Hey everybody, if you still haven't figured this out yet, lemma tell ya, I'm single and dating guys is still the number one topic of this blog. Yeah, I usually disdain women that always talk like "my boyfriend this" "my boyfriend that" all day long or cut their wrists in the bath tub when their guys dump them but deep in my heart I like talking about dating guys. That's just how I am. I'm a two-faced bitch. So tonight I want to talk about neurotic Jewish guys.
Why am I attracted to neurotic Jewish guys? Well, let's see what I've gotten in the first place. I'm in Southern California. We all have dated our very unique local products. What are they? No, not cabernet sauvignon from Napa Valley, not our Terminator Governor and certainly not Katie Morgan, your horn dog, but our laid-back stoners from all over Los Angeles. I know you know what I mean. Stoners are easy-going, open-minded, accepting fans of vegans, ecstasy users, whales in the Pacific Ocean, solar panels, gays and even the Dalai Lama. The Californian stoners have so much love to give. They are full of love. They are surrounded by love. They wanted to give the State 2 billions in tax to help the budget crisis if we can legalize selling marijuana. So as a single woman, I have a big pool of tolerant, diverse and liberal pod-smokers to choose here. Sounds good on the outside huh? Wait, hold on a second, what if I'm a slacker myself? Like if I'd always leave dirty dishes in the sink, chicken dump sticks in the oven and forget to feed the dog, what kind of a guy is good for me?

What? She's not even Chinese? Who cares? We all look the same anyway.

An OCD guy! A guy that checks the sink, the oven, the dog, the toilet, the fridge, the shower, the laptop, the fucking everything a hundred times a day! That way, I'll never forget, or never dare forget, anything. How? Well, let's imagine the scenario: if your guy came home from work and found a tray of baked chicken drum sticks in the toaster oven while you are not home, what do you think it's gonna happen? No, not only he's gonna ask you what time you baked them, and no, not only he's gonna nag you left rotten food in the oven even if the chicken was already salted and greased that Northern Chinese people some decades ago lived on, he's actually gonna make a fucking big deal out of it that you just wish there's a hole on the other side of the toilet so you can just swim through your pee and crap and hang there for the night. It's a great idea not to forget things, isn't it?
Hm? Aw, what? Somebody has already used this pee and poop skinny dipping idea? When? Oh Transpotting? How'd you know that's my favorite movie? Oh I get it, you're just trying to get me admit I'm a drug addict. Aw, no, I'm not a friend of drugs at all. You know why? Because I'm Chinese. Anything luxurious Chinese people consume has to be ostentatious as well. Tshirt with Prada or Agnes B across in the front? Love it. Polo or crocodile on the chest? Lovely. Mercedes-Benz or Bimmer? Must-have. But anything expensive while they can't brag about to their cousins during Lunar New Year, like pure oxygen, a relationship with an ordinary woman who doesn't look like Zhang Ziyi in any way or recreational drugs? That's considered futile and wasteful in Chinese culture. We just don't spend money on things others can't see. Hope you understand.
See, I don't know if you've thought of it, but I think a Chinese woman and a Jewish guy make the best couple. Why? Because honestly, I think these two ethnicities' ancestors were roommates during college. The part that controls the thoughts of emotions and money of the human brain on these two ethnicities shows the exact same growth, just like all dogs can guard, but terriers can nip, kill and eat the entire head of a lovely kitten's or a human baby's much better than other breeds. You know what I mean?
Why is that? Well, it's in their blood.

