Elon Musk’s companies are known to do business with one another. According to a company filing, Tesla accrued up to $573 million in revenue from SpaceX and xAI alone in 2025.

The original 2025 annual filing stated that most of the income (about $430 million) came from xAI, which is Musk’s AI-focused company. Later, in an amended filing, Tesla reported an additional $143.3 million in proceeds from SpaceX.

SpaceX is one of the biggest buyers of the Cybertruck. The space exploration company has been swapping its gas-powered trucks for battery-powered units since October 2025. By purchasing the electric truck from its sister company, SpaceX has been helping to prop up the stainless-steel automobile.

Bloomberg, citing new vehicle registration data for the last quarter of 2025, reported that SpaceX bought 1,279 Cybertrucks from Tesla. This purchase represented more than 18 percent of US sales in that quarter and was worth more than $100 million.

Analysts estimate that Musk-affiliated entities bought more than 200 Cybertrucks in the first two months of 2026.

Other instances of business dealings between Musk’s companies include xAI procuring Megapack energy storage batteries from Tesla. The EV maker’s latest filing revealed that more than $78 million in revenue came from xAI as of February 2026.

Tesla has integrated xAI’s Grok chatbot in its vehicles. Meanwhile, X incorporated the chatbot on its social media platform before being absorbed by the AI company in March 2025. Blurring the lines even further, SpaceX recently acquired xAI, and the resulting behemoth is planning to launch the biggest initial public offering (IPO) later in 2026.

SpaceX is also jointly producing chips with Tesla.

It is no secret that the Tesla Cybertruck is not selling as fast as the company wanted. However, just how poor sales were for the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version before it was discontinued have been revealed by a recent recall action.

Earlier this week we reported that Tesla was recalling the Cybertruck. According to Tesla, stud holes in the brake rotors may crack, especially under intense use such as rough roads or sharp turns. This could cause the wheel stud to detach from the hub, potentially leading to a crash.

Tesla claims there has been no accident or injuries traceable to the potential fault. However, the interesting part of the recall process is the number of units involved.

According to the documentation, the brake problem affects Cybertrucks of a specific configuration: the RWD version, which Tesla released about a year ago, before discontinuing it due to what was believed to be low sales. Tesla does not state the number of Cybertrucks delivered in quarterly reports. The figure is usually lumped with “other models”, which includes the soon-to-be-discontinued Model S and Model X.

The recall notice states that only 173 Cybertrucks need to be brought in, meaning the company only sold 173 units of this variant.

The model, which cost about $10,000 less than the base All-Wheel Drive (AWD) but lacked many of the core features, was meant to be the affordable Cybertruck. Selling only 173 units for the configuration is a poor record for an electric vehicle with as much visibility. It is no wonder that Tesla has discontinued sales of the version after just a few months.

The State of California has made significant changes to the autonomous vehicle landscape through Assembly Bill No. 1777.

The first is that state lawmakers have closed a loophole that prevented driverless vehicles from being issued citations. The previous legislation stated that the person behind the wheel would be liable for a violation, but officers could not issue a ticket to a driverless vehicle. Now, a robotaxi can be issued a notice of non-compliance, and the manufacturer will be responsible for paying the ticket.

To keep companies responsible, the new law will force manufacturers to report the citation within 72 hours. Failure to do so empowers the California Department of Motor Vehicles to impose stricter sanctions, including capping fleet sizes and suspending permits for repeat offenders.

In addition, lawmakers have given first responders greater control over robotaxis, allowing them to move vehicles obstructing fire and rescue operations. The legislation requires vehicles to respond to first responders’ commands and will use a variety of tech to do so, including geofencing to prevent driverless vehicles from approaching live operations.

The other major change that lawmakers made is that the state has lifted the ban on heavy-duty autonomous trucks. To be road-certified, vehicles weighing more than 10,001 lbs and medium-sized trucks weighing over 14,001 pounds will need to undergo 500,000 miles of testing with a human driver on board. Once completed, the vehicles can then move to fully driverless operations.

Tesla has made a significant move in Canada, reopening orders for the Model 3 with dramatically reduced pricing.

The low prices are thanks to Tesla shifting its supply strategy and now importing Model 3 units from Giga Shanghai.

The headline grabber is the Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), which starts at just $39,490.

