How to make Subtle Motion Pictures

I never thought I would make an animated GIF but here I am. After first seeing their potential beauty here: http://iwdrm.tumblr.com/ I decided that I needed to make one. I am not sure how the original creator ( or others for that matter ) make their own but this tutorial will explain how I got the image above (approximately after about 2 hours of shooting and editing):

Well having capable software is what really helps this be painless. I am sure there are alternatives but I used the following supplies and software for the following reasons:

camera that can take some decent quality film ( I used a small handheld )
a tripod to keep shot as steady as possible ( I used a small gorillapod )
Adobe Premiere Pro ( to import film and export to frames )
Adobe Bridge ( to import all files into a single Photoshop file painlessly )
Photoshop ( to make the GIF )

And here is a summary of the basic steps to creating this effect before getting into the details:

capture movement on video ( keep subject and camera as still as possible )
export the individual frames as images from the film ( I used Premiere )
import the frames into Photoshop as layers
basically group all frames but the one (this one should be base layer) you want to represent all elements in the background
put a mask on the group of images(not including base layer) to cover all but the area you want movement
And finally create and export your GIF

Step 1:

First you want to get as steady a shot as possible while having something moving. This is where the camera and tripod come in handy. You will want the subject as still as possible; but you also want movement! … so basically something like a slight wind is helpful here ( I was lucky there was some that wasn’t too powerful). I am sure the more creative out there could come up with some other options in this respect.

Step 2:

Second you want to make sure you capture a lot of film ( and from many different angles). This is important enough to be its own step as far too often I have taken the “perfect shot” only to later find out it was out of focus, or ruined in some other manner. Definitely an important rule of photography I don’t want any to miss, even though this not technically photography.

Step 2:

Import film into a video editing program such as Premiere. In Premiere that involved selecting and moving[setting in and out points and dragging] only a small the part of the video I wanted to the main timeline.

Using Premiere to Setup Export

Step 3:

Now you must export each frame as an image into a folder. Go to File > Export > Media and the following image are the settings I used ( I used targa as it it a lossless — non-compressed — image). Make sure you set the input to an empty folder that you want to contain all your images.

Step 4:

Shift-Select all the frames from the folder you exported them all to folder using Adobe Bridge. Then from the menu select Tools > Photoshop > Load all files into Photoshop Layers … This helps save a great deal of time importing every image separately into a Photoshop file. I selected about 80 or so images to be able to sort through. Photoshop should now open automatically and starting loading all files into layers …

Step 5:

Now that we have everything into Photoshop we can finally get to the good part! First we want to select a suitable background image ( the base image that will never change ) and move it into the base layer ( perhaps even lock it as well ). I chose mine based on a few arbitrary requirements: Namely attractive composition, and I wanted to solidify the image as a still image and thus chose a layer with some people in midstep [see background top-right].

Tip: Holding down alt and selecting the visibility icon on each layer hides all expect the one you selected. Doing so again to the same layer goes back to showing all.

Step 6:

Next step, again for arbitrary convenience, is to group all other layers into a single group so that a single mask can be applied to all. I did a rough selection with the lasso tool then hit this button in the layers menu.

Step 7:

Now to create the GIF. Open up your animation window by going to Window > Animation . From here select the fly-out menu to change the default ( well in CS4 anyhow ) timeline option to theConvert to Frame Animation view. This following image illustrates:

After this you want to create your GIF. Hit the new frame button then select which layers you want visible, rinse and repeat until you have a short animation that is long enough not to look too obviously repeating ( I did it for about 15 frames ); then go back and do the same thing in reverse to add another 15 frames ( this is to get the seamless “looping” action ). After this I also went through each layer and adjusted colouring, tones, and saturations ( use an action for this to save time and be consistent ). Also threw an old paper texture as top layer ( blendmode set to multiply) to get the “old look”, crop[out our dog's foot in corner] and tada! almost done.

Step 8:

File > Save for Web and Devices as a GIF and fine! You should now have your own subtle GIF.

Some Tips from some fellow Redditors ( for best results ):

Should selectively narrow the color palette BEFORE you compress the image into a gif. That will let you control any color banding that may happen when working with only 256 colours.
For better quality you may want to use an animated PNG ( instead of a .gif) though not all browsers support them requiring a Flash fallback.
Match the frame rate of your input video with your output sequence. You probably won’t notice the difference between 29.97 fps and 30 fps (as is the case here), but for European users, the difference between 25 fps and 30 fps is very much noticeable. And a bi*** to correct afterwards.

How to Create a Live CD to Crack Windows Password.

