The participants ranged in age from 20 to 60-plus.
The healthy heart doesn't just contract as it pumps blood. The base of the left ventricle, the chamber that pumps blood to the body, changes its direction of rotation up to six times for each beat.
"The left ventricle doesn't just shorten or get narrower," said Dr. Thomas C. Gerber, associate professor of medicine and radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. "It really twists like a dishrag, a very effective way of getting the blood out."
Clear differences by age and gender emerged from the study, the report said. Among them:
• The rotation speed of the apex of the heart decreases with age. Read more...

ClariMind Memory & Concentration Supplement

Micronutrients Helpful For Heart Failure Patients

Micronutrients helpful for heart failure patients
Researchers find significant improvements in cardiac pumping ability

NEW YORK - Micronutrient supplementation improves heart function and quality-of-life in elderly patients with chronic heart failure, according to a report from investigators in Germany and the UK.

The vitamin story has been confused with studies examining the response to single vitamin supplements in relatively low-risk patients, Dr. Klaus K. A. Witte from Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham, told Reuters Health.

On the other hand, “CHF patients are at higher risk and might have multiple deficiencies. Replacing just one micronutrient might expose deficiency elsewhere (the vitamin E and C interaction, for example), so a combination is important, Witte explained.

He and his and colleagues investigated the effects of long-term multiple micronutrient supplementation in 32 patients older than age 70 years with stable heart failure.

After an average of 295 days, the patients who had been assigned to get micronutrient supplements experienced significant improvements in cardiac pumping ability, the team reports in the European Heart Journal. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Blood-pressure-lowering drugs should be offered to everyone

Yes, this is a real suggestion to treat everyone with BP meds no matter what the BP is!! Drugs carry known risks, yet these researchers feel that the benefits outweigh those risks and if they were the head of NIH or the Surgeon General they would add BP meds to the water for everyone!

I believe we get the effect without the risks by simply using Beyond Chelation-Improved but, of course, natural products cost real money to produce, not pennies per drug. So there is not enough profit in natural approaches to interest anyone in stopping all fatal heart attacks and strokes with BC-I, which we see works deeply by lowering blood viscosity and lowering hypercoagulability tendencies. Read more...

Immunice for Immune Support

Prostate cancer risk linked to a diet high in red and proces

Prostate cancer risk linked to a diet high in red and processed meats
by: John Phillip

Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer and second most common cause of cancer related death in men in the United States. Nearly one in five men will develop the disease during their lifetime. New research demonstrates that increased consumption of ground beef or processed meat is positively associated with aggressive prostate cancer, according to a study published in the journal PLoS ONE. Researchers found a strong correlation between well cooked, grilled or barbequed red meat and processed meats and the development of prostate cancer. Health-minded individuals will want to severely limit and review cooking methods for red and processed meat consumption to limit this prostate cancer risk factor. Read more...

Ayurstate for Prostate Care

Regular Teeth Cleanings Could Cut Heart Attack Risk: Study

(HealthDay News) -- People who visit the dentist regularly to have their teeth cleaned may lower their risk for heart attack or stroke, new research suggests.

The finding is to be presented Sunday at the American Heart Association's annual meeting, in Orlando, Fla.

In following more than 100,000 people with no history of heart problems or stroke for an average of seven years, researchers from Taiwan found those who had their teeth scraped and cleaned by a dentist or dental hygienist at least twice a year for two years had a 24 percent lower risk for heart attack and a 13 percent lower risk for stroke compared to those who never went to the dentist or only went once in two years.

"Protection from heart disease and stroke was more pronounced in participants who got tooth scaling at least once a year," said Dr. Emily (Zu-Yin) Chen, a cardiology fellow at the Veterans General Hospital in Taipei in a news release from the American Heart Association. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Crucial vitamin D discovery: deficiency alters lung growth, harms lung function

Think you've heard everything about vitamin D? As NaturalNews has reported extensively, deficiencies of this amazing health-protective vitamin have been linked to conditions as diverse as breast cancer, hives, weak bones, obesity and more. But now there's yet another discovery showing how important it is to get enough vitamin D through diet, supplements and adequate sunshine exposure. It turns out that vitamin D is crucial to healthy breathing.

Results of a groundbreaking study just published online ahead of the print edition of the American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine concludes a vitamin D deficiency alters lung growth and decreases lung function. Earlier studies have associated severity of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in humans to vitamin D deficiency. But the new research shows a lack of the vitamin can specifically alter lung structure and function -- and it is the first hard evidence linking vitamin D deficiency with deficits in lung function and altered lung structure. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Women's High Blood Sugar Linked to Colorectal Cancer: Study

(HealthDay News) -- There may be a link between high blood sugar levels and an increased risk of colorectal cancer in older women, a new study finds.

