“ChronoSync is a tremendously powerful program but can be picked up quickly and easily by the neophyte Mac user. Using a document based interface, multiple backup/sync/archive jobs can be created and individually saved. Schedule these jobs and you now have an automated back up system for an infinite amount of tasks. Did I mention that ChronoSync lets the user sync remote files and folders too! ”

Title: The Core Cord Organizer Reviewed @ DragonSteelMods

Review Link: http://www.dragonsteelmods.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12901&Itemid=1

Review Snipit:
“Today for review I’ve got a product that I’m not so sure about… It’s of The Core Cord Organizer from CableOrganizer.com, and while it might be a useful little gadget, I still think it’s a relatively pointless one. On the other hand, there might be people out there who have a use for it and think that it’s a great product. For what it is it works as it should, but meh, I don’t know, it’s one of those products that is just there, one of those ones that I really don’t think we need… ”

Review Link: http://www.dragonsteelmods.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12874&Itemid=1

Review Snipit:
” Besides being very quiet, the Whisper case also provides maximum room for expansion. In addition it has room for nine hard drives and six 5.25” bays. Silent operation and roominess are not the only features of the Whisper; NZXT also threw in plenty of cooling with four fans. Two 120 mm and two 80 mm fans will help keep the system running cool and quiet.”
“A few days ago I took a look at the NZXT Guardian 921 PC case, today I’ve got another from NZXT as well, the Beta. The Beta chassis is meant to be more of a budget case, coming in at around $50, but it’s got features of more expensive cases and overall it’s a very nice case. The Beta features a tool-less installation for the optical and hard drives, enough room for four fans to keep things cool, and it’s very aesthetically pleasing. So without further chatter from me, read on to learn more about an excellent case from NZXT… ”

” What I have for review today is something that could make your life a bit easier and maybe even save you a little money in the process. It’s a combo pack or two pack of electrical outlets, what’s so special about these is they are remote controlled to make ‘flipping the switch’ that much easier.”

Title: Corsair HX850 850W PSU Review

Summary: It seems an eternity since the last time Corsair released a modular power supply in their high performance HX line of units, and there has been a good deal of speculation around the net on when Corsair was going to finally release something in the 750W-850W range to better compete with the likes of the Seasonic M12D and Antec Signature units at that level.

Well, the waiting is over because Corsair is releasing two new units at 750W and 850W to fill the void. Today, I’m looking at the larger of the two units in the HX850.

Luxa LM100 Mini Case Review

Date: 06-13-2009 By Elric Phares

This system left me feeling a bit different than I anticipated in the beginning of this review. I know that the LUXA LM100 is designated as an HTPC chassis, but in that aspect I think it does not really fit the bill as the motherboard selection for this size system is very limited and most only have standard PC audio connections. Sound is a very important aspect of an HTPC system as it’s usually what you watch your movies and listen to your music on, and not having an SPDIF or Digital Coaxial connection leaves the system absent of one of the most important things about the whole HTPC experience.

From a platform point of view the Gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard fits the bill as a motherboard that supports AMD’s latest CPUs on the AM3 platform including the 810 we used for this review. Features-wise this board has all of the features that an enthusiast will want from a new AM3 motherboard except for one. For those expecting to run three or four ATI cards in CrossfireX mode will be disappointed as this board only has two PCI Express x16 slots but that is not the target audience of this board.

With a 15 year long absence from Nintendo?s consoles, many gamers completely wrote Punch Out!! off as an oldschool game. The series was a hit during the NES era remembered by virtually any owner, spawned a well received sequel during the SNES era — then it just disappeared. It missed out on the N64?s time in homes, and also called in sick for Gamecube duty.

Thankfully, with Nitnendo?s desire to revive old franchises, Punch Out!! was finally set to rise from the ashes. While nothing much has changed in the core gameplay since the 1987 original, the game does its job blending the nostalgia from over a decade ago with mainstream gaming to entertain you. It?s a good game and does the name justice-even if it?s for a short while.

The quality of the build and innovative features built-in to the front panel make it very user friendly. Unfortunately because of the lack of cooling power, it’s very hard for me to recommend this. I just know that geeks with gaming laptops love lights and gadgets and they’ll be wanting to add this under their hot laptops. However it would do little good. The cooling power is anemic. My suggestion to Glacialtech would be to dramatically beef up the cooling system with something like a large, quiet 200mm fan centered in the unit.”

NEW CONTENT (HTPC & Movies) - Twilight HD Movie Review

QUOTE: “In all my 23 years I’ve seen a few crazes come and go. However, I have never seen anything so precisely bullseye the cultural zeitgeist quite like the Twilight franchise. Spawned from the book series written by Stephanie Meyer, Twilight has gone on to become a commercial force to be reckoned with, encompassing further sequels, toys, posters, jewellery and has made the stars household names, with teenage girls swooning at their very utterance.