1. Download Ophcrack

Make sure that you download the correct version. If you want to recovery the password on a Windows XP computer, click on ophcrack XP LiveCD. If you want to recover the password on a Windows Vista computer, click on ophcrack Vista LiveCD,

2. Burn Ophcrack on CD

Burn the ISO image file on a CD/DVD. If the ISO file is not burned correctly, Ophcrack LiveCD will not work at all.

3. Insert Ophcrack CD into Computer

Navigate to BIOS and set the boot sequence to CD. Insert the Burned CD or DVD into CDROM drive and restart your computer.

4. Recovery Windows Password

Ophcrack Live CD will automatically start working on the password recovery for all user accounts using rainbow tables. The windows password cracking utility will take time to crack the password depending upon the password complexity. Following screen should be visible after Ophcrack Live CD recovers the password.

5. Remove Ophcrack Live CD

Note down the cracked password on a piece of paper. If password shown is empty against the user account then you can log on to the account without a password at all. Remove CD and restart your computer.

How to do it

First of all make two small holes in the plastic tube as you can enter a metal stick through it. After that lean the rubber flipper inside the tube until it reaches the between of those two holes you made. When its there insert the metal stick piercing the rubber flipper and reaches the next side of the tube. Now you should be able to rotate the flipper by using the metal stick. If you feel like that its not tight enough or easily rotating use some rubber knobs to those holes you have just made.

Second is the mounting all the parts together. First mount the motor with the metal stick by using a welder or Solder using lead, But i prefer to go with welding, in this case you should note down that you have to use the electronic welding method not the oxygen welding method because it might melt the inside of your 230v motor. After mounting the motor and the flipper connect both ends of the triangle food chamber and the food tube.

We’re almost done, Finally you have to connect the control panel and the motor to operate the time and duration. For this step i used a programmer that i removed from an old Air conditioner, But you can always buy a 24 hours programmer for a low cost from an electronic shop. Since your motor is a 230v motor you can connect it directly to the programmer without any other modifications.

Now You have made a attractive outdoor pet feeder for your pets that can be programmed to release food at any time of the day.

This is a small sketch i drew to show you people how it looks like. And Please point me my errors and things that i should improve. I love to learn from my mistakes.

To improve performance when navigating (studies show that 39% of all page navigations are renavigations to pages visited less than 10 pages ago, usually using the back button), Firefox implements a Back-Forward cache that retains the rendered document for the last five session history entries for each tab.
This is a lot of data. If you have a lot of tabs, Firefox’s RAM memory usage can climb dramatically. It’s a trade-off. What you get out of it is faster performance as you navigate the web.
Now a lot of us have found the ’secrets’ on how to manipulate settings in “about:config” to drop the memory usage as long as possible and to increase the speed at which Firefox loads sites. Read on to find out how to do this.
Remember: Firefox (download it here) and these tweaks below will make it even greater and faster. So enjoy!

Reduce the amount of RAM Firefox uses for it’s cache feature

Here’s how to do it:
1. Type “about:config” (no quotes) in the adress bar in the browser.
2. Find “browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewer”
3. Set it’s value to “0“;(Zero)

Increase the Speed in Which Firefox loads pages

1. Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit Enter.
(Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipeliningit will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.)
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 10.
This means it will make 10 requests at once.
3. Lastly, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0“;.(Zero)
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages faster now.
Optionally (for even faster web browsing) here are some more options for your about:config (you might have to create some of these entries by Right Click –> New– > Interger or String
network.dns.disableIPv6: set “false”
“content.notify.backoffcount”: set “5“; (Five)
“plugin.expose_full_path”: set “true”.
“ui.submenuDelay”: set “0; (zero)

Reduce RAM usage to 10mb when Firefox is minimized:

This little hack will drop Firefox’s RAM usage down to 10 Mb when minimized:
1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter “config.trim_on_minimize”. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.
These simple tweaks will make your web browsing with Mozilla Firefox 2-3 times faster and easier. And I think they are fairly easy to apply. Enjoy!

Basic Image Adjustments

VLC provides basic image adjustment options. Under Basic tab, you can play around with various color adjustments; Hue, Contrast, Brightness, Gamma, etc. On adjusting the color, you can view changes in realtime. Color adjustment options can also be very helpful especially when you are playing a video, having noise, glitches and lacks normal color pattern.

Video Sharpness effect

Apart from basic image adjustment options, there is another much demanded feature which will let you adjust video sharpness up to the acme of clarity. Under Basic tab, enable Sharpen option and adjust the sigma control as required. It will show you the changes in realtime so you can promptly adjust sharpness accordingly.

Scrutinize the wonderful sharp effect it produced in the video shown below.

Transforming to different angles

The Transform option allows you to rotate video by multiple degrees. Enabling Transform option would activate the video rotation feature. It offers rotation in 90,180, and 270 degrees. This comes useful if you have a video that you recorded via the camcorder in a different angle.