The Impact of the I Ching on Merce Cunningham and Deborah Hay

A Talk by Wei Chengxin, Ohio University

There were three developmental waves of the I Ching in China, led by Fu Xi-Shi, Zhou Wen, and Confucius, respectively. Similarly, there were three surges of orientalism in the West: Orientalism, Neo-Orientalism, and Cultural-Orientalism. Each of these surges was a result of the West’s heightened accessibility to Eastern culture. Western artists associated with each wave reflect the “relative” understanding of Asian philosophy during their time. Ruth St. Denis scratched the surface of Eastern culture at the turn of the century after she came back from the Paris Exposition Universelle. In the Neo-Orientalism era, Merce Cunningham likely encountered the I Ching because the first English translation arrived in the U.S. in 1951. While most critics believe Cunningham worked with I Ching principles, Wei Chengxin will argue that he was only standing in the “doorway” of its philosophy. On the other hand, Deborah Hay was able to steep herself in the actual philosophy due to Cultural-Orientalism brought about by the discovery of the Ma-Wang-Tui texts, which increased the dissemination, accessibility, and understanding of the I Ching. As a result, the I Ching penetrated her very life, and informed her creative process.

Wei Chengxin graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy in 1997, where he studied classical Chinese dance for eleven years. He subsequently worked for three years as principal dancer of the Guangdong Provincial Dance Theatre. In 2004, Chengxin co-founded Moving Dragon, a contemporary dance company that focuses on cross-cultural fusion between Eastern and Western dance styles. In 2007, Chengxin was the recipient of Canada's Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award. He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance at Ohio University where he teaches Modern, Ballet and Dance Composition.

The often discussed reference of The Way We Were in Sex and the City happens when Carrie thinks her dream guy Mr Big dumps her and marries a stupid fashion model because she is a complicated woman, just like Hubbell dumps Katie and marries an airhead in The Way We Were. This really pisses me off because this is the biggest bourgeois joke one can possibly make of a socially considered unattractive Marxist Jewish woman waiting table and working in a radio station for different causes she believes in.

Seriously, are you kidding me? This 1990s shallow, gold-digging Jewish-American princess Carrie who buys $400-a-pair-of shoes has the nerve to compare herself with Katie, a 1940s idealistic Jewish communist activist when a jock dumps her?! This gotta be a joke. 2012 Fall Quarter: Neurotic (Jewish) Men 101

In the past few years, I have been involved with, not exactly a proper paranoid neurotic Jewish guy, but a man who is genetically and culturally equivalent. Think Larry David and Woody Allen. I obviously have not mastered him as an object of study. However, it is time to at least start composing a list of the characteristics of his species, in order to better understand this special mutation of human beings:

They have to watch a movie in a theater exactly from the start to the end. In fact, they arrive the theater half an hour before the movie starts—with me. If we are not early enough, they freak out. In the past, I just also freaked out when my guy freaked out. Now, after four years of dating him, I just take Lexapro and feel fine.
They know the difference between an em dash and an en dash. Very helpful.
They despise and ridicule intellectuals, such as a professor who teaches a course called "TV, Media and Culture" in UCLA, even if sometimes, they happen to be one of them.
They ignore what I say in a conversation and respond by talking about a completely irrelevant yet an obsessed topic of their own, such as a strange sound or smell in the bedroom that does not really exist in reality but only in their imagination.
They wear eyeglasses.
They have slightly off family members. "Slightly off," here, is my very nice way to put it.
They have a rigid—sometimes uninformed—opinion about medical care, medication, therapy, supplements, diet and hygiene. In their dreams, they imagine germs and viruses have scary faces and hairy legs which attack humans and look like Shrek.
They don't like trying unfamiliar foods. When you force them to, they ask what the food is made of, where the ingredients are brought from, how long the ingredients have sat on the kitchen counter after being taken out from the freezer, what cleanliness grade the restaurant gets, etc. This is why Antacid is your friend when you dine with them.
They are so talented and funny-as-hell that they make me want to go to bed with them. This is usually the only way they can trick attractive women to go out with them at the beginning of a relationship, unless they are also one of the ridiculously rich Jews.
They have serious hypochondria.
They check on and question any unusual minor everyday objects you own, such as an African black facial soap, a syringe (with no needle) or a pack of antique Japanese cigarettes (for decoration) in your bathroom.
They bring a thermometer with them everywhere and take their temperature all the time. When they think they are sick, this habit gets accelerated to every five minutes. Their favorite electronic gadgets are thermometers, alarm timepieces and well designed umbrellas.
They enjoy helping small, weak and poor things, like an orphan from Cambodia, a sick old dog or something. Certainly, they are not evil. However, they can be pricks or completely insensitive to others' feelings sometimes. That is not their true nature but more of their fucked-up upbringing. You can't do anything about this. Unfortunately, it is an accident of human emotional development during the modern age of catastrophe and trauma.
They conform to the traditional gender role model and enjoy a relationship the most when the woman is inferior to them. If you are a hot, strong and independent girlfriend, dumb it down a little bit from time to time. They don't see women of the same or more intelligence as their ideal mates. Close the lid of a jar of spaghetti sauce as tightly as you can, then helplessly beg him to open it for you. Ask him how much interest you pay if you have a 3% APR auto loan and pay $475 a month. Nevertheless, make sure you do the latter only if your boyfriend can count. If he happens to fail in math, do the former.
People either love them as genii or hate them as freaks or scumbags. There are seldom "neutral" situations.

