list of musical successes of the past, its old compatriot A.R Rahman along with experienced Gulzar to deliver out the devilish tones for this horrifying love saga. The conglomerate of Mani Ratnam and A.R Rahman stared off with bang with ROJA (1992) that was successfully followed by equally successful albums like BOMBAY (1995), DIL SE (1998), SAATHIYA (2002), YUVA (2004) and GURU (2006). Expectations are huge and so are the credits of this much-awaited musical releases that features favorites of maestro's in the credits. Touted to be one of biggest releases of year 2010, this one promises something innovative as well as experimental in its packaging. Can the music of RAAVAN be as enterprising and challenging as one expects? Let's get straight into its musical facts...!

Ghastly in mood 'n' iconic in narration, A.R Rahman pelts out innovative spell of 'African tribal rhythms and sounds' to exude out the characteristics of lead character in 'Beera'. Gulzar's hot-headed narration is facsimile to his earlier penned 'Omkara' (OMKARA), depicting out 'ten' different facades, moods and phases of 'Beera'. Rahman's creative genius creates different drum sounds in varied pitches and timbres mixing well with prolong synth sounds in flows of electronic dance music. Vijay Prakash and Mustafa Kutaone's gruffly voices range from aggressive to cheerful moods while additional vocals by Keerti Sagathia adds to the gory situational needs. To give it tribal folklore appeal, there are rigorous spells of howling choral sounds in loud pitches to deliver out festive feel in the backdrop. 'Beera' adds to the listing of another valued experimental mode track that unravels new genre (tribal music) and creates hysterical feel about the on-screen happenings. Tread-milling the path of emotionally volatile tracks like 'Satrangi Re' (DIL SE -1998 ), the next track titled 'Behene De' carries typical Rahman's stamp in its belligerent arrangements, sounds and beats. The highlight of the track is the progressive phili-harmonic orchestral displays at the concluding interludes, emoting out the turbulent phases in love-chemistry. Karthik's likable voice in softer tones has penetrative excruciation that carries out with varied sounds and rhythms with affable support of Mohammad Irfan as back-up vocalist. Rahman plays defined 'conductor' in maintaining equilibrium between subtle toned sounds (soft violin notes, lighter wind chimes and soft-drumming) in initial phases and aggressive orchestral displays in the latter half. Despite carrying situational song appeal, Gulzar's wordings ('Arrey aankh se boondh gira koi, Chingari ka tukda jala koi, Umeed ko aag laga zara, Sehra ki pyaas bujha zara...) metaphors the communicable painful ire of disheartened lover in simple verses. For all Rahman's fans, this one is listening pleasure that adds to the momentum of the album.

Aggression unlimited! The devilish tones of 'Raavan' get louder with daunting melodic metaphors of thumping drumming and shriller percussive moves in 'Thok De Killi'. It's Sukhwinder Singh along with Gulzar's wordings at the helm of affairs and the feel is violently antagonistic in nature. Like previous tracks, this one is too loaded with heavy-duty impulsive sounds and rhythms that give it an intrinsically theatrical appeal.
In 'Chhaya Chhaya' (DIL SE -1998), Gulzar introduced 'Bulleh Shah's poetry' base of Sufism that later became trend. It carries forward in 'Ranjha Ranjha', folksy sound number with outset of Punjabi folklore of 'Heer-Ranjha' in its earthen sounding lyrical works. Rahman's relives the euphoric feel of tracks like 'Ni Main Samajh Gayi' and 'Taal Se Taal Mila' (TAAL -1999) with gyrating seductive touches of 'Mayya Mayya' (GURU -2006). Javed Ali sings his heart out along with deep-throated Rekha Bhardwaj while there is added feminine oomph in Anuradha Sriram added vocals. Well suited for grungy forest locations, it bears out skirmish loving charms in its sluggishly roguish tones that are matched with instrumental zeal.

Reena Bhardwaj's soother tones in 'Yeh Rishta' (MEENAXI - A TALE OF THREE CITIES -2004) was blessing to ears. It was A.R Rahman's magic that created prodigy out of her and the magical touches relives again as she shimmers out in her svelte tones in 'Khilli Re'. It works on classical Indian musical base (preferably 'thumri' singing) with mesmerizing flute notes, lighter tabla and 'ghungroo' sounds that are mixed well with enthused chorals. Reena's vocals are the brightest of the lot and so is her immaculate command over modulations and variations in varied emotional singing moods. Unlike the haunting antagonistic feel of the flick, it serenades out soothing musical charms and spells out lighter romantic moments in its sappy packaging.

