• Visit Bentleys and purchase their reusable bag – proceeds go to Dreams Take Flight.
• Visit Salisbury House on Mondays or Thursdays from February 6 to March 1 and 20% of your total food bill will be contributed to Dreams Take Flight. Download the Fundraising Letter – Dreams Take Flight and take it with you to the restaurant.
• Join us on March 10 at Canadinns Polo Park for the Air Canada Dreams Idol Contest. Contact a committee member to purchase your $25.00 ticket and to make a donation for the silent raffle.
• Purchase a Dreams pendant necklace. This necklace design was inspired in memory of Sandye Swan.
• Use the PayPal link to make a donation to Winnipeg Dreams Take Flight any time of the year.
• Register for the Dream Walk happening on September 8 at Assiniboine Park in memory of Sandye Swan. Registration and donation  information is forthcoming very soon. If you register for the Dream Walk at the Dreams Idol Contest on March 10, your name will be entered for a prize to be announced that evening.

To anyone who dreams of being a star – Energy 106 and Winnipeg Dreams Take Flight are looking to crown the first Dreams Idol winner – March 10, 2012 – and it could be you! Enter Air Canada’s Dreams Idol contest to win your rightful spot on centre stage and a trip for two anywhere Air Canada flies.

There will be a live audition at Grant Park Shopping Center on Saturday, February 4 from 1pm – 4pm. Holly from Energy 106 will take registration information and hand out audition numbers.

You can also register your 2-4 minute audition video from now until February 17. Semi-finalists will be announced on air – February 20. Tell your friends, family, and fan-base to rate your video on Energy106.ca! On February 22, all semi-finalists will receive hair and make-up applications from Tonic and Walter Janzen Photography will do headshots. Semi-finalists will also have the opportunity for 1 practice sessions with professionals.

Semi-finalists will perform LIVE on March 10 at the Canad Inns Polo Park at the Air Canada Dreams Idol Concert!

The March 10 event will feature a celebrity judging panel, plus a unique way to vote for your favourites! Every person who purchases a ticket will receive one vote in exchange for that ticket… but there will also be Gold Stars available to purchase giving you MORE votes! Remember, all proceeds go to support Dreams Take Flight Winnipeg. There will also be some awesome silent raffle prizes, including another trip for two from Air Canada!

At the end of the night the first ever Air Canada Dreams Idol will be crowned! Show us YOUR Energy!

Every year, Winnipeg Dreams Take Flight sends a plane full of deserving children on a one day, once-in-a-lifetime trip to Disney World! Continue reading »]]> Having had the chance to recuperate from the whirlwind adventure at Disney, we want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to [our group leader] and everyone who was involved in making sure a million details were taken care of to make this trip happen successfully.

[Our son] had a blast! As did I.  What was very significant about this experience, beyond the thrill of the rides and sights and sounds, was the way he was matched with 2 other boys his age with cerebral palsy.  In our community, [our son] has no boy like him, and he is always having to keep up with regularly abled peers.  This was the first time he was in a situation of equals, where he didn’t have to explain himself, but just be himself because the others shared the same experience. And in fact, he was the risk taker in his group, and found himself encouraging the others to try the more challenging rides. It was great for his well being and self esteem.  It was very touching to observe this as his Mom, and leaves me misty eyed even as I write this.

Thank you for the memories we will carry in our hearts forever.

Golf Tournaments - For several years the Bronx Oldtimers Hockey Club organized a golf tournament and raised funds for Dreams Take Flight. We appreciate their continued efforts and wish them good golfing in upcoming events. The Doug Dent Memorial Golf Tournament began in June 2005-07 – colleagues, friends and family gathered to raise money for Dreams and have some fun.

Mardi Gras – Feb 2010 – Dreams Take Flight was the sponsored charity on the Friday night event during Mardi Gras Weekend at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Thank you to all who attended to support Dreams Take Flight.

Keewatin and Burrows Safeway – Their charity of choice in January 2008 was Dreams Take Flight and volunteers were there to help out on that day. Thanks for joining us to support Dreams and make special memories for special kids.

50/50 Tickets - Volunteers from Dreams Take Flight sell 50/50 tickets at several concerts and events at the MTS Centre.

Dear Santa: The Shoestring Players – The Shoestring Players presented a play called Dear Santa by Norm Foster at the Forest Nickerson Theatre located in The Deaf Centre – 285 Pembina Highway. The monies collected for the performance on December 6, 2007 were donated to Dreams Take Flight.

Boston Pizza Fishing Derby – All proceeds from this event – Crowduck Lake, Whiteshell Provincial Park on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 – were donated to Dreams Take Flight.

‘Dreams Take Flight’ for Mitchell Girl

A young girl from Mitchell has just returned from the trip of a lifetime.

Twelve year old Kody Kellert has Type 1 Diabetes. As a result she must take multiple needles every day.

Kellert recently qualified for “Dreams Take Flight”, a program that enables children with physical, mental or social challenges to be a child for a day in Disney World. Kellert boarded the plane at 5:00 one morning, spent a full day at Disney World and then arrived back home at 3:00 the next morning. She says they had to race around Disney World just to get all the rides in, and says by the end of the day she was totally exhausted. Kellert says the plane ride was amazing, the whole experience was a lot of fun and says the castle at Disneyworld was really pretty. And today she has some new friends as a result.

As part of “Dreams Take Flight”, Air Canada donates the aircraft, Shell fuels the flight to Orlando, and other businesses donate their services and products. Fundraising takes place throughout the year to cover other expenses. Air Canada employees and members of the community donate their time year round to raise the funds, plan the adventure, and make this a memorable day for the children.