Video magnification/Zoom in & out

Another intriguing feature is Video Magnification. Under Geometry tab, enable Magnification/Zoom option, to let it zoom in/out the video. You will see a small window at top left corner with main magnification control. Fill in the triangle by clicking it to zoom into the video. To view the desired video portion, move the square capturing screen across the box.

Video Rotation

With an excellent rotation feature, you can rotate the video in any direction. Enable Rotation option, and start moving the rotary control in circle.

Add a bit fun with Puzzle Game

The moment you hit Puzzle game option, it would turn the video into puzzling pieces. Enter number of columns & rows in which you need to solve out video puzzle. It divides the video into specified chunks on the screen.

Under Color fun tab, you can play around with colors, there is absolutely no list of colors to select from. You can write color code to introduce it in the video. Apart from this, through Color Extraction option, you can enter a specific color code to extract it from the video.

Panoramic view (Optimal for Muti-Screen)

Vout/Overlay is another superb feature, allowing video junkies to spread the video on the desktop wall in multiple windows. In this way, you can individually handle, manage and change the position of the video parts separated in windows. To make this effect look awesome, try it on a large HD TV or projector. On the left side enabling Add text option would add the text in each window.

Adding Logo

Overlaying logo option comes in handy, you can easily insert a logo (PNG/JPG format) in the video as a watermark. It also helps in overlaying existing logo with an image. To make use of this feature, under Logo tab, specify the full path of image where it is residing, adjust transparency control and allocate the position. The importance of this feature is that you can add the company logo while giving a video presentation.

Synchronization

Kudos to VLC for bringing up sync feature, those who havent used it yet, really missed out an important one. Under Synchronization tab, you can manually manage the A/V (Audio/video) sync and deal with them by adjusting the time. Most of the converted videos lacks A/V sync primarily because of change in FPS (Frames Per Second), this actually invokes the problem of either video or audio lagging behind. For adjusting the A/V sync problem, change the values in Advance of audio over video input pane, positive value refers to as video is lagging behind and conversely is the case with negative values which refers to as audio lagging behind.

Right beneath A/V sync settings, you will find Subtitles settings, to make subtitle properly sync with video, i.e, appears on right time. Adjust the timing in a way as defined in aforementioned criteria for A/V sync, positive values refers to subtitles showing up ahead of video. At the bottom, you can change subtitles speed. It may happen sometimes, on downloading subtitles from different source, or from different author, the speed (FPS) is not aligned with the video FPS, i.e, video running on different FPS and conversely subtitles FPS differs. To cope up with this problem, speeding of the subtitles option helps amazingly.

Record Webcam Video

Recording video from a webcam is another awesome feature VLC offers. It automatically populates the list of devices attached with your system. To record a video from the Webcam, under Media menu , click Capture Device. From Video device name, select the webcam device and click Play. It will turn on the webcam, from its main IDE, you can start recording the video instantly

Bookmarking media

Now this must be surprising to most users. Did you know that you can bookmark as well? VLC allow users to bookmark media files , whether you are playing it from local media, or streaming it from any remote location. You can instantly bookmark the media file and access it anytime later.

Advance Open File

Bluray DVD discs & rips comes with separate audio channels for giving the real effect of surrounded sound. Unlike others, VLC features Advance Open File option, which allows you to open a video file along with the separate audio file (if existed). You will find rip-less video synchronization with the external audio file ‘phenomenal. Next time, you are planning on playing Bluray rip, take a whir of this feature.

Take Snapshots (PNG,JPG format supported)

As VLC offers instantaneous pause and allows playback in frames, as you can see here. You might need to take a snapshot of either specific frame or an instant paused frame. Guess what? VLC lets you take screenshots as well. You can capture a frame either by pausing the video, or while playbacking video frame-by-frame. To take snapshot more promptly assign a hotkey to snapshot feature from VLC Preferences. Otherwise from Video menu , click Snapshot to capture a screenshot of a frame.

Customize Interface

There are so many features & functions VLC offers which makes it distinctive from others, Among those features, one is interface customization feature. Under View menu, you will find Customize Interface. It allows you to; change menus, buttons, add/delete buttons, change layout of main layout, and change playback controls positions as well.

Debug Logging

Want to know what went wrong with Video FPS, codecs you are using, why some feature is not compatible, or why you are encountering lagging and other relevant issues? VLC can tell you about any problem. With its intrinsic Debug logging feature, it can inform you about info like; lack of correspondence (in Network), video discrepancy, why feature is not supported or not compatible, which codec is missing, app crash, and erratic A/V halt due to unidentifiable reason. To view log, from View menu, under Add Interlace, click Debug logging.
