Founder and president, Jef Lo announced today that TORONTO-LIME.com will be no more after 16 years online. After being touted the number one Caribbean website for so many years the question is why?

"It's time for me to move on" says Jef. "In the initial start-up, the mission was to give Caribbean content a place on the worldwide web. Back in 1996, the only information that would appear in a search engine for the keywords 'Soca/Calypso' was about Harry Belafonte. Over the years TORONTO-LIME.com has inspired many to post their knowledge and content online. Today there’s nothing Caribbean you cannot Google. I think I've reached my goal."

When asked if this was a move to early retirement, Jef said laughingly, "Business was good, but not that good." According to Mr. Lo, his immediate plans are to take some time off before returning to his other business (Soca Bookings), where his focus will now lie in artist management and public relations.

TORONTO-LIME.com is now officially off-line. The highly prominent domain name will be up for sale within the next few weeks and speculation on how high bidding will reach for the heavily sought-after brand is anyone's guess

Farmer Nappy been actively involved in spreading Caribbean music throughout the Caribbean and various parts of the world. He has been living Calypso/Soca Music from childhood, through adolescents & into adulthood. Carnival 2012 marks his 30th anniversary in the entertainment industry that we all love and cherish as a West Indian community.

My name is Aaron Marcelline. I was born 16th September 1986 in Southern Trinidad, where I lived moving from different locations starting from Sobo Village La Brea ending in Pleasantville San Fernando. My family at a certain time didn't own a television, we would therefore spend all our time listening music, singing and dancing just to entertain ourselves. By that time my mother noticed I had something in common with her, a voice. She then started coaching to the best of her ability even though she herself had no formal training that continued up until puberty. I guess that’s when my mother migrated to start her cancer treatments and my voice started changing. It was impossible to get out a good note and with a broken heart from my mother leaving, I eventually lost the zeal I once had.

Years passed before I started loving music again and by that time I had to start from the scratch with my voice. I had no knowledge, no idea there were people qualified to train my vocals, no knowledge of music at all. I would just sing to myself or for whoever wanted to hear me. Eventually I picked up modeling and was invited to participate in a male show called ON POINT, held as part of the Point Fortin's Borough week celebrations. This show was the pathway for me to showcase my talent to a wide audience. That night I sang “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell. I was extremely nervous nothing could explain the fear and excitement. It was unlike anything I ever felt before, I sang at other shows before but none as large scale as this one. That night I received a standing ovation from the audience, they even called for an encore. After the show ended and I found out I didn't win, my one comfort was the compliments on my voice and performance and even better was hearing my father's surprised reaction to my ability he had no idea about. I now have a new goal on my agenda; I am going to be heard.

I then stopped modeling and started focusing on music solely. I was informed about an audition for a program provided by the Southern division of the Ministry of Youth and Sport Affairs, the Young Entertainers Showcase. After performing my rendition of another of Maxwell's songs, “Fistful of Tears,” I was accepted. I met and interacted with various song writers, performers, engineers, radio hosts, disk jockeys and most importantly my vocal coach. My preferred genre of music at that time was R&B. However, after some time, I made the decision to follow the local musical culture of Trinidad, Soca Music. Being trained by Mr. Ashford Joseph, the very same man that trained our most popular and recognized soca artiste, Machel Montano, I started to work on my first material. My first recorded track, ‘Closer’, was done in late 2011, and written by Kendal Romany (although I do also write my own songs). The music was produced by one of the engineers at the Y.E.S. Program, Mr Reuel Lynch. However, the recording, mixing and mastering was done at Jahlight Records in Pleasantville, SanFernando.

My goal in the world of music is to become a household name. My aim is that my music would touch and move people from all over the world. I plan to still do RnB music. However, I hope to travel the world and carry the torch for Soca Music.

by: Tricia-Ann Whiteley

This year Ms Paige sets the pace for the season with another steamy single entitled Nice & Slow. Following the international success of her power release, Outta Order (Bornbad Riddim, Kubiyashi), for St. Vincent Carnival 2011, Ms Paige comes again with the heat to warm up any fete in the sultry style that only she can deliver. This single rides on a playful groovy tempo with a flirty hook that will draw lovers in close for another sweet, slow wine.

Nice & Slow is featured on the Aye Anthem, produced by Slaughter Arts Media and mixed and mastered by Nikholai Greene of Precision Productions. Aye Anthem also hosts releases by Jalena ("In Meh System"), Fya Empress ft. Mr. Fusion ("Go DJ"), and Sherwin Gardiner ("No War"). Slaughter Arts Media is also popular for the Ice Age Riddim, Campari Riddim, and Soca Bluetooth Riddim. Fans can expect nothing less than fiyah from this track; an infectious vibe sure to move the crowd in typical Ms Paige fashion: with love, peace and, of course, sooooca!

Stay up to date with all things Ms Paige at:
www.twitter.com/mspaigemusic
www.facebook.com/mspaigemusic
www.youtube.com/mspaigemusic
For more information on Ms Paige or bookings, contact info@mspaigemusic.com.