Researchers analyzed 12 years of data collected from 5,000 postmenopausal women in the U.S. Women's Health Initiative study. The reason? PPARs regulate the expression of genes that are involved in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, among other functions -- so the theory is that if drugs could control PPARs, the medications would treat diabetes, high cholesterol and even maybe obesity.

But it turns out there's already a substance that could do all this. And it's not a side effect-laden chemical. It's a compound in grapefruit. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Starchy Foods May Boost Risk of Breast Cancer Recurrence

(HealthDay News) -- Increased consumption of carbohydrate-rich foods, especially starches, may boost the risk of breast cancer recurrence, new research finds.

Researcher Jennifer Emond, a public health doctoral student at the University of California, San Diego, looked at changes in the amount of carbohydrates, particularly starchy foods such as potatoes, that breast cancer survivors ate over a one-year period. Then she tracked the number of recurrences.

"Women who increased their carbohydrates and particularly their starch intake had a greater risk of recurrence than the women who decreased [it]," she said.

A link between a high-carb diet and a higher breast cancer risk has been reported before, but this new study focused particularly on starchy carbs, said Emond. She was scheduled to present the findings this week at the 2011 San Antonio Breast Cancer Conference.

Carbohydrates provide needed nutrients and energy, but some carbs are healthier than others. Refined carbohydrates, such as white breads and white pasta, contain more starch than whole grains. Each metabolic syndrome symptom raised the risk of PAD by 20 percent, the study found.

About 8 million Americans have peripheral artery disease, which typically affects the arteries in the pelvis and legs. Symptoms include cramping and pain or tiredness in the hip muscles and legs when walking or climbing stairs, although not everyone who has PAD is symptomatic. The pain usually subsides during rest.

The study also found that women with metabolic syndrome and PAD had higher levels of two markers of inflammation -- high sensitivity C-reactive protein and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1.

The study appears in the Sept. 8 issue of Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Cholesterol Measurements May Be Made Easier

(HealthDay News) -- Methods to gauge blood cholesterol to determine vascular disease risk can be simplified, researchers in England say.

Their method measures levels of either total or high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or "good" cholesterol) in the blood or apolipoproteins (proteins that help transport cholesterol), without the need to have patients fast and without regard to another form of blood fat called triglycerides.

"Expert opinion is divided" on which combination of measurements is ideal in gauging cardiovascular risk, explained John Danesh, of the Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration Coordinating Centre at the University of Cambridge, and colleagues.

In order to examine the association between major blood fats and apolipoproteins and coronary heart disease and ischemic stroke, the researchers analyzed data on more than 300,000 people without initial vascular disease who took part in 68 long-term studies. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

known the main causes of chronic health conditions

Many behavioral risk factors, chief among them smoking, heavy drinking, and obesity, are known the main causes of chronic health conditions. The previous studies showed that the chronic health conditions, like cancer, diabetes, or heart disease, in turn are primary drivers of health care spending, incapacity, and death.

But a recent study found that survivors of breast cancer have a much higher risk of evolving a second breast cancer than women in the common population have of developing a first breast cancer. By contrast, younger alcoholics consume 25 to 35 drinks a week.

Older drinkers are also more likely to binge drink, a term that refers to drinking heavily in one sitting.

"A combination of high levels of drinking and the physiological effects of aging are particularly problematic for older adults," Linda Ginzer, co-author of the study and a doctoral student in social work at Ohio State University, said in a university news release.

The findings were presented Nov. 20 at a meeting in Atlanta of the Gerontological Society of America.

The researchers reached their conclusions after analyzing a national survey of more than 43,000 people taken between 2000 and 2001.

People older than 60 who suffered from alcohol dependency drank in binges an average of 19 times a month, whereas younger people in the same category averaged 13 to 15 binges a month, the study found.Read more...

Immunice for Immune Support

Eating fish found to have benefits that greatly outweigh its

Eating fish found to have benefits that greatly outweigh its risks

By JAMA
Oct 22, 2006 - 2:05:11 AM

Boston, MA Many studies have shown the nutritional benefits of eating fish (finfish or shellfish). Fish is high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids. But concerns have been raised in recent years about chemicals found in fish from environmental pollution, including mercury, PCBs and dioxins. That has led to confusion among the public--do the risks of eating fish outweigh the benefits?

Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) tackled that question by undertaking the single most comprehensive analysis to date of fish and health. In the first review to combine the evidence for major health effects of omega-3 fatty acids, major health risks of mercury, and major health risks of PCBs and dioxins in both adults and infants/young children, the results show that the benefits of eating a modest amount of fish per week--about 3 ounces of farmed salmon or 6 ounces of mackerel--reduced the risk of death from coronary heart disease (CHD) by 36%. Notably, by combining results of randomized clinical trials, the investigators also demonstrated that intake of fish or fish oil reduces total mortality--deaths from any causes--by 17%.