The last outing comes out for grand opulence for big screen with loud streams of drumming, ear-splitting percussions and folksy singing, mixing together to create commotion of affairs in 'Kata Kata'. Rahman's gets the pack of coarsely voiced singers (Kunal Ganjawala, Ila Arun and Sapna Awasthi) to sing out the tribal-festive feel soundtrack. It's complex and intricate in its formation as tribal instruments, howling chorals and rustic-flavored folksy wordings collage together to give it glitzy multihued splendor. This peculiarly sounded track brings out celebratory feel of 'Rukmini Rukmini' (ROJA -1992) with majestic lavish touches of 'Azeem-o-Shaan Shehenshah' (JODHA AKBAR -2007). Mani Ratnam's experience and intellect is likely to be making this one as everlasting silver screen feast for viewers.

RAAVAN is devilishly experimental and creatively likable album. It's none other than the maestro A.R Rahman himself who can dare to this big challenges of glorifying the ultimate devil ('Raavan') and still delivering out the needful. Despite its intrinsically gruesome and horrifying outlook, the soundtracks fit well in to the situational mood with quality singing and composing. One can expect huge likings for tracks like 'Beera Beera', 'Behene De' and 'Ranjha Ranjha' while rest of them will rise up high with flick's promotions and success. The combo of Mani Ratnam and A.R Rahman had been magical in the past and so will be the future with this music launch. Vishal and Shekhar know the pulse of youth and so their music is usually young, hip and zippy. Repeating the trend, the composer duo has rendered some interesting and upbeat songs that are bound to be liked by music lovers, especially the young generation.

The album boasts of eight tracks, including one remix and one acoustic version.

It sets the mood with its first track Adhoore, which is already making waves among listeners. Crooned by Vishal and Alyssa Mendonsa, the peppy, foot-tapping love song that describes the two main characters in the film is quite interesting and entertaining. A good start to the soundtrack.

The song also has a remix version, which is faster in pace.

The next is Ajab leher that has Neeraj Shridhar, Shekhar Ravjiani and Vishal behind the mike. The upbeat song that talks about one's neighbour makes good use of the saxophone, which is quite appealing. It's catchy and has the potential to become a favourite.

Next is a soft song, Dhoop ke makaan, sung by Shekhar Ravjiani, Sunidhi Chauhan, Caralisa and Mikey Mcclearyu. The track is quite melodious even though the music is subdued and the focus is on vocals and lyrics. A decent number.

The song also has an acoustic version, which is more appealing. It has a raw feel that gives it an edge over the original.

Then there is Dooriyan hain zaroori, a song that talks about the concept of space in a relationship. With rock influences, the song attracts attention. It is catchy and has spunk, which helps it stand tall among the other tracks.

The soundtrack also offers an English song, which is situational. "Don't worry about me" is likeable but, because of the language, might not enjoy mass appeal. Nevertheless, a good hear.

Finally, there is Main jiyoonga that starts with a bang. With piano as its predominant instrument, it generates quite a lot of interest. A good way to end the album.

On the whole, Break Ke Baad offers a robust mix of songs that are hummable and will be enjoyed by a majority of people.

For the most part, Lafangey Parindey trundles along at a fair clip, although it never turns into anything more than a predictable ride. On the way, there is much bump and grind, and flying fists and bloodied noses too. But behind it all is a wholesome human tale that celebrates the doggedness of those that are down and but not out.

The music of the film is simple, easy to understand, yet different. The album boasts of six originals and one remix version.

It starts with Ronit Sarkar singing the title track. The song begins with very middle eastern music, but soon other instruments can be heard. Later it acquires a rock touch and makes it an interesting song for the youngsters. The track, about a group of free spirited people, is already on air and is being appreciated.

Next in line is a light romantic number Man lafanga that begins with the sounds of an acoustic guitar. Mohit Chauhan's voice suits this breezy, enchanting and free flowing song. It is melodious with less orchestration and instantly strikes a chord with the listener.

The song also has a club mix, which is not so appealing.

Things pep up a little with Dhatad tatad, a song about life crooned by Shail Hada and Anushka Manchanda. It has strong orchestration and heavy distortion, but fails to create a mark.

