Busy weekend but SO much fun :) I went to the MuteMath show on Friday night after listening to the CD all week thinking, "Hey, this'll be good" but I was completely blown away; the drummer Darren King is my new hero...which leads me to this week's "AIAWW." Instead of the standard fare of new and random music, I've decided to do a collection of songs that have made me a) almost dislodge my steering wheel in the past and b) lose the feeling in my hands from smacking against said steering wheel (totally safe while driving)... So, here's the list. MuteMath videos from Friday's show after the jump :)

Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight
The Hush Sound - Medicine Man
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Good Charlotte - Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous
Blue Man Group - I Feel Love
Foo Fighters - My Hero
Foo Fighters - In Your Honor
Muse - Assassin
Silverchair - Freak
Metallica - Fuel
U2 - Mofo
U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name
311 - Applied Science (Live)
The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Tripping Daisy - Trip Along
Tool - Hooker With A Penis
Tool - Aenima

MuteMath videos - Live at The Tabernacle, ATL (11/06/09):

This was seriously insane. XMU plays the bands that don't get the recognition they deserve but eventually the masses will catch on...about six months down the road. So, when I came home today The Knife's "We Share Our Mothers' Health" was banging through the kitchen and it reminded me of this remix. Epic. Makes me miss my dancing days like no other where it was entirely acceptable to wear baggy pants and get all excited over glow sticks (I still do - oooo shiny!)...and that break?! OH..MY...GOD....any DJ who wants a lesson in a build-up should listen to minutes 4:32-5:55. Trentemoller's a god. OK, maybe that's a little much but I'm currently on my 8th time replaying it....
The Knife - We Share Our Mothers' Health (Trentmoller Mix)
The Knife - Heartbeats

No, I didn't dress up. Yes, I did get drunk, thanks for asking. Did I almost fall in the bushes outside my house after getting back from the bar? Why yes, I did - how'd you know that?! And finally, yes Dum-dums do taste nasty with Corona. See Exhibit A:<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Zmqc8Ix-9IM/Su5YpCniQTI/AAAAAAAABSk/7QwHgkbcdU0/s320/CIMG1353.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5399350465364377906" />OK, enough ridiculousness and onto the music. I am VERY excited to go see MuteMath this Friday at The Tabernacle in Atlanta. Me Ma's been all about this band for a while and it wasn't until two nights ago that I listened to their album. Silly Annie, should've done that a while ago! "Clipping" is this week's "WINNER WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER" for a VERY good reason...
MuteMath - Clipping
MuteMath - Burden

And on a completely different note...wrap me up and hide me in this beat (0:00-0:21 and 2:01-2:29 preferably) with a pair of bass-heavy super-sized headphones under a huge duvet somewhere...
The Cool Kids - Black Mags (The Widdler Remix)
The Widdler - Froggy Style

Now I don't understand the hype about Drake (aka Jimmy, the wheelchair-bound kid from Degrassi) BUT this remix is cute and I'm sure I'll only get sick of it sometime in the next hour or so...
Drake - Best I Ever Had (Matamatics Remix)

Recognize this song? That's because The Source did it a million and one years ago but it's getting a lot of play on Sirius' XMU for good reason. This girl's good.
Florence and The Machine - You've Got The Love (The XX Remix)

A little bit of nostalgia:
OK Go - A Million Ways

And finally, tried to upload this song but for some reason my FTP site wouldn't let me...to which I replied "Suck It" and found the YouTube audio instead. CAN'T get enough of this song and it's perfect to get your Monday morning kickin. Just add caffeine. And turn it the eff up if you know what's good for you :)

If you don't at least smile there's something wrong with you. Flight Of The Conchords just released their newest album, "I Told You I Was Freaky" and it's awesome in epic proportions. The thing that always amazes me with them is they make me giggle and impress me with their music at the same time. What band does that?!?! BRING IT ON SEASON 3!!!

Flight Of The Conchords - Rambling Through The Avenues Of Time
Flight Of The Conchords - Friends
Flight Of The Conchords - You Don't Have To Be A Prostitute

Um, yes please!
After six, yes, SIX hours of uploading Ampersand pictures onto various social networking fashion sites I have been listening to a shitload of good, loud music. REALLY loud. It's the only thing that's not making me fall asleep. Here's a choice selection from tonight's proceedings...

After Midnight Project - The Criminal
Rise Against - Savior
Fall Out Boy - Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued

Oh eff it. I love Fall Out Boy and English Best Friend will tell you that this song reminds her of me, and me of her...and driving entirely too fast through the Calitho parking lot..."why don't you show me a little bit of spine you've been saving for his mattress..."
Fall Out Boy - Dance Dance

Four weeks ago I moved to Atlanta thinking I'd be bored and apparently that was a stupid notion seeing as I've just spent the past month going out all the time as well as finishing off my part of Ampersand's Winter Collection...video after the jump.

It's been a weird month to be honest. Settling in to a new place, trying to find my way around Atlanta and slowly falling in love with this city. There's something EXTREMELY cool about driving through downtown and seeing the Olympic Torch statue and the tall skyscrapers and knowing that this will become MY city, leaving behind San Francisco, the city I could get around with my eyes closed (which I'm sure would create some car crashes...been known to almost happen as well as you can see here)
behind. And because I'm feeling a little bit melancholy, this week represents my mood. Perfect music that'll slightly break your heart for a cold Monday morning (for those of you with jobs. Interview this week for a pretty big one so I'm hoping I join the masses soon...)...Enjoy!
OK, so while crawling around Audio Muffin, I came across this great video which pretty much set the tone for this week. Apparently there's a whole series of these where bands walk around France playing their stuff. Excellent, because you know I like to inject a little bit of culture into these proceedings:

Bon Iver - For Emma, For Ever Ago - A Take Away Show from La Blogotheque on Vimeo.

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

Fanfarlo - I'm A Pilot
The Cinematic Orchestra - To Find A Home
The Middle East - The Darkest Side
Tegan and Sara - Hell

And just because this song constantly plays on Sirius' Alt-Nation and it's damn good:
Manchester Orchestra - I've Got Friends

In other weird music news I stumbled across this random Swedish band called The Tiny. It's REALLY weird - I'm just putting it out there but as a fan of The Knife and Bjork I like it. Suck it, it's my blog. The thing that got me was when the strings kicked in on "Last Weekend" - just have a listen and see if it does anything to your cold insides:
The Tiny - Last Weekend

The Tiny - Closer

Black Carl, a fabulous new find, is a Phoenix-based band who's "Borrowed" album reflects me perfectly. I've been letting boys distract me and working on the new Winter collection for <a href="http://www.ampersanddesigns.com"_new>Ampersand Designs that debuts on November 1st. So, to make up the fact that I was in Alabama (again) last weekend, here's a little delayed "AIAWW" for you guys...

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!
Phantogram's "Eyelid Movies" album was just released on Amazon as an import (which is RETARDED seeing as they're an American band) but it may just be worth it. Ideal Man, why can't you live over here? They're playing with Vic Chestnutt in Atlanta in a couple of weeks and I have no one to go with :(
Clare & The Reasons - Ooh You Hurt Me So

This song has been all over Sirius' Alt-Nation this week and I seriously can't get enough of it! IHOP, 4 a.m.

This ATL thing is nuts. I went out for a quiet drink last night with Leah and some of her military buddies and it turned into a messy dance sandwich on the dance floor at "The Hole In The Wall" bar (with Kie, my marine from last week showing up), a late night IHOP extravaganza with the table next to us inviting Leah to their kidnapper van, and me finally getting in at 5:30 a.m. Sleeeeeeepy. But I found some EXCELLENT music this week which seems to be icing on the cake...

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER
This song has been playing on Alt Nation ALL week and it's definitely grown on me (I'm not a huge fan of Karen O but I'm trying...). This remix though beats the pants off of the original :)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (Dan Oh Remix)

And just for good measure:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (James Iha Remix)
(Does the James Iha remix remind you of Jamiroquai? Because it sure as hell does for me...)

Flyleaf's new album "Memento Mori" will be out on November 10th. Listen below and find out why they're awesome...
Flyleaf Vs. The Legion Of Doom - I'm So Sick (T-Virus Remix)

Uh. This chick's gonna be big...
Ms. Brown - Wonderland

My love for Fox's "Glee" is no secret. Every week I get bummed when it ends. I tried to find video of this because the performance is impressive as hell but you'll have to make do with the mp3 (or just go check it out on Hulu - Episode 1):
Glee Cast - Rehab

Aaaaaaaaand finally, Donnis' mixtape is currently circulating around the blogosphere as we await his debut EP on Fool's Gold Records. I've had a listen, like it so far and you can download the whole thing by going here: Download Donnis' mixtape, "Diary of An ATL Brave" here
My favorites so far? John McVie's bassline throughout this whole thing is just ridiculously GOOD and Mick Fleetwood makes me want to learn how to play the drums. Just...that...simple. The coolest thing is that Formula 1 racing in England used the kick-in at 3:03 as its theme tune so I can't help thinking of "nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaw" engine sounds pummelling through our house at 7:00 a.m. every Saturday morning when we were kids. And now I'm going off to download "Rumours...."
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain

Kie, darlin, you have a music education in your near future ;)

Last time I saw them I was a fresh-faced 20 year old at Pier 32 in San Francisco and my hearing was still crystal clear (should've worn those earplugs!). Best part of the night? When they played "Josie." I'll forever love it (because I know that everything, everything's gonna be fine :) )

And just for good measure...supersoak that hooooooooooooooooooooo!

That was how I spent my Saturday night and I hadn't even been here a week yet. Leah fell down outside the bar, we picked up some young military men, drinks were imbibed (or chugged. Whichever way you want to look at it) and I'm still suffering today. Let me just say that 100 mile drive back was a little hellish but it was definitely worth it and we'll probably be repeating it in two weeks. So, as I sit here feeling like hell and watching SNL on Hulu (the Deep House Dish sketch was phenomenal!) and the new digital short had me giggling:

In other news, I finally found Wicker's "People Going Crazy" (the beat that was playing while Jason from After Midnight Project was dancing in the gas station in the last post) and have it for your listening pleasure:
Wicker - People Going Crazy

I saw "Whip It" on Saturday afternoon and due to Drew Barrymore's fabulous sense of music, I'm sure that she had a hand in the movie's soundtrack selection (her first movie as director). An excellent choice was used for one of the roller derby competitions that I haven't heard in ages as it reminds me of an ex but Cut Chemist kills it every time:
Cut Chemist - Lesson 6

Epic. Things have finally slowed down a bit here and chances are I'll finally get round to posting more stuff on here this week (I have album reviews of Muse, Frankmusik, and After Midnight Project coming your way) as well as a little deal I have going with Planet LA Records right now and some of their roster. Keep checking...I'm getting better at this again...

Without diving into the infinite rabbit hole of blogs (and not having the time right now), I'm discovering all of this new music and the new find: After Midnight Project. This isn't even a discovery I can take as my own - that belongs to my mum but I'm damn proud of her for it. These guys are from L.A., not nearly as big as they need to be (yet) and are a force of nature with band members that look like they're as much fun as a carnival ride. The anthem that I love at the moment has found my mum and I screaming out the chorus to this song; the one that will forever remind me of giving a much needed jump start to my life (and hence the nostalgia bit):

TURN THIS ONE UP LOUD AS YOUR SPEAKERS WILL LET YOU
After Midnight Project - Take Me Home

See what I mean about fun?

(The music playing in the background? Wicker (lead singer Jason writes beats and produces for this band). They're fabulous and unknown and I want them to come play over here. Now!)

And just to show how effing talented these guys are?

And a bonus song :)
After Midnight Project - Come On Come On

Dancing around the kitchen to loud rock. Thinking of the song you’re going to leave California to. These are all the things that go through my head while thinking of music. This isn’t your typical, “Hey, I like music, it’s great in the background,” this is the stuff that rolls around in my head; the perfect song for the right moment. There’s a difference between music lovers and people who inhabit music, use it as benchmarks for life. I am the latter, thanks in part to a childhood where the stereo was always put on first over the TV, where lyrics were analyzed and drums had to be loud. Where “Clair de Lune” is played every time in an empty room upon moving out day, just to take the time to remember what happened in each of my houses, apartments, dorm rooms. And it’ll be played on Tuesday night when I’m sitting in that empty bedroom I’ve lived in for four years, just me and my headphones. But the right song to leave 11 years of my life behind is a big call. I’m leaving a life I’m comfortable in, where quite a few boys made their way in and out of, many drunken nights, many gut-busting giggles, and tons of music-filled days where I danced around the living room like a maniac (I was not alone in this last one...ok, maybe on a few occasions). So, I’m thinking, ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky” and no, not because of its resurgence due to “Eternal Sunshine” and various commercials, but because it’s one of the earliest songs I remember as a kid, dancing on my dad’s feet, spinning around a room with Chachel, singing at the top of my lungs not worrying about anything. And that’s what Atlanta’s going to do for me: starting new, trying to take the worry out of life and being around my family again. So, without further ado, here’s the song that will begin the next chapter of my life and more smiles:

“Hey you with the pretty face/welcome to the human race.”
ELO - Mr. Blue Sky

I know, I know, I haven't been posting that often lately but between travelling since mid-August and gearing up for this move to Atlanta I've been a little preoccupied. I've shown off California for visiting Dubai-ian friends, gone and met my new little "niece" down in Temecula, attended an epic wedding and spent as much time in San Francisco as I possibly can saying goodbye to the city that gave me my first illegal drink, my education, and possibly the loss of my dignity outside several bars. I've also been packing up my life and realized that I've accumulated a bunch of crap in the process (old Halloween cop uniform anyone?). The majority of it is all in boxes now, just in time for me to go out as much as I can this week (my calendar makes me look like a bloody socialite but that's only because I won't have a life until I make friends in Atlanta and I'm making up for it now) and end the week with my leaving party this Saturday at Sunshine Saloon, my favorite neighborhood bar. 10 p.m. Pleasanton. If you're in the area come by and say your goodbyes as that may be your last chance to do it. As I will be getting over a hangover and simultaneously going to a co-ed baby shower I doubt that I will be posting AIAWW next week but you never know, I could get my act together and my liver could love me, however briefly. In the meantime, here's your long-awaited "AIAWW." Ideal Man, you can stop making me feel guilty now that I've been absent for a while :)

WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER
This week's winner is Health's "Die Slow." Seeing as I haven't been around the internets for a few weeks I'm late with this one but those driving drums are AWESOME!!!
Health - Die Slow

Why, hello Jay-Z and your brand-spanking new album. Pretty much because my fabulous mother got me a $50 gift certificate and it's burning a hole in my pocket but also because, despite some reviews saying that Muse is playing it safe, the album will be still be better than most of the studio albums currently out there. Check out a new track with a killer back beat:
Muse - Undisclosed Desires

Appealing to my poppy, R&B sensibilities, I am unabashedly in love with this song. Yes, I know it's played on the radio constantly but good....lord...
Keri Hilson Ft. Pogo has his own Youtube channel and is highly talented. It's all kind of run in together for me with the same result: I'm moving to Atlanta in three weeks time. I have a "tentative" job, my parents' house to stay rent-free, and a massive feeling of trepidation about changing my life. But it's for the best - do you know what apartment prices are out there?!?!? Doesn't matter, it's cheap!!!! So, after six months of not having a job, getting pissed off with constantly going on interviews where bosses like to change the job description the second interview in and potentially getting an ulcer from stressing about money too much, I think I'm ready for this. I'll be packing up my life for the next little while so posts may be scarce but you can guarantee that there's going to be all sorts of nostalgia playlists going up. And pictures of me drinking. If you're in town and want to say goodbye to this English/California girl (who will probably be soon adopting a weird Georgian accent on top of that), the leaving party will be hosted at Sunshine Saloon 9/19 10:00 p.m. And when I say hosted I mean we're grabbing a table and I'll probably be on the dance floor all night in between doing shots. And crying. And doing shots. Pictures from my travels will be going up in the next couple of days but the music will resume again very shortly. It'll have to be - it's the only way I can get over the slight depression that I'm living with my parents again for a little while...
