If you have a lot of web-based email accounts, checking all of them in certain time range will be tedious. In that situation, email notification softwares will work fine and eliminates the need to check for new mails in every account. Here, I review two of them, which are free.

1. >> EPrompter is a tiny program that lets you check the emails from 16 email accounts simultaneously. It also downloads the text part of your email if you set to do so. You can also send reply to them saving a copy on the server. You can delete the emails right from the ePrompter without going to the actual email account. It shows you the number of new messages received in every account by a “rotating tray icon” and also by playing sound.

The EPrompter email notification program works with AIM, AOL, Gmail, Hotmail*, Yahoo*, POP3, EarthLink, Excite, Juno, Lycos, Mail.com, Mind spring, MSN, My Way, Netscape, Rediff mail, SBC Yahoo, USA.net and other email domains.Please check a list of supporting domains HERE.

Google has just launched Custom Search Engine. All you have to do is give it a name and select which sites you want it to search from. You have the option of either searching only these sites or emphasizing the results from these sites while searching the web.

You can also embed the search engine on your website via the AdSense for Search program and make some money via the traffic that it generates.

You also have the option of letting users volunteer by submitting their list of sites to be added in the search results.

This helps if you are creating a topic specific search engine, e.g. a search engine that gathers all information about WordPress. It can help if you get visitors to suggest sites to be searched.

Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP to the public. It has almost been exactly two-months since Microsoft released WMP 11 Beta 2 and now everyone can bask in the joy of the final release.

For those of you who haven’t tried Windows Media Player 11 then I think you will be surprisingly impressed. Microsoft put a lot of effort into competing with Apple’s iTunes software and it definitely shows.

One area, however, that is apparently being left out is podcast support. I understand that Microsoft would want to stay away from things that Apple has started, but podcasts are practically a standard. If their iPod competitor, called the Zune, isn’t going to support podcasts either then they just lost a lot of potential buyers. Of course they may have something up their sleeves…you know how Microsoft likes to be sneaky and underhanded.