Looks like this is a good start. I should do more research on them.

Los Angeles – June 1, 2012 – The Los Angeles New Media Festival – the largest digital shorts competition of its kind in the U.S. – returns this summer in conjunction with Downtown Film Festival L.A. (DFFLA), July 6-13.

Hosted by the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art (LACDA), the L.A. New Media Festival showcases new artists from around the world who work in the digital realm. The winners will have their moving images and motion pictures screened in the LACDA gallery in downtown Los Angeles during Downtown Film Festival L.A.

Project Notes
Nola Productions is casting "All the King's Men", by Robert Penn
Warren. This play is taken from Warren's Pulitizer Prize-winning
novel about political corruption, the misuse of power, and the
consequences of searching for and finding the truth. It is loosely
based on the life of 1930's Louisiana Governor Huey P. Long, and is
directed by David Chrzanowski, who recently directed the successful
West Coast Premiere of "The Spidey Project" for Theatre Unleashed.
Darci Dixon, one of the founding members of Theatre Unleashed is
Assistant Director. Produced by Gordon Carmadelle and Nola
Productions, who are coming off last summer's run of "Cat on a Hot Tin
Roof" in Santa Barbara. Rehearals begin on Tuesday, June 5.
Performances are Aug. 9-Sept. 15 (plus a possible 2-week extension) at
the El Portal Forum Theater in N. Hollywood.

The Installation Project at Windward School
Windward School, an independent college preparatory school for grades 7-‐12 in West Los Angeles, invites artists to submit resumes for our artist-‐in-‐residence program, The Installation Project. The residency gives artists an opportunity to work with highly motivated students, and it gives the community an opportunity to watch and engage with artists as they create their work. We are currently seeking proposals for the 2012-‐13 school year.
The work may be done by any variety of means and result in any variety of forms, so long as it provides opportunity for the community to actively engage in the artistic process. Artists specifically working in installations, new genres, new media and contemporary practices are encouraged to apply.
The artist will be given six weeks, Jan 3 to Feb 15, 2013, to install, perform, and/or display the work. The residency will include an opening, promotional materials, a stipend, and funds for materials. Arrangements will be made for the artist to formally meet with students, parents, and teachers to talk about their work, as well as work with teachers and students on their project.

LOS ANGELES – APR 25, 2012 – The organizers of Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles (DFFLA), a nonprofit organization, announced today that the 4th edition of the independent cinema showcase will be held July 6-13, 2012.

With the announcement the film festival officially opens its film submissions, and filmmakers everywhere are invited to submit their films for screening consideration through Withoutabox.com (the international film submission service). The festival will showcase all types of films that reflect downtown L.A.'s unique cultural diversity and its mission to present authentically independent cinema in the Film Capital of the World.

The festival also pays homage during each edition to the unique role that downtown Los Angeles played in the development of American cinema. This year's festival will present a to-be-announced Silent Film as part of this tradition.