Twilight is, at its core, a forbidden romance tale, similar to Romeo and Juliet but mixed with the carnal pleasure of attractive vampires and with a little new millennium twist for good measure. When Bella Swan (Kirsten Stewart) moves to the small town of Forks, she quickly garners the attention of local Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), the 108 year old vampire whom doesn’t age. While they fall in love, the complications of their relationship become evident, notwithstanding his inbuilt predilection for human blood and the not so nice vampires whom also roam.”

Not that CES (the Consumer Electronics Show) really needs any additional hype, but the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) wants to make sure that even with CES half a year away, that the media and analysts never forget their technology extravaganza is on the horizon. The CEA sponsored a mini tradeshow in New York City this last week, called the CEA LineShows.

We decided that this would be a good opportunity to not only potentially learn about new products and technologies, but it would also be great real-world test for the Flip UltraHD pocket camcorder we recently reviewed. So we grabbed the camcorder and headed over to the show.

BlueAnt X3 Micro Bluetooth Headset @ DragonSteelMods

Today for review I’ve got the BlueAnt X3 Micro Bluetooth headset, and it’s from our friends at The Wireless Boys. The X3 micro has a few nice features, including and most importantly, it is lightweight, for me that’s a very important factor. It also has a 7 hour talk time, along with a 180 hour standby time and it includes both an AC adapter and a car charger. Being lightweight and looking good are not much if the headset doesn’t perform though, so continue on to learn more…

“If you would heard term “illuminati” and “alchemy” we are pretty sure that first association for many of you would be Dan Brown and one of his bestselling novels. For those of you that are familiar with OCZ Technology products, Alchemy series of keyboards is well known and this time we are presenting you Illuminati model that got its name because of back lighted keys. Because of this feature typing in pitch darkness, but thanks to side LEDs it can also provide illumination to surrounding area. Light can be blue or red and this can also be set using one of the buttons on keyboard. Of course light can be turned off or dimmed using a knob located in right corner…”

Quote: Cooler Master impressed me with their simple yet elegant D1. By no
means is it a flashy notebook cooler with colored LED fans or multiple USB
ports requiring a separate AC power supply. They went back to the basics and
with a simple tweak of replacing the hard feet with a softer material, I
think they would have come up with a huge winner. As it stands, the D1 is
still a budget friendly notebook cooler that does the trick of what a 50
dollar cooler would do - keeping your notebook cool.

============

“iPlayer is a slick programme that makes it easy to catch up on your favourite BBC programmes that have been broadcast over the last seven days. It looks great, is easy to use, and video quality is very good at its most basic 500kbps and even better at 832×468 ‘full-screen’ resolution, which uses 1500kbps. There’s now even a HD mode, allowing you to stream H.264 (1280×720p) video through a Web browser at 3.2Mbps (1.5GB per hour of video) or download it. Though close to TV quality, image clarity still isn’t as good. It is not without its flaws, however. Most noticeable is that rights agreements mean that iPlayer television programmes are only available to users to download or stream (Click to Play) in the UK. Most radio programmes are available outside the UK in addition to podcasts, although sporting and other programmes may be subject to rights agreements. You’ll also need a valid TV Licence, regardless of whether you decide to ditch your regular TV. Another disappointing oversight is the ability to schedule programmes for download from a selected series until the series has ended - much like Sky’s Series Link. Those on limited broadband packages will also need to keep a tight handle on usage, as both online video streaming and downloading seriously eats into your bandwidth.”

This year Gigabyte, a Tier One motherboard manufacturer, showcased three important additions to the PC marketplace. The first and foremost was Intel’s new socket 1156 “Lynnfield” processor platform, based on the soon-to-be-released Intel P55 Express chipset.
Perhaps the biggest problem we saw with initial Intel X58 motherboards was their substantial price. Add to that the serious price premium for DDR3 memory, and you ended up with a relatively affordable and fast Core i7 920 processor that nevertheless needed to run on an expensive platform.

The recent drop in DDR3 pricing got us thinking about the affordability of the Core i7 platform, and we began to wonder just how cheap users could build one of these systems.

MSI has quietly been preparing an army of Core i7 motherboards, now with five unique models on offer, we feel they may have what we’re after. The X58 Pro-E is an interesting looking motherboard, priced at around $200 which is almost as low as X58-based motherboards will go.

Article Snippet:

“With most new product introductions on the market, usually the first generation is a prototype which they then improve on and then release a better product after they have ironed out all the design bugs. But with Cresyn and their CS-HP500, they definitely buck that trend. With exceptional audio and build quality coupled with a foldable design and comfort, the CS-HP500 can easily be summed up as a safe buy for people needing a good set of foldable headphones that won’t break the bank.”

