I have been fed up with my bathroom scales for a long time. So much so that I gave up using them to weigh myself. My weight seemed to vary randomly and not by small amounts. I could get on them and be one weight, get off them, step back on and be a stone heavier. I have had no idea what weight I am for a long time, I just have been happy that my clothes fit.

I was delighted when Ozeri send me their Ozeri Precision II Bathroom Scale to try out as it meant I might find out my weight. I have previously tried their kitchen scales and I was really pleased with them. I was hoping the bathroom scales would be just as good.

The scales take four AAA batteries that are provided. They are easy enough to insert, you just flip the back off the battery container and push them in. The battery container is on the underside of the scale so it is not visible.

The scales look stylish and elegant with a glass and silver look. They are not too bulky either which is great as they do not take up much space on the bathroom floor. They are easy to stand on though, just the right size to put your feet on without feeling wobbly.

The scales come on immediately when you stand on them. It is really easy to see your weight as well. The numbers are nice and large meaning I can read them easily, even without my glasses. I like the blue back lighting it gives it a modern feel. The scales automatically turn off when they are not being used so it saves the battery.

You can choose to weigh yourself in kg, lb or stone. It is easy to change the setting, there is a little button on the underside of the scales which you press.

The scales will weigh up to 440 pounds (200 kilograms) in 0.2lb or 0.1kg increments. They use four 4 high precision GX sensors to give an accurate measurement.

I always choose stone as I find the others confusing. The first time you use the scales they show a C to show they are being calibrated. After this they just work every time you stand on them. I was really happy with these scales, more so since I found I had not put on loads of weight. Orzeri products can be purchased on Amazon. These scales are RRP £29.95 but at the moment they are £17.95

Disclosure: I was sent some Ozeri Bathroom scales in order to do an honest review. I was not told what to write and my opinions are my own.

I love entering competitions, it is a fun hobby and results in some lovely surprises. Last year I had a really big surprise, I won a competition that Bathrooms.com were running on twitter and had £1000 to spend on their site. I was thrilled as my bathroom really needed a makeover.

These are the before pictures of my bathroom.

The toilet seat was mismatched and would not stand up properly. It also did not flush properly, there was a technique to getting it to work which would confuse visitors. I also had no storage space at all. I got some shelves to go under the sink but they looked unsightly and all my bottles got dusty.

The shower was adequate, but my son had managed to break the catch that held the shower head on so you couldn’t move it up and down. It really was time for a makeover.

I was really excited but had absolutely no idea how to sort out what I wanted for a new bathroom. I sat down with a pen and paper and drew a floor plan. I did a lot of measuring then armed with the measurements decided what I wanted. I had some ideas in mind, I wanted a cupboard for storage.. Bathrooms.com were very helpful and didn’t mind at all that I took ages to make my choice. They even checked my order and added some bits I needed like plugs for the sink. Once everything was finalised the order arrived very swiftly and I put the boxes safely into the garage. This week I finally got round to getting everything installed. It was quite a bit of disruption but I am very pleased with the result.

These are the after pictures. Bear in mind I still need to replace the flooring, get some wood to box in the pipes and do some tiling around the toilet.

The toilet is smaller so I have more space. It is so nice to have a toilet that works properly.

As you can see I now have a storage unit under the sink, the clutter is gone and it looks really smart. I changed the tiling around the bath, it now has some black tiles to make it more of a feature.

As for the shower, I now have a power shower and its fabulous. My son was amazed, he said it was the cleanest he has ever been after using it.

The shower screen is plain now as well which actually makes the room look brighter. I am so pleased with my new bathroom and once I do the final touches it will look brilliant. What do you think of my new look bathroom? Thank you Bathrooms.com for an amazing prize.

Do you make time to play with your children? Maybe you should, it has been shown that play activities actually help children learn. It should be no surprise really, the best way to learn something is by actually doing it. I didn’t learn to make cakes by reading about how to make them, I learnt by actually making them. I had to learn how to measure the ingredients, mix everything together, set the oven to the right temperature and know when it was cooked. When you are used to doing it you don’t realise that these are all skills you have learnt by practise.