Soca artiste Tele Cruz has amped up the promotion of his latest single Sweat with the release of the accompanying music video. The video was shot on location in Tobago at a mansion villa as well as at Cruz Cocktail Bar and Bistro. Additional scenes were shot at the famous Back Bay beach in Tobago.

In a release to the media, Tele Cruz outlined the concept of the scorching new video. ‘The story behind my new video is basically having a good time whenever you party or whine with the same anticipation as you are working out in the gym. It’s not supposed to be glamorous but just rough fun and letting loose, similar to what carnival is all about”, said Tele Cruz.

Sweat was directed by Swedish producer Neil Luckz of 4Sons Entertainment. Luckz has worked mainly with international artistes from England, Sweden and the USA. The video features a plethora of cultural melting pot. The extras comprised persons from Grenada, the UK, Sweden and the US.

Said Tele Cruz ‘We all came together to show how we party in the Caribbean which was great fun”.

Asked what fans can expect from the video, Tele Cruz was quick to point out “My fans can expect an international view of the same carnival we all love so much. During carnival, people come together from all over the world to celebrate and have fun together. Therefore, everyone can recognize themselves in this video and we all know that whining is a great deal of carnival”.

The feedback to the single Sweat has been overwhelming to date. It has been enjoying rotation all over the Caribbean as well as in Jamaica, Europe and North America.

2011 was a pretty strong year for pop singles, with a fairly identifiable center emerging, combining dance beats, electro sounds and hip-hop swagger. To the left, there was no shortage of low-fi alt rockers, whose aesthetic often recalled early, pre-Beatles rock–a refreshing turn. My Top 30 list turns out to be a mix of those two styles, plus some great cheesy Europop (Hoffmaestro!), neo-soul (Timothy Bloom!) and even a Trinidad Carnival song (Kes The Band!). And oddly, three late, great soul singers (Otis, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson) saw their names as titles of songs in my Top 30, with no discernable musical link among the three songs. I’ve taken some heat at home for being too mainstream by picking Nikki Minaj over the Pierces and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jr. as the best single of the year. But as the months went by, I just never got tired of the awesome “Superbass.” Bu it was close between those three finalists. Read More
It was in 2005 that Scrappy has been working the soca scene with a series of songs ranging from groovy soca, traditional calypso, reggaeton, ragga soca and zouk, among other genres. The Trinidadian born, Montserrat-bred soca artist has been flying the Montserattian flag on various platforms and has graced numerous stages in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Holland, Toronto, St. Lucia, Antigua to name a few.

Scrappy who is a producer and songwriter, manages his own label Johnson Music Production. He has worked with producers such as White Wine, Soca Child, Chronik X, Kerwin Du Bois, Junez Productions and Dj Shaker with many more potential tracks to come from well established producers in the soca arena. His accolades range from 2005 Road March and Soca Monarch in Montserrat, 2009 SMA's Best UK Soca Track as well as his latest being the 2011 Calabash Awards Best Soca Artist.

The artist who to date has released his 5th studio album titled S.O.C.A which is available on itunes has put things into extra gear and has made his contribution to the 2012 Carnival season in what we consider as the mecca of soca, Trinidad and Tobago.

As Carnival 2012 approaches fast and
furiously, lovers of the bacchanal season have witnessed the launch
of numerous new mas bands and even a new musical outfit. Adding to
this festivity, several new artistes have decided to throw their hats
into the festival ring. Newcomer to the Soca arena Kiko Dan aspires
to not only have his name known in C2K12 but to also to ride the wave
of success with his latest release entitled “Ah Hit”.

This
groovy Soca offering from
Kiko Dan has
the makings of a true crowd pleaser with its engaging melody and
infectious percussive rhythm.

“Ah
Hit” was
produced by Tony ‘The Mad
Architect’ Brown
and
is a
true double
entendre. It was inspired by that elusive ‘hit’ song which all
artistes desire and of course that intimate affair which is on the
minds of most people (men and women alike) especially during the heat
of the Carnival season.

Kiko (real name Kaydeem Francis) who is
currently furthering his education in New York has a diverse musical
background having sung and played the
dhantal and dhloak from a young age at a Hindu school in Trinidad and
Tobago. Upon migrating to the US he expanded his musical
arsenal with Soca music and the steel pan, however, it was after
singing at the funeral of a close friend that he was propelled to
pursue the former in a serious manner.

This multi-talented performer has been
involved in acting and athletics and has played pan at the annual
Carnival extravaganza, Panorama. Although relatively new to the Soca
world Kiko has opened for well known artistes such as Iwer George,
Cassi and Hunter at shows throughout the Big Apple. Most notably, he
composed and performed the 2011 theme song for popular NYC Carnival
band Sesame Flyers.