TITLE: Microsoft Explorer Mini @ LanOC Review

DESCRIPTION: Not long ago I had the chance to take a close look at Microsoft’s Sidewinder X8. One of the X8’s main features was the BlueTrack Technology used with its optical sensor that boasts the ability to work on virtually any surface. In my testing I found this to be true, but not really needed in a gaming mouse. BlueTrack Technology would be perfect for portable use in a laptop mouse where you never know what surface you will be using as a mouse pad. Today I have the chance to test out this theory because Microsoft’s new Explorer Mini mouse using BlueTrack and I will be putting it to the test.

DESCRIPTION: Yesterday I took a look at Cooler Masters Hyper TX-3 entry level heatsink and was surprised considerably by its performance and value. Today I will be following that review by taking a look at what I can only call its older brother the Hyper 212 Plus due to the Hyper 212 Plus being the same design only larger. The Hyper 212 has been around for some time providing great performance in a mid range price. With the updated Hyper 212 Plus they have most likely updated the performance along with the added compatibility for the upcoming Lynnfield or i5 CPU later this year. I plan to put the updated version to the test and find out how it compares to a range of different heatsinks.

NEW CONTENT (Video Cards) - ASUS GeForce GTX 285 1GB Graphics Card

QUOTE: “While there’s no denying that anyone who is after maximum power will want the GTX 295, for many people the GTX 285 is going to be fine for the plain fact that most users don’t have the monitor to really make use of such a powerful graphics card.

We’ve always been pretty happy with the GTX 285; it costs a good chunk less than the GTX 295 and still offers some serious performance, which for most people is more than they need.”

Before that, I owned a few Nikon and Olympus point-n-shoot cameras and have had some brief shooting time with a Canon and Kodak camera in the past year or so, neither of which I was terribly impressed with. Of course, it would be foolish to think the FX150 would outperform the DSLR so I won’t exactly be comparing the two side by side here today. I have, however, been looking for a nice point-n-shoot unit to carry around with me at all times and I aim to find out if the FX150 is a worthy contender in that category.“

“MSI should be applauded for bringing Intel’s X58 chipset to the masses at a sub-£150 price point. Sure there are full-size motherboards that offer better performance and overclocking features, but for mainstream users building a MicroATX-based machine the X58M is fantastic value. The motherboard offers an almost perfect balance of features and performance, and would make a great choice for a high performance small form factor multimedia (HTPC) or gaming system. Zotac’s GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi impressed me a couple of months ago, but it is restricted to Intel’s legacy LGA775 socket and DDR2 memory. If you want a bleeding-edge MicroATX motherboard at an amazing price, the X58M is a no brainer.”

Title: BFG LS-450 Power Supply Review
Link: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/732
Category: Reviews

Summary:
We reviewed this entry-level 450 W power supply from BFG. Let’s see whether it is a good product or not.

Here is a snippet:
“LS and MX are sister power supply series from BFG, with models from MX series coming with a modular cabling system, a 120-mm fan and an auxiliary 80-mm fan on the rear, while models from LS series use a 135-mm fan and no modular cabling system or second fan. Initially both series used the same internal design, however this is not entirely true anymore. All models from MX series are manufactured by Fore Point (one of the factories from Fortrex), but LS-450 and the new version of LS-550 (marked as “LS-550 (New)” on their website, being the model currently available on Newegg.com) are manufactured by Enhance Electronics. The old LS-550 and LS-680 are manufactured by Fore Point with the same design as models from MX series. According to BFG they will move all models from MX and LS to Enhance in the future, and when this happens units will be either released with new wattages (e.g. LS-700 instead of LS-680) or will have the name “New” added to their name.”

Pure Digital Technologies recently announced two new products in its pocket camcorder lineup: the Flip UltraHD (MSRP: $199.99) and the Flip Ultra (MSRP: $149.99). Both models build upon the existing Flip Ultra line by offering new features, such as two-hours of recording time and increasing the LCD size to 2.0-inches (diagonal). The Flip UltraHD also offers high-definition (HD) video recording (1280×720) and an HDMI Mini TV-out port. We spent some hands-on time with the Flip UltraHD to evaluate its capabilities. Come on by the site and check it out…

==============

Other features include a “hydrodynamically” supported 120mm fan for cooling, as well as a backlit blue Tagan logo which is unique to Tagan. When the PSU is active, the blue Tagan logo lights up like a Christams tree, making it look rather sexy. There’s also a “hydrodynamically” supported 120mm fan for cooling, as well as . For extra durability and reilability, the Piperock II 680W uses high quality Japanese branded capacitors in its construction.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the Piperock II 680W has a total of 9 x SATA power connectors (3×3), 3 x 4-pin Molex and 1 x FDD as well as 2 x PCIe (6-pin and 6+2-pin). All of the above features should more than enough to satisfy most mainstream users … but the question is whether it can capture the audience in an already saturated market?

