Edith Street Parking Lot is Officially Open! The official opening for this parking lot by the Mayor of Halton Hills was on Wednesday June 29th, 2011. This parking lot is located at the intersection of Edith Street and Mill Street. There are a total of 67 new parking spaces that are only one and a half (1½) blocks away from Main Street. This parking lot was designed to be environmentally sustainable.

“The Edith Street Parking Lot incorporates many environmental attributes such as on site storm water runoff for quality and quantity control, LED lighting and electrical plug in capacity for the future generation of electrical vehicles. Community sponsored events requiring ease of electrical power access will also benefit” said Mayor Bonnette.
We are encouraging our business members to use this parking lot for long-term parking, however everyone is invited to use it! It is a beautiful new lot and we hope that all will take the initiative to “Walk the Block!”

Downtown Georgetown Entrance Signage Project

Press Release – May 18, 2011
Commencement!
After a long winter, all sorts of new growth is springing forth. Among the most unique is the entrance signage project for Downtown Georgetown, being undertaken by the Downtown Georgetown BIA and artist Ken Hall. Five large stones will showcase Downtown’s new branding at various key locations, which are:

Main & Mill Sts.

Mill & Guelph Sts.

Main Street S. at Main Street N.

Main & Maple (north east and west corners)

Downtown Georgetown is an exciting and unique destination because of its rich cultural heritage – the wonderful mix of people, architecture and services that it offers is second to none. It is also captivating because of its location. In the heart of the escarpment, so close to many of Georgetown’s natural heritage treasures, Downtown Georgetown is a true gem. The new entrance signage will highlight this unique character and put it on display for everyone to see.

The stone being used is select pieces of Credit Valley Sandstone, from local stone supplier Hilltop Quarry in Georgetown. These will be being selected on May 19th, 2011 and transported to Ken Hall’s studio in Mulmur for carving.
Quarry owner/operator Mark Galbraith, Artist Ken Hall, Landscaper Randy Tumber and BIA Manager Kay Matthews met on May 18 to capture photos of the rocks being shipped to Ken’s studio.

Downtown Georgetown Launches New Branding!

Downtown Georgetown has a new look!

What is Branding?
It is the way you want to be seen or known by the general public, members and tourists.

Why did Downtown Georgetown go through ReBranding?
In 2007, the Board of Directors of the Downtown Georgetown BIA underwent a comprehensive Strategic Planning. This group of people, made up by members of Town Council, Town Staff, residents and business members, identified their vision of Downtown Georgetown and its future.

The Strategic Plan defined these priorities for Downtown Georgetown:
1. Develop a Team to implement the Strategic Plan
2. Develop a Marketing Brand (hence the ReBranding)
3. Create a Common Theme for Downtown
4. Update/replace the Entrance Signage
5. Develop, with the Town of Halton Hills, a Community Improvement Plan (CIP)
6. Develop Business Expansion and Retention Strategies

With these Strategic Priorites firmly in place for Downtown Georgetown the BIA pursued a grant in order to secure the funding required to put these priorities into place. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), through their Rural Economic Development Program (RED Program) approved a grant which has assisted the BIA in implementing Priorities 2, 3, 4 and 6.

The Marketing Plan – more to come on this subject!
