However, now it's clear that we need to check for the EGFR mutation, and if they have that mutation it is likely that it is better for that patient as their initial treatment to get erlotinib instead of chemotherapy," added Dr. Alan Astrow, director of hematology and medical oncology at Maimonides Medical Center in New York City. "It's an important result." Read more…

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Men Not Being Told Enough About PSA Tests

(HealthDay News) -- Most men are not being told the pros and cons of PSA tests, two new studies find.

Although PSA tests can detect prostate cancer, they can't predict which cancers are aggressive and which are so slow-growing that they don't need to be treated. This leads to overtreatment, which can have immediate consequences, such as impotence and incontinence, and only a tiny increase in survival, researchers say.

"Men in the United States have not been adequately told about the questions regarding the efficacy of prostate cancer screening," said Dr. Otis W. Brawley, chief medical officer at the American Cancer Society, who was not involved in either study.

"They have been misled and over-promised," he said. "People have replaced the hope that prostate cancer screening is beneficial with the message that it is definitely beneficial."

The reports are published in the Sept. 28 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine. Read more…

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

How vitamin D helps prevent lung cancer

by: Aurora Geib

Increasing vitamin D may now be a matter of life or death, as recent studies have shown that it may play a vital role in the fight against lung cancer. To date, lung cancer is one of the three most common cancers that kill men and women in developed countries with a statistic of one million deaths every year.

Researchers from the University of California at San Diego discovered a correlative relationship between higher rates of lung cancer and less exposure to the sun.

Cancer and vitamin D

The study compared data from national and international databases and compared the lung cancer rates in 111 countries. It found a correlation with smoking, lung cancer and significant lower UVB exposure. Although the current study focused only on lung cancer, research conducted on other cancers have pointed to the fact that most cancer cases are seen in subjects living far from the equator, suggesting that lower levels of vitamin D also account for a high risk of colon and other cancers. Read more…

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Is Big Pharma behind push to release critical details about H5N1 'super virus'?

by: Jonathan Benson

For the past several months, there has been an ongoing debate about whether or not to publish controversial research about a new militarized and highly-virulent strain of H5N1 avian flu capable of spreading between mammals, including between humans. The U.S. National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity (NSABB) holds the position that certain details about how the virus was created should be withheld from publishing, while various others in the scientific community, many of which appear to work for vaccine interests, are demanding full disclosure.

The issue stems from research conducted by Dr. Ron Fouchier and his colleagues from Erasmus Medical Centre in the Netherlands that resulted in the deliberate creation of a weaponized form of H5N1 that spreads between mammals. Prior to this research, H5N1 transmission was limited primarily to birds, as natural forms of the virus do not typically afflict mammals (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=26358).

But after years of warning the public that H5N1 would one day magically transform into a "super virus" capable of killing billions of people, the U.S. government and others conveniently saw their prediction come true in the form of an intentional "transformation" brought about by research, the details of which many are pushing to have published for the whole world to see. And based on recent reports, those pushing for their release appear to have dollar signs in their eyes, as gaining access to how the virus was made will allow them to create vaccines for this super virus once it is "accidentally" released into the wild. Read more…

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Natural cranberry juice more effective than pills for fighting infections

by: Michelle Bosmier

A new study from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Massachusetts
confirms that natural cranberry juice is more effective in fighting infections
than pills containing concentrated doses of the flavonoids found in
cranberries. The study published in the Food Science and Biotechnology journal
was led by Dr. Terri Camesano, professor of chemical engineering.

The new paper adds to the highly positive conclusions previously published by
professor Camesano on the health benefits of cranberries. Earlier WPI studies
have shown that their juice can prevent infectious bacteria, specifically a
virulent form of E. coli, from attaching to the wall of the urinary tract. This
strain is covered with hair-like projections that help it hook onto urinary
tract cells.

Exposure to bioactive elements in cranberries reduce the ability of the
bacteria to adhere to healthy cells. As a result, the E. coli is unable to form
a biofilm, which would allow the bacteria to grow and spread further.
Eventually they are easily eliminated by the natural flow of urine. Read more…

Japan has been
reporting for several days that much of the raw milk being produced in the
Fukushima province is now radioactive. This raises today's quiz question: If
the FDA were operating in Japan, what would they do about this raw, radioactive
milk?