Then there is Nain parindey that has Shilpa Rao behind the mike. The song actually grows on you with its great composition, sedate melody and impressive vocals.

Rang daalein thrives on western beats and has a rock touch. Sung by Suraj Jagan, it is spunky and totally entertaining.

Finally, the album offers an instrumental track Born to fly that is intense and slow in the beginning dominated by a piano and picks up tempo after a few minutes.

On the whole Anandh has made a comeback with an entertaining album.

Chance Pe Dance Songs

Expecting too much from a soundtrack that provides a mixed bag at best is a dangerous move. But then again, is that our fault as listeners? We simply have to expect, expect, and keep expecting. While some expectations are fulfilled, some simply aren’t. The soundtrack of Ken Ghosh's latest movie, Chance pe Dance falls into the unfulfilled category where all we get is a few good dance numbers alongside some poor ones as well. And considering the music composer is Adnan Sami, who does a lot of hard work in his compositions, this album turns out to be nothing but sheer dis

appointment!

The opening track, “Pe… Pe… Pepein” sets the right kind of mood for the rest of the album due to it’s high tempo, electrifying beats and the sound arrangements by Eric Pillai (no wonder the song sounds Pritam-esque as Eric Pillai is used for almost all Pritam albums for sound mixing and arrangements). The chartbusting combo of Neeraj Sridhar and Saleem Shehzada has been repeated after “Aahun Aahun” from Love Aaj Kal to give this number yet another mind-blowing feel. The Pe… Pe… Pepein shenai has been repeated from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’s “Oh By God” (another Pritam track). Despite all the Pritam-ized elements, one cannot help but shake your body to this one. One helluva number, it also features Hard Kaur as backing vocalist, giving the right urban/bhangra touch to make it the perfect Pritam number. Wait, this is composed by Adnan Sami right? So why am I getting confused? Because Adnan Sami has ripped the style, sound arrangement – what the heck, he’s even taken Pritam’s regular sound arranger and mixer to make it sound so frighteningly similar it could be termed a copy. And considering Adnan Sami has a typical trademark in his own compositions (not seen here I might add!), it might be a very unpleasant surprise to some ardent fans of his music. But considering all that, it still is an addictive number that has potential to go right up the charts. If only Sami had experimented with his music more than take the tried-and-tested route of success!

Next comes the most publicized song of the lot, and this is also arguably the best in the whole album.“Pump It Up” , as the track is called, is not really a rock track but has a solid dance feel to it. And with Vishal Dadlani behind the mic, what can go wrong? His excellent, husky, upbeat voice sparkles on the extremely powerful beats and the electronic guitar pads, which make an excellent combo. One of Adnan Sami’s most accomplished works till date, this one shows he has it all in him to do anything he wants! Lyrics by Irfan Siddiqui are nothing to speak about, but really set the tone for the whole song as a package. The added Na…Na…Na’s actually give the track an excellent groove. The percussions and the synth samples blow the listener off and make him/her dance. Mainly a dance number, this can actually be called the unofficial theme song of the album due to the whole ‘feel’ of dance and freedom of expression captured in this whole song.

DJ A-Myth’s “Pump it Up Remix” is efficient but I personally still feel the original leaves a better impact.

Next comes a romantic track, “Pal Mein Hi” , which is an utter wash out, simply because it lacks soul. It tries to be as urbanely romantic as possible to attract the listeners, but fails miserably thereby resorting to a ho-hum track only. Shreya Ghoshal’ singing is efficient, though she is relegated to the dubious position of being an almost-backing-vocalist in this one. Unfortunately, Soham Charkraborty doesn’t put his heart into his singing, which is audible. He sounds like Shaan at times. The lyrics are okay, but the packaging as a whole is a clear thumbs down. Average at best.

Kunal Ganjawala makes a spirited attempt to raise the mediocre bound techno-driven track“One More Dance” to a passable level and he succeeds to some extent. However, the track is more or less situational in nature and should find ample support with exceedingly impressive visuals. The sound arrangement is impressive, but the punch is missing, which is certainly something that shouldn’t happen in such a dance-oriented album. The lyrics are nothing to talk about. Period.