DeepCool Ice Blade Pro Heatsink Review

“DeepCool’s IceBlade Pro heatsink is Xigmatek-esq looking exposed heatpipe base CPU cooler with a dark nickel plating over every inch. The IceBlade Pro is built around four 8mm diameter copper heatpipes which conduct heat to the aluminum cooling fins above. Exposed heatpipe heatsinks are good with CPUs that have large integrated heat spreaders and large silicon die’s below (to spread the heat around). One or two 120mm fans can be mounted to either side of the cooler, and rubber vibration absorbing posts are supplied along with extra fan clips. A single 120mm PWM fan that operates at 900-1500RPM is supplied.”

DESCRIPTION: Home Theater PCs continue to gain popularity, particularly as more television networks are pushing their content over the web. They’re also a great platform for gaming, watching Blu-Ray movies, running a custom DVR, and centralizing media storage. For some of these tasks, a low-power Atom system might be sufficient, but for gaming and processing high definition content, most consumers will want a little more horsepower. That’s where a quality HTPC chassis can make a big difference. With room for full-size ATX components, seven hard drives, and five fans, the SilverStone LC10B-E that Benchmark Reviews is covering today should fit the bill.

The Sims 3 - PC Review

Date: 06-09-2009 By Vlad Mihaiescu

When I asked myself that particular question I was still installing The Sims 3. At that time, the only look I gave the user’s manual was reading the serial key. Once the game was installed and I started playing I realized that EA got me hooked. I only wonder how many dollars I’m gonna end up spending on expansion packs for The Sims 3. My guess is a lot. Already, moments after its release, The Sims 3 web-store is up and kicking with a multitude of extras ready for you to download. Let’s face it, this game is fun, this game is addictive, this game will cost you way more than 50 bucks in the long run; especially once the addiction really kicks in. I don’t know how The Sims 3 did in your neighborhood on release day, but here in Florida where I live, The Sims 3 was sold out within a 50 mile radius by lunch time.

The Sileo 500 case is an exciting example of an inexpensive case that distinguishes itself from other cases in a few ways. First is the silent operation. Everything from the padded insulation on the sides, top, and bottom of the case is designed for quiet operation. The HDDs are installed via anti-vibration drive rails which reduce noise as well. Cooler Master has this case on sale on the market for under $60, making it a good bargain as you also get a 500W PSU included with the bundle. This case is a solid value for the user wanting good features on a silent case and it delivers it in spades.

We have just posted up a review of second Cryo Notebook Cooler to come from NZXT. The Cryo S is smaller, lighter and still has adjustable fan speed as well as a couple of USB ports to keep you plugged in and happy. It doesn’t provide the best cooling we’ve ever seen, but it’s not a bad choice either. Take a look at our review for all the details.

DESCRIPTION: Running a expensive high end heatsink like the v10 or even the v8 is not feasible for everyone due to space or financial reasons. Also as crazy as it seems to me most people aren’t looking for the most extreme cooling solution, some are only looking for an improvement over stock cooling. Cooler Master has recognizes this and has recently released the TX-3 CPU cooler for that market. Today I will be taking a closer look at the TX-3 to see how well it compares to other heatsinks that we have tested in the past along with if it fits the needs of the entry level market that it is designed for.

“A few weeks ago I reviewed the OCZ Rally2 64gb Flash Drive, and the results weren’t that good really, especially for the write speeds. So I got together with Lisa and Eric from over at OCZ and we found out that it seems I got one of the first batches of Rally2 64gb USB Drives with the older firmware on it. There is a quick and easy fix for the slow write speed problem though, just a firmware update that you can do yourself if you happen to have one of the first Rally2’s that were released. So read on to learn more on how to get the firmware and see what the differences are before and after the firmware upgrade. ”

iXBT Labs Review: Overclocker DDR3 for Socket AM3

Excerpt:
“On the one hand, the answer is clear: if you want to save some money and not lose much (or any) performance, it will be reasonable to redistribute your budget and buy DDR2 memory, which is still cheaper. Also, the relatively old overclocker DDR3 memory kits for other platforms work well with Phenom II, and in most cases they even significantly exceed their recommended frequencies.”

“Canon’s PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II is an outstanding A3+ inkjet printer that’s ideal for advanced photographers. With a resolution of 4800×2400dpi and using a 10-colour pigment ink system, it produces fantastic quality photographs and razor-sharp text relatively quickly and quietly. Business graphics are also solid, should you want to impress the boss with the odd PowerPoint presentation. And as it uses both matte and photo blacks, it allows photographers to print on both gloss and matte media without changing ink tanks. It offers 16 bits per channel printing and dedicated monochrome printing, and the Ambient Light Correction option that adjusts the final print according to type of lighting under which the print will be displayed is a really neat feature. If you are looking for the closest thing to that photo-lab print experience in a printer that’s reasonably within the budget of the serious enthusiast, Canon’s PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II is a great choice. The only downside is that it’s a monster of a device - especially with all the paper tray extended - so make sure you have the room for it. I’d also have liked plug-ins for either Apple’s Aperture or Adobe’s Lightroom.”

