MagiSoft July 2013 - 久々(Long Time) Updates

Wooooooooooooooow!

I can't believe how much has happened since the last blog post. It is too much to type!

Well, as it stands, we always have lots of work to do! I'll try to name a few things but I am not really sure how soon they will be added. I think with all that is going on, Key and I will just have to take our time :)

- Add some of our games that are on mobile
- Change Website Layout on Dream Maidens and Dark Maidens
- Have a Directory List of our Apps on MagiSoftGames.com
- Create a Dream Maidens and Dark Maidens mobile site
- and some more stuff that we are not sure of

In a year's time we have released more games, however I will say that there are more developers making dress up games on mobile, which I am happy and more or less encouraged to develop other things due to the influx. It is next to impossible to find our games, and most would publish games for free, so in search Google displays free games first because it goes off of downloads. I think it is good to have a variety of games and know how to develop different game genres, and I am safe to say that they can have "dress up games" tag until the wheels fall off, because I already see some developers moving over to make cooking and other makeover games. We are always moving on :)

Personally --
The only difference between competition online and on mobile is that there is no circle of site promotion, but pure traffic driven promotion through advertisement and fake and/or paid app reviews (we get e-mails from companies offering this service all the time) and besides, Google loves free stuff (who doesn't if they had a choice?). I think selling paid apps are not as profitable on Google Play for this reason as it once was a year ago for dress up games, and for other genres also. Other developers have agreed that Google Play caters to a free market. Look at the Chrome Store and how different it looks compared to how it was in 2010-2011. Though I think making apps free will cause both paid and free app developers to lose revenue in the long run no matter how many games are in circulation. You just have to be the type that will last through it all :) This is what I've learned with Dream Maidens after moving to mobile.

I have done my homework and have learned a lot. Time has turned our bitterness and confusion to educating ourselves about the veil that is behind what is popular and what is not versus revenue earned (ROI - return on investment).

Its great that two people can compete with large team companies and accomplish so much without private funding, paid advertisement and outsourcing to get ahead and really keeping it honest!!!! After a little thought, I realized how much good we had done with Dream Maidens and how silly it was to abandon it because companies made us feel like we were small and insignificant in their world that was once cool for the small time developer. The same thing is happening on mobile and its time to stop running and face it.

That is why I am happy to say that we ARE doing our very best to continue creating rich content for everyone of all ages and make attempts to deliver our content across multiple platforms.

MagiSoft August 2012 Update

Hey Everyone!

Been a while as always :)

Although August is just about done, I still wanted to update. I'm in the middle of working on some stuff, and decided to take a break to blog!

Anyways, this month has been such a blast but before I get to the really fun stuff I need to make some announcements on previous posts and things of concern and changes that we are making.

Announcements:

Summer Internship with Niece
Our niece unfortunately had to stop working with us this summer. I don't think that working on games is something that she really wanted to do. Lack of motivation and some other issues prevented her from working with us. It is unfortunate, but we must move on. She will have to study and learn on her own time :) Perhaps we are too hard-working for some to keep up, but what can I do, that's just how we are. We did not get where we are by slacking and chatting to people online and on the phone all day long.

Barnes and Noble NOOK App Store
As you can see we have added games on several mobile markets. The numbers vary between the markets, especially in the Barnes and Noble's NOOK App Store. I did not want to really make such a big deal about this, but considering they keep putting the "nail in the coffin" on us with app submission, I am without choice to alert our fans of what is going on. I've received countless e-mails from Nook users asking us about adding more games (in their e-mail signature it says "Sent from my NOOK")

However after getting many app rejections for our games, I decided to create a support ticket inquiring about the rejections and this was the reply:

Dear Developer,

The app rejections for the updates are due to the app ecosystem being flooded with these type of apps in particular. The app in question, does not differentiate itself form the other five apps currently in our store. We understand that each one provides something different, but looking at the apps themselves, these could be combined to create a single user experience. We reserve the right to reject content based on how many apps of that type are in the store in order to maintain a certain type or genre of app from becoming overly prevalent to our customer base. We are happy to accept your apps, but they need to provide a higher standard of game play, quality, and diversity from the apps you have already put into the store.

