TO UPDATE AND INSTALL THE JAVA ON THE COMPUTER.

I. What is Java Update?

The Java Update is a feature that keeps your computer up-to-date automatically with the latest Java releases. Installing the Java Runtime Environment automatically installs the Java Update feature.

The Java Update feature connects to java.com at a scheduled time and checks to see if there is an update available.

II. What does it do?

a. Notification of a new update
Whenever there is an update available, a tool tip balloon appears.

b. Install the new update
After the download is complete, a tooltip balloon notifies you that the update is ready for installation.

1. Click on the balloon to start the installation process.

2. To start the install, click Install. Otherwise, click Remind Me Later to install the update at a later time.

3. If you click Install, an InstallShield wizard appears and the installation process begins

When the installation is complete, a dialog box appears.

4. Click Finish to complete the installation.

III. Configure Java Updates

a. Automatic Update Feature

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel (For Windows XP)
Click Start > Control Panel (For Windows Vista and Windows 7)

2. Double-click Java icon. The Java Control Panel appears.

3. Click the Update tab

· The Update tab may not be available if your network administrator has disabled the Java Update feature during installation.

· If you are not logged in to system as administrator then options to change Java update notifications will be greyed out and user will not be able to change it.

4. To enable Java Update to automatically check for updates, select the Check for Updates Automatically check box.

5. To disable Java Update, un-select the Check for Updates Automatically check box.

b. Change the notification options

There are two notification options:

1. Before installing: Use this option to download automatically and be notified before installing the Java update.

2. Before downloading and before installing: This is the default option. Use this option to be notified before downloading and installing the Java update.

c. Change the update schedule

1. To change update notification frequency, click the Advanced button located next theCheck for Updates Automatically.

2. The Automatic Update Advanced Settings dialog box appears.

3. Based on your preference, you can select the frequency to be daily, weekly, or monthly.

4. You can choose the date and time for the Java Update.

5. Click OK. The Java Update scheduler checks for newer Java updates at the scheduled frequency and notifies you.

d. Manual Update Feature

You can manually check for an update any time by clicking on Update Now.

If you use the Google Chrome browser, here's how you can add a multifunction clock to your desktop:

First, install the Clock app by Google, from the Chrome Web Store.

Next, click on the Clock app from your list of Chrome apps to launch it. The clock will launch into the time and date tab first. The other tabs are for world clock, alarm, timer, and stop watch.

Windows users who want to launch

Every time you install a new program, update Windows or other software, or even just use your computer as it's intended, you run a small risk of corrupting files that are essential to the smooth operation of your machine. This happens rarely, but it can be a major hassle to recover from if you don't back up your system information regularly (or at least before trying anything extra-risky). Windows 7 makes it easy. Here's how:

Open the Control Panel, then click "System and Security," then "System," then "System protection" on the left. Enter a label

2. A small window should pop up with the System Protection tab highlighted. Click "Create..." near the bottom.

After a bit, you should get a message informing you that the procedure competed successfully.
4. To restore your system, repeat step 1, then click "System Restore..." near the top of the pop-up. You'll be asked to select a restore point, and then Windows will roll you back to that time. This means any changes you made to your system, like installing software or changing settings, will be lost, so be careful!

Three apps for a cleaner Mac desktop

Is your Mac's desktop horribly cluttered with various folders and files? If you can't be trusted to create a sensible folder hierarchy and then save files to appropriate folders, it's likely you default to saving file after file to your desktop. It's no way to live.

Thankfully, the Mac App Store has three apps that can help restore order to your desktop. Two are free and will sweep up files and folders on your desktop when you command or, in the case of one, as scheduled. The third simply hides them, presenting the illusion of a sparkling clean desktop but preserving your mess of files and folders.
