I am aware I have been gone for about a month. However, about once a year I end up traveling all over the place, purely coincidentally, to go see friends. This year, it just happened to start in August and end last weekend, starting with a weekend in Mississippi (with my boyfriend...yep, not a mistype, I got me one of those now), a party weekend in Atlanta (newly-relocated Pleasanton friend), my 29th birthday extravaganza in Toronto (high school friends), a nutty 30th birthday party in Savannah (college friends), ANOTHER weekend in Mississippi and now finally I've been home all weekend. NUTS. And I'm broke. And I keep poking at my liver to see if its still responsive (not sure about that one). Because of all that traveling there was a lot of driving involved which meant a lot of face time with my beloved Sirius. A year ago I made a very important decision to completely change everything and move 2,452 miles across the country from California to Georgia for a chance at a better life. A year later I've discovered I'm happier, financially stable(r) and more independent than I've been in a really long time. But I've also learned after a lot of time spent by myself and building a new life from scratch that you get one life. ONE. So it's time to take risks, leave the douchebags in the rearview (and there have been three of them this past year - amazing I still attract them on a different side of the country) and grab life by the balls. So. What are you waiting for?

I am suffering a hangover after one of my friends Laura descended on Atlanta and I haven't seen her in two years. Reel Big Fish - Sell Out

So instead of saving my money like a good girl this weekend, I ended up purchasing a buttload of concert tickets to Kings Of Leon/The Black Keys in September, LCD Soundsystem/Sleigh Bells in October, Anberlin/Crash Kings in November AND I'll be seeing Arcade Fire/Spoon this Wednesday. It's melt-your-face-off music time :D Combine that with the fact that I'm heading up to Toronto for a "work/drink until my liver forgets what part of the body it's supposed to be in" long weekend in three and a half weeks (and counting) to celebrate my impending 29th birthday (with friends that are entirely too much of a bad influence) and the Fall/Winter season is shaping up to look like one of my favorites.

Domain name now firmly my own for another year, new album cover for your ipod and a renewed faith in music. Welcome [back] to Dramatic Annie: funky grooves for you to drive in rush-hour traffic with, dance around your apartment/house like a moron with, the soundtrack to make bad decisions with...

It's been a busy couple of months of wedding-attending (e.g. dancing in front of 300 guests with my boy Jeff and NO ONE else on the dance floor), celebrating close friends big birthdays, traveling and concert-going. Arcade Fire is up next in Atlanta in August and I...can't...wait...I'm still in the process of finding myself a good host server so I can go back to streaming music on my site but for the next little bit we have Mediafire (for direct download) to keep you occupied. All of the song's picked for this week's "All In A Week's Work" (and god, does it feel good to type that phrase again) were painstakingly pulled from the constant listening of Sirius Satellite radio and my daily trowling of blogs. And each of them makes me smile whether it be the big beats or the fabulous music.

Case in point, make the first song you download from this week's selection be Anberlin's "Impossible." Well, my mother knows how to party...we went to go see The Temper Trap at The Loft on Friday and though the opening band sucked (and the crowd was filled with a bunch of REALLY tall frat boys who forgot that my 5'4" self couldn't see through them), they had an AWESOME tambourine player who gave it all he got. Then, on Saturday it was After Midnight Project at The Masquerade, swiftly followed by the secret Airborne Toxic Event show at The Loft (with a party that was sponsored by Jack Daniels - HOLLA!!!). Seven hours of screaming my lungs out, getting multiple stamps on my arm, and just generally having a good time and now? No more concerts for a while. Me sad...here are some of the videos taken:

So, still recovering, hearing's shot and that's why I didn't post yesterday. Just signed a lease to my new apartment that I'll be moving into Memorial Day weekend and I'm taking those first steps back to being a normal grown-up again (and debt-free. effing fantastic ;) ). Last night I went to The Masquerade in the dodgiest part of ATL and discovered a pretty damn cool venue - 3 levels (Heaven, Purgatory and Hell) and the fact that the venue was about the size of a postage stamp... The ceiling almost caved in due to the jumping of the crowd upstairs and The Big Pink were actually pretty cool. However, the opening band, A Place to Bury Strangers, sizzucked and I couldn't say anything to my mum as the lead singer's parents were right next to us. Damn. All my snarkiness will be caged for a later date. Funnily enough though there was one dude who REALLY liked them:

This began a week of concerts for me as I will be going to see Temper Trap at The Loft on Friday and After Midnight Project and Story Of The Year back at The Masquerade on Saturday night. I'm planning on asking the lead singer of AMP to marry me which is entirely feasible seeing as I can get right up to the stage. Or at least sing one of their songs with him. Both could happen. I'll keep you posted.

Exactly two years ago the seeds of this blog were formed when I went through a particularly bad break-up. March 28th has not been my lucky day for a while and has included a broken heart and a broken backseat window in my car. Today? Nothing happened, which makes me happy...and makes me realize that you can get over mostly anything when it comes to a particular someone. One day you just wake up and realize you haven't thought about that person in months and in turn would like to have the opportunity to take down the wall you've built up brick by brick so that you can actually give yourself over to someone again. And through all this the music was the thing that made me feel better, that carried me through rough times, very drunk times, long road trips, and late night talks. For now the unknown's out there. But me? I'll do just fine...

