Andy Warhol would have turned 80 today. It's so tragic to think about the life and art he missed out on. And to wonder what would Andy Warhol have done with the Internet, YouTube, Photoshop...reality TV?! The thought of Andy Warhol in the digital age is mind blowing. The world would be a very different place.

Here is an awesome video of Factory footage for The Party, a song by Cleveman and Rössel of legendary Swedish underground band Dom Dummaste (OK, I've never heard of them but they're a new favorite).

Update 8.8.08: It seems Andy Warhol did have a chance to embrace MTV in 1985 before he died with a show called Andy Warhol's Fifteen Minutes. The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh will be showing the pilot and several episodes throughout the weekend starting today.

Also admission today is $0.80 and free if you're 80 years old.

Dog Days in Wine Country

Dog Days of Summer at Mutt Lynch. The winery known for great labels such as “Merlot Over and Play Dead” (above) opens its doors once each year for Dog Days of Summer, Saturday and Sunday August 10 & 11, 2008 in Healdsburg. This annual event includes wine tasting, dog themed art, vendor booths, and great sniffing and hanging out in Alexander Valley. Benefits the Healdsburg Animal Shelter. Dogs on leash welcome.

Dog Days at Trentadue Winery. Just a few miles from Mutt Lynch, the serene and shady grounds of Trentadue are ideal for roaming with your dog. Splash stations to stay cool in between the doggy games, plus food and contests. In Geyserville, Sunday August 10, 2008. $5 per person and per dog. Dogs on leash welcome.

Hot Summer Wine Fest. Westover Winery in Castro Valley throws a Wine-Fest on Sunday August 10. Proceeds from the event, which includes live music and wine tasting, benefit the East Bay SPCA. $35 per car full of up to six animal lovers. Please, no dogs at the event.

Wags, Whiskers and Wine.� Unwind in wine country at the St. Francis Winery & Vineyard on a Friday night, August 15, 2008 and benefit the animals of Sonoma County. This fundraiser for the Humane Society and SPCA of Sonoma County includes a full gourmet dinner, local wines and brews, live music, auctions, and more. The cost is $95-$125 per person, but that’s a bargain for the ambiance and great food and drink. Sorry, no dogs.

Recap: Just Dogs at La Motta Fine Art

Dogs and their owners showed up last Saturday for the opening reception of Just Dogs at La Motta Fine Art in Hartford, CT. As I previously mentioned, several of my collages and my film Dogs in Art are in the show.

Galley owner, Janice La Motta, was very pleased with the reception and noted that there was great range of dog parading in and out all day, surprisingly no duplicate breeds.

The fabulous Monica McLaughlin (no relation as far as we know) of Plans for Pups came in from Manhattan with her two Westies, Missy Paulette and Casey Jane, dressed up for the occasion and took some photos for me, as did fellow artist Jane O'Hara, in from Rhode Island with her husband, artist Gedas Paskauskas.

Gary Steinborn's Venice Clay Dogs grace the window.

KG Studios's K9 Corner

Scottie mosaic for Rebecca Collins.

I went a little Dachshund crazy yesterday. So today I've selected some breeds of some of my readers from the groovy KG Studios in Oakland. This band of four artists working out of a basement corner consists of KG and Peter Greenstein, Allan Dodge and Dave Hill, Sr. They specialize in mosaics, wire work, and Kaleponi Ukuleles.

I confess I have never worked in any of these media, but I know enough to know that making intricate curves out of squares is a true art. And I am duly impressed. Wouldn't you love one of these wonderful works for the bottom of your pool?
