The film “follows a family that relocates to Salem, Massachusetts for a fresh start, only to discover their historic home may be tied to a centuries-old supernatural force waiting to return”.

Don’t you just hate it when that happens?

Deadline notes that Lang will play Henry Woodward, “a respected local historian with knowledge of Salem’s dark past that could hold the key to the family’s terrifying ordeal.”

The project is being helmed by Kevin Lewis, who caught the attention of horror fans with the Nicolas Cage horror film, Willy Wonderland. He’ll direct from a script by Michael Caissie (Hunter’s Moon).

Producers are Caissie via Stoic Films, alongside Clayton Turnage. Executive producers include Monika Simeonova, Jeffrey Goldberg, and Chris Cole.

Said Caissie, “Stephen has a rare ability to bring intelligence, authenticity, and emotional truth to every role he takes on. Henry carries much of the weight of Mercy Good‘s mythology, but what makes the character work is his humanity. I knew Stephen could bring both to the role.”

Truer words have never been spoken. Lang is a phenomenal actor who demands your attention on screen. He’s appeared in countless films, but is perhaps best known to genre fans for his intimidating portrayal of the Blind Man from Don’t Breathe. You can also find him playing the villain in recent films like the Avatar franchise and Sisu: Road to Revenge.

Mercy Good is set to begin filming in Kentucky this September.

Directed by Kenji Tanigaki, The Furious stars Xie Miao as Wang Wei, a desperate father who takes matters into his own hands after his daughter is kidnapped by a powerful criminal network. With corrupt police refusing to help, Wei launches a relentless campaign of vengeance and is joined by Navin (Joe Taslim), a determined journalist searching for answers about his own missing wife.

What follows is an explosive martial arts showdown packed with intense action, brutal fights, and high-stakes revenge.

The film also stars Yang Enyou, Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga, Sahajak Boonthanakit, Manatsanun Phanlerdwongsakul, Guo Junqing, and Winai Wiangyangkung, with special appearances by Yayan Ruhian and Jija Yanin.

To celebrate the theatrical release, Lionsgate has commissioned a series of exclusive alternative posters inspired by The Furious from acclaimed Poster Posse artists Vincent Aseo (@vincentaseo), Khang Giate (@giateee), Ashraf Omar (@ashrafomar_), and Ali Shimhaq (@shimhaq). The Furious is rated R for strong bloody violence and language, runs 114 minutes, and arrives exclusively in theaters on June 12, 2026.

Based on the Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho) novel, the series is set in Los Angeles in the 1980s and “follows Bret (Igby Rigney), an aspiring writer whose high school life begins to unravel when the arrival of a new student, Robert Mallory (Homer Gere), coincides with the growing terror of the Trawler, a serial killer stalking teenagers across the Valley.”

The Trawler, eh? Any relation to I Know What You Did Last Summer‘s Fisherman? Probably not, but they sound like they’d get along.

“As Bret’s imagination spirals, so does his relationship with his girlfriend Debbie (Hayes Warner) and friends Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber) and Thom Wright (Graham Campbell). As the group navigates senior year of high school — and the wealth and drug-fueled excess of L.A. private school culture — their youth is further compromised by the transgressions of the adults in their orbit: Terry Schaffer (Wes Bentley), Liz Schaffer (Evan Rachel Wood) and Steven Reinhardt (Jordan Roth).”

Alongside Murphy, executive producers include Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Ellis, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Tanase Popa, Nick Hall, Michael Uppendahl, Max Winkler, Kathleen McCaffrey and Brian Young. The series is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.

The outlet notes that a previous adaptation of the book was in development at HBO with director Luca Guadagnino (Suspiria) attached, but Murphy took over in 2025 and brought on director Max Winkler.

“The Shards” will premiere on FX and Hulu on August 5th at 6 p.m. PT.

Based on Night Signal Entertainment’s critically acclaimed puzzle video game of the same name, the film is set in the US and follows an unemployed loner who must take a job as a phone operator at a mysterious home security company, only to realize they specialize in protecting customers from horrific monsters that come out at night.

Michael Matthews (Love and Monsters) is directing from a script by Nick Tassoni (Lure).

Scooby-Doo: Origins marks the first time in the Scooby-Doo franchise that the character of Scooby-Doo will be portrayed by a real Great Dane dog.

A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.

With production now underway in Atlanta and an impressive ensemble joining the previously announced young cast, Scooby-Doo: Origins is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most ambitious family genre projects to date. Blending coming-of-age drama, supernatural mystery, and a fresh take on the beloved franchise, the series promises to explore how Mystery Inc. first came together while introducing audiences to the first live-action portrayal of Scooby-Doo as a real Great Dane. Scooby-Doo: Origins is slated to debut globally on Netflix in 2027.

Disney+ has released the official trailer for its upcoming animated supernatural comedy-adventure series The Doomies, which is set to premiere June 26 on the streaming service.

The series will launch with 22 half-hour episodes.

Disney+ will also debut four companion short-form episodes on the same day: Doug Unfiltered, Ghosted by a Ghost, Creepy Crepe, and What Is That Thing?