Quote: “Graphic processing unit (GPU) is a compulsory hardware for a computing system; either discrete or integrated. Today integrated GPUs such as Intel G45, AMD 790GX are much better than those in old days but if you are building a gaming system then a discrete GPU will be much better. Today let us have a quick look on Galaxy 9800GT; a decent performance VGA which comes with fair price.”

I have a feeling that the HIS Radeon HD 4890 Turbo could do pretty well in our tests. It should perform better than its predecessor, the Radeon HD 4870, and as far as going against the Geforce GTX 285 … well it shouldn’t be far off.

We’ve seen plenty of gaming notebooks that are meant to dazzle potential customers with outrageous designs, ultra high-resolution displays, twin GPUs, and quad-core processors. The MSI GT627-216US isn’t such a notebook. Instead, the GT627-216US takes a more subdued approach to offer budget-minded gamers a powerful machine at an affordable price.

Although the MSI GT627-216US may take a budget-minded approach, it doesn’t scrimp on what’s important to gamers, namely the graphics card. The NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS at the heart of this notebook helps it to produce respectable scores in many gaming benchmarks. In addition, the GT627-216US has an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor and 4GB of RAM. Come on by and check it out…

But if you feel the need to go to the Dark Side, then here are a few tips to get you on your way. First, make sure your burner is capable of overburning. Keep in mind that even if you do succeed in overburning your disc, you might not be able to use it afterward on anything but your computer. I’ll explain why later.

” Today for review I’ve got the Wicked Lasers Photonic Disruptor Laser and it’s not like the other lasers I’ve already reviewed, this one isn’t meant to burn, it’s meant to be a non-lethal weapon. This laser was featured on the Discovery Channel, and is in use right now in combat and tactical situations in places like Iraq and maybe even your city. The Photonic Disruptor is classified as a TALI, or Threat Assessment Laser Illuminator and is designed specifically for military and law enforcement use. The Photonic Disruptor is well made, very durable and waterproof and it features an adjustable lens to focus or spread the beam depending on the intended use. So read on to check it out…”

“Role playing or RPG games have always been one of my favorite types of games, all the way back to my Commodore days. One of the things I like about them was the time it took to finish them, you could easily spend 40, 50 or more hours just playing one game. It’s games like this that really feel like you get value for your money if they’re done right. Today for review I’ve got Star Ocean The Last Hope, an excellent role playing from the folks over at Square Enix and tri-Ace. ”

Compared to a decade ago, one of the things you immediately notice that has changed about personal computers is their design. Long gone are the ugly beige boxes, with accompanying unattractive CRT displays and peripherals. These days companies are paying much more attention to design, and in this review I’m taking a closer look at the premium Illuminated Keyboard from Logitech.

NEW CONTENT (News) - Eee PC spotted running Android + Qualcomm 1GHz CPU

QUOTE: “The machine was installed with Google’s upcoming Android operating system and we have to admit, it felt a bit strange on a “Smartbook” (as Qualcomm calls them) of this kind. The operating system is clearly suited for smaller devices and smart phones, but it was nice to get a look at it anyway. Operation was rather smooth and everything worked, albeit just a bit plain.

We asked one of the product managers from Qualcomm to give us a demo of the system. It is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform which consists of a 1GHz CPU. Because of the platforms “extremely low power consumption”, no cooling is required which allows for ultra thin netbooks. It is capable of playing back 720p video with the current gen chips, and in the future 1080p will be supported with the faster clock processors.”

Jim Doe addressed the audience on the overview of Qualcomm’s new “Snapdragon” processors. Qualcomm has mass produced the Snapdragon chip line with 40 new designs in the works. Today Smartbook is the newest technology added which will focus on Always On and Instant On tech and Qualcomm expects to see the first products based on the new Snapdragon by end of year.
NEW CONTENT (Motherboards) - ASRock M3A790GXH/128M 790GX Motherboard

QUOTE: “ASRock has been one of the up and comers in the motherboard market. Originally slated to be an OEM only producer, ASRock found that just building plain boring boards may make you a few bucks, but mainstream users are now wanting more and more on their systems and are turning more towards high-end and enthusiast boards. To this end the ASRock company has started to put a lot of investment into producing new and more impressive boards.

ASRock has a lot of Intel boards now, but equally they have supported AMD just as much and today we have a new board for the AM3 based processors using DDR3 memory and powered by AMD’s mainstream 790GX chipset, which has a lot of goodies in itself such as an IGP for budget users.”