And the singer returns yet again to prove himself in a retro styled track called “Yaba Daba Yahoo” . This one stands out as a decent situational track that actually makes you feel weirdly happy! Just like “Gori Gori” (Main Hoon Naa) made us do that small twist-jig we do when we hear such tracks, this track gives you the same effect. Kunal Ganjawala is in his best form here and you feel like letting your hair down and taking to the dance floor! The lyrics are more ‘happy’ in nature and you’ll have that grin on your face while listening to the song. All in all, this is a delicious respite from the disappointment of the previous songs. One can only hope for the rest of the album.

But – oh no! “Rishta Hai Mera” brings it all down again. The music is good in patches but the choice of singers is questionable. In fact, Tulsi Kumar doesn’t really gel well with the proceedings of the song. And she doesn’t impress either, in all honesty. Shaan, on the other hand does impress, but Tulsi neutralizes the effect Shaan brings for the song. This is plain 90s stuff that tries hard to be modern but fails.

The last original track, “Just Do It” should be accused of a short timeline, because it’s amazingly well composed (this one by Sandeep Shirodkar), well-arranged, and well-mixed. The lyrics are hilarious, and the listener will be able to visualize the proceedings on screen for this. Amitabh Bhattacharya has this incredibly creative mind to churn out such wacky lyrics (something he did for most of Dev.D). The beats are amazing, and you need good speakers or headphones to enjoy the bass in them. Simply enjoyable. How I wish it could have been longer! Too short for it’s own good.

The album ends with “Pe…Pe…Pepein…” (Duet) , which for some reason introduces Tulsi Kumar into an already decent song. Since she brings no benefits, you end up wishing they didn't make a second version featuring her in this one! Where is the charm of Tulsi Kumar that was so inevitably present in “Akele Tanha” from Darling? I request her to choose her genres wisely the next time round.

Ken Ghosh has been a music video director for as long as I know. Remember Baba Sehgal’sThanda Thanda Paani? Ah yes, he’s a successful music video director from those wee days. And considering that, he should really have a stronger sense and taste of music than what he portrays here. Whilst the music from his previous movies, Ishq Vishk and Fida (both by Anu Malik), made me feel that he really understood the music he put into his movies, this effort puts me into doubt!

To put it bluntly, he (and the team behind the music) could NOT have taken the music of a movie such as Chance Pe Dance (with music itself a heavy influence) so lightly as demonstrated here. Also, this being a Shahid Kapoor movie (and Shahid Kapoor movies usually boast of some amazing music) disappointed me immensely. Adnan Sami, who impressed me in the past with his music for Lucky and Shaurya disappoints here. It seems Ken Ghosh’s choice of music director for such a movie has proven to be the wrong one especially given Pritam’s record. Not that Adnan Sami is a bad composer, but he is clearly best suited to different genres not dance/urban!

Overall, Chance Pe Dance is a disappointing album that could and should have been so much better.

As is the case with majority of Akshay Kumar movies, Kambakkht Ishq too has a special song by a guest composer and this is evidenced in the form of 'Om Mangalam' which is composed and performed by RDB with the 'shlok' portion being created by Anu Malik himself. A number which is already en route to be a chartbuster in less than a week of promotion, 'Om Mangalam' is a title song in itself as it has words Kambakkht Ishq being repeated throughout it's four and a half minutes duration.

Never before has a chant being presented in such an innovative avtar but RDB make it possible with 'Om Mangalam' which is the next anthem song in the offering, courtesy it's catchy rhythm, fast paced Western arrangements, good vocals and above all, excellent picturisation and choreography. Coming again in a 'reprised version', 'Om Mangalam' continues to make an impression due to its foot-tapping appeal. Expect this version to be hot favourite with DJs in days to come!

From this point on it is Anu Malik and lyricist Anvita Dutt Guptan all the way. Neeraj Shridhar, who has been the voice of Akshay Kumar for many a chartbusters, modulates his vocals for 'Lakh Lakh'. A 'Khud Ko Kya Samajhti Hai' [Khiladi] situation revisited with Akshay Kumar being the common factor, this time on it is the 'bhangra' flavour that finds it's way into the narrative. Coming soon after 'Om Mangalam', this number is not really the best follow up number that one would have expected in Kambakkht IshqHowever, yet again, picturisation should do the trick and perhaps make 'Lakh Lakh' (that also appears in a remix version) a visually appealing number since the film has been shot on a lavish scale.