Please let me know if you would like further explanation into this matter.

I am not going to tell you what you decide to do if you own a Nook Color/Tablet other than to play our games on our website, or something else, but I am washing my hands clean of this issue, because if they want to play that way, so be it. I did not think they would be so controlling, making decisions for their customers. I would be enraged to hear something like this from a consumer point of view. You already know how I feel developer wise. I own a Kindle Fire and an Acer Iconia, sooo... Google Play has every last mobile game that we have added and I will leave it at that :)

I am not saying that I will not keep trying to add our games on the Nook by being persistent, but I will tell you to not hold your breath. It will be a slim chance that you would even see a third of our games on there. I've seen them try to suggest things that would involve more time than it is worth to put apps on there. I am a type of create once, publish everywhere type of girl, so their attitude is clashing with mine. I refuse to make trials of our games on Nook, because it is not worth opening up another compiler to wrack my brain on getting a link to the full version to work, on top of that not being able to monetize from the trial since they do not allow advertising.... Need I say more?

Working with Other Game Studios (Our Friends)
Believe it or not, we were creating games for our friends and family. Although it seemed like a great idea at the time, it was putting a lot of stress on me and Key. We had our work to do, on top of explaining what they should do to create games on their own. No one wants to commit to doing the work, all they wanted to see was money. So, we are officially pulling the plug. No more games for people... no no no no no no no no NOOOO! Why should we do all the work and study, while they reap the benefits of having nerdy friends? On top of that, they were flooding the market, optimally becoming friendly competition. I have no idea how that was possible, but it was like we were competing with ourselves since we made the game.

NOW FOR SOME FUN STUFF

This summer we went to the Amusement Park! I haven't went swimming in years!! We went to lots of places and actually had a VACATION!

We are trying to go to some Anime/Gaming Conventions to sell our PC Games, Art Book and some other items. I am so excited!!!

Making the Most Out of Your Summer

Hey Everyone,

I woke up this morning with a nice thought to share with everyone. I have a little downtime until Keyeske is woke, so I figured why don't I take some time out and make a blog post ^_^

This summer we have our niece as our intern, and it has been a very enlightening experience. Shes 14 years old, and have seen how far we have come with all of our websites and mobile games. Her job is not too intensive, actually it really isn't what people would consider a job because it is only an hour a day, if that.

The reason why I am talking about our niece is because I would like to share with you that she is learning some very technical stuff for the summer. Although a lot of people would encourage the students to get stuffed into books for the summer to prepare for school, I think giving them hands on would be much better. It is a education that is a very different approach and it does away with the classroom setting. Some people tend to flourish when doing hands on projects. Maybe it is because they can visually put things into motion without writing or bubbling in the best answer.

Sometimes you tend to see them wondering what is the point in learning the curriculum that they are instructed for 10 months out of the year, and no one actually says, "Hey lets put your skills to what it can be used for." It is like asking questions about this method of learning is strictly taboo. I mean although I am an adult now, I too had the same problem when going through grade school. I'm sure we all have.

Dream-Maidens July 2012 Update

Hey Everyone,

I know its been a while since we last updated our blog, but so many things have happened! All good and positive news on this end. We hope that you are enjoying your summer so far.

After a couple of months of planning, we have decided to completely revamp the website (again I know). We will always keep our games on our site as it is, so do not worry. I'm unable to explain all the changes that we are planning, but just keep posted and as always, don't forget to bookmark and share Dream-Maidens to all of your friends.

As you know, we have developed a lot of great games for the website and for mobile as well. There were tons of new games that were added so it was pretty difficult for us to post each one that was released. I still intend to work on a system that will give a big directory of where to find and download our games, just like you can view here on the web.

We released another version of our Maidens game and created a cool promo video. Check it out!

On a hobby side of things, we have been creating books from scratch.

We sold one of our art books on Ebay, which was pretty cool. It is great to know how to do all sorts of things. You may never know when you can use it.

Its pretty late, and I have to get up early to work on some more goodies that you all will be able to see in the near future. Since I have a new Android tablet, I will try to blog as much as I can.

Happy Valentine's Day and Other Important Announcements

Hey Everyone!

First I would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day! Its a nice day to show and tell the ones you love how much you appreciate them. Upon writing this blog, Keyeske and I just received some chocolate from our neighbors. Aww I have to make something very nice for them! This post will be a long post, mainly because I have not made any other posts lately besides announcing our game releases on the Kindle Fire in the Amazon Appstore.

So on with it shall we?

In Handmade News......

I've added a few items on my Etsy shop, but truthfully, I really don't want to sell my items. Just a few days ago I took one of my listings down because I decided to give one of them to my neighbor. She was so thrilled to see the hat that I gave her, but it was a big thanks for being such an awesome nice neighbor.

In MagiSoft Developer News......

I honestly think this will be the bulk of the news, because I have so much to say. Nothing bad or anything, just more so a lot of work to do. We are really excited!

Okay not too long before I decided to make this post, I was casually browsing the Android Marketplace and decided to see all of our apps in our profile. I noticed that instead of 12 pages of apps that were usually listed, there was only 4 pages. On top of this, all of the apps except one (guess which one - Maidens Avatar Creator Deluxe) were free. I kept thinking to myself, gee this is a little funny, why aren't all our apps listed? Then I went to check my HTC Evo, and went to one of our game listings and clicked on "View more by MagiSoft" and it was showing the same exact thing I saw on the web. SO, something is really wrong there. On the other hand, I had already made a solution and was well prepared for the nuances of Android Market. They have so much of a history of making changes with little to no information given to developers, that I am not surprised anymore. I came ready.

I have a link inside just about every single app that we created that would link to all of our games through search. So, I went to the web and typed in MagiSoft in the search and all our games appeared. I bet your thinking, why share this? Well, since 4 pages of mostly free games show with the link I had from our website, I temporarily changed the link to our Apps on Dream-Maidens to the search method until Android Marketplace fixes the glitch, if they ever intend to fix it. This is all still temporary anyway because I need to have all our games on our website. I've just been passive about getting it together, but now since I am publishing in multiple app stores, I think it would be a good idea to roll out a section for our apps.

We are currently in the process of inviting more of our family and friends into our workspace, educating them about our work, and giving them access and materials to pursue creating games or any other type of online media. We are never stingy or selfish with our skills, and by remaining humble we are always encouraging and motivating others to stay positive and creative. This idea was derived from Keyeske and I preparing a big dinner every Friday for our Family and Friends, which I'll talk about later.

Keyeske and I are almost finished studying Java, and are well on our way to creating some Java programs. We still intend to use Flash for certain things, but we are gathering as much knowledge as we can to keep going. Last month, when I had Jury Duty, I took a Android Game Development book and read through most of the important chapters. It was go hard, but at the same time, if I didn't read anything, I would have been bored out of my mind! Every now and then I will try to add more games up the website, so that we do not lose our wonderful visitors :) I also need to mirror Dream-Maidens and place it on Dark-Maidens with a few adjustments, since it is just a different theme (dark, emo, etc.).

When I was browsing around on LinkedIn the other day, there was a small discussion about HTML5 replacing flash and how it will change the web etc etc. I managed up enough courage to say my spill:

"Just because it is on the decline, doesn't mean that it will disappear. There are still a lot of places that use flash in one form or another, whether it is standalone (air) or web based (flash), actionscript is still great. I think having a background of multiple platforms is really necessary not just for a backup but an all around understanding of programming. I remember when people were using java applets on websites, and some still are, along with flash, and at the same time html5, jquery etc. checkout GaiaOnline to see what I mean. Flash isn't going anywhere, all those great apps on Facebook with millions of people hooked, with flash being the graphic power behind most of them. If html5 gets the audio together and a good solid IDE I will definitely port my flash games as a great way for my Apple friends to see my creations :)"

In "Oh So Random" (Everything Else) News......

