This post assumes that you are using Google Feedburner and that you are using the /feed on your Wordpress for RSS Feeds. Feedsmith appears to have been deprecated and if you are using the legacy /rss2 URI for feeds, update your feedburner account to use /feed and disable feedsmith first.

Then follow these easy steps:

Step 1 – Activate Feedburner PingShot

Log into Feedburner
Click on your feed name to go to your “Analyze Feed” tab
Click on the Publicize tab
Click on the “PingShot” on the left hand column
Click on “Activate”

Now your feeds will actively ping instead of passively whenever a new post is published.

Step 2 – Ping your Feed

Click on the “Troubleshootize” tab
Click on the “Pinging Feedburner” link

Type in your blog URL (not the feed URL)
Click “Ping Feedburner”

Step 3 – Sync Your Feed

Back on your “Troubleshootize” Tab
Scroll down toward the bottom and click on “Resync Now”

Step 4 – Write and Publish a New Post

Following all of the above steps I was able to fix the Feedburner Feed on all 7 of my blogs where the feed was broken, Step 1 is the most important, but Step 2 and Step 3 can sometimes fix your feed without having to publish a new post. In one blog case I had to publish a new post to trigger the refresh.

Last Ditch Effort:
If the above doesn’t work then you would be where I was with my personal blog, and I figured it out last night. My WP-SuperCache had my feeds cache stuck from a month ago, this had to do with hardening my Wordpress install and my wp-content/cache and wp-content/wp-cache-config.php files were not able to be written to. I fixed these file permissions and flushed my wp-supercache which fixed and solved the final issue with my personal blog feed.

Hope this helps my follow bloggers who have problems with Google Feedburner not updating their Wordpress Feed.

With SponsoredTweets you have complete control over what you want to promote and advertise, you will never have ads injected into your tweets without consent. So you don’t have to worry about promoting something you don’t want to. It works like this:

Advertisers see a listing of all registered users for the respective category they are looking for, if they want to hire your twitter account you will receive an offer from them. This offer is based on the popularity and success of your twitter profile, but you can make some money even if you have less than five hundred followers.

Anyone can sign up, but for your account to qualify for sponsoredtweets it must be at least four months old (created 4 months ago) and you must have at least two hundred followers. Generally you will let SponsoredTweets set the value of your tweets, but if you want more advertiser offers I would set it a little lower than the suggested price. If you set your price per tweet too high you won’t likely see any advertiser purchases.

SponsoredTweets has you disclose each tweet with a choice of words like “Sponsored, #ad, brought to you by” among many more. This means all tweets comply with FTC regulations requiring disclosure of advertisements. When your account reaches a $50 balance you can cash out and withdraw funds into your Paypal account, some people can reach this with a handful of tweets, others take a little longer depending on your price per tweet.

Because you choose each advertisement you never worry about sending out messages without your knowledge or consent, also with advertising being more and more acceptable in virtually every medium from Blogging to Social Media, you generally don’t have to worry about losing followers or hurting your twitter reputation, because you won’t be doing it constantly and you will only be promoting companies you approved which means likely you thought at least somewhat favorably in the first place since you accepted them.

All you have to do is download and install the wordpress plugin, activate it and voila!

You have a module on your dashboard showing your scheduled posts and dates, this makes it easier than having to click on “Edit Posts” and Scheduled and shows you at a quick glance how many posts you have queued.

So you can just click on your search bar and type:
regedit.exe

and your registry editor will open,

Or type iTunes and it will show you all programs, files and folders that match or are associated with that “name”.

It is also lightning fast at showing results matching what you are looking for.

For October 2009 my total blog related earnings were $284.98, with again the largest portion coming from SocialSpark which is one of the best blogging programs on the web.

I did make $14 from SponsoredTweets and $2.31 from AssociatedContent which isn’t technically related to blogging but is related to advertising in online writing and social media.  This month I had an advertiser purchase an ad slot and a post directly from me which helped my earnings for the month.  Overall October 2009 was just over 1/2 my earnings for September 2009 which shows you how unreliable and unpredictable earning through blogging can be.  My AdSense meanwhile was over $30 again for the 2nd month which is showing that each month my AdSense seems to grow from the previous month.

So SocialSpark, PayU2Blog and SponsoredReviews were my best online programs this month. Let me know how my fellow bloggers did for October 2009 and what programs worked best for you.