However, there is immediate redemption in the form of 'Bebo' (yes, that's actually the title of the song). The number has a vintage Anu Malik feel to it, what with Alisha Chinai joining the fun. It is exciting to see Anu and Alisha coming together for 'Bebo' which promises a seductive-n-naughty outing. What also makes 'Bebo' special is the fact that from arrangements to the song styling to Alisha's voice to an overall attitude, it brings back the memories of many a musical chartbusters that Anu Malik had delivered in the 90s. This one is bound to make a mark even visually and should become popular amongst the lounge crowds. Also, as an alternative, there is a 'club mix' version that should make for a good hearing during a round of drinks!

The moment name K.K. comes on the credits, more often than not one can be sure that there would be a good song in the offering. This time around, it's the turn of (bona fide) title song 'Kambakkht Ishq' to make its presence felt in the album. K.K. sings the track in high spirits while reminding of R.D. Burman who used to enjoy such outings. Sunidhi Chauhan joins K.K. for this extremely catchy number which may not be high on lyrical quotient but has in it to enable a young-n-energetic fun-filled outing. A party number, 'Kambakkht Ishq' is later heard in a much mandated 'remix version'.

Much needed 'thehrav' comes in the form of 'Kyun' which again has vintage Anu Malik written all over it. A mushy romantic number that could well have been a Javed Akhtar written number, 'Kyun' sees Anu Malik getting inspired by R.D. Burman (as evidenced in arrangements that remind of the 70s). Meanwhile Shaan and Shreya Ghoshal take it upon themselves to ensure that together, they come up with yet another duet that deserves to stand out amidst all the fun, 'masti' and 'hungama' that has been an integral part of the album so far. Shreya Ghoshal is later heard in a solo version of the same song while making sure that audiences get a lot more beyond the surface in case of Kambakkht Ishq.

Aaum and Sulaiman Merchant are the guest composers for the English track 'Welcome To Hollywood' which could well be the theme track of Kambakkht Ishq considering the fact that the film has been shot in a major way in Hollywood. Karsh Kale and Anushka Manchanda come together for this 'full-on-attitude' track which makes an impact in spite of singers not really going ballistics behind the mike. Written by director Sabbir Khan himself, this is one theme track which deserves to be placed at multiple junctures in the film's narrative.

OVERALL

Kambakkht Ishq delivers what it promised at the very onset. A 'masala' outing was very much in the offering and that is ensured by means of 'Om Mangalam' and title song 'Kambakkht Ishq'. Meanwhile, there is also some nice little surprise in place in the form of 'Kyun' and 'Bebo' that make the album a satisfying affair.

Expectations are sky high. And why not? After serene Socha Na Tha, and full of life Jab We Met soundtrack, [okay, much was lifted, but OST was good though] one can easily demand more from the director- Imtiaz Ali. And for soundtrack of his next Love Aaj Kal, he again has roped in Pritam Chakraborthy. Movie has flavor of fun, and this time much more then JWM, where only Girl was Paagal, in here, both Girl and Boy looks Paagal. And for such paagal movie, some fultoo paagal music is needed. So, has Pritam done justice? And how many tracks he has lifted this time.

Hemant Kumar must be crying for killing his one of the most famous tune in first track 'Twist'. I have had enough of Neeraj Shridhar. Aren't there any more singers left? Okay, the track is 'killing' in terms of instant addiction. Instant foot-tapping. But that's only because of 'Naagin' tune. Otherwise the track is so badly composed. So, thumbs down at very first track. :( Again, it is re re mixed in Twist remix track, later in album.

If someone was listening to my cries over the first track, instantly second track made me fly high. A haunting whistling sound coming from a distant place with winds blowing, and Voila !! Mohit Chauhan !! Singing 'Yeh Dooriyaan' a regular, soaked in sweetness, lovely song by Mohit. Words by Irshad Kamil, does fantastic job. And the 'theme' the song has, must be used in various parts of the movie. Also it is used in Main Yahaan Hoon track. Fresh breeze of romance is felt all around. Traces of Tum Se Hi are felf here too.

Next track 'Chor Bazari' is a fun foot tapping track. Girl and boy having fun. Sung by Neeraj Shridhar [again] with Sunidhi Chauhan. Though composition is quite insteresting but it fails to hold up the attention. And turns out to be less impressive all over. The track reapeats as a remix [useless] version too.