Included with the paper, which appears in the October 18, 2006, issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association, is the first comprehensive summary of levels of omega-3 fatty acids, mercury, PCBs and dioxins in various species of fish and other foods, including chicken, beef, pork, butter and eggs. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Clinical Procedures in Treating Terminally Ill Cancer Patien

Clinical Procedures in Treating Terminally Ill Cancer Patients with Vitamin C
Abram Hoffer, M.D., Ph.D

Let me tell you what I am not. I am not an oncologist, I'm not a pathologist, I'm not a GP, I am a psychiatrist. Therefore you may want to know what a psychiatrist is doing messing about with cancer. I think that's a legitimate question so I'd like to tell you briefly how I got into this very interesting field.

In 1951, 1 was made director of psychiatric research for the Department of Health for the province of Saskatchewan. I didn't really know what to do. I had one major advantage, I think, over my colleagues. I didn't know any psychiatry. You may laugh but that's very important because I didn't have anyone who could tell me what we could not do. The most important problem at that time was the schizophrenias. (They still take up half the hospital beds, and we still don't have an effective treatment Dr. Humphry Osmond and I began to research schizophrenia. We developed the hypothesis that those with schizophrenia were producing a toxic chemical made from adrenalin, adrenochrome. Adrenochrome is an hallucinogen which we felt was producing toxemia, in the sense that the adrenochrome worked on the brain in the same way as LSD. That was our hypothesis. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Poor Diet May Make COPD Worse, Study Finds

(HealthDay News) -- Certain vitamin deficiencies may lead to decreased lung function in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, says a new study.

For the study, 20 COPD patients (13 women, seven men) completed a questionnaire to assess their dietary intake of vitamins A, C, D, E and selenium, all of which contain cell-protecting antioxidants. A diet low in antioxidants -- as compared to national dietary intake requirements -- was common among the patients.

The percentages of deficiencies were: 25 percent (selenium), 45 percent (vitamin C), 90 percent (vitamin E), 55 percent (vitamin A), and 70 percent (vitamin D).

The researchers then measured the maximum amount of air the patients could exhale with force. All the patients with a selenium-deficient diet had decreased lung function. Among patients deficient in vitamins C, A, and D, only men had decreased lung function.

The study was to be presented Tuesday at the annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) in Vancouver, Canada. Read more...

Immunice for Immune Support

Montmorillonite Clay Can Keep Your Skin and Hair Healthy

'In the beginning God gave to every people...a cup of clay; and, from this cup...they drank their life'.

We have long heard of people eating clay known as either 'geophagy' (pronounced...gee-off-uh-gee), or, 'pica'. Taber's Cyclopedia Medical Dictionary defines geophagy as 'a condition in which the patient eats inedible substances such as chalk, or earth'. And, it defines pica as 'a perversion of appetite with cravings for substances not fit for food such as clay, ashes or plaster'.

This craving I perceive is not perverted at all; but, makes sense when you know what clay contains and what it does for the skin. It has been credited with improving the skin of many people suffering from a wide range of challenges. These include: skin ailments such as eczema and acne, dry skin, oily skin, rashes, sores, bruises, skin discoloration or spots on skin, moles, dandruff and even hair-loss, just to name a few.

Clay provides an impressive assortment of minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, sodium and silica -- all alkalizing to the skin and foundational in the production of other elements through nuclear transformations or biological transformations. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Child Emotional Care Influences Genetic Expression

By Cori Young

A growing body of scientific evidence shows that the way babies are cared for by their mothers will determine not only their emotional development, but the biological development of the child's brain and central nervous system as well.

The nature of love, and how the capacity to love develops, has become the subject of scientific study over the last decade. New data is emerging from a multitude of disciplines including neurology, psychology, biology, ethology, anthropology and neurocardiology. Something scientific disciplines find in common when putting love under the microscope is that in addition to shaping the brains of infants, mother's love acts as a template for love itself and has far reaching effects on her child's ability to love throughout life. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Treat cancer - Recent research shows natural combinations boost IV vitamin C

The latest research on high dose, intravenous vitamin C continues to confirm its cytotoxic effects on many cancers in tissue culture models. Results have been so promising that oncologists are now researching the combination of vitamin C with standard chemo drugs. Not surprisingly, vitamin C was found to boost the effectiveness of several chemo drugs so much that two clinical trials have been started. But recent research has also uncovered several natural compounds that boost the cancer-killing effects of vitamin C and may pave the way for highly effective, all-natural combination therapies in the future. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Drug abuse is a social problem, not only criminal

EDITORIAL
Drug abuse is a social problem, not only criminal
The Nation

Police scheme to label neighborhoods and communities as 'clean' of drugs could backfire if wider factors such as education, poverty and job opportunities are not considered

Thailand's "war on drugs" is taking an interesting turn that could be aimed at attracting the participation of local communities through initiatives that, to some extent, resemble a blame-and-shame tactic.