That price positions it as one of the most affordable EVs, especially considering its 463 km of range and 4.2s sprint to 100km/h.

However, because these vehicles are built in China, they do not qualify for Canada’s federal EVAP rebate program.

It is worth reiterating this is the Premium variant, and not the stripped-down Standard version of the electric sedan Tesla introduced last year.

At the other end of the lineup, the Model 3 Performance is now listed at $74,990. Previously this variant was priced at $89,990 when it was sourced from the U.S. and subject to tariffs.

With the update, Tesla has also removed the Premium Long Range Model 3 from its lineup in Canada. Previously this vehicle was priced at $79,990 before it was removed.

Buyers won’t have to wait long with the first customer deliveries expected as early as May or June.

The return of Shanghai-built units comes after Tesla faced challenges selling U.S.-built vehicles in Canada with inflated prices due to tariffs. By pivoting back to China production—something it has done before—Tesla is once again able to maintain supply while keeping prices in check.

For Canadian buyers, the timing couldn’t be better. With rising fuel prices and renewed interest in electric vehicles, a sub-$40,000 Model 3—even without incentives—could drive strong demand. The Premium RWD is a high-value option for buyers looking to enter the Tesla ecosystem without stretching into higher trims.

The Tesla Semi is finally hitting production at just the right moment. As Tesla begins high-volume production of its long-awaited electric truck this week, a generous new incentive program in Washington State also launched this week, slashing the price by US$175,000, turning what was a costly investment into a surprisingly affordable option for fleet operators.

Tesla Semi pricing meets major state incentives

As we have previously reported, Tesla’s Semi is priced at approximately US$290,000 for the Long Range (500-mile) variant, and around $260,000 for the Standard Range (325-mile) version. On paper, that still represents a significant upfront investment compared to diesel alternatives.

However, Washington’s newly launched Zero-Emission Incentive Program (WAZIP) changes the buying decision entirely.

The program offers rebates of up to US$175,000 for Class 8 electric trucks. Unfortunately only the Long Range version of the Tesla Semi is currently included in the program’s approved vehicle catalog, meaning it qualifies for the full rebate at the time of purchase.

With the Washington State rebate applied, that brings the Long Range Semi’s effective price down to just US$115,000.

At those levels, the Tesla Semi significantly undercuts the cost of new diesel Class 8 trucks, which average around US$175,000, while offering significantly lower operating expenses over time.

Overtaking diesel

Upfront cost has long been the biggest hurdle for fleet electrification. While electric trucks typically offer lower fuel and maintenance costs, the initial purchase price has typically been higher, hampering adoption.

Programs like WAZIP are designed specifically to eliminate that barrier. Funded through Washington’s Climate Commitment Act, the $112 million initiative provides instant point-of-sale discounts, making it easier for businesses to justify the switch.

For operators dealing with the current high diesel prices and tightening emissions regulations, the math is quickly shifting. With fuel savings, reduced maintenance, and now six-figure incentives, the total cost of ownership makes opting for the Semi almost a no-brainer.

Perfect timing for Tesla

The introduction of the rebate program comes at the perfect time for Tesla. Just this week the company announced it had started production on its high-volume line in Nevada. At capacity, the new facility will be able to produce 50,000 Semi trucks annually.

After nearly a decade of delays, Tesla is finally in a position to deliver trucks at scale, and buyers in Washington State now have a financial incentive that slashes its price by more than half.

New registration figures indicate Tesla posted significant year-over-year gains in countries including France, Denmark, and the Netherlands. In Denmark, registrations more than doubled, rising 102% compared to April 2025. France saw an even larger jump at 112%, while the Netherlands recorded a more modest—but still notable—23% increase.
The results build on Tesla’s solid Q1 performance, where deliveries across Europe climbed nearly 45% year-over-year to more than 78,000 units. That rebound followed a challenging 2025, when the company experienced a nearly 27% decline in regional sales.

Driving the rebound in sales has been the Model Y, which surged to become Europe’s best-selling vehicle in March before finishing second overall for the quarter. The Model 3 has also contributed, with improved availability and steady demand helping lift Tesla’s overall performance.

Tesla’s resurgence comes as electric vehicle (EV) adoption across Europe continues to accelerate, with more than 723,000 EVs registered in Q1 2026—a 26% increase from the same period last year. EVs now make up over 20% of all new vehicle sales in the region, supported by government incentives and rising fuel costs.

Those fuel costs have become an increasingly important factor in recent months. Since late February, geopolitical tensions have pushed gas prices higher across Europe, prompting more consumers to consider electric alternatives. That shift has helped drive renewed interest in both new and used EVs, benefiting Tesla alongside its competitors.

Tesla also received a regulatory boost in April. The Dutch vehicle authority, RDW, approved the use of FSD, and has notified the European Commission of its intention to pursue broader EU approval, which could further boost sales.

T-Mobile has quietly expanded its satellite-to-phone offering, allowing customers to access Starlink connectivity while travelling internationally. According to an update on the company’s support page, T-Mobile subscribers can now roam in Canada and New Zealand using its T-Satellite service.

The move is the first major international expansion for T-Mobile’s Starlink-powered system, which until now had been limited to the continental U.S., along with Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and parts of Alaska. With the update, T-Mobile says its satellite network now works “in places towers can’t reach, including Canada and New Zealand.” (via PC Mag)

The cross-border functionality is made possible through partnerships with Rogers in Canada and One NZ in New Zealand. Both carriers already work with SpaceX on satellite-to-mobile connectivity.

“We are collaborating with our global roaming partners and SpaceX to offer T-Satellite to our customers traveling in even more places,” the company noted on its support page.

The move to allow roaming in Canada follow a recent expansion from Rogers, which earlier this year enabled its own Starlink-powered service to roam into the United States through T-Mobile. That rollout gave Canadian customers access to satellite connectivity south of the border when outside traditional network coverage, and now T-Mobile is effectively returning the favour by extending similar functionality to its subscribers travelling in Canada.

Like Rogers’ implementation, T-Satellite automatically activates when a device moves outside the reach of traditional cell towers. Once connected, users can send text messages, access select apps, and even place voice or video calls through supported platforms like WhatsApp and Messenger. The service is particularly useful in remote areas such as national parks, rural highways, and backcountry destinations where coverage has historically been unreliable or nonexistent.

Lakeland is boosting its electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Ontario with a sizeable expansion beyond major urban corridors.

The company, part of Lakeland Solutions, announced this week plans to add 17 new charging sites across central Ontario, including Haliburton and Barry’s Bay, significantly increasing coverage in a region known for its mix of small towns, cottage country, and tourism-driven travel.

The expansion will see 50 new charging posts added, including 26 dual-port DC fast chargers capable of delivering up to 180kW. According to the company, these units can add roughly 100 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes. Lakeland also hinted at future upgrades, noting that even faster 240kW chargers will begin rolling out later this year.

Once complete, Lakeland’s network is expected to grow to 33 stations in Ontario by fall 2026.

Beyond simply adding hardware, Lakeland is making changes aimed at improving the overall user experience. One of the most notable updates is a shift away from time-based pricing toward energy-based billing. With approval from Measurement Canada, drivers will now pay per kilowatt-hour (kWh) rather than per minute, a move the company says is intended to create a more “fair” and transparent charging model—especially important as charging speeds can vary between vehicles.

The company is also adding credit card “tap-and-go” functionality, which is currently being installed across its fast-charging network. While Lakeland still offers its own mobile app for frequent users, this will allow drivers to plug in and pay without needing to download an app.

This expansion was funded in part by nearly $2 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). Construction tied to this funding is expected to continue through 2027.

Tesla has introduced another piece of its commercial charging strategy—the Basecharger, a lower-power solution designed for fleets with longer dwell times.

While the Megacharger focuses on speed, the Basecharger is built for efficiency and flexibility, targeting depots, warehouses, and overnight charging scenarios for the Tesla Semi.

Tesla unveiled the Basecharger as part of the launch of its Semi Charging for Business program after the class 8 electric truck entered high-volume production this week after nearly a decade of delays.

A different approach to charging hardware

One of the most notable aspects of the Basecharger is its design. Unlike the Megacharger, which relies on a large external cabinet, the Basecharger integrates its power electronics directly into the charging post itself.

According to Tesla, this was made possible by adapting technology from its latest V4 Supercharger architecture.

“Although it looks just like a V4 post, the Basecharger doesn’t have a cabinet at all. We were able to put one of the 16 trays from the V4 cabinet inside the post,” said Max de Zegher.

