Legacy PACE Drivers (iLok) crashes and BSOD Windows 10, couldn't install Avid Media Composer v8.x (RESOLVED)

Hey all,

I want to share with you my nightmare experience attempting to install Avid MC 8.5.3 on my new Windows 10 machine, and share the solution I found

I couldn't install Avid MC v8.x on my Windows 10 workstation due to MC forcing me to install an outdated and unsupported PACE Driverst. Every time I would run the Avid MC installer, when it asked for a reboot after the install completed, my computer would not boot back up. It would repeatedly crash on the "dots spinning in a circle" startup screen, turn into "attempting repairs," and then bring me to the boot recovery menu.

After some experimenting I found the culprit: I began the installation of Avid MC only to where it installs Legacy PACE Drivers, and didn't actually install Avid MC v8.x. It asked me for a reboot and then the same crash sequence happened.

This told me that Legacy PACE Drivers was the cause of the crashing. The problem was that Avid MC v8.x installation was attempting to force the install of the legacy "interlok driver" software (which is the legacy component of PACE License Support) for some reason. I found out that "InterLok Driver Setup Win64" was the culprit of the issue.

The Avid MC v8.x install would tell me "Avid requires the following software to be installed before proceeding" and lists "PACE License support".

I finally reached a solution! When MC v8.x prompted the install of PACE License Support (as it always did, even though the newest version already installed), I clicked install, as I was always forced to do in order to continue. But, when Windows 10's action center popped up, asking if I trust the developer and wanted to install the software, I hit DON'T INSTALL.

The Avid MC v8.x install software did not error out and continued on as normal, allowing me to install MC v8.x!

Then tested Avid Media Composer 8.5.3 and everything runs as it should.

MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is the largest packet a network device transmits. The best MTU setting for NETGEAR equipment is often just the default value. MTU is sometimes presented as something that can be easily changed to improve performance, but in practice this may cause problems. Leave MTU unchanged unless:

You have problems connecting to your ISP, or other Internet service, and either the technical support of the ISP or of NETGAER recommends changing MTU. These may require an MTU change:
- A secure Web site that won't open, or only displays part of a Web page
- Yahoo email
- MSN
- AOL's DSL service
You use VPN, and have severe performance problems.
You used a program to "optimize" MTU for performance reasons, and now you have connectivity or performance problems.

An easy solution to most problems is to change MTU to 1400.
If you are willing to experiment, gradually reduce MTU as described in "Details of MTU", below.

How to Change a Computer's MTU

Note: If you change MTU on one computer, change it on your other computers, switches, and routers, as well. Instructions for changing MTU on other NETGEAR devices is found in the Reference Manuals, in the sections explaining Advanced Features.

The third party Dr. TCP software can be used to change the MTU setting.

Download it from this link, choosing the zip file or the exe file at the top of the page.
Run the utility.
In the Adapter Settings pull down, select the Ethernet driver and adapter used to connect with the network.
In the MTU box, type the MTU size you are trying.
Click in any other box, without changing the data there.
Click Save.
Click Exit.
Restart the computer.

Details About MTU

A packet sent to a device larger than its MTU is broken into pieces. Ideally, MTU would be set to the same — large — value on all your computers, routers and switches, as well as on all the parts of the Internet that you access. But you cannot control the MTU on the Internet, and in practice the optimum MTU size on your LAN is related to your hardware, software, wireless interference, etc.

Tweaking MTU size may work well in one situation, but cause performance and connection problems in others.
When network devices with different MTU settings communicate, packets are fragmented to accommodate the one with the smallest MTU.
Windows XP sets MTU automatically, that is, it optimizes computer MTU for you. This Microsoft article explains resolving lack of connection to a broadband ISP using Windows XP: How-To Configure Broadband Connections Using PPPoE.
Once a network device fragments a packet, the data stays fragmented until arriving at the destination computer.

Setting MTU size is a process of trial-and-error: start with the maximum value of 1500, then reduce the size until the problem goes away. Using one of these values is likely to solve problems caused by MTU size:

1500. The largest Ethernet packet size; it is also the default value. This is the typical setting for non-PPPoE, non-VPN connections. The default value for NETGEAR routers, adapters and switches.
1492. The size PPPoE prefers.
1472. Maximum size to use for pinging. (Bigger packets are fragmented.)
1468. The size DHCP prefers.
1460. Usable by AOL if you don't have large email attachments, etc.
1430. The size VPN and PPTP prefer.
1400. Maximum size for AOL DSL.
576. Typical value to connect to dial-up ISPs.

The first Navagraha temple is the Suryanar Koyil. It is situated in the small village called Tirumangalakkudi of Tamil Nadu. Thirumangalakudi is located just one Kilometer north of Aduthurai, which lies in between Kumbakonam (15.km) and Mayiladuthurai(20.km) on the bus route as well as Train route. Devotees visit this temple to offer remedies for the bad effects of the sun and all other planets. It is an exclusive shrine dedicated to the Sun God and was built during the Chola period. Pilgrims worship Lord Siva – Sri Prananathar and Goddess Sri Mangalambigai at Thirumangalakudi and then go to Suriyanarkoil to worship Navagrahas. In Suriyanarkoil the sun is the main deity and other grahas are installed in separate sanctums.

The fourth Navagraha sthalas is in Tiruvenkadu. It is situated near Mayavaram @ Mayiladudurai, which is special to Budhan (Mercury). The very big Siva temple here is called the Swetaranyeswarar temple and it is famous for its shrine dedicated to Mercury (Budhan).

This place can be reached by bus from Mayiladuthurai (25km) and from Sirkali (15km).Lord Nataraja has a special seperate sanctum as in Chidambaram. The special deity of this temple is Sri Ahoramurthy (one of the forms of Lord Siva).

The Siva temple at Alangudi near Kumbakonam is the fifth of the Navagraha temple. It is known as the Abatsakayar temple. Moolavar: Sri Agneeswarar

The Kanjanur near Suryanarkovil is the sixth of the Navagraha sthalas. Here, the Agnishwaraswamy (Siva) temple is associated with Venus (Sukran). The seventh Navagraha temple is the Dharbaranyeshwarar (Siva) temple at Tirunalfar, which lies near Karaikal. It is a big temple complex, which has a well-known shrine for Saturn (Saneeshwaran). Lots of devotees assemble here during the period when the planet Saturn transits between zodiac signs.

It lies 2 kilometers east of Suriyanarkoil, can be reached from Mayiladuthurai (20km)Via Kadiramangalam and also from Kumbakonam (18km)Via Vepattur. Here Lord Agnipuriswarar blesses as Sukradev. There is no separate idol from Sukra.

Thirunallar is situated about 5 km from the Old French town of Karaikkal and is served by the Southern Railways. It is also well served by buses from surrounding towns such as Mayawaram, Karaikkal or Kumbakonam.

Thirunallar is 5 kilometers from Karaikkal, which can be reached by bus from Mayiladuthurai (30km) from Kumbakonam (45km) or from Nagapattinam (20km). A separate sanctum is provided for Shani. It is very pleasing to watch and to worship the pooja of Emerald lingh, which is conducted around 10A.M daily.

Another Navagraha temple is the Tirunageswaram, which is situated very near Kumbakonam. A shrine for Siva can be found here, which is known as Nageswarar. This Siva temple is very big and is famous for its shrine of Raahu, one of the nine celestial bodies.

This place is just 6 kilometers away from Kumbakonam in Karraikkal route. Considerable numbers of busses ply via Thirunageswaram. The special feature is this temple - when milk is poured (Abishek) on Raghu, the colour of milk changes into blue.

How do I share folders in Windows 7 with the Shared Folder Wizard?

If you work in any kind of environment where there are multiple users, chances are you will need to share one or more folders with your colleagues. For many administrators, this is a very simple task. For some, however, this task seems to be rather elusive. And what happens when you want to give your end users the ability to share the necessary folders to everyone? Are you going to walk through the sometimes complicated task of folder sharing? Or what about training your junior admins on the art of folder sharing?

For those end users (or even for some administrators with less knowledge of such tasks), there is a very easy-to-use Microsoft Windows Wizard for sharing folders. This wizard is the Shared Folder Wizard, and it is included in Windows XP Pro, Vista, and Windows 7. This wizard makes the process of sharing folders incredibly easy — for any level of user.

In this How Do I blog post, I will walk you through a very simple wizard that will, in turn, allow you to show your end users (or junior admins) a fast and easy way to share folders (or just make your job a little bit easier). In the end, regardless of your reasons for using this wizard, folder sharing will be made all the more easy.

Step 1: Open the Wizard

Open Shared Folder Wizard by opening the Run dialog box and then typing shrpubw.exe in the resulting window. Or you could click Start | Run and then enter shrpubw.exe in the Run dialog box. In Windows 7, you can simply type shrpubw in the Search box and press [Enter].

Step 2: Click through the welcome page

If you need to learn more about your Windows firewall, you can click the link. Otherwise click Next to continue, as shown in Figure A.

This is your standard Welcome screen, where you simply click Next to get to the real work.

Step 3: Set up your folder

In this step, you are going to name your share. You also can name (or rename) your PC. You should probably leave your computer name as is, since changing this here could cause conflicts with your computer name as defined by the system. You will need to set up the folder to be shared by clicking the Browse button (Figure B). Once the new window opens, navigate to the folder you want to share and click OK and then click Next.

If you want to share a new folder, you can click the Make New Folder button in the navigation window that appears.

Step 4: Naming your share

In the next window (Figure C), you need to first give your share a name and (optionally) a description. The share path is already configured from the previous screen.

The description will be an informative description so that users know what is in the folder.

Step 5: Offline settings

In this same window (Figure D), you can click the Change button to make changes to the offline settings. This allows you to give offline access to users.

If you do use the last option, you might want to check Optimize for Performance or you will experience a noticeable hit on performance should the offline sync occur at the wrong time or a user need a large amount of files/folders to be synchronized.

A note on offline storage — this can be a potential security issue when secure files are cached on a nonsecure machine. Please make sure you enable this option with care. Once you have finished with this, click Next to continue.

Step 6: Permissions

In the next window, you set up permissions for users. You have four options (Figure E):

All users have read-only access,
Administrators have full access; other users have read-only access,
Administrators have full access; other users have no access, or
Customize permissions

In order to give all users read/write access, you will have to use Custom.

When you’ve established permissions how you want them, click Finish.

Step 7: Complete the share

In the last screen (Figure F), you have the option to complete this share and/or start over to set up another share.

If you do not need to set up another share, just click Finish and the share will immediately be available to all users.

Final thoughts

You should now have a shared folder ready for your other users to access. I’m always surprised that this tool is more readily accessible by the user. But even though Microsoft has seen to it to obfuscate this tool from the user, it is still readily available to make sharing folders as easy as just about any other task in Windows.

Now-a-days, Windows 7 is operating systems in new computers. Installation of NSDL e-tds R.P.U. in windows 7 requires some knowledge for installation. A person who knows "Run as Administrator " do not face any difficulty in installation. Two times "Run as administrator" is required for proper installation. Right click on the step up file and use Run as Administrator.

If you did not format your flash drive, then check whether the files are not in hidden mode.

Plug your drive now
Click on “Start” –> Run–> (Press Window key + R) type cmd and click on OK.
Enter this command.
attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:*.*
Here g is the drive letter. It varies, you can get this letter in My computer
Press Enter
Now check for your files in on the pen drive
Delete the unnecessary shortcuts.

Note: Replace the letter g with your flash drive letter.

This change was made to ensure Internet Explorer could be removed easily for compliance reasons. The only way to add the Internet Explorer icon to the desktop in Windows 7 is to create a shortcut. To create a shortcut to Internet Explorer on your desktop, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then locate the Internet Explorer icon on the Start menu. If you do not see the Internet Explorer icon on the Start menu, look in the Programs or the All Programs folders on the Start menu.Note If you cannot locate the Internet Explorer icon on the Start menu, follow these alternative steps or, if you are not using Windows 7, use Method 2.

AHCI - RAID vs IDE HDD - Boot failure issue

Installing AHCI driver in Windows after the installation of Windows XP results in boot failure. You can get PXE error or "No boot device could be detected" messages or continuous Restart may happens while you boot your system in Windows XP.

The solution for this issue is change the SATA mode in the BIOS from AHCI to IDE. You can access the BIOS settings by hitting F2 while BIOS is loading. Change the HDD SATA mode from AHCI(usually called RAID by Intel) to IDE. Change first boot disk priority to HDD, then DVD/CD, then Network, etc.

Before exiting from BIOS press F10 to save this changes and reboot the system. The OS will loaded.

Optimal MTU size for Router Settings in Partial loss of internet connection

General instruction for finding your optimal MTU size
Go to Start and select Run.
Set router to MTU 1500 to start with.
Start RUN
Type in cmd (Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7) or command (Windows 98/ME) into the box .
Hit the enter key or click OK
At the DOS prompt,
type in ping bbc.co.uk -f -l 1492
and hit the Enter key.
If you get the response "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set",
lower the size the packet in increments of +/-10 (e.g. 1472, 1462, 1440, 1400) until you have a packet size that does not fragment.
Now increase the packet size from this number in small increments until you find the largest size that does not fragment.
Add 28 to that number (IP/ICMP headers) to get the optimal MTU setting.
For example, if the largest packet size from ping tests is 1462, add 28 to 1462 to get a total of 1490 which is the optimal MTU setting and can be put in your router's settings!

Intel Centrino Wireless-N : Slow internet connection

When the system connected to the router in wired mode we can get the very good internet speed. The Problem identified with Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 and 6230 adapter with Bluetooth has low internet speed when we connect the Laptop to ADSL2+ Modem Wireless-N router. This type of router can support upto 150/300 mbps in Wireless - N mode.

The network icon in the task bar shows that the system has intenet access or limited connectivity. But you may experience very low speed internet. This is very specific to the wireless -N adapter 1030 and 6230.

Solution:
In the router side
Open the router by entering the default IP of router 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
user: admin
password: password

Under setup select the wirless settings page

In the mode section select g & b as mode and save this configuration and logout the router and reconnect the laptop with router in wireless mode.

Now U can have the very good browsing experience in the 802.11g mode even with laptops with Wireless-N adapters, because the adapter will operate in Wireless-G mode.

In your laptop you may change the following things

1. Open the device manager and disable all the Bluetooth devices even it is not connected to any BT devices

2. Disable all Microsoft Virtual adapters connecting via Wi-Fi miniport

3. In the Wireless adapter Properties in the advanced tab change the Power option to higher performance in the battery mode and plugged in mode. The major drawback is it will consume lot of power and reduce the battery life. The workaround is to manually put the Wi-Fi adapter into continuously aware mode (CAM). This disables the PSP feature.

Set CAM by using one of the following methods:

(Using this workaround can cause your Bluetooth device to not receive signals)

In Windows XP:
Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility
From the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility:
Click Advanced > Adapter Settings > Advanced tab.
Select Power Management, uncheck Default / Auto, and move the slider to Highest / Maximum Performance.

Network control panel applet (NCPA)
Put the wireless adapter into continuously aware mode using the following steps:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Double-click Network Connections.
Right-click the wireless connection and click Properties.
Click Configure.
Click the Advanced tab.
Select the Power Management setting, uncheck Default / Auto, and move the slider to Highest / Maximum Performance.

In Windows 7:
In the Intel Centrino Wirelss-N 1030 >Properties> Advanced>select 802.11n Mode> set the Value as Disabled>OK.
In this case the disabling Virtual Adapters and Bluetooth devices may not be required.

4. Change the adapter mode to Wireless-G. In this case the disabling of BT devices may not be required.

This problem is due to the simultaneous power consumption of Wireless-N adapter and Bluetooth.

a. Reducing the performance of adapter to Wireless-G mode will reduces power consumption.

b. Disabling all the BT devices increases the availability of power to Wireless-N adapter.

c. All the Intel adapters configured in PSP mode(Power Save Polling). PSP mode is a feature that provides extended battery life for laptop computers.

The Department of Posts has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Unique identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to become a Registrar for enrolment process for issue of UID cards (Aadhaar cards).

UIDAI’s mandate is to issue every resident a unique identification number linked to the resident's demographic and biometric information, which they can use to identify themselves anywhere in India, and to access a host of benefits and services.

With Aadhaar, a resident will be able to prove his identity for various purposes like opening bank account, availing health services, getting mobile connection etc. Enrolment process by the Department of Posts has commenced in many states in the country.

Tamil Nadu Postal Circle, which covers both Tamil Nadu State and Pondicherry UT, has proposed to commence the enrolment in Tamil Nadu. Enrolment of residents for Aadhaar cards will be launched at Anna Road Head Post Office, Chennai 600002 on 25/10/2011 and at General Post Office-Chennai, Mylapore HO, T. Nagar HO and Park Town HO on 01/11/2011.

The enrolment would be extended to 31 select post offices in the state on 21/11/2011.

Enrolment forms are available free of cost, to every resident at the post office; the forms can also be downloaded from this website. The resident may approach any of the select post offices for enrolment, along with necessary documents.

UID Aadhaar Cards Enrollment in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry

The process of issue of Aadhaar Unique Identity Cards (UID) has begun in Tamil Nadu during January 2011. The Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension and Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy has launched the prestigious project of Aadhaar enrollment with much fanfare. The project has also been launched in Pondicherry Union Territory. The UID Aadhaar Card is set to be integrated with Smart Cards to be rolled out by the government for Public Distribution Systems in Pondicherry / Puducherry. The ration cards will be replaced by UID cards. Pondicherry was the first in the country to link a major public service like PDS with the Aadhaar UID Cards.

The Aadhar issue process in Puducherry will be implemented in three phases. The first phase would be a two week pilot phase at Pillaichavadi. The second phase would cover the entire Puducherry region, which consists of 8,71,340 residents. The third phase of the Aadhaar in Pondicherry would cover the regions such as Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, with a combined population of 2,80,921. Those already enrolled can check the status of their cards online.

The Department of Posts and Indian Overseas Bank are acting as Registrars for Aadhaar project in Tamil Nadu. Both the departments will cover the areas wherever they have presence in the state. All the post offices in Tamil Nadu will soon have special counters and trained personnel to collect the required documents , conduct biometric scanning of 10 fingerprints and iris, feed the data in the system, and provide the applicants with an acknowledgement slip. The Aadhaar card will be sent to the registered people through speed post.

The Department of Posts in Tamil Nadu has identified about 460 employees and trained them for the Aadhaar project. The enrollment process will be started by India Post from the second week of June. India Post will set up as many as 461 enrollment stations across the taluks and semi urban areas of Tamil Nadu. Mobile camps also will be established. The Aadhaar project will be started in Punjab, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal very soon. At present, Aadhaar Enrolments are happening in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tripura, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Orissa and Goa.

Kochi, Oct 21,2011 : Dr. B Ashok, the first Vice Chancellor of Kerala's first veterinary University (Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University - KVASU) has been sacked by the Kerala government today. A decision to this effect was taken at the cabinet meeting today, The charge of the Vice Chancellor has been given to K Jayakumar, Additional Chief Secretary and the Agricultural Production Commissioner. It is mentioned in the order that Dr.Ashok has written something against the present Chief Secretary in an article in one of the Malayalam dailies and that is reason for his removal. Dr. Ashok, now in Bangalore will arrive at the capital within a couple of days.

An IAS officer of the 1998 batch Dr. Ashok is a graduate in Veterinary Science from Mannuthy (1990 batch). He was previously Private Secretary (Chief of Staff ) of Union Minister for Agriculture and Food K V Thomas and Deputy Director and Course Director in the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. Dr Ashok has a Postgraduate degree in International Politics from Italy. He was awarded a research fellowship from Maastricht University, Netherlands and has also been trained in the Tata Management School, London University as well as the Duke University, USA in Management.

Unable to install Wireless adapter in Windows 7

In Windows 32 operating system with 4 GB RAM whenever we are installing the wireless PCI adapter u can see a error message that is "the driver not installed properly" or we can see a exclamation mark in the device manager.
To correct this downgrade the system memory to 2 or 3 GB. After that the installation will be perfect.

In case we increase the RAM again to 4 GB means we can see the exclamation mark in the device manager and the adapter won't work.
This problem mainly related to the 32 bit operating system of Windows.

For those own WG311 family adapter and experiencing the issue installing the driver, please follow the simple instructions

Issues: Code 10 error, Physical Memory is 2GB +

1. Go to http://www.station-drivers.com/page/marvell.htm
and download the Marvell Libertas driver Version 1.0.0.53 date: 10/16/2007

2. Run the self-extracting Zip file to uncompress the driver files

3. Under driver\inf\Vista...\32BITS there is a file called "netmw13b". Copy this file to c:\windows\system32\drivers, overwriting the file that is currently there

4. Reboot Vista

There. Four easy steps. Someone please give this a try and let us know whether it's really that simple.

32 bit Vista SP1 will install a May '07 driver which will not allow more than 2Gb RAM .Run InvokeSetup after extracting and v. 1.0.0.53 of the driver will be installed. After doing this I added 2GB more RAM (4GB total) and everything works.

To do it on Windows Xp 32

1) Open "boot.ini" file from your c: (Its Hidden By Default, So, You Need To "Show OS Files" In Folder Options.

2) Add "/PAE" At The End.

How to: Install Netgear WG311v3 Wireless Driver in Win7

By bhavtosh I must express my pain in figuring out the way of setting up netgear wg311 driver in win7; i dig out google and many forums but could not find genuine and working solution except few posts claiming that they got it work but when i tried their ways then i faced failure.
As of now netgear claim that they dont have tested driver of wg311 wireless adapter for win7.
This fix is when you want to setup wireless before cable connection. So as a part of testing i did few tweaks and this time it worked for me.
1. I setup a fresh box with win7 7600. During setup my beetel 450bxi modem+router device was off.
2. After logging for the first time i switch on the router
3. I wen to properties of wg311v3_3_1_setup.exe and under Compability tab i opted for VistaSp2 and Run as Admin’tor
3. Then i completed the installation and this time setup worked fine for me.
4. Setup asked me to to choose netgear or windows for wireless operations so I opted for win7 to perform this.
5. I also removed NETGEAR WG311v3 Smart Wizard link from Start Up folder
This fix is when you want to setup Wirless after setting up cable connection. Below steps worked for me

Enable Wireless with security settings in your modem/router
Follow above #2 and #3 steps
Shut down the machine
Take out the neatgear card from the socket and then put it back
Remove the network cable; switch on the machine
login and windows will either automatically install the driver or will ask you to verify the installation
enter the security information and your wireless connection should work

Airtel Internet through Mobile Phone as Modem . Now I am explaining step by step procedure to setup a connection to dial-up your Mobile as modem. Let’s get into steps:

Go to “Start–>Control Panel”
Click on “Network & Internet Connections”.
Under header “Pick a task” click on “Create a connection to the network at your workspace”.
Now you will get “New Connection Wizard dialog box, select “Dial-up connection” & click next.
Dialog will ask for “Connection Name”, give whatever you would like to. I had given “airtelgprs”.
It asks for “Phone Number”, enter number as “*99***1#”
If you want select to put a shortcut on desktop (Preferred) & finish setup.

Now you will see a shortcut saying “airtelgprs” (In my case) on desktop. Make sure you installed your phone drivers & connect your phone. Double click the icon on desktop, leave blank “User name” & “Password” fields & click “Dial”. One message will pop-up to confirm its connected. Following are

Few points to check if not connected:
Check whether modem drivers for your phone are installed. Normally this will come with your phone’s PC Suite. Installing PC Suite will install all required drivers.
Check whether your phone could be used as modem or not.
You need to activate “Mobile Office” service of Airtel to connect. Other services like “Airtel Live” & “NOP/Airtel Online” will not work for this connection.
If you are getting message “Modem not responded”, try restart your mobile & reconnect it.
