Against his better judgment, Mick fell in love with a mortal, intrepid girl reporter Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), who worked for the Buzzwire news service and who frequently accompanied Mick during his investigations.

The folklore behind the conception of ‘Moonlight’

Moonlight tv show ran for a single season, which was also shorter than the seasons of most shows. Generally, most of the TV shows’ seasons last 22 episodes, the animation series’ seasons even go longer than it. However, Moonlight season consisted of 16 episodes only. The series opener didn’t get a good response from the critics but was a well received one by the viewers. For many critics, the writing and acting of various actors was not satisfactory, however Jason Dohring was appraised for his performance. The WGA strike had its effect on the series and it went on a temporary hiatus. As the strike ended, the show returned with four new episodes and even before the airing of the series finale, CBS Network made an official announcement to bring the show to an end.

Okay, have you ever pondered over the concepts behind the vampire dramas? Actually, a unique vampire mythology is there behind the conventions of such kind of dramas. Is Moonlight going To be Revived!!!

Hey people! I know the question that has been baffling you for about a year now is why the successful show, Moonlight Tv Show was cancelled. Well, there is no proper answer to that, but we fans have definitely been blessed as the Sci Fi channel started re-airing all the 16 episodes of Moon light season 1 in the last week of January. Even though many people tend to disagree with fans like me, but I feel that the show presented the usually horrifying image of blood thirsty vampires in a new light. Even though the main protagonist, Mick St. John played by Alex O’Loughlin was a vampire, he acted and behaved like any other human being and quenched his thirst for blood with the help blood taken from blood banks.

But even after the show has been cancelled nearly one year back, the fans of Moonlight have not given up the hope of the show being revived, and perhaps that is what gave rise to the rumors that Sci Fi will be airing a second season of the show soon. However, according to Matt Mitovich of TV Guide, has rubbished the reports as absolutely false. So for those of you who have been hoping to see Mick and his band back in action in a brand new season, I am sorry to disappoint you.

According to reports, Moonlight is not going to be revived, at least not in the near future. With no studios interested and the contracts of all the cast and the crew having completely expired, the production of a second season has become virtually impossible at this stage. In addition, most of the main cast members are involved with different new projects and it is not possible for them to make new commitments at this stage. The picture really looks gloomy and I feel that we should accept the fact that Moonlight is not going to have any new seasons. But that will not in any way deter our love for the show and we will always remember the show for being one of the greatest entertainers for us.

CBS Adopts ‘Moonlight’ Actor, Cast Members Pursue Other Projects

While some have already packed their bags and tidied up their camp sites following the campaign to bring Moonlight back to CBS, quite a number of fans are still clamoring for the return of the much-loved series which starred Alex O’Loughlin and Sophia Miles. The series, which only survived a season with a little under an average of 7.5 million viewers, was cut by CBS earlier this year because the network claimed that the ratings weren’t sufficient enough for a renewal. Moreover, CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler admitted that unlike Jericho, the resurrected series with a passionate fanbase, Moonlight’s fans tend to support the actor behind it rather than the series itself.

“The response to Moonlight was actually more actor-centric, so I think it certainly measures our decision on the show,” Tassler told reporters at the TCA last month.

Apparently CBS saw the potential in the Australian actor and has signed him on for a one-year deal (which includes CBS’ sister studios CBS Paramount and ABC Studios) which will have him playing the central character in the new series currently being developed by producer Mark Gordon, whose credits include Grey’s Anatomy, Army Wives and Criminal Minds. Moreover, the deal will also provide O’Loughlin with a few movie projects with CBS Films.

O’Loughlin will soon be appearing in the feature film Whiteout, while his Moonlight co-star Sophia Myles appeared in the recently released Outlander, in which she played Viking warrior princess Freya, who battles extraterrestrials. The film premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival. Currently, Myles is working on the film Buddha’s Little Finger, which is set to be released next year.

As for Moonlight co-star Jason Dohring, who played Mick St. John’s 400-year-old best buddy, he says that he is currently in the process of landing other acting projects.

“More recently since I’ve been done with Moonlight, I’ve sorted some stuff out in my career, just personally about where I want to go,” Jason Dohring said in an interview with the Review Times last month. “I think that I worked out a couple things for myself, kind of what I want to create in the world with being a celebrity.”