Over the festival's 10 days this summer, movie-goers can expect a wide variety of film-related experiences including dozens of screenings but also workshops, lectures, art exhibits, receptions and other after-hour events. Venues include Downtown Independent Theater and Los Angeles Center for Digital Art with more venues to be announced later.

During past editions the festival has premiered new films by Spike Lee and Barbara Kopple, showcased features with Paul Newman, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Anna May Wong, and honored with our Independent Film Pioneer Award Seymour Cassel and John Hawkes.

Williams Fellowship Program. The Fellowship Program is designed to
nurture future leaders in the field of literature, and especially the
nonprofit arena. This year, the Joseph F. McCrindle Foundation

YOUTH CAN CREATE SILENT FILMS THIS SUMMER
AT FREE WORKSHOP AT WILLIAM S. HART PARK
Applications are now open for 30 spaces; deadline is June 1
The workshop is back by popular demand through L.A. County's Civic Art Program

Applications are now open for a free workshop in which children ages 10 to 17 can make short silent films. The workshop from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on five Saturdays - July 7, 14, 21 and 28 and August 4, takes place at William S. Hart Park and Museum and celebrates Hart's silent film legacy. The Los Angeles County Arts Commission joins with the Parks Department, the William S. Hart Museum and Fifth District Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich to create this opportunity.

Due to space limitations, only 30 children can participate. Interested parents and children are asked to complete a short application form which can be downloaded at http://www.lacountyarts.org/civicart.htm or picked up in person at the Friends of the Hart Park and Museum gift shop, and then return it by June 1 (receipt date) to: CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP), 24700 McBean Parkway, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.

The young participants will spend one Saturday learning about acting and theatre with teachers from Newhall's Canyon Theatre Guild and four Saturdays learning about film and creating a short silent film including editing their own films with teachers from the CalArts Community Arts Partnership using state-of-the-art equipment. Students will also be taken on a private tour of the William S. Hart Museum. Attendance is mandatory for all five workshops. William S. Hart Park and Museum is located at 24151 Newhall Avenue, Newhall, California.

This theatre and filmmaking workshop is back for a second year. The 2011 workshop received considerable press. The students were interviewed and their films screened on the Santa Clarita Valley cable television station. The workshop was designed to give local youth, who may not know about Hart's history, a chance to explore the world of silent films.

William S. Hart was born in Newburgh, New York in 1864 and started his acting career in his twenties. At the age of 49, Hart came west to Hollywood to start his movie career. During the next 11 years, he made more than 65 silent films, the last being "Tumbleweeds" in 1925. In 1921, Hart purchased a ranch house and surrounding 265 acres in Santa Clarita. He built a 22-room mansion which today houses his collection of western art, Native American artifacts and early Hollywood memorabilia. He lived at the ranch nearly 20 years until his death in 1946. In his will, Hart gave the Horseshoe Ranch to the County of Los Angeles. It was to be set aside for the use and enjoyment of the public, at no charge. Today, the Horseshoe Ranch consists of 265 acres. Both the ranch house and the Hart residence are open to the public.

LOS ANGELES- Turn on the TV today and odds are good you'll see white lab
coats, DNA swabs and magnified fingerprints on computer screens. CSI is hot
stuff, in fictional series ("NCIS: Los Angeles," "Bones," "Dexter," "CSI")
and documentary programming. But it's not often that the general public gets
a chance to tour a real crime lab with the forensic investigators and
educators who use its tools to solve crimes and develop new research
strategies.

Leave it to LAVA (The Los Angeles Visionaries Association), the creative
consortium helmed by Richard Schave and Kim Cooper, the married couple whose
Esotouric bus adventures have transformed the guided tour experience, to
make a real-life CSI experience accessible to interested laypersons. Working
closely with one of LAVA's most intriguing Visionary members, Professor
Donald Johnson, they've developed a series of events highlighting the work
conducted at Cal State L.A.'s state-of-the-art Hertzberg-Davis Forensic
Science Center, presented through tours and short lectures from the
scientist/educators and graduate students who work there.