'Main Kya Hoon' is a 'wide angle' track if we talk in terms of picturisation. A sound that I feel designed for endless journeys. Going through endless road, higher and higher. After all, its K.K. who takes us there. Up next are funky Guitar strings. The track Aahun Aahun is so interestingly composed. Everything is designed funky. A sure shot dance hit in DJ community. Jazzy B and Neeraj Shridhar rocks the floor. Also there is a remix of the track, but I would prefer the original.

Time for some relief. When we listen drum beats increasing slowly and croon of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, in same fashion as 'Teri Aur'. The Track 'Ajj Din Chadheya' is a beautifully written track by Irshad. And is mostly goes by vocal. And what more can we ask for if Rahat is singing it??

Concluding the album, a 'Shaadi' track. 'Thoda Thoda Pyar' is a typical Punjabi marriage song, with pretty good vocals of Sunidhi Chauhan with a touch of folk. A completely situational track, nothing much.

So surprised I am, that why Imtiaz Ali has come up with such an above average soundtrack? Looking back at his movies, I was hoping an extravagenza. But this is a big disappointment. Okay, given that movie doesn't belong to genre of Musical, its a fun on the go,kinda movie. But still..... Again I am surprised that Shaan, who is voice of Saif, is not used at all. And the album is so much Male dominated. I dont think there would be much more mushy mushy moments. Nahiin.....Jab we met ke baad We wanna see some more like that,,,,,,don't we?? May be its because the movie is co-produced by Saif. So he must have all the attention, isn't it? :P

Dostana Music Review

After the not so successful Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (KANK), Dostana is the latest offering by Dharma Productions, the Dostana of 1980 featured Big B and a different story line but this Dostana of 2008 has its own twists and turns. The promos look scintillating with curvy Priyanka, muscular John and stylish Abhishek. Shot in the US the movie seems to have a different story line. The cover has a mild feel to it with simple white and off colors with the three actors in it. It is simple but effective. Let’s introspect what the songs in this compilation have in store. Vishal and Shekhar in this album have put six songs with no remixes different from what they are doing.

“Janey Kyon” I assume can be tagged the anthem track of this album which has a cool groove to it from the word go. Featuring hinglish lyric by Anvita Dutt Guptan it is a song that gets stuck to you head due to the simple composition, catchy arrangement and youthful lyric about friendship. Sung by Vishal, it’s hard to believe it’s his vocals, the duo has done lots of synthesizing in this track for sure which sound artificial at times. The beginning of “Desi Girl” marks the start of a can be item dance number. Effortlessly vocalized by Shankar Mahadevan and Sunidhi Chauhan, this is a fast paced track with India arrangement at start and composition to break a leg. The song’s music takes some retro and synthetic shades in the mid but get back to the conventional instruments. Lyric written by Kumaar depicts he beauty of a desi girl in comparison to “others”. Next “Maa Da Laadla” follows, with a strange starting this track surprises with the vocals of Saleem of the Saleem Sulaiman duo. Lyrics penned by Kumaar again he leaves no stone unturned to criticize marriage. The party feel still continues and the signature Vishal Shekhar speaks louder in this track.

A number that will keep you on your toes is “Shut Up & Bounce”, this is a typical Vishal Shekhar dance track with all the elements to be a party starter. Crooned in a brilliant fashion by talented Sunidhi and well supported by bouncy Vishal this song has the percussion to keep you up all night. Written by Anvita this song is set to be the next disco anthem. After some groovy and disco friendly tracks a light lullaby number “Khabar Nahi” is different from the rest. Effervescent lyric about love Anvita proves her writing skills with two totally different songs. Simple composition and use of acoustic sounds makes this song very easy on the ears but retains a catchy groove. It keeps you up to that extra mile “It’s got to be love coz it’s really got me going” part is really pleasant. Last track is “Kuch Kam” sung by the silk voiced Shaan in a splendid manner. Unbelievable but true over-active Vishal penned such subtle lyrics and the composition compliments the light love favoring lyric. The arrangement is also very minimal yet likable from the first listen.

All in all, Vishal Shekhar prove their mettle in this album with no remixes but the collection of four fast paced tracks and two slow light tracks to end with is first-rate. The singer selection is also very good with the new lyricists the duo has given a different taste in this album. If you liked previous albums by Vishal Shekhar don’t forget to buy this one.