He adds that he would like to try taking the lead in the next project that comes his way. He explains, “It was like all of a sudden I realized I could do it and I was like excited to try to do that, be a leading man. And I saw the amount of good that you can do, that you can use that platform to effect change in the world and that was exciting to me.”

Joel Silver says ‘Moonlight’ is dead

I’ve read several messageboards on which dedicated fans of CBS’ cancelled Moonlight
have posted that they wouldn’t believe that the vampire drama was truly dead until they heard producer Joel Silver say it. Sadly, a crowd at Comic-Con just heard those words.

Presenting a diverse slate of film, DVD and comic projects set up through his Dark Castle shingle, Silver got to the frequently delayed Whiteout, a South Pole-set murder mystery that’s been in release limbo for several years. Silver mentioned that the cast of Whiteout includes Kate Beckinsale, Gabriel Macht and Alex O’Loughlin, mentioning that viewers knew him from Moonlight, before saying that sadly that show was dead.

I guess it’s possible that other people in Silver’s organization might still be shopping the production to any manner of cable networks or service providers. And it’s possible that Silver’s unequivocal pronouncement of the show’s death might have just been a ploy to further mobilize a fanbase that’s probably well-represented at Comic-Con. But Silver didn’t sound like he had an agenda and the crowd in the half-filled Hall H issued almost no vocal protest.

Silver’s casually made statement came just days after DirecTV bigwig Eric Shanks dismissed the idea that DirecTV had any plans to be part of a Moonlight resurrection.

“There have been a couple of conversations, but from what I understand, the sets have been dismantled and currently at this time there’s nothing to report about Moonlight and DirecTV,” Shanks said at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Of course fans of the show have long felt that the dismantling of the set was an irrelevant impediment, but Shanks added, “No, right at this time, yeah. I mean, it’s a no until there’s something else, but I just don’t think — I don’t think that there’s an opportunity anymore, from what I understand.”

Anyway, that’s just me providing an update from Comic-Con, Moonlight fans. If I hear anything else, I’ll let you know.

CBS Moonlight: The Fans Say Sonata is NOT Our Swan Song!

CBS chief doesn’t question ‘Moonlight’ choice

While CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler insists she still has great adoration for all things occult, she has yet to feel regret about the decision to leave Moonlight off of the network’s fall schedule.

“Everybody knows I love vampires — vampires, witches, warlocks, I love them all,” Tassler tells reporters at Friday (July 18) morning’s Television Critics Association press tour.

That love does precious little good for fans of Moonlight, which averaged just under 7.5 million viewers in a single season of Friday night airings. On a purely empirical level, the ratings for Moonlight were insufficient to justify renewal, but nobody has questioned the dedication of the show’s fanbase.

What Tassler questions is the nature of that dedication.

“The response to Moonlight was actually more actor-centric, so I think it certainly measures our decision on the show,” Tassler says. “Right now, like I said, I don’t question the choice we made. I’m not getting as much mail and most of those comments were actor-centric.”

What she’s implying is that in their teeth-gnashing and garment-rending, protesters came across as fans of Alex O’Loughlin, rather than fans of the show.

She contrasts the tone of the Moonlight discussion with the campaign that resurrected another low-rated CBS drama, a little show called Jericho.

“You know what’s interesting? Most of the e-mails and viewer mail on Jericho were very show-centric,” Tassler insists. “There was a marked contrast. Look. I went online and I read all those things. Trust me, when you’re a Queen Ranger, you have to. But like I said, most of the comments on Jericho were really about the show and every detail about the show, where mostly with Moonlight, it was about Alex.”

On the subject of Jericho, Tassler continues, “Let’s remember that when those e-mails and that campaign started, we hadn’t seen anything like that before. Not to mention the peanuts. But I’m saying that you, you had an internet campaign the likes of which we had never seen before, so we didn’t know what the outcome was going to be, but it was certainly worth giving it a try.”

Tassler adds that just because one fan campaign brought Jericho back from the dead, but a different campaign failed to do the same for Moonlight doesn’t mean that the grass roots avenue is now closed for good.

“No. I think you’re gonna have to look at each as a case-by-case scenario,” she says. “And let’s not forget that all of that, the e-mails, the barrage of the peanuts and the letters and everything, you’ve got people that are passionate and at no point are you going to say ‘We don’t want that.’”