...and just naturally progressed. Silversun Pickups apparently didn't go on at 8 like the ticket said and so we only caught the last three songs which was fine by me. I saw them at Coachella last year and I'm not sure that any other venue will beat that for me. Anyway, the build up for Muse's opening (incidentally with "Uprising") was epic, complete with backdrops, atmospheric music, and mobile plinths for each band member (and the lone piano player who never got a spotlight on him - poor dude). Well, see for yourself:

All in all it was a fabulous show (minus the glaring omission of "Butterflies and Hurricanes") but what can you do? Ben Folds in two weeks time and believe me, that's a fun night filled with crowd participation and giggling. Excited to see him again. In the meantime, 18 more days until SXSW and I'll be listening to The Heavy's "How You Like Me Now?" on repeat for the next week...

25 days left to go until SXSW. Not that I'm counting or anything...

Big show coming up this week - Muse and Silversun Pickups at Gwinnett Arena which I'm beyond excited for. I'm just hoping that Muse plays more of their back catalog because, let's face it, their newest album sucks big donkey dick. There I said it. And I feel better for it.

As for this week's offering, I happen to think that "Black Cab Sessions" are AWESOME!!! Aaaaaaaaand I just tested it and I only have permission to post the Bon Iver. My recommendations? The Cool Kids and VV Brown ones (incidentally they've both just been added to the SXSW lineup. Who's a happy camper? ME! Girl over here! HEY!). Go to Black Cab Sessions and check em out!

In four weeks and four days I will be descending on Austin, TX for my very first SXSW and I am beyond excited (for several reasons, some of which cannot be disclosed on this here blog...yet ;) ). The line-up is absolutely crazy and it'll be a three day extravaganza for me to try and see as many bands as humanly possible while imbibing alcohol - heels may be banned. I'm desperately hoping that the bands I really want to see will wait until Thursday, Friday and Saturday to play instead of Wednesday night (the night I won't be there) but a girl can only hope. Awesome in so many ways. Apparently 800 people were taught this in an hour and were placed throughout the crowd to quickly teach the others around them. Now if this could happen to me in real life I would be giddy :)

I am sitting here drinking that aforementioned drink and listening to She Wants Revenge "All Wound Up" ("because I'm all wound up and I like to ball...") - sucky day turned into a good night. Last time I had this drink (or should I say 1/2 a bottle of Crown in one night) was February 17th, 2009. My body crapped out, my hands lost their feeling and one of my oldest friend's both laughed at me and force-fed me orange Gatorade. This time around I just feel....effing fabulous. All I apparently need is my Ma to offer me a big girl drink and it changes everything ;)

This work malarkey is slowly killing me. I may have been lazy, or not cared in past jobs but this time around I do. A hell of a lot. And I love what I do. It's that whole pesky lack of sleep/stress combo that is knocking me into the ground and I need to man up. Mmmmm whisky....

Songs I've been listening to lately? Kinda the main point of this blog right? I've delved into the back catalog, hitting things up as random as Slipknot, Basement Jaxx, Justin Timberlake, Massive Attack and Twista. Speaking of, his verse on Ludacris' new single "How Low?" Back from my very first RV tradeshow (never thought I'd type those words ever...) and it kicked my ass.

I have consequently slept over 26 hours this weekend and listened to music (as well as introduce Jiggy to the wonder that is "Labyrinth." How someone can get to the age of 20 and never understand the magic that is David Bowie in tights and yell "LUDOOOOOOOOOOO!" is beyond me...) and tried to find new stuff seeing as I have been a SLACKER since the year started with this blog. I have also not been able to get Tribe's "Hot Sex" and Adele's "Make You Feel My Love" out of my head but that's another story entirely...and just to give you an idea of the guys I was working with here's visual representation:

All In A Week's Work 01/10/10 - Throwback Edition

An otherwise quiet weekend was injected with a bit of fun by me setting my hair on fire this morning with the propane lamps outside. I'd watched my dad turn them on a bunch of times, tried to figure it out, hit the gas button, lit the barbeque lighter and then it backfired...a huge flame came out of the lamp, lit my hair and wrecked the lower two inches of all of it, not to mention some of the hair on the top of my head. I've been followed by the smell of burned hair all day.

