After six months over a low dose of statins, two-thirds of the sufferers had abnormalities within the heart's filling phase, when the muscle fills with blood.

Liver Dysfunction.

Even the drug businesses own ads acknowledge this!

Memory Loss and Cognitive Impairment.

Research the internet and you will find countless reviews of people getting statins after which struggling with mild to extreme memory reduction and cognitive impairment. 1 doctor has discovered that 15 percent of statin sufferers create some unwanted effects pertaining to cognitive function. Researchers who studied 500,000 residents of Denmark, about 9 percent of that country's population, found that individuals who took statins have been more most likely to create polyneuropathy. Taking statins for one season raised the danger of nerve harm by about 15 percent--about one case for every two,200 sufferers. For individuals who took statins for two or much more years, the extra danger rose to 26 %. The harm is frequently irreversible in statin patients, even right after they cease taking the drug.

Miscellaneous Maladies.

There are lots of reports of other unwanted effects such as depression, pancreatic rot, muscle stiffness and discomfort, coenzyme Q10 depletion, and the listing goes on.

Should you have higher cholesterol you must get it lowered. It may be used as a phosphate binder for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia (primarily in patients with chronic renal failure). It is also used in the pharmaceutical industry as an inert filler for tablets and other pharmaceuticals.

Calcium carbonate is used in the production of toothpaste and is also used in homeopathy as one of the constitutional remedies.

Excess calcium from supplements, fortified food and high-calcium diets, can cause the "milk alkali syndrome," which has serious toxicity and can be fatal. In 1915, Bertram Sippy introduced the "Sippy regimen" of hourly ingestion of milk and cream, and the gradual addition of eggs and cooked cereal, for 10 days, combined with alkaline powders, which provided symptomatic relief for peptic ulcer disease. Over the next several decades, the Sippy regimen resulted in renal failure, alkalosis, and hypercalemia, mostly in men with peptic ulcer disease.

These adverse effects were reversed when the regimen stopped, but it was fatal in some patients with protracted vomiting. Milk alkali syndrome declined in men after effective treatments for peptic ulcer disease. But during the past 15 years, it has been reported in women taking calcium supplements above the recommended range of 1200 to 1500 mg daily, for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, and is exacerbated by dehydration. Calcium has been added to over-the-counter products, which contributes to inadvertent excessive intake. Excessive calcium intake can lead to hypercalcemia, complications of which include vomiting, abdominal pain and altered mental status.

A form of food additive is designated as E170. It is used in some soy milk products as a source of dietary calcium; one study suggests that calcium carbonate might be as bioavailable as the calcium in cow's milk.

Bismuth Subsalicylate.

Bismuth subsalicylate is used to treat diarrhea, heartburn, and upset stomach in adults and children 12 years of age and older. Anaerobic bacteria are single-celled that living organisms thrive in environments where there is little oxygen (anaerobic environments) and can lead to disease in the stomach (bacterial peritonitis), liver (liver abscess) and pelvis (abscess of the ovaries and fallopian tubes). Giardia lamblia and amoeba are gastro-intestinal parasites, which can cause abdominal pain and diarrhoea in people infected. Trichomonas vaginalis is a parasite that causes the vaginal inflammation (vaginitis). Metronidazole selectively blocks some of the functions in cells and bacterial parasites that are in their death.

Metronidazole is indicated for the treatment of parasitic infections, including infections of Giardia small intestine, liver amoebic abscess and amoebic dysentery (large intestine infection causes bloody diarrhoea), bacterial vaginosis, Trichomonas vaginal infections and holders of Trichomonas ( two sexual partners), which have not Symptoms of infection. Metronidazole is also alone or in combination with other antibiotics in the treatment of liver abscesses in the pelvis, stomach and brain, caused by anaerobic bacteria. Metronidazole is also in the treatment of colon infection by a bacterium called C. difficile. (Antibiotics are commonly used type of bacteria that inhabit the colon. C. difficile is an anaerobic bacterium that can infect both points, if the normal types of bacteria in the large intestine are inhibited by antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Chloramphenicol is used to treat serious infections in different parts of the body. It is sometimes given with other antibiotics. However, chloramphenicol should not be used for colds, flu, other virus infections, sore throats or other minor infections, or to prevent infections.

Chloramphenicol should only be used for serious infections in which other medicines do not work. This medicine may cause some serious side effects, including blood problems and eye problems. Symptoms of the blood problems include pale skin, sore throat and fever, unusual bleeding or bruising, and unusual tiredness or weakness. You and your doctor should talk about the good this medicine will do as well as the risks of taking it .

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to chloramphenicol. Also tell your health care professional if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives, or dyes.

Chloramphenicol has not been shown to cause birth defects in humans. However, use is not recommended within a week or two of your delivery date. Chloramphenicol may cause gray skin color, low body temperature, bloated stomach, uneven breathing, drowsiness, pale skin, sore throat and fever, unusual bleeding or bruising, unusual tiredness or weakness, or other problems in the infant.

Chloramphenicol passes into the breast milk and has been shown to cause unwanted effects, such as pale skin, sore throat and fever, unusual bleeding or bruising, unusual tiredness or weakness, or other problems in nursing babies. It may be necessary for you to take another medicine or to stop breast-feeding during treatment. Be sure you have discussed the risks and benefits of the medicine with your doctor.

Newborn infants are especially sensitive to the side effects of chloramphenicol because they cannot remove the medicine from their body as well as older children and adults.

Many medicines have not been studied specifically in older people. Therefore, it may not be known whether they work exactly the same way they do in younger adults or if they cause different side effects or problems in older people. There is no specific information comparing use of chloramphenicol in the elderly with use in other age groups.

Source

Ofloxacin.

Ofloxacin is used to treat pneumonia and bronchitis caused by Haemophilus influenzae and Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is also used in treating skin infections caused by staphylococcus aureus, and streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. Ofloxacin is used to treat sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, but is not effective against syphilis. Ofloxacin is often used to treat urinary infections and prostate infections caused by E. Coli. Some strains of streptococcus, enterococcus, and anaerobic bacteria are resistant to ofloxacin.

Ofloxacin should not be taken with food. Ofloxacin is partially metabolized by the liver and excreted by the kidney. Dosages require adjustment in patients with severely abnormal liver or kidney function. Antacids, minerals, and vitamins with iron block the absorption of ofloxacin and they should not be taken together.

Ofloxacin administered together with theophylline can lead to elevated blood levels of theophylline. Theophylline is used to open airways in the treatment of asthma. If concurrent use of ofloxacin and theophylline cannot be avoided, frequent blood tests to monitor theophylline blood levels should be performed. Ofloxacin should be used with caution in patients with central nervous system diseases such as seizures, because rare seizures have been reported in patients receiving this medication. Ofloxacin should be avoided in children and adolescents under 18 years old, as safe use in these patients have not been established.

Many antibiotics, including ofloxacin, can alter the normal bacteria in the colon and encourage overgrowth of a bacteria responsible for the development of inflammation of the colon (pseudomembranous colitis). Pseudomembranous colitis can cause fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and sometimes even shock. Patients taking ofloxacin can develop sensitivity of the skin to direct sunlight. Ofloxacin can enhance the action of the anticoagulant warfarin (Coumadin), and increase the risk of bleeding. Both high and low blood sugars have been reported in patients with diabetes taking ofloxacin together with insulin or other medications used to lower the blood sugar. Careful monitoring of blood sugars is, therefore, recommended when these drugs are concurrently used.

Ofloxacin should be avoided during pregnancy, as safe use in these patients have not been established and should be avoided in nursing mothers, as safe use in these patients have not been established.

The most frequent side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, headache, dizziness, itching, and vaginitis in women. Rare allergic reactions have been described, such as hives and anaphylaxis (shock). Symptoms of nervous system stimulation, such as anxiety, euphoria, and hallucinations have rarely been reported.

Ofloxacin as well as other antibiotics in the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics, has been associated with tendinitis and even rupture of tendons, particularly the Achilles tendon. Some physicians recommend that their patients discontinue vigorous exercise while they are taking fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

Source

hydrochlorothiazide

Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.

Hydrochlorothiazide treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen. Before taking amoxicillin, tell your doctor if you use birth control pills. Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Amoxicillin will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. Do not give this medication to another person, even if they have the same symptoms you do.

Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or has blood in it, call your doctor. Do not use any medicine to stop the diarrhea unless your doctor has told you to.

If you are taking amoxicillin with clarithromycin and/or lansoprazole to treat stomach ulcer, use all of your medications as directed. Be sure to read the medication guide or patient instructions provided with each of your medications. Do not change your doses or medication schedule without advice from your doctor.

Side effects.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:

- fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
- nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
- diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
- fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
- easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
- urinating less than usual or not at all;
- agitation, confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; or
- seizure (black-out or convulsions).

Less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as:

- nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;
- vaginal itching or discharge;
- headache;
- swollen, black, or "hairy" tongue; or
- thrush (white patches or inside your mouth or throat).

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Nifedipine relaxes (widens) your blood vessels (veins and arteries), which makes it easier for the heart to pump and reduces its workload.

Nifedipine is used to lower hypertension (high blood pressure) and to treat angina (chest pain).

Nifedipine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Do not stop taking nifedipine without first talking to your doctor, even if you begin to feel better. If you stop taking the medication, your condition could become worse. Do not crush, chew, or break any form of nifedipine. Swallow the pills whole. Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with this medication. Nifedipine can interact with grapefruit and grapefruit juice, and the interaction may have dangerous effects. You should discuss the use of grapefruit and grapefruit juice with your doctor.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have

- kidney disease;
- liver disease;
- another disease of the heart or blood vessels such as sick sinus syndrome, aortic stenosis, heart failure, low blood pressure, or coronary artery disease.

You may not be able to take nifedipine, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above.
Nifedipine is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether this medication will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take nifedipine without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Nifedipine passes into breast milk. Do not take nifedipine without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. If you are over 65 years of age, you may be more likely to experience side effects from nifedipine. Your doctor may prescribe a lower dose of this medication.

Side effects.

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking nifedipine and contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical treatment:

- an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
- unusually fast or slow heartbeats;
- severe dizziness or fainting;
- psychosis;
- yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice); or
- swelling of the legs or ankles.

Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Meniere's disease occurs when there is a build up of fluid within the inner ear. This causes symptoms such as tinnitus (buzzing in the ear), deafness and vertigo (a spinning sensation often causing vomiting). These attacks may last for a few hours and then not come back for months, or you may experience a cluster of attacks.

Betahistine works by reducing the amount of fluid in the inner ear and therefore relieves these symptoms.

Before taking Betahistine make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows if you

- are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast-feeding
- have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any other medicine
- suffer from, or have ever had, a peptic (stomach) ulcer
- suffer from asthma
- suffer from phaeochromocytoma (a tumour on the adrenal gland)
- are taking any other medicines, including those available to buy without a prescription, herbal and complementary medicines

Directions

Take your medication exactly as directed by your doctor.

Always read the manufacturer's information leaflet, if possible, before beginning treatment.

Try to take this medicine at the same times each day to avoid missing any doses. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember and continue taking it at the usual times. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, leave out the missed dose and continue as normal. Never take two doses at the same time to make up. If in doubt speak to your pharmacist or doctor.

Take Betahistine with food.

Never take more than the prescribed dose. If you suspect that you or someone else has taken an overdose of Betahistine contact your doctor or go to the accident and emergency department of your local hospital at once. Always take the container with you, if possible, even if empty.

This medicine is for you. Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

This medication may be taken with or without food, usually twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, or use as directed by your doctor. Take this medication 2 hours before or 6 hours after taking any products containing magnesium, aluminum, or calcium. Some examples include quinapril, certain forms of didanosine (chewable/dispersible buffered tablets or pediatric oral solution), vitamins/minerals, antacids, dairy products (e.g., milk, yogurt), calcium-enriched juice, and sucralfate. Other products include bismuth subsalicylate, iron, and zinc. They bind with ciprofloxacin preventing its full absorption.

SIDE EFFECTS.

Stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, headache, vision changes or dizziness may occur during the first few days. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: sunburn-like skin reaction (sun sensitivity). Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: seizures, mental/mood changes (including rare thoughts of suicide), numbness/tingling of the hands/feet, hearing loss, easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat or fever, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, stomach pain, yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, unusual change in the amount of urine, unusual fatigue. This medication may rarely cause tendon damage (e.g., tendonitis, tendon rupture). Seek immediate medical attention, rest, and stop exercising if you develop joint/muscle/tendon pain or swelling. This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition (pseudomembranous colitis) due to a resistant bacteria. This condition may occur weeks after treatment has stopped. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medications if you have the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop: persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain/cramping, blood/mucus in your stool. Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection (oral or vaginal fungal infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS.
Before taking ciprofloxacin, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other quinolone antibiotics such as levofloxacin; or if you have any other allergies. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: seizures, brain or nervous system disorders, kidney disease, joint/tendon problems (e.g., tendonitis, bursitis), liver disease, blood vessel problems. This drug may make you dizzy or light-headed; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to its side effects (e.g., tendon problems), especially if they are also taking corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone, hydrocortisone). Caution is advised when using this drug in children because they may be more sensitive to its possible side effects (e.g., joint/tendon problems). Discuss the risks and benefits with the doctor. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended while using this drug.

Source.

Domperidone

This medication increases movement through the digestive system. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop: chest pain, slow/fast/irregular heartbeat, swelling of the feet or ankles, difficulty urinating, swelling of the breasts or discharge from the nipple in men or women, menstrual changes, sexual difficulties. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: history of breast cancer, allergies. Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Domperidone passes into breast milk. Due to the potential risks to a nursing infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding (see also Uses section).

Drug Interactions

Because this medication enhances movement in the digestive tract, it may affect the absorption and action of other medications. Therefore, it is important to tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take, especially of: MAOIs (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Source

Diltiazem.

Diltiazem belongs to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. These medications block the transport of calcium into the smooth muscle cells lining the coronary arteries and other arteries of the body. Since calcium is important in muscle contraction, blocking calcium transport relaxes artery muscles and dilates coronary arteries and other arteries of the body. By relaxing coronary arteries, diltiazem is useful in treating and preventing chest pain (angina) resulting from coronary artery spasm. Relaxing the muscles lining the arteries of the rest of the body lowers blood pressure, which reduces the burden on the heart as it pumps blood to the body. Reducing heart burden lessens the heart muscle's demand for oxygen, and further helps to prevent angina in patients with coronary artery disease.

How should I take this medicine?

Take diltiazem tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. Take diltiazem tablets on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. Do not significantly increase grapefruit juice intake while taking this drug, or avoid grapefruit juice if possible. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often then directed. Do not stop taking except on your prescriber's advice.

What special precautions should I follow?

Before taking diltiazem,

* tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to diltiazem or any other drugs.
* tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially heart and blood pressure medications such as beta-blockers, digoxin (Lanoxin), quinidine (Quinaglute, Quinidex), and diuretics (water pills); carbamazepine (Tegretol); cimetidine (Tagamet); cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune); fentanyl (Duragesic); medications to treat depression; medications to treat glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye); theophylline; and vitamins.
* tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart, liver, or kidney disease.
* tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking diltiazem, call your doctor.
* if you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking diltiazem.

Drug Interactions

Diltiazem slows heart electrical conduction, and can cause a dangerously slow heart rate in patients with existing electrical conduction disease of the heart. Concurrent use of diltiazem with a beta blocker (another class of medications that slow heart rate) can occasionally cause profound heart slowing. Diltiazem can aggravate heart failure and cause excessive lowering of blood pressure.

Administration of diltiazem with digoxin can increase digoxin blood levels. Therefore, blood levels of digoxin are usually monitored to avoid toxicity. Similarly, concurrent administration of diltiazem with an anti-seizure medication carbamazepine (Tegretol) can increase blood levels of the seizure medication, and occasionally lead to toxicity. Concurrent administration of cimetidine (Tagamet) interferes with the liver breakdown of diltiazem, and significantly increases diltiazem blood levels. Therefore, cautious dosing is necessary when both medications are administered. Safety in children has not been established.

Pregnancy

Generally, diltiazem is avoided in pregnancy.

Nursing Mothers

Generally, diltiazem is avoided in nursing mothers.

Side Effects

Side effects are generally mild and transient. Diltiazem can cause difficulty breathing or wheezing as a result of worsening heart failure. It can cause dizziness, weakness or fainting because of slow heart rate or low blood pressure. Other side effects include swelling of the lower extremities, rash, headache, and constipation. Diltiazem can also cause mildly abnormal liver tests that are generally reversible with discontinuation of the medication.

References:
1.http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a684027.html
2.http://www.medicinenet.com/diltiazem/article.htm
3.http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/DVH/Uses/0,3915,206%7CDiltiazem,00.html