DESCRIPTION: Think excitement - Think Spedo! At least that’s Thermaltakes’ spin on it. But what’s in a name anyway? Well, a lot less than what’s packed inside this Spedo… Spedo Advance Package gaming chassis that is. Name aside this case at first glance appears to have a lot going for it. It has a laundry list that would rival St. Nicks naughty/nice list in length, items such as Advanced Thermal Chambers (A.T.C. 3) and Cable Routing Management (C.R.M. 3). Is all this stuff needed or is this a gimmick? Benchmark Reviews will take a closer look at the outwardly impressive Spedo Advanced Package full tower case (model VI90001W2Z) and see if this is eye candy or the real deal. My hopes are high as this is really the first case that I’ve reviewed that has many of missing elements on my cons list of previous chassis reviews.

Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Racing Wheel Review

Date: 05-31-2009 By Vlad Mihaiescu

The reason I’m bringing this us be because I want to point out that throughout my years as a gamer I’ve gone through a lot of games and a lot of hardware as well. This is my 2nd MOMO Racing Wheel. I love it. Not only is this wheel very accurate and responds extremely well, but it also very, very, very durable. After 5 years in the making, it still is Logitech’s best selling wheel. Yes, I’d love to take a look at their G25 wheel, but until I have 300 bucks to spare, I’m more than satisfied with the MOMO. I’ve used and abused and used and abused my original MOMO like no other product and the only reason I had to replace it is because UPS lost my original. But UPS is not the only one company loosing packages; I’ve been on hold for the last hour with the US postal service. They’ve lost an overnight package to my boss. That’s another 30 bucks down the drain (plus the box content), but that’s another review (possibly a lawsuit).

The Phoenix Neo case from Enermax has several positives including holes on the rear of the case for water cooling, the tool-less installation of drives, a removable HDD rack, and the tool-less installation of PCI devices. The case also has an extensive FP I/O including four USB 2.0 ports, an external SATA port and the ability to install most long video cards. For a street price of under $100 that is almost everything you need from a Mid Tower ATX case. Not quite an Editor’s Choice, but a solid case to say the least, and it’s not too pricey as well.

Review Snipit:
” Today for review I’ve got the Diamond ATI Radeon 4870 1gig video card. As you can see be the name it features 1 gig of ram, so I figured why not make this more of a comparison review as in how much performance do you gain when going from 512mb to 1gig of ram. So I put my Sapphire 4870 512mb card up against the Diamond, both are running the same core and memory speeds, so they’re pretty much the same cards except for the on board ram they have. So read one to find out if it’s worth it to grab the 1gig over the 512mb version card…”

QUOTE: “It seems of late Intel has stolen the spotlight well away from AMD and with the performance results of not only the Core 2 Duo and Quads based on the Penryn cores, but also the new Core i7, this has really put AMD on the back foot. This however hasn’t stopped them from pushing forward and while Phenom II isn’t all that we’d hoped for, it certainly does have its place, namely in the low cost PC/HTPC and cheaper gaming station markets.

Boards are still coming out for the new AM3 based CPUs and since they now support DDR2 and DDR3 on the same CPU, AMD hasn’t cut its nose despite its face like they did with the transition from Socket 939 to AM2. The older generation of AMD users are still being catered for this time around.”

iXBT Labs Review: Intel Core 2 with Various FSB/Memory Clock Rates

Excerpt:
“In case of popular Core 2 processors with 1066/1333MHz FSB, it makes sense to use dual-channel memory of much higher bandwidth than the nominal FSB can provide. If we consider DDR2-667 the reference point, fast DDR2 or DDR3 memory can bring a 6-8% performance gain in real applications.”

Armed with AMD’s latest Black Edition processor, the Phenom II X4 955, a steady flow of liquid nitrogen (LN2), and several vats of liquid helium (LHe), the stage was set for one of the most impressive overclocking exhibitions of recent memory…

NEW CONTENT (HTPC & Movies) - Star Trek: The Final Frontier HD Movie Review

QUOTE: “A stipulation of William Shatner’s contract to return to the cast of Star Trek: The Voyage Home was dependent on him being allowed to direct the next film, which would become known as Star Trek: The Final Frontier, much like Leonard Nimoy’s contract to direct both The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home. Unfortunately this didn’t fair as well as they did; to this day the film well and truly divides fans and casuals alike and signaled the beginning of tiredness for the original franchise, despite the boon that for the first time a Star Trek film was being released concurrently with a Star Trek TV show: The Next Generation.

Spock’s (Leonard Nimoy) brother Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill) is exiled from Vulcan, taking diplomats hostage in a devious plan to seize control of a Starship (you guessed it: the USS Enterprise), to visit a God-like entity whom has been plaguing his dreams, with the hope of obtaining his power and knowledge. Meanwhile, an ambitious Klingon commander Klaa (Todd Bryant) has his sights on capturing Captain Kirk (William Shatner) dead or alive.”

