Group drumming can be a powerful vehicle for connecting the body, mind and spirit, supporting healing and transformation in the process. Scientific studies show that facilitated group drumming may enhance immune system functioning, stimulate circulation, improve mood, activate brain functioning, and reduce stress. On Tuesday February 28, 2012, cancer patients and survivors are invited to come experience for themselves the power and benefits of drumming in community.

DRUMMM Rhythmic Events founder and facilitator Jeni Swerdlow, MA-ATR will create a safe, supportive environment in which participants can freely explore and play. Participants tap into their individual creativity and experience connection to the group while drumming, releasing inhibitions and experiencing true liberation through the drums.

No prior musical training is necessary to participate in this "hands-on" program. Instruments will be provided or participants may bring their own.

By popular demand, DRUMMM is proud to announce that it's "hitting" San Francisco! Sunday November 13th marks the first S.F. Monthly Community Drummm Circle. This event will take place Every 2nd Sunday from 4-5:30pm at the First Unitarian Universalist Center.

This is a hands-on, facilitated drum circle event. All levels, all styles, all ages are welcome. Expert rhythm facilitator Jeni Swerdlow, MA-ATR will get your hands moving and grooving to the beat in no time!

Bring your own drum or contact jeni@drummm.com if you need to borrow a drum.

Experience art in nature and delve into the nature of art in 12 Theme Areas featuring music, dance, sculpture, painting, martial arts, poetry, henna tattoo, circus arts, theater, visual arts, storytelling, arts & crafts and kids events.Stroll along the mile-long Stream Trail of Redwood Regional Park and experience more than 120 artists and performers tucked among the meadows, redwoods and oaks in this family, bicycle and dog friendly festival.

President, Founder, and Expert Rhythm Facilitator

San Francisco Bay Area percussionist and art therapist Jeni Swerdlow is a dynamic and engaging facilitator, trainer, presenter, and performer. Founding DRUMMM in 2000, her interactive, rhythmic events have captivated many thousands of participants at several hundred events in the U.S. and abroad. In 2009 alone, DRUMMM brought the experience of drumming to over 9000 participants across America!

A Registered Art Therapist (ATR), Swerdlow has over 15 years of professional facilitation experience. In addition to earning an M.A. in Art Therapy from the University of Illinois Chicago and a B.A. in Visual Arts and Psychology from University of California San Diego, Swerdlow has completed extensive trainings in drum circle facilitation with HealthRHYTHMS and Village Music Circles. Since 1999, Swerdlow has immersed herself in the study of traditional/cultural drumming and dance, including training in Senegal, West Africa.

Swerdlow is best known for her innovative strategies and playful attitude that inspire drumming with freedom and confidence among diverse populations. She is currently working on her first book, documenting the rhythmic activities, games, and best practices Swerdlow has developed over the many years of her work with groups.

Swerdlow has received numerous grants for her DRUMMM programs throughout the U.S. She is a professional member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild, as well as the Global Network of Expressive Arts Facilitators. She has been endorsed by drum manufacturer REMO Inc. since 2006. In 2008, Swerdlow co-founded the Northern California Drum Circle Collective, an association for drum circle facilitators practicing in the Bay Area.

As a percussionist, Swerdlow has performed with such renowned groups as Mickey Hart’s Global Drum Project, Redmoon Theater, and Holy Goat Ensemble. Swerdlow currently enjoys playing with the deliciously danceable samba band, The Loyd Family Players.

Guests get a "Taste of Rhythm" with DRUMMM at Berkeley Chamber Crush Fest

November 7, 2010--Attendees of the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce's 15th Annual Crush Festival got a lot more than just a taste of local cuisine and wine from 25 local restaurants and caterers, and 25 local wineries. Thanks to DRUMMM Rhythmic Events founder and facilitator Jeni Swerdlow, MA, ATR--and with the help of the Grasshopper Ensemble on drums--festival guests were treated to a Taste of Rhythm during the event.

After a short drumming performance in the banquet hall at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza in downtown Berkeley, unsuspecting guests were given Boomwhacker percussion tubes to play. Swerdlow helped the crowd find their beat while the Grasshopper Ensemble held down the groove for everyone to play along. Dancing and cheering ensued.

Berkeley Chamber Communications and Event Director, Shiloh Alexis Elias, told Swerdlow, "You guys were wonderful! Thank you so much for bringing such talented drummers, along with your amazing talent, enthusiasm, and stage presence! It was amazing! I got so much positive feedback from so many people."

One guest responded, "It was so nice to have something so upbeat to liven up the day--especially after I ate and drank so much! It felt great to get the body moving!"

This year's non-profit beneficiary was "Through The Looking Glass," which has been serving families with disabilities since 1982. Proceeds from the Silent Auction went towards the Chamber's Scholarship Program.

Analog Bits becomes Analog BEATS with DRUMMM!

Mountain View tech company Analog Bits got a taste of teambuilding fun with DRUMMM Rhythmic Events last week. The team of computer engineers and designers celebrated their hard work and company growth with Jeni Swerdlow and Patricio Angulo from DRUMMM on a warm sunny day outside their office.

The group focussed on developing unity through rhythm, releasing stress, and using teamwork to create original compositions based on successful strategies in their company's approach.

DRUMMM brings the beat to UCSF Children's Hospital

On October 1, 2010, DRUMMM's Jeni Swerdlow and Maggie Ostdahl joined Music National Service & MusicianCorps in providing a Music Day to hospitalized children at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Children and adults alike joined together in rhythm and song to lift spirits and connect with each other through the beat of the drum.

DRUMMM's founder Jeni Swerdlow, MA, ATR will be leading an interactive drumming presentation at this year's Percussive Arts Society's International Conference (PASIC) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Swerdlow will demonstrate effective strategies for engaging children in rhythm for education and recreation, based on her many years of experience working with kids and groups. The presentation will take place on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 3pm.
