Quando estamos cansados ou entediados, nosso metabolismo diminui e acabamos respirando mais devagar. Dessa forma, o nível de gás carbônico no sangue tende a aumentar. Esse aumento é detectado e então bocejamos, inspirando uma maior quantidade de ar e consequentemente uma maior quantidade de oxigênio. Esse ato equilibra os níveis de O2 e CO2 no sangue.
