Drawing and Painting with Maria

I Would Like to be Perfectly Clear . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 01 Jul 2017 13:47:00 +0000

My Patreon Page is PER PROJECT ONLY Not per post!

Regardless of whether you pledge at the $1 Level or the $30 Level, it's a PER PROJECT donation. What that means for you is: the duration of your level of commitment is from the date you donate through September 30th, 2017.

From whatever date you pledge your donation until the project ends on the 30th of September, will be the only amount you will ever pay unless you increase your pledge amount or make another pledge to the next project.

There is NO MONTHLY PAYMENT.
Only your one-time donation to the current project.

I think that Patreon is mainly used by monthly models and the wording when you are making your donation on a per-project basis, may not be clear enough for everyone.

So, if you still have any questions please don't hesitate to leave a comment here or go to my website and submit a "drop me a line" form with a direct message. Either way, I will try to answer all of your questions and I will also try to get back to you asap :-)

Stay Creative my Friends!

What a Beautiful Lady, Inside and Out!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 27 Jun 2017 17:15:00 +0000

I was reading a post written by a dear friend Joanne Fink of Zenspirations and was extremely moved by her words. I lost a very sweet and dear young man this year and she has/is helped me through the really tough stuff. I try to pass on her words of wisdom as she is an expert on the matter although unfortunately not by choice. Please Read . . .

June 27th this year is a milestone for me– it’s my 35th wedding anniversary. Andy and I celebrated 29 wedding anniversaries together– this will be the sixth time that I am facing our special day without him. I was a total wreck the first year after he died… and, frankly, not in great shape the following years either. But this year I have decided to try to commemorate our anniversary by focusing on the many wonderful things I remember about our time together. Andy’s love blessed my life in ways I am still discovering; sharing his legacy is helping me grow into the person I am becoming. On my Journey from Grief to Gratitude, I am profoundly grateful for the love we shared and the years we had together.

Stay Zenspired,

Joanne

No truer words have ever been written/spoken! I love her and the ability she has to see the best in people! :-)

Thank you, Joanne and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Huge Hugs and Love,

Maria/akaReeah.

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE! I have a brand new website!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 02 Jun 2017 21:21:00 +0000

I will NOT be ending my blog for those of you wondering. I will keep it as a more personal touch to my new website and an integral part of it. I wanted the new site to be a place where I can sell my original art and maybe from time to time issue some limited prints. My goal is to partner with Art Store Fronts in making that happen. Their model is exactly the flexibility I'm looking for and I certainly don't want to reinvent the wheel so to speak :-) I feel that by keeping my blog "as is" for the most part, I'm able to keep that closeness to the folks who follow it, and really enjoy seeing what's going on, not only with my Art but with Myself as well.

Here is a link to the new site Drawing and Painting with Maria. You can go ahead and click it right now! Don't fret, once you are there and look around you can easily come right back here if you like by clicking the button you see right on the HOME Page.

I hope folks will take a minute out of their busy day to browse my creations and maybe sip their morning beverage? I find art is a very soothing way to start your day. It works much better for me than say . . . CNN? or even the local News? I find sipping my morning coffee while browsing through the creations from the people I follow, is a wonderful way to start the day, go ahead . . . give it a try :-)

Now, you will notice that there is NO store setup right now. This is going to be phase II of implementing the website. I am scheduling an appointment with the folks at Art Store Fronts and I hope to have a store for you to purchase original art from by the end of June 2017. This date is, of course, tentative barring any unforeseen obstacles on my part, LOL. That is a really nice way of saying . . . It will happen by then as long as I didn't mess anything up, Hahaha !!! LOL! :-)

So, there you have it, folks. YAY! I'm super excited!!! I hope you are too. Leave comments, let me know what you think and take a hop over to the new site and check it out. You can subscribe to my "New Subs" list on the new site and get a 10% off coupon code that does not expire ever! When the store goes live there will be announcements to all, however, those who subscribe will get notified FIRST!

Thank you for your time. If you have read the entire post to the end, I sincerely thank you from the top, bottom and all of my heart. This is very big for me and no matter what happens, I know I will never regret going all in on my dream.

Huge Hugs & Thanks to ALL
and Stay Creative,

Reeah.

A New Cleaner Look for our site . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 18 May 2017 15:51:00 +0000

Hi Everyone! If you noticed a change to the site, you are absolutely right! HA!
I have upgraded my site to look cleaner and have easier readability. I chose a better theme and layout, in my opinion, to better showcase my artwork and new gadgets like subscribing to get post notifications by email. There's also a new SEARCH function at the top of the page that should make getting around a bit easier too.

So, with all that said, how the hell are you guys?? It's been a struggle of a year so far for me and much of my family. However, I believe things are on an upswing!! I dyed my hair, ordered PIYO and have changed the way I eat. I may be turning 50 this year but I certainly don't need to look and feel older than that!

I have some big plans for the near future so stay tuned and you won't miss a thing :-)

As Always, Big Hugs!!!

Indiegogo - The Viviva Colorsheets- The most portable watercolors! The Team Just Posted An Update!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 17 May 2017 01:00:00 +0000

Hey, Everyone!

I'm truly excited about the project I'm backing on Indiegogo. The product is called Viviva Colorsheets and it is going to make sketching on the go with watercolor, not a pain in the ass anymore, YAY!

I have been using watercolor to create with for a very long time and this is the first product in quite some time that has me "over the moon" excited about receiving it in the mail. I'm going to attempt to do some urban sketching this spring and summer and this product is going to be the perfect addition to my travel sketch case.

The Viviva Colorsheets project has just announced a stretch goal of $60,000 since the project goal of $45,000 has been met with plenty of time left over. Isn't that exciting? If we are able to reach to $60k mark, they will ship all the Viviva Colorsheets with a plastic mixing panel that you can fold in and out ... isn't that cool?!

They are already listening to their community and their suggestions!

I'll have some brand new eye candy for you soon but I can't put it up yet. I'm trying to put together a small show and I'm waiting until I have that date to let you guys know.

Have a wonderful day and until next time . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 08 Feb 2017 19:53:00 +0000

This is the hardest post I have ever had to write ...

I have to say that 2017 for me so far, has been a complete bust. That's putting it as politely as I possibly can as not to offend my closest and dearest family members. However, this year is officially one of the worst in my life.

Saturday I have a complete meltdown after being bit accidentally by my shithead dog who thinks he has to but his nose were it doesn't belong but that will be another oh but interesting post.

Sunday morning I get the call of life altering pain. My oldest son Jacob's life-long best friend had a seizure and died. 25 years young, full of life, freshly married, loving his wife, his family, his friends & seemed to have life by the ass.

Gone, snuffed out in a span of less than a minute I believe, thank God for small favors he didn't suffer. None of it makes any sort of logical sense and yet it's still the reality I keep waking up to. We come together in celebration of his quarter century on this earth and all the love he gave each and every one of us who had the pleasure of calling him friend.

I love you Jesse.

Big Hugs!!

#GivingTuesday - I Didn't Even Know It Was Giving Tuesday . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 30 Nov 2016 17:16:00 +0000

Yesterday. I had no idea there was any such thing as #GivingTuesday until I read Joanne Fink's post on her Zenspirations Blog. I know the Jennifer McGuire does a "Thankfulness" thing every year on her blog that I really enjoy but I didn't know there was a "DAY". Anyway, it was actually Monday evening and I was standing in my favorite Pizza Place where I go every Monday before Monday Night Raw comes on, to pick up our extra-large plain cheese. Shout out to Anthony's Pizza in Simpsonville, SC!!!!

Anyway, I was waiting for the girl at the register to finish with the family in front of me, so that I could pay for and pick up my pizza. It was a Mom with 5 children that ranged from about age 4-5 to the oldest who looked to be about 14 or 15. They were all nicely dressed and EXTREMELY well behaved. Mom was trying to figure out what each child wanted to eat and place the order without breaking her wallet, it took a while :-) It was ok though and I patiently waited while she figured it all out but I remember thinking to myself . . . wow, she must be an awesome mom. None of the kids are acting out, getting into anything (like trouble) or being the slightest bit ungrateful! Just when I thought the Mom had figured out dinner for all the kids and she appeared to be all done, both the Mom and the waitress realized that the Mother had not ordered anything for herself to eat! She was so worried about having enough money to feed each of the kids, she had forgotten all about herself. They both laughed and I joined in.
I had $20 in my wallet that I had stashed for "whatever". I immediately knew what my "whatever" was going to be.

While Mom was deciding how she would now afford a meal for herself on top of all five children, I was trying to figure out how to give her my "stash" without offending her. So I slipped a $20 bill to the waitress at the register while Mom wasn't looking, and told her to take it off Mom's order. It was obvious she really couldn't afford to spend the money on the meal in the first place but was doing it because her children deserved it and I agreed. These were some of the best behaved children I had ever seen! So, it finally came to a total and with my help it was cut almost in half. She was over the moon and didn't know what to say when the girl told her why it wasn't the amount she was expecting. She couldn't say thank you enough and had a tear in her eye. So with one in mine as well, I told her she was very welcome and that I thought she deserved it. I also wished her a Merry Christmas and then I took my pizza and left.

Nothing in this world has made me feel the overwhelming joy I felt as I left the pizza place. I have thought about her on and off each day since and so I'm writing this blog post to let all of you know . . .

'Tis the Season of Giving!!!
AND NOT JUST ON TUESDAY, LOL!!!! :-)

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!

NO MATTER WHAT YOU CELEBRATE MAY IT BE JOYOUS
AND FILLED WITH LOVE AND KINDNESS!!!

As always, go out and be creative today . . . you won't regret it, I promise!

I've Discovered "Peter Draws"

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 17 Nov 2016 20:13:00 +0000

This my friends, is pure joy. To watch/listen to Peter as he reads from a book of fairy tales by Hans Christian Anderson. I really have found my bliss :-)
Check out this video and you will be just pleasantly surprised and amazed at the joy you can get from just listening. I'm not truly sure how to describe Peter so I will leave first impressions to be just that and not to be skewed by mine.

BUT HE'S AWESOME!!!!

Just sayin :-)

I just want to get the word out there, cuz I been missing a lot of Peter time over the last few years and I have got some serious catching up to do. . .

#NanNoJouMo2016 Has Started!!!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sat, 05 Nov 2016 20:59:00 +0000

Although I have been following along for a few years I have never participated until this year. So, this is the daily prompt list that I got from the site I follow. I believe the name is in the bottom right corner of this pic.

I did a tree sketch and a small girl "Up A Tree", which was the prompt for day 1. Then I decided I would like to continue to work this same sketch from day 1 and incorporate the next few prompts/days into this one sketch.

So I did, and it was fun!! :-)

Days 1-4 of the daily list I posted above are in the following sketch. Hope you like it. Sorry for the shininess, overhead light was reflecting. But they're not too bad. Here are the pics of the page.

The prompts contained within the sketch in order are:
Up A Tree, In Bloom, Fashionable, Smashing Pumpkins

In Bloom

Fashionable

Some Sugar from the South on Day of the Dead

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 01 Nov 2016 05:20:00 +0000

- UPDATE -

Added more doodling and carved out the hair more. Going to work on the "Gem-Like" appearance I want on the vertebrae in the neck. Not sure if it's still "sweet enough" to be a sugar skull but I am really liking seeing where this is going. I feel there's lots of room yet to work on it and improve it. I would like a bit more definition to the hair portion as well after I work on the vertebrae.

That's all for now. hope you enjoyed this quick update and I have a few more in store for you in the next few days. As Always, go out and do something creative today! You won't regret it.

Original Post Said:
This is my most recent piece in my sketch book. I was watching a video by Sea Lemon that I will link to here if you would like to watch it. She is just darling and I love her book binding tutorials as well. Jennifer has all sorts of helpful DIY projects on her channel so check it out for a variety of helpful and inspirational items of usefulness, LOL!, WOW! That was a mouth full for sure, Ha!

I really just used the basic shape that she used and then just did my own after that. You can see they don't look anything alike once all decorated with your own personal touch and style. Even if I don't have a clue what my "style" is.

Enjoy . . . .

I'm still going to do more with the Hair and the Background.
I also am going to use some colored pencil on the 2 center
rectangles in the vertebrae to make them look Gem Like.

I will post a final pic when I'm all done with it, hopefully no later than Wednesday evening. So I hope you like the stuff so far. I'm going to try and start incorporating the vids soon on my YouTube channel, to complement what I'm putting up on the blog. This site is my first love so I want to keep that my main focus and outlet for communicating with you all. Well, it's 1:13am Eastern Time and I think I better go lay my head on the pillow for a few hours.

I tried to capture how I painted all around the canvas, covering all the sides. It really makes the painting look nice and finished when it's all done. I'm going to add some little critters and things in some of the windows but since Halloween is over for this year, it will have to wait until next year. Or maybe Halloween in June??? Who knows, LOL !!??

Spooky Town Update

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Tue, 25 Oct 2016 01:17:00 +0000

I am finally hitting the home stretch on my "Spooky Town Zoomed-In" painting. I have added the lady-witch character but before I did that, I did a sketch of lady-witch in my small Canson Mixed Media journal. I was a little nervous about sketching her directly onto the canvas freehand so I thought it would be a good idea to do her in my book first and get a confidence level for drawing her. Then I drew her directly onto the canvas . . . . . UGH, NO :-(

I didn't. I traced what I drew in my sketchbook because I loved it and transferred it onto my canvas via a bit of graphite powder from my sharpener that I use to sharpen the leads in my graphite stick holder. It holds 2-3mm thick sticks of graphite or whatever you want to put in it I guess?? Anyway, I'm getting off on a tangent, sorry :-)

Anyway, I did this 7"x10" painting in acrylic in my sketchbook and then used my traced copy to transfer the drawing to my canvas and paint her there as well. I also used the smaller painting in my book to work out some color and value ideas and issues that came about as I went along. It was really fun actually and I feel myself becoming more and more inspired the more I try Cinnamon's techniques and paint some of her designs that I feel inspired by. So Hey, why don't you get a canvas and brushes at your local WalMart and some System 3 Daler Rowney paint as well why you are getting some milk and diapers or whatever and give painting some of this stuff a go? It's HUGE FUN!!! I just know you'll love it.

Hope you enjoy the pics and look for me on TheArtSherpa.com and on YouTube!

Working on an ART Sherpa Original Design for Spooky Town . . . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Sun, 16 Oct 2016 19:01:00 +0000

I don't normally use other youtube videos for direct inspiration however, I could not resist this SUPER CUTE "Spooky Town" by Cinnamon Cooney, MY Art Sherpa. I love watching her show. I love the way her and John interact together, how they show affection for one another openly and just the general vibe they give from their show. So when I saw this pop up on my notifications I thought WOW! that's super cute! I just have to give it a go and see what I can make of it.

Now, I used a 12x12 canvas instead of the longer one she used because that's what I have. I bought a pack of 7 at Michael's a while back on sale and busted them bad boys out just for this occasion. Now I'm thinking I could add on with the other spooky & cool paintings they have been putting up for Halloween. It's seems like I'm just loving them one after the other.

Thanks to Cinnamon and John for their hard work and wonderful show they put out FREE for all of us! I'm truly thankful for you and your whole family really cuz I watch your Mom too :-) Not a member of her Live Gallery site yet but I'm tossing it around but that's another post, lol!

Hope you like it so far, it's a W.I.P. and I will be updating this post with pics as I go so stay tuned :-) and as always . . .

My Current Piece of Artwork . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Wed, 07 Sep 2016 17:02:00 +0000

I started with the eye and moved to the nose and mouth.

I was having so much fun and was relaxing so much while doing the drawing I wasn't even aware of how much time had passed, lol! That's when I know a drawing, painting or whatever, is going to turn out really well. When I'm so absorbed that I don't realize how much time is passing and then there is a certain feeling I get of Zen that lets me know I'm doing a good job.

NEXT are photos of the face portion completed. ONCE the boarder is complete the entire drawing will be finished and prints will be available.

I already have a print claimed by a friend who saw it on FB and would like a print for her Real Estate Office. I was so happy when so approached me and asked if she could have even a photo copy of it, she loves it so much. Just so happened I had the journal in my purse that had this drawing in it and I showed her the original drawing. She was overjoyed and so was I. It was the first time someone outside of my immediate family had complimented my art and validated my abilities and I think I am still on cloud 9.

I will continue to keep you all posted here and let you know when the prints become available. Thank you all for reading and viewing my artwork.
As always, enjoy your art process and give yourself some Big Hugs!!

A Few Other Odds & Ends . . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 26 Aug 2016 04:18:00 +0000

Just Some Odds & Ends that I think turned out rather well.

The mushroom is a hand carved stamp that I made back in May of 2016. After I stamped, colored it and threw some ink around it. I was just inspired by the way the ink and paint dryed to doodle around it and draw what looks like a Dwarven guy with a very big hammer.

With the release of the Legion Expansion for World of Warcraft on August 360, 2016 I thought I would throw him in with my odds and ends post.

Going Forward . . . I'm going to try and get on a blog schedule to post more regularly. So, I will give it my best and we shall see what happens.

I sure hope you like the rest of the pics. I'm really starting to enjoy my art again.
Until next time . . . .

Painting along with Ginger . . .

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 26 Aug 2016 03:11:00 +0000

I had such fun watching the recorded Ginger Cook Live Show called Ginger Crumbs that I decided to paint along and watch it twice. I had a blast!! Not only do I just love Hibiscus flowers, which was the subject of the painting, but I also love Ginger's stories! This lady can just tickle my funny bone all show long with her quips and short funny comments but the best of it all are her life stories. I just love when she tells one of her, what I call, "life story". If you want to know what I'm referring to, you will have to go and watch the video since she is keeping it up on YouTube due to unforeseen circumstances with the Monday night broadcast I believe. Anyway, she is keeping it up so go and watch it. I promise there will be a "life story" to tickle your funny bone if you have one.

OK, now for the fruits of my labor . . . . .

I recently purchased some Daler Rowney Acrylic Paint called System3. My local WalMart started carrying them and I had heard good things so I thought I would give them a go and I was very pleasantly surprised because they were only $2.98 per 2 fl oz tube. They performed fabulously and mixed colors like a champ so I'm very happy with them especially for the price.

I apologize if the photos are a bit dark, I didn't want to brighten beyond what the flash had done so that the colors represented on the blog well. It's a fairly on the dark side painting with regard to the overall tone of it so I left it alone. I'm extremely happy with how it turned out. Let me know how you fair with Ginger and let me know how you liked the "life story"? Until next time . . . .
Big Hugs!!