Fake Recycling Events in Pittsburgh Uncovered

EarthECycle Exports Humane Society’s Techno-Trash to China and Africa

Seattle, WA. May 26, 2009. EarthECycle, the electronic waste handler
for two recent Humane Society charity e-waste collection events held
in the Pittsburgh area, did not recycle the collected e-waste as
claimed, but instead crammed the collected techno-trash into at least
7 sea-going containers and exported it to developing countries.
Despite assurances made by EarthECycle owner Mr. Jeffrey Nixon, in a
Pittsburgh press conference held with Western Pennsylvania Humane
Society Executive Director Ms. Lee Nesler and Allegheny County
Executive Dan Onorato in March, that all recycling would be done
locally, the global pollution watchdog group Basel Action Network
(BAN) proved otherwise.

BAN followed the trucks, to two area warehouses and then some days
later observed the waste being reloaded onto 40 foot ocean-going
containers. They then tracked 6 of the containers to Hong Kong and
one to South Africa. BAN has warned authorities about their imminent
arrival and actions are now underway to halt and return the shipments.

“Sadly, once again the American public appears to have been duped by a
fake recycler and become the unwitting accomplice in what is really an
international crime,” said BAN e-Stewardship Director Sarah
Westervelt. “People think they are doing a good deed helping animals,
and that their old stuff is getting recycled safely but the reality is
that this is a scam.”

In 2002 and 2005, BAN released two documentary films “Exporting Harm”
and “The Digital Dump” shining a spotlight on the horrors of the
global e-waste trade and its very damaging impacts of toxic
constituents in electronic products on the workers and environments of
communities in Africa and China. Recent studies in Guiyu, China,
“ground zero” of the international waste trade, and where much of the
Humane Society collection waste was likely to have ended up, show some
of the highest levels of dioxin, lead and other cancer-causing
pollutants ever recorded. Blood levels in 80 percent of the children
in Guiyu are elevated and already demonstrable brain impairment has
been recorded.

Last fall BAN was featured in a CBS “60 Minutes” episode when they
exposed a Colorado recycler now under investigation by US EPA. While
exporting most e-waste remains legal in the United States, the export
of cathode ray tubes (CRTs), found in old computer monitors and TVs,
without notification and consent from the importing countries is
illegal under US law. BAN has photographs showing CRTs inside the
containers. Even when the exports are not illegal under US law, they
are likely to be illegal in the countries of import.

After BAN warned importing country governments of the Humane
Society/EarthECycle waste, Hong Kong authorities took immediate action
and asked the shipping company to return the containers to sender.
Five of the six Hong Kong bound containers, three of which were
expected to be trans-shipped to Vietnam, have so far been intercepted
and returned to EarthECycle. The shipment to South Africa is due to
arrive in the port of Durban today.

BAN, together with the Electronics TakeBack Coalition (ETBC) is
seeking national legislation to ban the export of toxic e-waste to
developing countries as European countries have already done. And BAN
has created the e-Stewards Initiative – a list of responsible
e-cyclers* that have agreed not to export hazardous e-wastes to
developing countries.

“This toxic trade is the height of global irresponsibility,” said
Sarah Westervelt. “Our country must pass loophole-free federal
legislation to put a stop to what happened in Pittsburg and what is
happening all over America every day.” said Sarah Westervelt. “And,
consumers must be very careful and make use of the e-Steward recyclers
who have agreed not to export toxic e-waste to developing countries.”

EarthECycle promises charities up to $10,000 for every 100,000 pounds
of e-waste collected. The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society event
was thought to have collected 150,000 pounds of e-waste from the
public. It is not known whether the charity ever got paid. Meanwhile
EarthECycle appears to be hiring organizers all over the country to
create a large nationwide e-waste network to “partner” with other
charities in other cities and collect more of the public’s
accumulating mountains of techno-trash.

“asically the product is comprised of two simple metal brackets that slide onto each side of the laptop and elevates the back of the machine off the work surface. Imagine the flip down tabs on the back of desktop keyboards; that is the mechanism at work with this product. ”

Cresyn C750E is the name of an interesting set of in-ears, from a relatively unknown manufacturer. The C750Es feature a sweet bundle and a well thought out design. With a price point of $100 they are positioned nicely for the average user who wants to get decent sound quality on the move without breaking the bank.

You know what you do when you don’t have a place to get some juice for your gear? You get portable power. Black and Decker created this nifty little contraption called the PowerToGo. You can get it in 3 flavors, 10w, 20w, and 100w. I opted for the 20w because I didn’t figure I would need much more than that to power my PSP and cell phone, and because the 2Ah battery that comes with it is half the weight of the 4Ah battery inside the 100w version. Weight is an issue when traveling.

