Vegas tourists sitting hopefully in front of slot machines, empty bucket in hand, ready to receive a shower of coins raining down to the sound of electronic applause, is an established, popular cliché. And it is a fact, that most of the money casinos make, comes from slot machines not from any other game of chance, such as Roulette or Craps.

The original slot machine, called 'Liberty Bell' was invented by Charles Fey of California, made its first appearance in the late 19th century. Named after one of its symbols, it

Other symbols were horseshoes, diamonds, spades, and hearts.

The slot machine was an enormous success and spawned many imitations, including one which gave out chewing gums, with the flavors being the symbols on the reels, so, as you may have already realized, that’s the origin of the fruits symbols on slot machine reels.
At other times an award was given depending on the location, such as free cigars in a cigar shop or a free drink in a bar.

Slot machines are also commonly referred to as 'one-armed bandits', for having a lever (the ‘arm’) and a propensity to drain a person's wallet.

Although levers are no longer necessary with today’s technology, having been replaced with buttons, you’ll still find plenty of ‘bandits’ in casinos. You know… for nostalgia's sake.

And slot machines do inspire a lot of nostalgia.
The late Bob Levy was considered a world–class expert on slot machines. In September, his private collection was sold in at grand two-day auction event, with the top-selling machine - a Superior Horse-Race which awarded gold medals and sweets (isn't that cute?) and which was originally estimated at $20,000 - $25,000 - eventually reaching up to $36,000.
The total money made was $1.8 million.

Texas Hold'em Springs

Have you ever had the pleasure of watching the Steve McQueen classic 'The Cincinnati Kid' (1965) or the brilliant The Sting' (1973)? What about 'California Split (1974) or 'Honeymoon in Vegas' (1992)?

All those films are famous for their poker scenes. And none of them include Texas Hold’em.

It's the cult film 'Rounders' (1998), that as well as popularizing Texas Hold’em by being the first movie to feature it as the main game played, is, perhaps not incidentally, also regarded as the catalyst to the huge rise in popularity of poker in general since the turn of the century ( although some say it's the other way around ).

The game was invented, as its name suggests, in the town of Robstown of Texas in the early 20^th century (called simply ‘Hold’em’), but it took nearly a century until it became the most played form of poker.

First introduced in Las Vegas by a group of Texan gamblers in 1967, it started to get wider attention in the US since the 1980's.

With the introduction of over-the-shoulder camera views on TV tournaments and the advent of the internet and online gaming, poker gained enormous popularity.
With both simplicity and the ability to better strategize your game, Texas Hold’em soon became the most popular and most played variant of poker.

The 2003 victory in the World Series of Poker by Chris Moneymaker, an amateur, on-line player up until then, also greatly increased interest, with the idea that anyone can win if they try hard enough.

In the world of on-line gaming, the game is currently largely dominated by Zynga's Texas Hold’em application, which went from 10 million monthly users over two-and-half years ago to 30 million today.

Sea Battle Live as you may all know is based on the good old classic Battleship game.

There's a reason why the game has been played for over a 100 years now!
It is, quite simply, highly enjoyable and addictive. A simple hit or miss dialogue.
Also, the game can be played anywhere with simple means, just paper and pencil. The “Pleasure – Investment” ratio, if you will, is just what makes a game a classic.

Let’s admit it. No one can control the childish triumphant grin when you suspect that you’ve just detected your rival’s aircraft carrier. Doesn’t matter if it’s a piece of paper you tear from your math notebook, a board game or PC.
