Generally, the best place to start is with a sample pack of both diapers and liners. As you know babies come in all shapes and sizes, as do diapers. What works for one baby, may not fit another quite as well. Therefore, what one mom raves about another may not care for.

Cloth diapering is very much a personal choice. It’s so important to actually try a few diapers on your baby to see what fits baby the best, and of course what you prefer to use.

Are you worried about putting together a sample package, when you have no idea what suits you yet?

First let’s narrow it down by thinking about your main concerns.

You’ve decided you don’t want to use pins or fasteners?

No problem, you’ll most likely be better off with a fitted diaper or an All-in-One.

Is cost a primary concern?

Chinese Prefold are very inexpensive, and they often work great for many families. It is not necessary to use pins or fasteners with Chinese Prefolds, you may choose to use a hook&loop or snap closing diaper cover to hold the diaper on. 

Another economical alternative may be a one-size diaper. Although they are a fairly large initial expense you will save over the long run, by not having to buy new sizes as your baby grows.

Baby will be left with a lot of sitters?

Even sitters and grandpa find an AIO (all-in-one) diaper easy to use.

Is your Baby a Heavy Wetter?

Some babies soak through even the mose absorbent of diapers, especially overnight! Consider using diaper doublers or liners to add absorbency without adding too much bulk (or expense).

How about those covers?

My rule of thumb was – NO OVER-KILL!

If I was using an inexpensive diaper that needed a cover to help keep it on I went with a more expensive and well fitting cover to keep it all in place.  Example –> Chinese Prefold + Dri-Line Snap to Fit (one size fits all).

If I was using a fitted very absorbent diaper, I often used just a pull-on style cover. Example –> Bamboo Baby + Side Snap Pants

I always kept several AIO’s on hand for outings, sitters and just because …