Now that you're done laughing at me I also happened to notice my brother playing "Fallout 3" yesterday because of the soundtrack that was blaring out of his TV. An alternate universe in which nuclear fallout has created messed up enemies you're supposed to shoot at, the hits of the day consisted of 1930s/1940s music that has been stuck in mine and my brother's head all weekend, leading us to break out into lines of "I don't want to set the world on fiiiiiiiiiire" at inopportune times. And so I ask you to join me in my pain because believe me, once you listen to this song it will NOT get out of your head...(I've also thrown some other goodies that appear within the game and songs that I just plain old love :D)

Dramatic Annie's Top 20 - 2009 Edition

With six hours left to go of this wretched year I've finally narrowed my Top 20 songs that have been posted on Dramatic Annie this past year. This year wasn't one of my greatest having been unemployed from February to December. So, a 2,500 mile relocation, a new job and a smile on my face. 2009 started off shitty and ended pretty damn well and along the way this music made me smile my BIG smile. So, here ya go. Here's to 2010 being kick-ass ;)

In no particular order:

1. The Ting Tings - Great DJ
AWESOME song and actually the best one that The Ting Tings performed at Day One of Coachella this year. When it gets played on Alt-Nation, my Ma and me still dance around the kitchen like idiots :D

2. White Rabbits - Percussion Gun
Excellent drum beat, I heard this song at the beginning of the year and haven't gotten sick of it since. That's a BIG deal coming from the girl who plays an album obsessively for seven days and then gets sick of it...

3. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll
Yes the remixes that came out for this song were good but the original still holds up. And since my brother put in his own lyrics for the chorus ("Casseroooole, on the floor") I haven't been able to listen to it the same way since.

4. MuteMath - Clipping
These concert tickets were bought for me even before I stepped foot in Atlanta, but when I finally saw them I found a new concert venue to love (The Tabernacle) and a new band to be impressed with. They're AMAZING live and if you have the chance, go see them.

5. After Midnight Project - Take Me Home
This is an epic song (in my humble opinion) and kicked off my life in Atlanta. They will be forever associated with that fateful weekend in Columbus, GA :) These guys are going to be big in 2010 (or at least I hope they'll be big enough to finally make it to the East Coast!).

6. The Lonely Island - I'm On A Boat (Ft. T-Pain)
OK, I know this was played out but the thinking behind this was so clever and catapulted SNL back into a mainstream that hadn't cared about it for years. Yay for Andy Samberg and kudos to T-Pain for being able to make fun of himself.

7. Flight of The Conchords - Hurt Feelings
Following with the comedy album vein, Flight of The Conchords still continue to make me giggle and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a third season. Or more use of a toy piano.

8. Safetysuit - Annie
A late entry (in fact I posted this last AIAWW) but this entire album is effing fabulous. Go out and get it and TURN IT UP LOUD.

9. She Wants Revenge - All Wound Up
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. How are they not huge? Why is there not an album out? Who's the chick on the mp3 cover?! I don't know but I want more!!!!

10. Gossip - Heavy Cross (Burns Remix)
The year of Gossip, they were EVERYWHERE and several choice remixes came out but this one won. Beth's voice is just plain rad.

11. MMM - The Way You Got Me That Feeling (James Brown vs. Michael Jackson)
2009 - The year that Michael Jackson died. And even if you thought he was a freak it made EVERYONE go to his back catalog and start stocking up on those old albums like crazy. This is by far one of the best remixes that emerged and makes me miss the "Bad" album :)

12. Pink - So What
It's a bit of fluff but Pink proved she was a bad ass with this song that has been proven to get stuck in someone's head for days at a time (OK, just mine but whatever...). And the girl said she wouldn't film a video for it unless her estranged husband appeared in it too? Ballsy seeing as it's basically a massive diatribe against him. And now they're back together...huh?!

13. Keri Hilson - Knock You Down (Ft. Ne-You and Kanye West)
Before you knock it just listen to the line, "I used to be commander of my pimp ship flying high" and then get back to me. Bubblegum pop gold my friends.

14. Rusko - Jahova
I haven't been able to blow the speakers in my car yet but that isn't for want of trying with this song. God, when this kicks in? Religious experience. Rusko (an English dubstep DJ) just moved to the States this year so I'm hoping he'll tour more. Go see him if you'd like to have your heart stop momentarily.

15. Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone
She's amazing. I love her despite suffering through the 12 year old girls screaming at her shows. This was the song I listened to after driving out of San Francisco for the last time and missing Chris (aka Ideal Man) so much my heart hurt. Hardcore.

16. Q-Tip - Move
As long as he keeps releasing albums like "The Renaissance" (one of the few good hip-hop albums released this year) I will keep listening to him. Now as long as his live set doesn't become as self-indulgent as the last time I saw him then I'll be a happy camper...

17. TI - Dead and Gone (Ft. Justin Timberlake)
The man spent the majority of the year in jail and still had one of the best-selling albums of 2009. Yay for him because if his future shit is anything like this I'll be buying the next one too.

18. Phantogram - When I'm Small
Contenders for Portishead's crown and their album isn't even out stateside yet. Magic.

19. Luck One and Dekk - The Coolax
They're from Oregon, they don't have an album yet and this EP was released for free download throughout the internets. Perfect night-time driving music.

20. Volcano Choir - Still
I purposefully left this one till last because it's quite possibly my favorite find of the entire year. It made my eyes water on first listen and no, I don't care that I'm a big baby and YOU can go suck it up. But seriously, wrenches your heart out, stomps on it and then says, "Now. Listen to me again please." And that's exactly what every great song should do to you.

So I completed my first full work week and it knocked...me...out...so this is going to be a very short AIAAW (I'm gearing up for my Top 20 for next week so that's taking a LOT of time).

Here's what we've got:
