      <description>http://www2.godanriver.com/news/2011/nov/07/great-care-drmc-ar-1441232/
In September, my husband, Willie Watson, went to Danville Regional Medical Center for a heart cauterization and what we hoped would be no more than an overnight stay.

The results were not what we wanted to hear, and he was immediately admitted to the hospital to await open-heart surgery.

We want to thank the doctors, nurses, clinical assistants, housekeeping staff, and anyone else at Danville Regional Medical Center who provided wonderful care for Willie before, during and after his surgery.

Everyone that we had contact with from the day he was admitted until his discharge a week later was professional, kind and caring. We are especially appreciative to Dr. Miller and the cath lab nurses, Dr. Sweezer and his team, the nursing staff on 6A and the ICU staff. We do not believe he could have received better care at any other hospital.

We are blessed to have a local hospital staffed with individuals who show genuine care for their patients as well as the patients’ families.

Thank you, DRMC! You have been and continue to be our hospital of choice.

CONNIE WATSON

My husband, Walter Hodges, had surgery on Aug. 26 at Danville Regional Medical Center. It was a very serious surgery and even with today’s technology, I was nervous.

However, my tension was greatly decreased from the minute we walked in the main entrance until we left two days later. Every associate that I saw would smile and say “hello.” All associates in every department were great. I would like to name each one, but I can’t remember all of their names.

The nursing staff on 2A is the very best, including Linda Gauldin, Sharronda Carter-Poole, Ms. Ashby and Harry Poteat. I felt very comfortable going home at night with Walter under their care. Other associates who were very attentive were Carolyn Scruggs, Betty Holley and Charles Guill. One more very special person was Dr. Leon Abram.

Danville and Danville Regional Medical Center are so blessed to have him. He was caring and compassionate and because of his surgical ability, Walter’s quality of life has improved 100 percent.

I want to thank Danville Regional Medical Center for the professional care I received after I suffered a fall Sept. 1.

The Emergency Department, ICU, operating room and all of the medical staff were exceptional. Also thanks to Dr. Leon Abrams and the surgical crew for repairing my broken neck.

We don’t always appreciate the health care we have in Danville until it’s needed.

To the editor:

On June 7, I was discharged from a two-night stay at Danville Regional Medical Center - my second stay in a hospital in 77 years. I feel compelled to express my gratitude about the fantastic treatment I received!

I entered the emergency department two nights earlier. I was attended to immediately. The hospital had no available rooms; therefore, I had to stay in an emergency department bed all night. The staff was extremely busy all night - in fact, they were literally running to help people. Amid all this activity, they were constantly checking on my condition. Every doctor, nurse, technician, housekeeper - everyone - treated me with respect and dignity.

The next morning, I was transferred to a room. Everyone I came into contact with treated me as if I were the most important priority. The people who attended to me are precious human beings who work hard and have their own problems. I do hope they will read this and know that I respect and admire them.

To the editor:

First of all, my husband, the Rev. Rudy Robinson, of Bassett, and I would like to give thanks and praise to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for his mercy and healing power.

On April 7, my husband had a heart catheterization at Danville Regional Medical Center by Dr. Miller. The following Monday, he had a triple bypass surgery at the Duke Heart &amp;amp; Vascular Center at Danville Regional Medical Center by Dr. Sweezer.

Dr. Miller and the nursing staff took excellent care of my husband regarding the catheterization procedure and other test that was taken care of while he was there, so he did not have to come back prior to the bypass surgery.

Our family was very impressed with the professional and compassionate manner Dr. Miller, Dr. Sweezer and their staff showed during this time. The surgery and recovery time has been beyond our expectations. Dr. Sweezer took time to talk with the family and explain what he would be doing during the surgery and kept us posted every 90 minutes as to how my husband was getting along. The nursing staff in CCU was polite, professional and very compassionate as well as knowledgeable in what they were doing. We could not have asked for better care anywhere than what he received at Danville Regional.

We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Miller, Dr. Sweezer, the nurses in the heart catheterization department - Brian Compton, Stephanie, Angela, David and all the other team members in CCU. You did a wonderful job and we will always be indebted to you for your kindness and expertise.

My husband and I have had surgery at Wake Forest and University of Virginia in years past. The care in those great hospitals was excellent but it did not exceed what we experienced at Danville Regional. Thank you, Danville Regional, for a great medical experience in our time of need.

To the editor:

It has been many years since I had an accident that took me to the hospital, but it happened twice in April.

After one accident, I ended up in the Emergency Department and then I went to Outpatient Services on three separate days for shots. The second accident sent me to One-Day Surgery. I could not have been treated better. Every person I met with in every department was kind and courteous, as well as being well trained and very proficient at their jobs.

I can only say, “Thank you, Danville Regional, for jobs well done and for excellent results.”

Recently, I was a patient at Danville Regional Medical Center. After being taken to the Emergency Department, my medical needs were attended to immediately by a competent and efficient staff that provided me with excellent care.

I was taken to Cardiac Care and placed under the care of Drs. Bosh Zakhary, Stephen Baldwin and Fielding Fitzpatrick.

My thanks go out to these doctors and the nurses for the outstanding care given to me while I was in the hospital. Because of such good experience, I would strongly recommend DRMC to anyone who needs medical assistance.

I recently had open-heart surgery at Danville Regional Medical Center, where I received excellent care. I was treated with the best of care from the time I walked into the Emergency Department until the day I went home, which was 15 days later.

Everyone was so nice and attentive, down to the housekeeping. Everyone was always trying to make sure I had what I needed. I was unsure about going to our local hospital for care, but after this visit, Danville Regional will be my hospital from now on. Please give them a chance and stop listening to the horror stories. I cannot praise the hospital staff, Emergency Department staff and all of the doctors enough.

I recently had a knee replacement at Danville Regional Medical Center, where I received excellent care from the time I entered the hospital and was prepped for surgery through my discharge three days later.

Without exception, the nurses in one-day surgery and in holding as well as my surgeon were professional and caring and put me at ease. After surgery I was a patient on 2A for three days. The nurses and CNAs were attentive and compassionate in attending to me. The physical therapist was kind and comforting while working with me. I received top-notch care from everyone.

My stay in DRMC could not have been better. Everyone worked hard to make my stay as comfortable as possible for my husband, as well as for me. I am grateful for Danville Regional Medical Center and its professional and caring staff.

To the editor:

Recently I underwent surgery at Danville Regional Medical Center’s one-day surgical facility. Kudos to DRMC’s staff for their outstanding service and special thanks to Dr. Samuel Meadema and his staff at Danville ENT.

Over the years I have experienced or have been with love ones who have had to use a medical facility. Those experiences have given me a basis for making comparsions. My view is that the facilities and personnel at both Danville ENT and Danville Regional are first-rate and staff members are extremely patient oriented.

Given the past battles within our community on the demise of our hospital, let me urge each of you to give them a chance. I did and was very pleased with the results and will gladly use them again if needed. Thanks to everyone who provided me top-notch care!