HIJACK is an action thriller with lots of drama and so it certainly provides ample scope to its new music directors Justin-Uday and the lyricist Kumaar to enchant us music lovers with some racy, thrilling music. The musical success of most Abbas Mustan and Sanjay Gupta films (irrespective of box-office success) is a testimony to the above stated fact. The EROS Entertainment presentation HIJACK has Shiney Ahuja playing the main lead and one must add here that the actor has been associated with some chartbusters and quality music in the past. Be, it HAZARON KHWAISHEN AISI, GANGSTER, WOH LAMHE or BHOOL BHULAIYYA, songs featuring Shiney have clicked in a big way. So, let us see if the trend continues and also checkout what the new team has in store for us.

Single string guitar strums and Abhijeet style singing by Kay Kay (in the beginning) commences 'Aksar', which features as many as four times in the album. The start gives the impression of a mushy love ballad but it later changes gears and converts into a breezy romantic track. And needless to add that it is in the same corridor (not copied though) as Shiney's hit track 'Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai' from WOH LAMHE. The new composers certainly know their music and it shows through the superb orgasmic guitar strumming which can be likened to the legendary Dire Straits. It relies heavily on guitar and when it hits the high string shriller notes, it is a treat.

The 'unplugged' version is another delightful acoustic outing with the arrangements being light and more reverberating. Shaan is exemplary in a track which is once again guitar dominated (in the background) along with some plates and bead sounds.

Here come Yash Raj Films with their 3 heroine project. With Ranbir Kapoor’s previous being a big disaster, this time there is much more hope especially when the title has already proved lucky for Ranbir’s dad.

The music is by Vishal-Shekar and lyrics by Anvita Dutt Guptan.

The album opens with ‘Khuda Jaane’ sung by Shilpa Rao and KK. The track offers a perfect romantic and intensely passionate number with KK bringing in those lines ‘Khuda Jaane’ with complete conviction.

The track sees a ‘Revisited’ version with Abhijit Nalani. This is more of a lounge / club version which is most likely to be placed at a disc round the corner.

Sunidhi Chauhan brings in ‘Lucky Boy’ which acts as the search for a woman’s lucky soulmate. The beats are Punjabi and Raja Hassan of Sa Re Ga Fame adds his bit. The final output is not enticing enough and the track is much below average. Hard Kaur is also heard for a bit in the track. The saving grace may come from the pretty women visuals.

‘Ahista Ahista’ brings in Lucky Ali and Shreya Ghosal- two voices that are poles apart together. If you are looking for a serene number, you’ve got it totally wrong this time. Lucky Ali fuses his sonorous overtones to match with the melodious Shreya Ghosal to provide a racy smooth club number. The track calls for repeat value.

‘Jogi Mahi’ has a certain narration of a story. The track takes off with Shekar Rajvijiani and soon Sukhwinder Singh is drawn in. The typical Yash Chopra number which has all the necessary ‘desi ‘beats will surely call for some great visuals. Himani Kapoor the Himesh Reshammiya favourite too lends her bit. But somewhere the track falls short and remains just another mediocre number.

‘Small town girl’ comes in with immense resemblance to ‘Ticket to bollywood’ from ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’. The track sung by Shankar Mahadevan has the necessary elements of Punjab and speaks apparently of a sexy looking Bipasha. The visuals might prove good but this is just another mediocre number.

Now comes the most awaited track of the album-the title number. When one gets out redoing or recreating the magic created by the likes of RD Burman, Kishore Kumar and Majrooh Sultanpuri, there’s immense pressure. Vishal-Shekar excel with this one by giving Kishore Kumar’s son the honour of rendering. Sumit Kumar takes off well and Vishal Dadlani adds with the rap bit. This one’s been a rage for years and the new version will just revisit those RD Burman days.

‘Bachana Ae Haseeno’ ultimately doesn’t live up to all the hype and has freshness only in the form of ‘Khuda Jaane’ and ‘Ahista Ahista’. Vishal-Shekar are nowhere close to ‘Om Shanti Om’ and their other memorable albums.

After the success of Welcome , a dismal performance of Tashan in box office and his hit series Khatron Ke Khiladi in colours he is eager for a hit and we hope this will be a huge hit.
Thumbs up to Pritam Chakraborty for letting his creative instincts run and not rust. He has churned out a thumping album of 12 songs with a Punjabi flavour rather than his usual soft rock.

Hard Kaur renders 'Bas ek kinng'' with Neeraj Sridhar, Mika Singh and Ashish Pandit. The rap comes out pretty well in the renditions and lyrics. A pumping piece of music, it has already become chartbuster.

Punjabi to the core, 'Bhootni ke' couldn't have been sung by anyone other than Daler Mehendi. Lyricist Mayur Puri has ensured that each and every word of the song is meaningful. This track is likely to become a huge hit in Punjab.

Next, 'Jee Karda' sticks to the Punjabi theme with bits of western music immersed into it. Labh Janjua and Suzie Q render it with full gusto. It is a fun track.

'Talli hua' may not be a show stealer but would definitely find fans. Labh and Neeraj croon the song. The Punjabi base remains in this pepped up, high-on-life track.

The entire lot of fun, chaos, swinging and energetic numbers finally comes to an end with 'Teri ore'. A completely romantic song, it has minimum Punjabi influences except in certain areas. Shreya Ghoshal and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan make an unusual, yet commendable, team in this track. At places it reminds you of numbers from 'Namastey London'.

American rapper Snoop Dog renders 'Singh is king' along with RDB and Akshay Kumar. A heady mix of western and Punjabi elements, the number gives due credit to each of its singers, each of whom have done a good job.

In short, Pritam has delivered a power-packed album.

Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy may hit the bull's eye with this energetic and spirited album. Comprising nine tracks, the album has wonderful lyrics that have been appropriately composed and incredibly rendered by Farhan Akhtar, marking his debut as a singer.

The title song 'Rock on' is one of those blessed by Farhan's vocals. With a heavy base and electric guitar strumming, the number has been well composed.

Farhan also croons 'Pichle saat dinon mein'. The rock number has interesting lyrics. An enjoyable track, it will surely be enjoyed even more on the big screen.

Then, there is an approximately six-and-a-half minute track titled 'Sinbad The Sailor' rendered by Raman Mahadevan and Farhan, an enjoyable piece. There's nothing extraordinary about this track, but it doesn't fail to impress.

It's Farhan yet again, and this time with 'Socha hai' and he does an impressive job.

Caralisa Monteiro beautifully renders 'Phir dekhiye'. The singer has handled the responsibility of a solo singer pretty well and Javed Akhtar's lyrics are trendy and suit the theme. The song is serenity personified with just a guitar accompanying the singer.

The composers slow down a bit in 'Tum ho toh'. Again, with a soft rock base, the track moves at a slower pace, with a romantic and dreamy tinge to it. The lyrics and rendition are credible, like most of the previous songs.

Dominique Cerejo sings 'Ye tumhari meri baatein'. What's most catchy about Cerejo's rendition is her unusual, contemporary and western voice that suits such a genre. A dawdling number that would find maximum fans among the fairer sex.

Suraj Jagan sings the high-on-rock 'Zehreelay'. For the song Javed Akhtar moves on a different route and pens some weird lyrics. Suraj croons like a typical high-on-life rock star, making the track different from the rest of the lot. A fine number!

There are a couple of things that stand out in this album and make the difference - Farhan's fresh voice, Javed Akhtar's trendy lyrics and the composers' innovativeness. The album will set the cash registers ringing for sure.

Suddenly Tusshar Kapoor seems to be seen a lot more than what he used to till a few years back. He began the year with a guest appearance in Halla Bol, followed it up with an item song 'Manzar' in Sunday, tasted success with One Two Three and now would be seen in C Kkompany. While One Two Three also gave him a popular title song, one looks forward to what is in store for him in C Kkompany that primarily features four songs (two each by Anand Raaj Anand and Bappa Lahiri).

Set in a mood similar to that of the title track of One Two Three, 'Khoka' is a promotional number which kick starts the proceedings for C Kkompany. A fun song which heavily relies upon Western beats and arrangements, 'Khoka' is about the power of money which makes the world go round and how it aids in elevating the status of an individual.
The album takes an interesting turn with the title song 'C Kkompany' that has none other than Sanjay Dutt coming behind the mike. A song that introduces each of the three prime characters of the film, 'C Kkompany', is set in a mode which reminds listener of the kind of music which Pritam has been making for last couple of years and consistently delivering hits. Aided by some simple yet funny lyrics by Anand Raaj Anand (who also composes the song), 'C Kkompany' that has passages in Hindi as well as English, should make for a good viewing on the screen. A song which has Sanjay Dutt singing in his trademark dark style, 'C Kkompany' has a foot tapping 'remix version' to boast as well.