Food from one of Our Dinners

Every since January, Keyeske and I have decided to have a big dinner on Fridays, inviting family and friends to come over. We would make all kinds of food, and have a great time sitting at the dinner table, having a great meal around good company. Not many families sit down and eat at the table anymore, let alone cook food in the kitchen. So, we've dedicated every week to try to get that tradition back, and giving back. Every week there is always a different crowd of people, and then there are a few people that come every week, faithfully.

Its so nice, because Keyeske and I don't really get a chance to see and talk to people since we work from home. I would like to do this in a big scale one day, but every little bit helps and makes a difference to many. So, if you ever feel it in your heart to gather your friends and family to sit down and talk like they did in the 1950s, then by all means! As of right now, Keyeske is known to make a very delicious fried rice, and I am known for my cornbread and rolls.... and a lot of other food. Keyeske doesn't cook as much as I do, but he helps me out with the things that I cook. How often do you see couples in the kitchen having fun cooking together? I make a big deal out of it because anyone can do this, cooking is a skill that with continual practice, confidence is almost unavoidable.

We have a few cooking disasters, but we recover well. Keyeske made a cake one time that was stuck to the pan, so it crumbled apart once we got it all out. SO, what he did was scooped them into small balls and added icing on top, calling it "cake balls". They were so good! Last time I was going to fry whiting fish, but the bag of fish was frozen. I thought by putting it in the oven to help thaw the fish would speed up the process, but it did not! It was so soggy and it crumbled apart. SO, I made the whiting like I was going to make salmon cakes, and I called them "whiting cakes". They too, were very good!

Well this wraps up the "oh so random" news. I need to get to work on some of my projects, and checking out what people are talking about on Google+ ^_^

Along with the new games, I figure I might as well keep you posted about other things that we are working on. Of course you know that we are creating games for both online as well as mobile, but we are embarking on a new adventure.

I will also start having some Maidens Merchandise! Coming soon, and I mean very soon, my handmade business (http://www.handmadeforless.com) will start selling handmade items dedicated to Dream-Maidens, Maidens Avatar and Magisoft branding. I am not sure what I will make, but I will definitely keep you posted. With all of this going on, I will have to update the websites very soon. I know I meant to update Dark-Maidens, and Preciousdiva, but I will do my best to get to it by this month.

Hey Everyone!

It has been a while since I've last posted. We are doing our grind of working on the mobile market as well as online. I know, things have been pretty slow in terms of adding games, and restoring our games, but I will definitely get around to it.

We (Keyeske and I) want to wish a Happy Holidays to everyone! Hope you enjoy this joyful time and have great hopes on an awesome new year. Dream-Maidens has been around for 4 years now! WOW!! We aren't going anywhere hon' ^_^ More Games More Games More Games!

Anyways, THIS year has been such a great year. We hope to top this one, and will see to it that we use our experiences to do more in 2012. I want to thank everyone for being around, and still believing in us! It is truly a blessing. I hope I don't well up in tears writing this, but looking back a year ago (or a few months ago) I would have never thought I would see my Christmas wish come true!

You see, just a year ago, my wish was to have everyone from all over the world experience our games without prejudgment. In March 2011, I finally declared that my obstacles of this, will no longer hold me down, and I vowed that once I found a way, I would take it by the reins and leave my obstacles behind.

In April 2011, we made some serious changes and reorganized our plans, and have not looked back since. I am so happy that I did not give up on my Maidens Avatar Creator. It was such a little fish in a big busy, unloving pond. All I needed was to scoop it up, transport it to a small nice, quiet, caring pond.

Actually, after I saw the game eat and live better organically, I then added more of our games in the same environment. If you understand the metaphors, we moved to a different platform in order to expand and fuel our creativity without the "middle man". We are finally direct. Thank you so much for a miracle! 2011 started out pretty rocky, but we are smooth sailing. Our hard work has paid off, and we will always continue on.

There is no rest for the mom and pop, so expect more from us in 2012!!!! I just had to post this, thank you so so so much!!!!!!!!!!!

Today we uploaded our latest game called Fashion Swimsuit Diva Deluxe. It has lots of cool swimsuit designs along with cute accessories and hairstyles. Even though it is getting chilly for most of us, it is still nice to think of the nice warm days of summer. This is also available in the Android Marketplace as well!