Lower costs and improved flexibility

Tesla says the Basecharger is designed with economics in mind—an important factor for fleet operators evaluating the switch to electric.

By eliminating the need for a separate cabinet and leveraging existing manufacturing processes, the company can reduce both upfront costs and installation timelines. The system also supports open communication standards and optional payment terminals, making it adaptable for both private and semi-public use.

Tesla says up to 3 Basechargers can be daisy-chained on a single breaker to further reduce installation and operational costs.

Same ecosystem, different use case

Despite its lower power output, delivering up to 125 kW of power, the Basecharger can still add approximately 60% of range in about four hours—making it ideal for trucks parked between shifts or during extended loading periods.

The Basecharger also integrates into Tesla’s broader charging ecosystem. That includes over-the-air updates, remote monitoring, and the same software platform used across Tesla’s charging network.

Businesses can manage pricing, track usage, and monitor performance through Tesla’s portal, while the company handles service and maintenance to ensure consistent uptime.

Complementing the Megacharger network

Rather than replacing Megachargers, the Basecharger is designed to complement them. Together, the two solutions cover a wide range of use cases—from high-speed highway charging to slower, more cost-effective depot charging.

With production of the Semi finally underway and deliveries of the Basecharger expected to begin in early 2027, Tesla is clearly building out a comprehensive charging strategy for heavy-duty transport.

Tesla has officially launched a new “Semi Charging for Business” program that allows companies to install charging infrastructure for their heavy-duty trucks at their own sites. The move mirrors Tesla’s earlier strategy with passenger vehicles and their “Supercharger for Business” program, and comes after the class 8 electric truck finally entered high-volume production this week.

As part of the announcement, Tesla also unveiled a new, smaller ‘Basecharger‘ for Semi, which forms part of the program alongside the existing Megacharger.

Built for high-throughput trucking

Tesla’s new offering is aimed at logistics companies, fleet operators, and even fuel retailers looking to support the transition to electric trucking. Businesses can purchase and install Megacharger stations directly, with Tesla providing the hardware, software, and ongoing service support.

Much like its Supercharger network, Tesla is leaning heavily on vertical integration. That includes in-house power electronics, software, and network operations, all designed to simplify deployment while maintaining reliability.

The Megacharger system uses a centralized cabinet capable of delivering up to 1.2 MW shared across two charging posts, capable of adding up to 60% of range in just 30 minutes. Tesla says the system achieves more than 96% efficiency, while its liquid-cooled design eliminates the need for complex ventilation systems.

Then there’s the new Basecharger, designed for locations where trucks are parked for longer periods. Delivering up to 125 kW of power, the Basecharger is a standalone unit and can add roughly 60% of range in about 4 hours, making it ideal for depots, warehouses, and overnight fleet operations.

Tesla says initial deliveries of Basecharger equipment are expected to begin in early 2027, while Megachargers are available immediately.

Full-service model with high uptime

Tesla is positioning Megacharger for Business as a turnkey solution. Site hosts can monitor performance, set pricing, and track utilization through a dedicated management portal, while Tesla handles maintenance, diagnostics, and driver support.

The company says it can guarantee uptime of 97% or higher, supported by over-the-air (OTA) updates and real-time monitoring, just like how it manages its global Supercharger network.

Pricing and deployment details revealed

Alongside the launch, Tesla has also provided the first look at pricing for its Semi charging solutions.

For high-speed charging, a Megacharger setup starts at US$188,000 for a configuration that includes one cabinet and two charging posts. That total breaks down to US$179,000 for the hardware, plus US$6,000 in services and US$3,000 in shipping, with taxes and installation costs not included.

Tesla says larger deployments are supported, with businesses able to scale up to as many as 100 Megacharger posts, bringing total hardware costs into the multi-million dollar range.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Basecharger offers a significantly lower-cost entry point. A two-unit setup starts at around US$40,000, including US$31,000 for the chargers themselves, plus the same US$6,000 service fee and US$3,000 shipping cost.

Growing interest in electric trucking infrastructure

The launch comes as interest in electric trucking infrastructure begins to accelerate. Tesla Charging director Max de Zegher noted that, unlike the early days of passenger EV charging, companies are now actively looking to invest in heavy-duty charging solutions.

“We’ll be building out Megachargers either way, but if other companies are investing in private or public Semi charging, consider doing it with the very best hardware, software & service,” he said.
