Write about what you know - Well i know something, hmm

Do not start a blog about a certain topic just because you think it will make money. Start a site/blog on a topic you know and fully understand or are passionate about. If you can learn to monetize that then you can think about blogging for pure profit. To many rookie bloggers make the mistake of wanting to cash in big on their first project. Don't get trapped in this mindset, the vast majority of full time bloggers DID NOT make it on their first three sites. Just because you didn't make a fortune on your first couple sites makes absolutely no difference on your future success.

Self Confidence - Of course i'm.. Look

Guess what? When you start a site on something you know and love your opinion has just as much merit as the next guys. Do not be afraid to stick your neck out there. Let people know your opinions without out fear of being proven wrong later. This doesn't mean misrepresent facts. This means that when it comes to your opinion make sure you give YOUR opinion. Who cares if someone disagrees, or you are proven wrong later. In-fact, the more outrageous your opinions the more your blog will attract hits. It's your site, if they don't like it so what - at the end of the day it's only the internet for pete's sake.

Attract Traffic Through Linking - We'll see, about to do that

Make your site look Professional - I've tried, it kind a ok for me.

To many people are giving away bad information. Back on the late 90's a lot people used to say that if you had good content you didn't need good design. Not sure if that was ever true then but it is definitely not true now. If you suck at graphics and design (like I do) then get a freeware template or ask a buddy to design something for you. If your site does not have a professional appearance people will not take it seriously. The more appealing your blog is on the eyes the more people will stick around. This is a proven fact. This means good navigation and clearly defined and accessible links. It still baffles me why top companies and corporations pay very little mind to this. I have been browsing numerous sites and when I went to purchase their product or service I could not find the payment link! If anyone could not find a payment link on an e-commerce site the webmaster should be fired that instant.

Having too many ‘hairy’ moments? INTAN MAIZURA AHMAD KAMAL talks to an expert on ways to curb it. LET'S face it. Seeing strands and strands of your crowning glory going down the plughole every time you wash your hair is most disconcerting.

It gets even more alarming when you begin to notice sparse patches on your head - and you're not even middle-aged yet. But it seems, thinning hair and bald patches are no longer predicaments of those in their later years. According to Svenson Hair Care Centre's chief trichologist Teo Kim Teik, there is a marked increase in the number of young people, particularly in urban areas, who are seeking professional help for the onset of hair loss.

A lot of this has to do with our lifestyle and that 'S' word - STRESS. "Everyone lives life with a certain degree of stress these days but you have to counter it by either sweating it out or learning to relax," advises Teo, a hair specialist and a qualified trichologist of 18 years. To sweat it out effectively, you must not overdo it. "Do it slowly and gradually. There's a certain limit you can go to when the exercise is to relax. Exceeding it will make it stressful."

Having a balanced diet and enough sleep - two things we tend to neglect in our harried lifestyle today - are so important. Says Teo: "Hair is very much related to health so it's important to eat well, have enough protein in your intake and, of course, have enough sleep." Women's hair loss is often related to hormonal changes, especially after birth. "Post-natal hair loss is very common," reassures Teo. "Hair loss also occurs when you have menopause and in some cases when you're taking birth control pills."

Common hair worries for both women and men, says Teo, include itchy and oily scalp, pimples in the scalp and of course, hair loss. "But worrying makes it worse. That's why clients pay us to worry for them!" The centre places greater priority on hair health over beauty. "But if you ask any woman, she will tell you that beauty comes first," says Teo with a chuckle. "Hairdressers look at making your hair look good but not necessarily the condition."

Teo should know. He was a hairdresser at the Alan International School of Hairdressing in London back in 1977 before he joined Svenson in 1980. "As a hairstylist, I looked at things from a professional beauty angle. I did come across people with problems of hair loss but I couldn't do anything. The most I could offer was to style, cut, and perm it to give body to the hair."

At Svenson, clients are offered intensive programmes that span three to six months. "It's better if they come when the problem is still in its early stages and not when the root is already dead and it's almost impossible to re-grow the hair," he advises. They also provide a follow-up maintenance programme where clients come back once a month to ensure that there are no recurring problems.

"The maintenance part takes into account a client's lifestyle. If they work outdoors, the programme would be geared more towards cleansing. If they lead a generally stressful lifestyle, then it's the anti-stress programme that focuses on relaxing the scalp.

"Women tend to be more conscientious when it comes to following our advice. Only about 10 per cent of men, on the other hand, end up coming back. During the maintenance consultation, we don't only talk about hair and scalp. We also go thorough your diet and touch on stress management where applicable. We basically approach everything in a holistic manner."

Tips for a good head of hair

HEALTHY hair is important. And healthy hair means a healthy scalp. To have a healthy scalp, you need to clean it properly. It's a simple thing to do but most people take it for granted.

Choose a shampoo that suits your scalp. The rule of thumb is to choose a shampoo according to your scalp, and the conditioner according to your hair. Teo doesn't recommend the 2-in-1 variety as "it doesn't clean enough or condition enough. Five to 10 years ago, it was popular because it was a shortcut but that kind of product is slowly dying out."

Diet is very important. Hair needs protein so don't take protein out of your meals. Enough rest and being able to manage your stress are so important.

Supplements aren't necessary if you're already eating a balanced diet. But most of us don't. Supplements such as Vitamin B and C are safe. Says Teo: "If you take a lot, you'll just have very expensive urine. Too much Vitamin A can be toxic. Moderation is important." Colouring and styling is fine as long as it's done properly. Any chemical process will dry up the hair. Sometimes when you're having your hair coloured, the stylist will actually be applying colour onto the scalp too when they're only supposed to have it on your hair. That's very toxic. The problem lies with the clients sometimes as they insist on not seeing any white spaces at all on their head.