Answer: They would seize it because it's RAW, not because it's radioactive.

After all, it is the FDA that has long supported the mass irradiation of the
food supply as a way to sterilize it and "kill pathogens." The food
irradiation agenda has long been a top priority of the FDA (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6844).
Meanwhile, the FDA has been a steady enemy of raw milk (and other raw foods).

Perhaps the Fukushima nuclear power plant has a future after all: Instead of
producing power, it can function as an FDA-approved food irradiation center
where fresh, raw foods are exposed to radiation to make them "safe"
for public consumption (http://www.dreddyclinic.com/findinformation/rr/radiationsickness.php).

Does your doctor want to irradiate your thyroid gland?
It's not just your food that's being irradiated, of course: It's also your
body. In addition to the radiation-emitting mammography machines and cancer
radiotherapy treatment machines used in hospitals every day, there's also a
very common radiation treatment for so-called "hyperthyroidism" that
involves injecting a radioactive form of iodine into patients and "burning
out" their thyroid gland. Read more…

All regular readers
of NaturalNews know that researchers have discovered chocolate (especially the
organic, not junked up with additives and sugar type) contains phytochemicals
which appear to promote good health. But no one has had much of a clue about
the specifics of some of those benefits on the cardiovascular system -- until
now. Scientists at the European Society of Cardiology Congress currently
underway in Paris just announced that chocolate provides huge protection from
heart disease as well as stroke.

That's great news because, despite the billions of dollars spent on mainstream
medicine's drugs and surgical interventions, the battle against cardiovascular
disease obviously needs some serious help. Currently, the World Health
Organization (WHO) predicts that by 2030 nearly 23.6 million people will die
yearly from heart disease. Read more…

(HealthDay News) --
Green tea may weaken bones, suggests a U.S. study on mice.

Obese and lean mice had different amounts of green tea extract -- 0 percent, 1
percent or 2 percent -- added to their diets. Previous studies had found that
consumption of the equivalent of 1 percent of the extract decreased the risk of
cardiovascular disease in Japanese adults and protected obese mice against
fatty liver disease.

After mice in the new study had consumed the experimental diet for six weeks,
their bones were analyzed for size, mineral content and architecture. Mice that
ate a diet that included green tea extract weighed less than those that did not
have the extract added to their food. The difference was more pronounced among
obese mice, the researchers noted. Read more…

Acid reflux is the condition where food and stomach acids regurgitate back into
the esophagus, causing burning pain in the lower chest accompanied by a host of
other symptoms such as bloating, belching, sore throats, snoring, difficulty
breathing and ulcers.

The early stages of digestion occur with the release of hydrochloric acid in
the stomach to break down foods. Later during the digestive process,
bicarbonate is released by the pancreas to help neutralize those acids. In some
instances, this process doesn't happen, contributing to painful reflux or GERD
symptoms. Eating certain alkaline-forming foods can help reduce over-acidity
and calm the stomach, relieving pain and other unwanted symptoms. In addition,
foods that contribute to an alkaline-forming state in the system help prevent
acidosis, a serious bodily condition that sets the stage for all disease. Readmore…

You may want to think twice about cooking that meat well-done, according to a new study out of the University of Texas. Researchers there have found that charring meat by frying, barbecuing or otherwise heavily cooking it can lead to the formation of cancer-causing chemicals in the meat.

The study explains that people who eat well-done meat double their risk of developing bladder cancer when compared to people who eat meat on the rarer end of the spectrum. This is due primarily to the heterocyclic amines (HCAs) that form when meat is cooked at very high heat.

Researchers found that three different HCA chemicals form during high-heat cooking that, collectively, raise a person's cancer risk by more than 250 percent. And in people who are genetically predisposed to developing the disease from the meat, the risk jumps nearly 500 percent. Read more...