While ever more miniature digital projectors have been hitting the market for years now, these compact units have always had limitations that kept them from making that leap from nice idea to truly useful. This time around, BenQ packs impressive specs into its new GP1 pico projector - while targeting mainstream, media saavy consumers. While its size and weight are impressive, it also boasts 100 lumens of LED brightness, with a world’s first integrated USB reader and the ability to decode video and audio streams on the fly, without a PC attached.
Article Name: SilenX Ixtrema IXC-120HA2 Pro Series Heatpipe CPU Cooler Review @ Tweaknews
Article Url: http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/silenx_ixtrema_cooler/

Article Snippet:

“As you can guess from their name, Silenx has built their reputation around quiet PC accessories. Their IXC-120HA2 CPU cooler easily lives up to this reputation by being, well, very quiet. Even with its modest fan speeds, this cooler did an excellent job of cooling the Q6600 during testing. That is, until I added some voltage and clock cycles. When your packaging boldly states, “designed for gamers and overclockers,” you’d better bring more performance to the table that the IXC-120HA2 does..”

NEW CONTENT (Cases, Cooling and PSU) - Antec Skeleton Open Air Case

QUOTE: “Usually when I do tower cases the name Antec is soon to follow. Most of the time it is in the context of comparing airflow to what was once an industry standard bar raiser for case airflow. This time I happen to actually be reviewing one of the many products in their lineup. Antec is well known for the 900 as well as many various PSUs or even something as small as a 120mm Tri-Cool LED fan. For those of you who haven’t had the opportunity to use an Antec product, in my experience they have been all quality parts.

As much as I brag up the Antec 900, it wasn’t everything it could have been out of the box. I see many reviews and forum threads on the love hate relationship with that case, as well as the same with the review I am presenting today. I remember when this chassis first hit the news, I wanted to get my grubby little hands on one, as it seemed to me Antec listened to their users and offered a lot of options with this concept turned reality. As they say, good things come to those who wait and that’s just what I did. After a few months of waiting my goal was attained when Antec asked me to look at the Skeleton open air Chassis.”

Zoltac GeForce GTX285 AMP! 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 Review

Date: 05-25-2009 By Ben Sun

ZOTAC is a new company to me with this being the first product I’ve reviewed from them. From a performance point of view, the GeForce GTX285 is the fastest single chip card on the market today, and ZOTAC’s card comes clocked higher than the reference cards standard clock speed. The inclusion of the game Race Driver: GRID is outstanding as the game was one of the best of 2008 and showcases the graphics card. ZOTAC offers excellent support with a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Live help that answers questions even at 9:30pm PST. The card is available online for $339.99 with a rebate of $35 on Newegg. What’s even better is you get a copy of Call of Duty World at War meaning you get two full games with the card for a limited time. 3DMark Vantage Advanced just adds to the value of this card. This is a solid Gamers Gold product that will please any enthusiast appetite.

Quote: The iPod isn’t an unknown product, but I happen to be a new owner of the 120GB classic, so I thought it’d be a good idea to take a look at things from a fresh perspective, since I’ve spent next-to-no time ever with an iPod before. The classic lacks a few features of other iPod models, but if storage is your primary concern, this one should be right up your alley.

I ask you people, is there anything sexier than a female killer wearing tight leather? The answer is no. There’s not. In fact, it can be a little distraction having a booty that nice right in front of you when you’re playing a first-person shooter. So I decided that instead of writing a review of the actual game, I would instead write about the main character’s arse. I’ve compiled video of it in many scenarios and under many different lighting situations. You will agree, I’m sure, that it is a work of art that could rival even the rump of Lara Croft. That’s saying a lot. So without further ado…

Summary:
We talked to James Hildebrandt, creator of the Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming Headset System, a revolutionary device that uses airflow to simulate a home theater in your head.

Here is a snippet:
“Every once in a while somebody comes along and think outside the box about something rather conventional, like the headphone for instance. One of those people is James Hildebrandt, a mechanical engineer with graduate training in acoustics and methods to simulate engineering physics. He’s the founder and CEO of Psyko Audios Labs, which is releasing the Psyko 5.1 PC Gaming Headset System. The device uses airflow to simulate a home theater in your head (calling it the Waveguide system), bypassing Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and avoiding latency altogether. It aims to deliver naturally immersive sound and precision directionality.”

Just weeks after it unveiled a refreshed version of its IdeaPad S10 netbook (understandably deemed the S10-2), the company is dropping yet another new rig on the world. Today, the IdeaPad S12 came to light, bringing with it the title of world’s first netbook with NVIDIA’s Ion technology. How significant will this be in the netbook world? If we had to guess today, we’d say “very.”

As far as power connectors are concerned, the Silencer 910W has plenty. How about 12 x SATA power connectors on . Yes 12 SATA power connectoers! There’s also 7 x 4-pin Molex and 1 x FDD power connector, as well as 2 x 6-pin and 2 x 6/8-pin PCIe power connectors. With all these cables and power connectors, there’s only one bad thing … masses and masses of redundant unused cabling.
