CAAT is proud to announce the launch of our youth website - MyDrugFreeWorld.com

We hope that parents and educators find DrugFreeCommunity.com a good resource for youth drug prevention in Westminster, but we also wanted an online place for students to visit.

We encourage you to visit the website with your child/student and see what kind of things we are promoting. At the moment we are advertising our 19th Annual Youth Conference coming up in November of this year. If you ever wanted to know more about the conference your youth are talking about this is the place! We have photos and videos of some key events as well as the little connections that are made between students and build such strong friendships that can last for years.

We are also striving to create positive presence on social networking websites such as: Facebook, Myspace, and YouTube. We believe these sites have extreme potential for students to reinforce positive relationships created through our events.

Prom season is upon us with Ranum's events on April 19 and Westminster's on May 10. At this time it is critical for parents to express their expectations of their students behavior. However, this is no one-way street and parents are reminded to make themselves available for responsible behaviors.

Informational letters were mailed out to the homes of all District 50 Juniors and Seniors.

PROCLAMATION

JUST SAY NO – 2008

WHEREAS, Alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by our youth is one of the most serious problems facing our society today; and

WHEREAS, The Westminster Area Community Awareness Action Team works to empower youth to lead healthy, productive, drug-free lives; and

WHEREAS, The Drug Free Conference is a community based program dedicated to the well being of children and teenagers and locally coordinated by Westminster Area Community Awareness Action Team; and

WHEREAS, Resiliency of youth is promoted through Schools, City and Community Programs and Drug Free Clubs by providing opportunities to form strong relationships with positive peers and adults within community institutions, develop new life skills, and assume useful, meaningful roles in their communities.

NOW THEREFORE, Adams County School District 50 Board of Education and Dr. Roberta Selleck, Superintendent of Schools, do hereby proclaim the week of April 27, 2008 – May 3, 2008 as
JUST SAY NO WEEK

Encouraging all District 50 students to participate in this effort and be reminded that drug use by youth is a serious problem which requires everyone’s attention.

Participants were placed in friendship groups that facilitate many small group discussions including the topics presented by keynote speakers. This years conference featured Phil Okongo-Gwoke and Garth Heckman of Black & White Productions, and Rick and Barb Wise of Wise Choices.
