University of Pittsburgh Hosts ‘Race in America’ June 3-6 With Claims To Be the Most Solution-focused Conference on Race Ever Held | Seeing is Believing

Julian Bond, Julianne Malveaux, and Benjamin Jealous among keynote speakers for “Race in America,” which will bring together the largest group of authorities on race ever assembled at an academic conference.

The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work and the Center on Race and Social Problems will host “Race in America” — designed to be the most solution-focused conference on race ever held — on the University’s Pittsburgh campus June 3-6.

Seven key areas will be explored during “Race in America”: economics, education, criminal justice, race relations, health, mental health, and families, youth, and the elderly. There will be two keynote speeches and a panel discussion, all open to the public, as well as 20 sessions for conference participants. Forty of the nation’s most prominent experts on race will give presentations in the conference sessions.

D.C. to Give Away Female Condoms in an Effort to Reduce HIV/AIDS Rates | Care2.com

D.C. has begun a campaign to give away free female condoms in the nation’s capital the first city in the United States to do so.

The initiative is part of a project to help reduce the city’s disproportionate HIV/AIDS rates. In fact, a 2008 report found that D.C.’s HIV/AIDS rate is at 3%, about 15,100 adults

Sunset: ‘Lost Boys’ actor Corey Haim dead in Burbank at 38 | The Associated Press

Corey Haim, a 1980s teen heartthrob for his roles in “Lucas” and “The Lost Boys” whose career was blighted by drug abuse, has died. He was 38.

Haim died at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Los Angeles County coroner’s Lt. Cheryl MacWillie said.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death and there were no other details, she said. Police Sgt. Michael Kammert said there’s no evidence of foul play.

Lindsay Lohan sues over milkaholic E*Trade ad | Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) – The actress Lindsay Lohan has sued E*Trade Financial Corp for $100 million, saying a “milkaholic” baby girl who appeared in a recent commercial was modeled after her.

Lohan alleged that online brokerage’s use in the ad the girl, also named Lindsay, improperly invoked her “likeness, name, characterization, and personality” without permission, violating her right of privacy.

Cisco Systems Inc. Tuesday unveiled a new network routing technology that the company said will usher in a new era of the Internet.

Cisco said its new CRS 3 carrier router would allow carriers like AT&T in the United States to offer bigger and faster web services.