By allowing your children playtime you are helping them to learn valuable skills. Playing with a box of lego is developing dexterity and problem solving skills, cutting out paper shapes helps fine motor skills, playing with a football enhances gross motor skils, building a tower out of bricks develops problems solving abilities and helps with concentration span. Most importantly playing with other children helps to develop social skills, something that will be important when they get older. When I was little we used to play outside all the time with the other children on the street. These days children seem to stay indoors more and not socialise so any chance to play is a good thing.

Why not make some time and play with your child?

I make time 2 play by:

setting some time aside to do baking together at the weekend

going on a great adventure to the park together

taking the dog on long walks and seeing what we can find on the way

getting out the board games and seeing who wins

creating a marvellous machine out of meccano

creating a treasure hunt with lots of clues

What do you do with your child? There are loads of ideas on the Make Time 2 Play website

A little while ago Cheryl from Madhouse Family Reviews was running a recipe competition. The idea was that you you needed to use the new Amoy Special Selection Soy Sauce to create a recipe. I quickly added an idea to her blog as the first five bloggers to comment received a bottle of the soy sauce. When my bottle of soy sauce arrived I decided I had to use it to create another recipe. My original idea was to marinate chicken breasts in a honey and soy sauce marinade and then grilling them.

Halfway though I decided to chop them into pieces and make more of a stir fry type dish with them. My thinking was that I would like the marinade to cover more of the chicken. It turned out I could have just cooked the chicken breasts without chopping them as the flavour worked really well. I served it with rice but if you grilled the chicken breasts it would be nice served with new potatoes and green beans. If the chicken breasts were left whole it would also work very nicely on a barbecue.

Honey and Soy Sauce Chicken

Ingredients

3 chicken breasts

1 red onion

1 red pepper

4 mushrooms

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon lime juice

1 tablespoon lemon juice

3 tablespoons runny honey

Method

Mix the lime juice, lemon juice, soy sauce and runny honey together in a shallow dish.

Place the chicken breasts in the mixture and leave to marinade for at least four hours, but preferably overnight.

Chop the onion, mushrooms and pepper and the chicken into pieces.

Heat some oil in a pan and stir fry the chicken. When nearly done add the onions, mushrooms and pepper with the remaining marinade sauce and cook for a few minutes until it is cooked though.

Serve with rice or noodles.

The result was very nice and my son remarked it was delicious. I will definitely be trying this again.

Recently I received some quite exciting news, I was picked to be part of Slumberdown’s Panel of Mums. This means I will get to try out some of Slumberdown’s products and let you know what I think of them. I am really looking forward to taking on the challenge.

A good nights sleep is very important to me. If I do not get enough sleep I am grumpy the next day and find it hard to function. By mid afternoon I find my eyes getting heavy and it is really difficult to concentrate. With a good sleep I am ready to tackle anything. Recently one of the things that has been stopping me get to sleep is that I have been suffering with a really sore neck. I work on a computer all day at work and find this can cause the muscles in my neck to tense up. When I try to sleep I find it really difficult to get comfortable and have often woken up with my neck feeling worse than it did before. I was sent some Slumberdown Orthopaedic Pillows to try out and see if it would help.

Slumberdown orthopaedic pillows are designed to keep the head and neck supported, especially if you sleep on your side. They aim to align the spine perfectly whilst you sleep. The Slumberdown orthopaedic pillows contain a central core which is wrapped in soft Hollowfibre to provide cushioning and support whilst you sleep. The pillows are machine washable as well which is a big plus.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the packet was how big the pillow is. It is really fat and I had to really push it into the pillowcase.

It really makes my normal pillow look sad and squashed in comparison, it really is about twice the thickness.

I was a bit unsure about how well I would be able to sleep on a pillow this thick, but I was in for a lovely surprise. The pillow is incredibly comfortable. My head sunk into the cushioning but it was not too soft. It held my head in a really supportive way. I found the pillow comfortable when sleeping on my back and on my side and it was also perfect for sitting up reading in bed.

After using the pillows for around a week I have found that my neck has stopped aching. I haven’t changed anything else so it must be down to these pillows doing something clever. I am very happy with them and wouldn’t change back to my old pillows now.

You can find Slumberdown Orthopaedic Pillows in Morrisons RRP £10 for a pair.

Disclosure: I was sent some Slumberdown Orthopaedic pillows to try in order to do an honest review.