Kiko, who
considers himself a modern day artiste, admits to preferring the old
school Soca. When asked about this preference he shared, “Those
songs felt more authentic and the topics that were sung about were a
lot more diverse. All Soca has its place, and making Soca for
fetes has its validity. It is fun to create, listen and party to this
type. But I do feel there is always room for growth as an art
form. He further stated, “There is a lot of great Soca music
out there right now. The politics of the music is steadily being
overshadowed by the new injection of artistes, producers and the
fusion of our genre with others.

He believes
that more promotion, marketing and unity are needed for Soca to
progress as both a culture and a genre. He deems the internet as an
integral tool in this festive Caribbean music gaining more of a
global presence and has already made his tracks available on online
portals such as:

With a mature
outlook on the entertainment industry and a proactive approach to
making it big, there is no doubt that this young passionate performer
will soon have parties rocking and radio request lines buzzing with a
definite ‘hit’.

Time for bachanal and fete once again in the twin federation of St.Kitts & Nevis and local artist Cinnamon is asking everyone "Are you ready?"Known for her hard hitting dancehall tracks like "Pon Di Ting - female version" and "Farmer Joe", Cinnamon has now taken her music to a different direction. She has been in the studio working along with label Skn Entertainment to produce a high powered soca track for carnival 2011-2012 in the federation entitled "Unity Jam." Again this song truly shows off the dangerous versatility of Cinnamon as a femaile artist in the Caribbean.

“I was asked last year if I would ever concider changing genres? While am still doing dancehall music for my fans, I toyed around the idea of singing soca and carnival provided the perfct time to experiment” - CINNAMON

Cinnamon states that Unity Jam is a plea to the community to have a fun carnival this year without any violence.

The track was released October 19th on SKNE Online Radio, and all major fm radio stations on the inland including WinnFm, ZIZ radio, KYSS fm and Freedom fm and from since has been on heavy rotation. Unity Jam has also crossed over regional borders to radio stations in Antigua. Cinnamon is currently getting ready to do a video shoot for this hard hitting soca track which is schedule to be release month end of November. She is also currently in the studio working on more tracks for the duration of the carnival season.
The hits
just keep rolling out of the Precision Productions musical
camp. This young production team continues to put their own
unique and completely irresistible stamp on Carnival 2012.
The latest super talent to work in their harmonic booth is
the very sultry Destra Garcia.

‘Keep On Wukkin’ is a
very hypnotic soca track flavoured with just the right
amount of R&B to make it soulfully groovy. Written by
the sensual Caribbean diva and Precision Productions, it is
the first time Destra has worked with the team. However, if
this is the kind of music we can expect from that
collaboration it is a certainty that fans will ensure it is
not the last.

In
colloquial Caribbean language, the word Macco is a nosy and overly curious
individual who takes joy in knowing everyone’s business. At Entertainment Macco
however they are only interested in arts, culture and entertainment, making
their offerings very interesting and worth reading. Since its’ inception in
July 2009 Entertainment Macco has been creating quite a stir in the Caribbean
entertainment industry, having established itself as a credible, unbiased,
informative and interactive online resource for the latest news, interviews and
reviews on the happenings in Caribbean music.

from various parts of the world including the Caribbean, Japan, Europe,
Australia, United States and Canada. The amazing revelation of such statistics
left one of the owners of Entertainment Macco, Adanna Asson in awe, “Nervously we approached Super Jigga TC for our
first interview in 2009 and things progressed from there.” She added “What is amazing is that people wanted to
know about the artistes we interviewed and featured and we did not have to
convince them to read.”

Soca artiste Tele Cruz has moved into high gear with his latest single "Sweat". The song is being served as a precursor to the upcoming Carnival season in the twin isle republic. It is already creating waves.

"Sweat "is featured on the bench mark rhythm and produced by 4Sons Entertainment in Sweden. It was mixed and mastered by Madmen Productions out of Trinidad. It is the follow up to Tele Cruz’s most recent hit Sail Away which featured fellow Trinidad &Tobago recording artiste Umi Marcano.

Best known for the single Material Tings which peaked at number two on theRETV MVP Top Ten Countdown in 2010, Tele Cruz has effectively carved out an enviable niche for himself among the newer cadre of soca music ambassadors. Material Tings also impacted several charts across the Caribbean and even in Europe, where he has a large fan base.
Influenced by music from an early age, it didn’t take long before Cruzunderstood that music was the biggest passion in life. That passion would eventually become his livelihood.

He started out as a dancer in his teenage years and competed in many dance competitions. Later on he would embark on a career as a disc jockey, working out with one of the top sound systems in his native Trinidad & Tobago. His skills as a disc jockey would lead him to entertain millions of persons around the world on a popular cruise line.

Born Tiele Thorne, Cruz’s work over the years with an impressive lineup of recording acts has given him the confidence to take his music career to another level. In 2006 he made his recording debut with Caribbean Affairs which featured pop singer Swedish Maria (Maria Albayrak).

Caribbean Affairs was a huge success especially in Europe where it ranked number three on the Caribbean Countdown in Europe.