If it makes Moonlight fans any better — and I have zero urge to make them feel worse — CBS has paid heed to that actor-centric love for O’Loughlin. Asked if the network would welcome the Aussie actor back on a new or established show, Tassler doesn’t hesitate.

“Sure, we’d love to.”

Moonlight: Season 1 DVD for Release in September

While Moonlight’s future is still in uncertain, pending the possible pick up of other networks, fans have something to look forward to this coming fall. According to show writer and executive producer Harry Werksman, who appeared at Moonlight Con during the Memorial Day weekend, the first season DVD will be released some time in September.

The Season 1 DVD is expected to include the entire 16 episodes of the first season of Moonlight. And while other extra features have not yet been decided, Alex O’Loughlin is certainly set to do commentaries on at least several installments.

In addition to the DVD news and the possibility of Sci Fi picking up Moonlight, which you can read in this article, Werksman also hinted that a soundtrack from the first season of Moonlight is also “in the works.”

With fans’ efforts to revive the series growing stronger, Werksman thanked fans for their support, which is greatly appreciated by the entire cast and crew of Moonlight. In turn, Werksman revealed that he’s hoping for the best as discussions for a sophomore season are ongoing. He also said that there is no Moonlight without O’Loughlin so fans can be assured that “Alex will be involved in whatever additional Moonlight we get.”

Part of the ongoing efforts to revive Moonlight is shopping the show around to other networks, which now includes the Sci Fi channel. Of course, if everything doesn’t go as planned, a movie might be the next best thing. Although Werksman emphasized, “It’s not time for Plan C yet.”

Moonlight stars Alex O’Loughlin (The Shield) as investigator Mick St John, a vampire who struggles with his immortal nature and his love for the mortal internet reporter, Beth Turner, played by Sophia Myles (Doctor Who). Also starring are Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars) as Mick’s centuries old buddy vampire Josef Kostan, and Shannyn Sossaman as Mick’s wife and sire Coraline.

There’s something strangely sexy about a man who has the power to take a life, yet doesn’t. When that man became an immortal not by choice but through trickery, it makes him all the more enticing. His vulnerability as a victim gives him that edge. Mick St. John, the unwilling vampire of “Moonlight”, thought he had married his one and only, Coraline, until she turned’ him. Then, he sees her for the villain she is.

Mick isn’t an ages old vampire, as other fictional vamps. He’s less than a century old, rather new to the night life, so to speak. When we join private detective/vampire, Mick, he becomes reacquainted with Beth Turner, the little girl he saved from his wife years before. Now Beth is all grown up, and a temptation Mick must resist. With each episode, the sexual tension grows between mortal and immortal.

Almost every week of season one provided a new twist to the story of Mick’s wife, Coraline. She is the most difficult character to describe. First we are led to believe she was a courtesan in France around the time of the revolution. Then we discover she somehow survived being burned to death twenty years earlier when she returns as Morgan, a co-worker of Beth’s. By the end of the season, we discover she is really the niece of Louis XV, and has a temporary cure to vampirism. Confused? Um, me too. But the cure appears to be the driving force behind the next season’s storyline.

This series works for viewers like me, because of the romantic angle, and humor. Throughout the season, Beth’s boyfriend, Josh is an obstacle to the romance between mortal and vampire. Vampirism itself is, in Mick’s opinion, the other. In his words, “It never ends well.” However, at the end, Josh is killed. Now we are left to wonder if Mick’s refusal to turn the dying Josh into a vampire has an effect on Beth’s feelings for him.

Other interesting turns this series took in its first season include the softer side of Joseph, Mick’s ancient friend. Joseph is portrayed as a hard-hearted, yet playful millionaire. Hundreds of years have left him seemingly with no regard for mortal life, but respectful of the code vampires live by. Or so we are led to believe, until we learn of his true love, whom he tried to turn in the 1950’s. She still lives, but is in a coma in New York. Obviously, something went direly wrong.

More minor secondary characters are a young looking techie vampire, used as a research source in investigations and “the Cleaner,” a female vampire who takes care of obviously vampirized mortals. She cleans up after accidental killings and apparently takes care of the extremely careless vampires who may bring mortal scrutiny upon the vamp community. Both of these minor characters add to the charm of “Moonlight.”

All in all, season one did its job. It got this household hooked on the romance, intrigue and humor that is “Moonlight.” We will be watching season two when it begins later this month.