LAVA's inaugural lecture and tour in the CSULA crime lab in October 2010 was
fully reserved in three hours, with hundreds of people signing up to be on
the waiting list. The repeat engagement in November also sold out quickly,
as did the Phil Spector trace evidence presentation in April 2011, the July
2011 event focusing on Patrick Tillman's death in Afghanistan and the
November 2011 program on using national databases to solve local crimes. The
latest sell out was Ed Nordskog's "Inside the Mind of the Arsonist" in March
2012. Space is very limited and pre-reservation recommended for this
unprecedented opportunity to tour the crime lab, learn from experienced
forensic investigators and educators, and discover the real art and science
of crime scene investigation. A portion of the proceeds from this event
supports the research of Criminalistics graduate students at Cal State Los
Angeles.

ABOUT THE "THE KILLER BEHIND THE CAMERA" PROGRAM:

In the 1950s, wannabe photographer Harvey Glatman kidnapped and murdered
three models after tricking them into agreeing to be bound and gagged. In
1995, model Linda Sobek was kidnapped and murdered by Charles Rathbun, the
professional photographer who had booked her services for a commercial
shoot. These two similar Los Angeles County murder cases, four decades
apart, reveal how much crime scene investigation has changed in the digital
age, while the antisocial instincts that lead to murder remain the same.

On June 3, you can join Heidi Robbins, the Assistant Director of the
Scientific Services Bureau crime lab of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Department, and the lead investigator on the Linda Sobek case, and Mike
Fratantoni, an LASD Deputy who sits on the board of the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Museum, for a fascinating afternoon uncovering "The Killer Behind
The Camera," an in-depth presentation drawing on personal casework and
historic evidence files.

"The Killer Behind The Camera" focuses on two criminal cases in which sexual
offenders used the role of professional photographer in order to gain the
trust of hired models, who they then murdered. These strikingly similar
cases happened four decades apart, and illustrate the evolution in police
work and forensic science from the 1950s through the 1990.

Lecture #1: Linda Sobek, a swimsuit model and former Los Angeles Raiders
cheerleader, was murdered in 1995 by photographer Charles Rathbun, who lured
her to a remote dry lake bed in the Mojave Desert to shoot photos with a new
Lexus SUV. Her body was dumped in the Angeles National Forest, north of Los
Angeles. Rathburn lead deputies to the body after confessing he had
accidentally struck Sobek while trying to teach her a car stunt on the lake
bed; in fact, she was asphyxiated. Heidi Robbins, the Assistant Director of
the Scientific Services Bureau crime lab of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's
Department, and the lead investigator on the case, will outline the forensic
investigation which debunked Rathbun's testimony and the faked photos
offered up as evidence of consensual sex in Rathbun's defense. Charles
Rathbun was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in 1996.

Lecture #2: Harvey Glatman was a serial killer who was active in Southern
California and Colorado in the late 1950s. Obsessed with the posed crime
scene photographs illustrating pulp magazines, Glatman posed as a
professional photographer in order to lure models into posing for scenes
illustrating his murderous fantasies. Glatman photographed his victims while
assaulting them, then strangled and dumped their bodies in the desert. Mike
Fratantoni, an LASD Deputy who sits on the board of the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Museum, will talk about Glatman's crimes and his extraordinary
capture, which took place after the model who could have been his last
victim overpowered and beat her assailant on the side of the highway. Harvey
Glatman was convicted of two counts of first degree murder and executed in
1959.

Between the case history lectures, the hands-on lab section will focus on
methods of forensic photography and analysis.

By the afternoon¹s conclusion, attendees will have a deeper understanding of
the real work that¹s done in the field by forensic investigators, and the
tools and techniques used to interpret crime scenes for the benefit of
investigating officers and juries.