The largest source of calories for individuals living in industrialized nations comes from sugar. Sugar increases insulin levels which promote fat accumulation and inflammation throughout the body. Sugar consumption and elevated insulin accelerate the aging process and create an environment conducive to degenerative disease.

The chemistry of sugar is based on the number of carbohydrates and includes monosaccharides, disaccharides and oligosaccharides. The most important monosaccharides are glucose, dextrose, and fructose. The primary difference in these deals with the way they are digested and metabolized. Glucose and dextrose are basically the same form of sugar. Many sugars can be identified by their characteristic "ose" ending.

Many of these sugars also combine to form complex sugars such as sucrose. Sucrose, typical table sugar, is a disaccharide (2 sugar forms) that is half glucose and half fructose. Meanwhile, high fructose corn syrup is 55% fructose and 45% glucose. Read more...

Calcium intake levels of more than 800 mg/day may be unnecessary for maintaining calcium metabolism if vitamin D status is adequate, according to a study in the November 9 issue of JAMA.
The importance of adequate vitamin D status for optimum bone health has received increased recognition in recent years, with higher recommended intake levels being proposed by some investigators, according to background information in the article. The ideal intake is not known, and different criteria have been proposed for estimating population requirements. Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D has been the generally accepted indicator of vitamin D status, but no universal consensus has been reached regarding which serum values constitute sufficiency. An inverse relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) is well established. Parathyroid hormone is a major hormone maintaining normal serum concentrations of calcium and phosphate and is itself regulated through levels of calcitriol and serum calcium. An insufficiency of vitamin D or calcium is generally associated with an increase in PTH. Read more...

by: J. D. Heyes

You have no doubt heard that sugary,
high-fructose soda is a major contributing factor to the nation's
ever-growing waistline, but new research indicates that even in
moderation, drinking just one soda a day is a major health risk,
especially for men.

According to a new study published in the medical journal Circulation, a daily soda increases your heart risk http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57395843/soda-a-day-may-lead-to-heart-attacks-in-men/?tag=broadcast, even if it's not leading to much weight gain.

The
ingestion of such high concentrations of sugar "appears to be an
independent risk factor for heart disease," says the study's lead author
Frank Hu, M.D., a professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the
Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), in Boston.

"Continually
subjecting our bodies to high amounts of glucose, to high blood sugar
levels that trigger large secretions of insulin results in stresses that
in the long run show up as high risk of heart disease and diabetes,"
the study's co-author, Dr. Walter Willett, told CBS News. Read more...
Colon cancer is the second most common form of the disease affecting men and women in the US, with nearly 150,000 new diagnoses each year.

Nutrition experts and alternative practitioners understand that cancer is largely a disease caused by poor lifestyle behaviors including a diet lacking an optimal intake of vitamins and minerals. Chronic illnesses including colon cancer are the result of many years and decades of low nutritional status, as support for a healthy immune response is suppressed. Scientists now provide compelling evidence in support of whole-food based vitamin and mineral supplementation to dramatically lower the risk of colorectal cancer. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

White tea, witch hazel and rose extract are powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging botanicals

by: Amelia Bentrup

The ancient wisdom of using white tea, witch hazel and rose to heal and prevent many ailments has been backed by recent scientific research. A team of researchers at Kingston University in London recently collaborated with Neal's Yard Remedies (a British brand) to determine the effects of various natural substances on inflammation in the human body. The researchers added white tea, witch hazel or rose extracts to human skin cells and studied the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity of the substances. It was discovered that all three substances were extremely good at preventing and healing inflammation. Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Kidney Injury While Hospitalized May Lead to Future Dialysis

(HealthDay News) -- Among patients who encounter serious kidney problems while hospitalized, those who require dialysis are not at increased risk of dying if they are able to recover and leave, but they are more likely to need dialysis on a regular basis in the future, researchers say.

According to the authors of a new study published in the Sept. 16 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, kidney injuries are common among adults who receive care in hospitals. According to the research, babies who are breastfed develop stronger lungs than their non-breastfed counterparts, even when their mothers have existing respiratory conditions like asthma.

A comprehensive review of published literature on the subject conducted between 2007 and 2011, the new report evaluated 1,500 children from birth up until the time they turned 14 years old, comparing rates of asthma among those who were exclusively breastfed to those who were partially breastfed or not breastfed at all. The team discovered that exclusive breastfeeding was the most powerful method of ensuring strong and healthy lungs that held more air volume and had less air loss. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Beating Heart Differs by Gender, Age: Study

(HealthDay News) -- The human heart twists and turns as it beats, and a German study shows how the twisting and turning differs between men and women, and young and old.
In the study, published in the Dec. 8 online edition of Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging, researchers at University Hospital Freiburg describe the different heartbeats they saw in 29 men and 29 women, all healthy, using an advanced imaging technology called MRI tissue phase mapping. The participants ranged in age from 20 to 60-plus.
The healthy heart doesn't just contract as it pumps blood. The base of the left ventricle, the chamber that pumps blood to the body, changes its direction of rotation up to six times for each beat.
"The left ventricle doesn't just shorten or get narrower," said Dr. Thomas C. Gerber, associate professor of medicine and radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. "It really twists like a dishrag, a very effective way of getting the blood out."
Clear differences by age and gender emerged from the study, the report said. A. Witte from Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham, told Reuters Health.

On the other hand, “CHF patients are at higher risk and might have multiple deficiencies. Replacing just one micronutrient might expose deficiency elsewhere (the vitamin E and C interaction, for example), so a combination is important, Witte explained.

He and his and colleagues investigated the effects of long-term multiple micronutrient supplementation in 32 patients older than age 70 years with stable heart failure.

After an average of 295 days, the patients who had been assigned to get micronutrient supplements experienced significant improvements in cardiac pumping ability, the team reports in the European Heart Journal. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Blood-pressure-lowering drugs should be offered to everyone

Yes, this is a real suggestion to treat everyone with BP meds no matter what the BP is!! Nearly one in five men will develop the disease during their lifetime. New research demonstrates that increased consumption of ground beef or processed meat is positively associated with aggressive prostate cancer, according to a study published in the journal PLoS ONE. Researchers found a strong correlation between well cooked, grilled or barbequed red meat and processed meats and the development of prostate cancer. Health-minded individuals will want to severely limit and review cooking methods for red and processed meat consumption to limit this prostate cancer risk factor. Read more...

Ayurstate for Prostate Care

Regular Teeth Cleanings Could Cut Heart Attack Risk: Study

(HealthDay News) -- People who visit the dentist regularly to have their teeth cleaned may lower their risk for heart attack or stroke, new research suggests.

The finding is to be presented Sunday at the American Heart Association's annual meeting, in Orlando, Fla.

In following more than 100,000 people with no history of heart problems or stroke for an average of seven years, researchers from Taiwan found those who had their teeth scraped and cleaned by a dentist or dental hygienist at least twice a year for two years had a 24 percent lower risk for heart attack and a 13 percent lower risk for stroke compared to those who never went to the dentist or only went once in two years.

"Protection from heart disease and stroke was more pronounced in participants who got tooth scaling at least once a year," said Dr. Emily (Zu-Yin) Chen, a cardiology fellow at the Veterans General Hospital in Taipei in a news release from the American Heart Association. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Crucial vitamin D discovery: deficiency alters lung growth, harms lung function

Think you've heard everything about vitamin D? As NaturalNews has reported extensively, deficiencies of this amazing health-protective vitamin have been linked to conditions as diverse as breast cancer, hives, weak bones, obesity and more. But now there's yet another discovery showing how important it is to get enough vitamin D through diet, supplements and adequate sunshine exposure. It turns out that vitamin D is crucial to healthy breathing.

Results of a groundbreaking study just published online ahead of the print edition of the American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine concludes a vitamin D deficiency alters lung growth and decreases lung function. Earlier studies have associated severity of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in humans to vitamin D deficiency. But the new research shows a lack of the vitamin can specifically alter lung structure and function -- and it is the first hard evidence linking vitamin D deficiency with deficits in lung function and altered lung structure. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification
