Drunk Elephant, for me, was a chance to really dive into webcomics. I did a digital comic series in the early part of the 2000s (Golden Boy for those keeping score). I was way ahead of my time on that front, but it was a great learning experience about what worked online and what didn’t. So I wanted to try my hand at a webcomic strip and see if I could carve out a little place in webcomics for myself. My only rule was that I had to operate without a net. I wanted to challenge myself into doing cartoon improv. Nothing was written beforehand (other than this ending, I’ve always had it in mind from the start). I never allowed myself a buffer of longer than a week. I wanted to see what holding myself to a daily deadline was like, and to make the story up completely as I went along.

Thankfully, all of you were interested in seeing where I went also. My fans have been great, with many of you sending me emails this week once everyone started to figure out where I was headed with Hank. So, a heartfelt thanks to all of you out there who have been reading and supporting me.

What’s next for me? I’m finishing up my thesis at the Center for Cartoon Studies for my final year there, which I hope will be published shortly after its completion. I also have a couple of mainstream comic projects coming soon that I can’t wait to share with you all. And of course, you can find me every week on Signs & Meanings with the talented Kevin Church and Rick Hiltbrunner.