The Doomies follows best friends Bobby and Romy, whose lives are turned upside down after they accidentally open a portal to evil. Their once-peaceful coastal town becomes overrun with frightening creatures, forcing the teens to confront both supernatural threats and personal challenges as they unravel a growing mystery.

The voice cast includes Max Mittelman as Bobby, Madison Calderon as Romy, Noel Gibson as Kim, Jon Bailey as Doug and Zehra Fazal as Jenny.

Produced by Academy Award-nominated Xilam Animation for Disney Television Animation, the series was co-created by Andrès Fernandez, Pozla (Rémi Zaarour) and Henry Gifford. Fernandez directs all 22 episodes, while Marc du Pontavice serves as producer.

And yes, that’s the joke, because if we’re being honest, there really hasn’t been a good Exorcist movie outside of the original. Back in 1973, William Friedkin adapted William Peter Blatty’s novel into what is not only one of the greatest horror films ever made, but arguably still the scariest.

What makes The Exorcist so effective isn’t the head-spinning or the pea soup. It’s how relentlessly brutal the film is toward Regan. The things that happen to her, the things she says, the places the movie is willing to go – it’s uncomfortable. It’s shocking. Even today, there are moments that feel like they crossed a line. Modern studio horror just doesn’t operate that way anymore.

That’s why the film has endured. There’s nothing else quite like it, and there probably never will be.

Now, do we really need another Exorcist movie?

I think the answer is no.

The Exorcist was copied so many times that it basically became its own subgenre. We’ve had everything from The Last Exorcism to The Rite, The Possession, Deliver Us from Evil, Prey for the Devil, The Pope’s Exorcist, and countless other possession movies that have come and gone over the years. Some are good. Most are forgettable. But the market certainly isn’t starving for exorcism stories.

That said, the name still carries weight.

Universal reportedly spent around $400 million to acquire the rights and launch a new trilogy. Their first attempt, The Exorcist: Believer, was a swing and a miss. In my opinion, that started with putting the franchise in the hands of David Gordon Green. His style works for certain projects, but horror has never really felt like his lane, and Believer ultimately failed to justify its existence.

To their credit, Universal and Blumhouse seem to have learned from that mistake.

Enter Mike Flanagan.

Whether you love his work or not, Flanagan is one of the most respected horror filmmakers working today. Personally, I’m a fan. I like slow-burn storytelling. I like character development. I like horror that takes its time building atmosphere instead of immediately throwing chaos at the screen.

More importantly, Flanagan consistently gets strong performances out of his casts, and his writing tends to focus on people first and scares second. That’s a very different approach than what we’ve seen from most possession movies over the last few decades.

Today, Mike Flanagan announced that his new Exorcist movie has officially wrapped production after roughly three months of filming. That’s a pretty big milestone for a project that had a lot of eyes on it from the second his name was attached. After Believer failed to relaunch the franchise in any meaningful way, this one already feels like the real reset.

The cast is stacked. Scarlett Johansson, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Backrooms), Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Sasha Calle, and Jacobi Jupe headline the project, alongside several familiar faces from Flanagan’s previous work, including Carla Gugino, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Samantha Sloyan, Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly, and John Gallagher Jr.

His Exorcist is currently scheduled for release on March 12, 2027.

Maybe I’m setting myself up for disappointment, but this is the first time in decades that an Exorcist project actually feels exciting. Not because it’s another possession movie, but because it has a filmmaker attached who might bring something genuinely different to the table.

After decades of sequels, prequels, reboots, and imitators, Mike Flanagan’s film has a rare opportunity: not just to continue the Exorcist franchise, but to finally give it a worthy successor.

The rating is in line with the franchise’s recent entries. Evil Dead (2013) received an R rating for “strong bloody violence and gore, some sexual content and language,” while Evil Dead Rise was rated R for “strong bloody horror violence and gore, and some language.”

In the film, after the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites—turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell—she comes to discover that the vows she took in life live on… even in death.

The Dune: Part Two actress Souheila Yacoub stars in Evil Dead Burn alongside Hunter Doohan (Wednesday), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), and Tandi Wright (Pearl), with Erroll Shand, Edgar Price, Maude Davey, Keanu Karim, and Victory Ndukwe.

“I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested,” Vaniček previously said of Evil Dead Burn.

“I’m going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven’t ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!”

From producer Sam Raimi, Evil Dead Burn heads to theaters on July 10, 2026.

During a sit down with Deadline, the actress was asked about a cameo on the show. “Oh, I would never rule that out. I loved that cartoon growing up more than anything and the idea that I got to be in the movie was so shocking to me – and that kids who grew up with it talk about it to me, to this day.“

Added Cardellini, “I’m so excited for Abby [Ryder Fortson] and the rest of that cast because they are going to really be part of something that is television history. I’m very excited for them and I’ll be there in support of it in any way I can.”

With how much myself and others loved Cardellini as Velma, it would be a welcome surprise to see her show up in Scooby-Doo: Origins. We’ll have to wait and see. And who knows…maybe we’ll see some other familiar faces, as well (how fun would an appearance by Matthew Lillard be?).
