Original SAQ tv storyboard

Here's the original board. It's the same angles, the same action, just a different drawing style.

SAQ storyboard

noreply@blogger.com (Felix Rocque) — Thu, 18 Mar 2010 19:55:00 +0000

Agency: Sid Lee
Production: Les Enfants
Director: Ben Steiger Levine

Here is the final storyboard for the SAQ's TV commercial. We originally created a dark, '50s, film noir aesthetics for the storyboard, but the client preferred a more natural approach for the comical effect. I will post the original storyboard later.

Frito-Lay's tv commercial Motionboard and Backgdrops

noreply@blogger.com (Felix Rocque) — Thu, 18 Mar 2010 19:29:00 +0000

Here's another tv commercial that Ben directed. I was first asked to create a motionboard (animatic) for previzualisation and pitching the concept.

Agency : Nolin BBDO
Production company: Les enfants
Director: Ben Steiger-Levine
Art Director: David Pelletier
Dir. Photography: Christophe Collette

Here's the Motionboard.

After, I was asked to create the 5 backdrops that would be skewed as if projected onto the surface. The huge photo-touchups were then printed on self adhesive 12x14 panels. I worked closely with David, the DA, to deliver theses images that needed to be glued in real-life on a cube on the set. He managed to integrate live elements to enhance the effect.

The first one, the office, is a full 3D image, that we produced with the help of Sebastien Nadeau at Spica.
First, the sketches...

Then the final image (the red lines represent where it fits on the actual set)

The three others are photo touchups and enhancements.

The last one, the kitchen, is a full 3D image, again achieved with the help of Sebastien Nadeau. Thanks Seb!

Here is the final tv commercial, in french. (It basically says that the new package format is convenient for any situations!)

"SPARK" Mood board for the Sprite Ad Campaign with Drake

noreply@blogger.com (Felix Rocque) — Thu, 18 Feb 2010 15:34:00 +0000

This is the mood board I did for the Sprite commercial. The vision of the director was to create the effect using an animatronic, rather than the usual CG fx.

Agency: Bartle Bogle Hegarty, New York

Production: A White Label Product
Director: Ben Steiger Levine

Here are the four panels of a storyboard for an adventure animated film. I will upload some more later.

Here are three panels of storyboard I had to draw for a gorvernment TV commercial.

Storyboard for a tv commercial pitch

noreply@blogger.com (Felix Rocque) — Fri, 15 Jan 2010 15:39:00 +0000

This storyboard is a bit old, but I figured it was nice to post all of them here. So I will try to upload as many as I can.

I often draw storyboards for pitching the director's approach to the ad agency.

Jaffa Stunt man commercial

noreply@blogger.com (Felix Rocque) — Mon, 11 Jan 2010 17:06:00 +0000

Agency: TBWA Finland

Production: Spy films
Director: Ben Steiger Levine

Here is another storyboard I did for the same client.

The approach here is rather more traditional. The director (Ben Levine) wanted to show the idea of a guy who always falls, and never seems hurt. We follow the kid growing up into a young man who finally becomes a stuntman.

I selected a very conventional drawing to focus on the story, and image composition.

Jaffa Soft drink storyboard

noreply@blogger.com (Felix Rocque) — Mon, 11 Jan 2010 04:36:00 +0000

Agency: TBWA Finland
Production: Spy films
Director: Ben Steiger Levine

Here's a storyboard I did for a tv advertisement for a popular Finnish soft drink. I had to work quickly (as usual) to deliver the storyboard in time for the pitch to the agency. (dir. Ben Levine)

Check out the video!

It's the story of a guy who, since he's young, always drums. At his parents house, in the gym, at christmas diner... He plays at parties, at small shows... And he finally makes it to the top... and when you're true to yourself, guess what you drink? The Product! (signature shot, and voilà!)

The director's approach was to have a circular dolly and use characters or props to wipe to the next scene. He wanted to show the camera movements, without loosing the storyline. He envisioned a cool and relax style that I wanted to portray in the storyboard.

I decided to work with a free style of drawing for this one as I thought it would fit with youth and authenticity, which the ad is all about. It turned out to be a very satisfying gig and the ad is pretty cool.

Welcome to my drawings log for moving media

noreply@blogger.com (Felix Rocque) — Mon, 11 Jan 2010 02:30:00 +0000

In this blog, I convey you to a journey through my work and research in motion drawing, a (relatively general) expression I like to use to refer to all the drawing-related arts created for the moving media: cinema, tv, advertisement, online experience, gaming and interactive platforms.

While hopping from animated TV series for kids, such as "Ripley's Believe it or not", feature films, games (such as the "Prince of Persia" franchise), tv advertisements (Sprite, Jaffa) and music videos, I had the opportunity to explore different styles and approaches towards motion drawing.

I will try to share frequently my sketches, studies and final work, in hope that something interesting pops up, and that it will create links with other artists in this field.

Hope you will have a good read,
Felix