Twittley 2.0 is about to be released soon and only a handful of bloggers received an early version of the 2.0, included is most notable the new button styles which are much nicer and streamlined, see for yourself:

In addition they have several bug fixes so the Twittley button gracefully handles “special” characters that exist in the blog title and name, often when using dashes in the blog name or some characters like colons, it would cause the previous Twittley version to display a SQL database error instead of allowing you to retweet.

I for one am impressed and I do leave both buttons on my site, because some readers still prefer to use TweetMeme, so I give the option for either. Once Twittley becomes a little more widespread I probably will exclusively use Twittley in the future.

The tool isn’t perfect however and it only allows you to draw freehand lines, I can’t draw steady with a mouse and have horrible handwriting especially when trying to draw letters on screen. Therefore I wish the snipping tool had these extra features:

• Shape drawing (circles, squares, ellipticals…etc)
• Straight lines (so you don’t have to free draw straight lines)
• Basic text functionality (So you can at least type words)

Like I said, you can save the image and load it into a paint program, but it would save time if the snipping tool were just enhanced to do these additional things and it would save time.

Once Upon a Time in Texas is all about Hiro trying to save the love of his life Charlie, it is part of his quest to right the wrongs of his past and his goal is a romantic and noble one.  We see Hiro arrive in Texas and recap his story to a boy after stealing some clothes from the boy’s yard.  Then the story gets interesting as Hiro bumps into Sylar very shortly after, meanwhile Samuel learns of Hiro’s plans and asks his dying friend to teleport him in the past.

The plot twists and time line of the show was in serious jeopardy, and if Hiro made one mistake or altered one key event, the entire last few Seasons of the show wouldn’t have happened.  I thought the writers were unbelievably crafty in how they handled this episode.  By having Hiro convince younger Hiro to go back in time to meet Charlie and fall in love, to Hiro freezing time just before Sylar opens Charlies head to steal her ability.

Samuel meanwhile arrives in the same diner three years prior to warn Hiro about making changes and kind of watches and oversees Hiro trying to alter the past and save Charlies life.

We learn that Noah had a near affair with a coworker only to break it off, and Lauren was distraught enough to have the Haitian wipe her memory. Was she introduced as maybe she might be joining the show as Noah’s partner again later? Was she someone with abilities or a normal agent of The Company?

The fact that Hiro removes Sylar only to see Charlie dying of her brain aneurysm and make the decision to strike a deal with the devil to save her. I was unsure how Sylar had the ability to precisely use his “severing” ability to surgically cut out the aneurysm from Charlie’s brain without causing serious harm. It seemed to precise of that ability use for his then underdeveloped abilities, but for the sake of the show it was very interesting.

In the future Sylar wouldn’t have been bested by Hiro, but a Sylar three years earlier with fewer abilities and less powers and understanding was no match for Hiro’s ability to freeze time and thwart him, he also manages to give very vague and little information to Sylar and in fact, Hiro himself doesn’t know that Sylar is still alive in the future, so he genuinely believed when he told Sylar that heroes joined forces to defeat him.

Charlie and Hiro were about to embark on a happy life when Samuel throws a wrench into the works and asks his dying friend to trap Charlie somewhere in time. Only Samuel knows where she is and Hiro is required to work for Samuel in fixing his past before he is willing to tell Hiro how to rescue her.

In a glimpse of eight weeks earlier we see something about Samuel’s mistake has caused or is related to the death of Mohinder, so presumably fixing the past may be in preventing Mohinders death.

This episode was extremely entertaining, and I was hooked watching and trying to predict how Hiro would outwit Sylar and still manage to save Charlie from dying. The fact that Samuel shows both desperation, remorse and conviction for his actions reveals even more about his character which appears to be a dark shade of gray when it comes to morals and ethics.

What did my readers think of the episode? TV.com rates this as the highest rated Heroes episode of the Season so far.

I heard about LinkFromBlog from Shemah and thought I would sign up and give the service a try. LinkFromBlog initially differs from other blogs because instead of adding a tracking code the encourage you to write a single post with a visible badge to “activate your blog” this is to track how many hits and true traffic your website generates to individual posts rather to a homepage alone.

They are also doing this to help promote their company and by having bloggers mention and write posts about them, it gives them free advertising for everyone who signs up. This is not a bad thing, bloggers should declare which and if they use any blogging programs for transparency in my opinion. But LinkFromBlog gives you the ability to use their invisible tracking image so nobody has to know about it as well.

Since this is my activation post for the company I haven’t even signed in yet to see what its all about, so stay tuned and I will let bloggers know if this service works for me.