Manuel Uribe hasn't left his bed or his apartment in Monterrey, Mexico, in five years.

Morbid Obesity

Large publishers often sell only their remnant inventory through ad networks. Typical numbers range from 10% to 60% of total inventory being remnant and sold through advertising networks. Smaller publishers often sell all of their inventory through ad networks. One type of ad network, known as a blind network, is such that advertisers place ads, but do not know the exact places where their ads are being placed.

There are three types of online advertising networks: 1) Representative Networks, 2) Blind Networks and 3) Targeted Networks.

1) Representative (or Rep) Networks: They represent the publications in their portfolio, with full transparency for the advertiser about where their ads will run. They typically promote high quality traffic at market prices and are heavily used by brand marketers. The economic model is generally revenue share.

2) Blind Networks: These companies offer low pricing to direct marketers in exchange for those marketers relinquishing control over where their ads will run. Blind networks achieve their low pricing through large bulk buys of typically remnant inventory combined with campaign optimization and ad targeting technology. The financial model is arbitrage.

3) Targeted Networks: Sometimes called “next generation” or “2.0” ad networks, these focus on specific targeting technologies such as behavioral or contextual. Targeted networks specialize in using consumer click stream data to enhance the value of the inventory they purchase.

FIRE chiefs rushed 18 crew, three engines, a Land Rover and a rescue boat to a 999 call — to save a trapped DUCK. Residents feared a child had drowned as teams raced up to 35 MILES to the scene with blue lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Locals were stunned to find the “casualty” was Daffy, a white Aylesbury, trapped in a drainage tunnel.A woman called 999 after finding the duck stuck between sluices near Earlswood, West Midlands. Last night residents blasted the three-hour operation to free the bird, which lives on a nearby lake, as a “waste of money”.

Retired fireman Neil Guest, 54, said:

“It was unbelievable. There were five men to each engine, an officer in charge and two with the dinghy. That duck got treated better than people did in the floods.”

Warwickshire fire bosses said it was their “good deed for the day”.

In the not-so-distant future TV as we know it, will cease to exist. This is going to have huge ramifications on the whole of human society, or at least the so-called 'wealthy' countries that sit in front of the 'magic-story-box' religiously everyday. I say 'so-called' because we obviously measure wealth in terms of material gain and not internal peace or gratitude for life. When television first appeared, like the telephone (see last article on the changing world of voice-communication: 'Internet nerds are actually secret prophets who change the way our world works. Check out Skype, a type of future communication technology.') TV was an incredible addition to our collective reality. However, we are in the 'Information Age' and this means that the ways we do things as a species are changing faster than you can say,

"Humans humorously hunt for humble hints at how to have more happiness."

The coming of the Internet spells the end of the television era, and this could also mean the end of years of walking around with mindless advertising jingles in your head. The other day when I was washing the dishes I absent-mindedly started to sing the slogan from one of my local TV channels, "Bringing it home to you." If these silly songs are what they bring home to me, I am going to quite happy when they're gone. Thankfully, as TV shows are already putting episodes on-line these hard-core advertising techniques may soon disappear altogether. TV on the Internet means many things for the viewer. As the show is coming straight to you instead of through the old channel medium, you can have more control of the show, with elements of video, like pause and rewind coming into play. Watching a show straight through without commercials sounds like a godsend indeed. TV websites will still need corporate sponsorship for promotion elsewhere, so the concept of 'product placement' that has already come into play will most probably evolve further, especially in the case of International companies whose products are available universally. Hopefully these 'placements' don't go too far from reality thus taking us metaphorically back to times of 'canned' laughter and obviously contrived dialogue.

I can just imagine Homer on the 'Simpsons' suddenly changing the beer he drinks from 'Duff' to Budweiser because it 'tastes great and is less filling.' As if he ever cared whether his doughnuts came from Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Doughnuts, or cared about his weight for that matter! So of course with all changes in life come both sides of the coin of positive and negative outcomes. Still, having TV integrated as another of the infinite capabilities of your personal computer makes life more simple, not to mention that the quality of the broadcast will be equal to the latest in digital technology.

Someone will have to figure out what to do in the case of a person wanting to watch an American show when living in England or another foreign country. Your Internet Service Provider may choose to integrate local advertisements into the American commercials won't be relevant to the viewer overseas. TV-On-Demand (paying for individual shows) may also become one of the main viewing options.

The main bonus in having television on the Internet is the idea that we will have more control over our lives. Instead of having to watch a show at a designated time that your channel decides, you will now be able to watch what you want, when you want it. No more missing shows, having to tape episodes, or worrying about your kids seeing something that you feel isn't suitable. The watcher becomes the ultimate controller of viewing reality, so theoretically life becomes easier. I won't dispute this fact but I will always be a firm believer that life truly improves when we improve our attitudes towards it. I also feel that what we produce presently on television needs to start evolving as much as the technology that provides it. Violence, crime, murder and death on the News and primetime are getting as old as my underwear. I won't mention in what year they were purchased.

Just because there will be less channels to choose from doesn't mean there will be less to watch. On the contrary, there will probably be more and more shows and the chance for you to put your own show out there on a web site means much more variety. Broadcasters may keep producing groups of shows on websites, but there will surely be much more competition from producers who work on their own.