Under this scheme, the police would put up a sign in a community designating it as "clean and white", or drug free. But if any one member of the community - who may or may not live there, but is registered at an address in the community - is found guilty on any illicit-drugs charge, then the sign would be removed.

On the surface, it sounds like a good idea - empowering local residents with some degree of incentive to police or look after their own. But given the rigidity of our house-registration system, it would be unfair to hold the entire community responsible for the actions of a convicted or alleged drug-user or dealer who is registered in the community but may not necessarily live there. Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification

Food Prep May Be as Important as Ingredients Themselves

(HealthDay News) -- The methods used to produce or cook food may have as much impact on your health as the actual food, U.S. researchers report.

Grilled, fried or broiled animal products such as meats and cheeses contain a class of toxins called "advanced glycation end products" (AGEs), which have been linked to inflammation, insulin resistance, diabetes, vascular and kidney disease, and Alzheimer's disease, say a team from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

AGEs are also produced when food products are sterilized and pasteurized.

In a new study, the Mount Sinai researchers found that healthy people can have elevated levels of AGEs in their blood and that levels tend to be higher in older adults than in younger adults.

The study of 172 healthy men and women, ages 18-45 and ages 60-80, found that AGE levels were 35 percent higher in participants age 64 and older than in those younger than age 45.

Overall, the higher the participants' consumption of foods rich in AGEs, the higher their blood levels of AGEs and the higher their levels of C-reactive protein and other biomarkers of inflammation. Read more...

Immunice for Immune Support

Nuts: an important component of an anti-diabetes diet

Joel Fuhrman, M.D.

Complications from diabetes result from constant elevations in blood glucose, which damage the blood vessels and other tissues. Excess glucose in the bloodstream results in the formation of Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) – products formed when sugars react with and consequently damage proteins or fats in the body’s tissues, especially the blood vessels. AGEs are produced at an accelerated rate in diabetics and contribute to complications such as impaired wound healing, diabetic nephropathy, and atherosclerosis.1-4 In addition to the AGE produced in the body due to excess glucose, some can also come from the diet. Fried foods, meats, and dry cooked starchy foods (roasted/fried potatoes, bread, crackers, cookies, muffins and other baked goods, cold cereals, etc.) are high in AGEs.5,6 Read more...

AyurGold for Healthy Blood

Who Should Get a CT Scan to Screen for Lung Cancer?

(HealthDay News) -- Annual low-dose CT scans cut the death rate from lung cancer by 20 percent in heavy smokers and formerly heavy smokers, compared to those who get annual chest X-rays, according to the results of a major National Cancer Institute study released on Wednesday.

Experts are calling the findings a major advance in efforts to combat lung cancer deaths. By catching the cancer early, the tumors can be removed surgically -- hopefully before they've spread and become very difficult to cure.

"This is a momentous time in the history of public health research," said Dr. Otis Brawley, chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society. "The NLST [National Lung Screening Trial] is the best-designed and best-performed lung cancer screening study in history."

Yet the findings raise as many questions as they answer, said Dr. Harold Sox, a professor emeritus of medicine at Dartmouth Medical School who wrote an accompanying editorial to the study published in the June 30 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. Read more...

Cardiofy Heart Care Supplement

Cancer industry desperately needs mammogram screenings to recruit patients and generate repeat business

(NaturalNews) Any time you threaten to take away repeat customer from the businesses that make up the cancer industry, you're in for a political fight. After the United States Preventive Services Task Force released new recommendations advising against mammograms for women under 50 (and recommending only bi-annual screenings after that), the cancer industry went berserk.

Mammograms, you see, are the bread and butter of the for-profit cancer industry. They serve two very important purposes:

Purpose #1: RECRUIT patients. Mammograms are a clever tool for recruiting patients into a highly-profitable regimen of chemotherapy drugs, radiation and surgery that, nine times out of ten, isn't even medically justified. How's that? Because the detection technology behind mammograms is now so advanced it can detect tiny tumors present in virtually everyone, whether they're dangerous or not. This has lead to a huge increase in "false positives" and dangerous over-treatment of cancers that would be better off just left alone (or treated with anti-cancer nutrients and superfoods). Read more...

Ayurtox for Body Detoxification
