Id- ul- Zuha –The Muslim Festival in Dubai

Id-ul-Zuha is regarded as “Festival of Sacrifice” by Muslims throughout the world. Also known as Id-ul-Adha, the festival is celebrated by sacrificing goats and distributing meat to the poor as the offering.

Id-ul-Zuha falls on 10^th day of the month called Dhu-al-Hijjah of Islamic lunar calendar. Also known as Bakrid in some parts of the world, the festival in 2009 will fall on 27^th or 28^th November. The date depends on the visibility of the moon and it varies from region to region.

The Legend
On this day, Muslims offer sacrifice to honor the sacrifice by Prophet Ibrahim of the dearest person when god had tested his obedience once. Ibrahim instantly decide to sacrifice his son Ismail at Mina near Mecca. But as he put the sword on the throat of his son, Lord revealed that all this was just to test his faith in God and he could sacrifice a ram instead of his son. Id-ul-Zuha is celebration of fervent trust of the believers in Allah and his word Quran.

Philosophy
The sacrifice made in the name of Allah is served as an offering and is divided into three portions. One part is kept for self consumption, another part is distributed to friends and relatives and the third portion is distributed to needy and poor. To provide meal to the poor has been imposed by Law Book of Quran and it is for the believers.

Celebrations:
Celebrated with great zeal and dynamism among Muslims, Id-ul-Zuha is considered as one of the most propitious day for them. Special prayers for peace and prosperity of all Muslims, wearing new clothes, are offered in the Mosques. Sacrifice is done after the prayers.

This sacrifice is done before the afternoon. A full grown sheep or goat is taken to sacrificial ground and is severed. Poor are fed extravagantly and charity is also given.

Muslims share their warmth by greeting each other ‘Eid-Mubarak’. Exchange of gifts and visit to family and friends takes place along with the preparation of special delicacies and dishes.

The next week will see the much admired Twelve Tenors performing a live concert at the Palladium from 12^th to 14^th November 2009 in Dubai Media City. The immensely talented faction of twelve of the Europe’s best singers perform some of the supreme music of 20^th century Pop, Musicals, Opera and even Swing. The union also makes the crowd wild with its selection of Beetles favorites. The crowd can also not resist itself from their fantastic harmonies, good looking images and beaming smiles.

An assortment of traditional songs, pop, ballads and even a medley of songs from famous operas for the perfectionists will be doled out in the salver where the Beetles’ classic will act as a unique version.

The tenors have recently completed a theatre tour of Scandinavia, a sell out arena tour of the US and a concert tour of the UK. The CEO of Full House, Cathryn Gaspar remarked, “One of their career highlights was their performance during the gala dinner at the Monte Carlo rally. They have sold out every venue that they have played thrilling up to 30,000 fans at a time in some cases. This really is a major coup for Dubai.” The Dubai-based production company has brought the group to Dubai.

The boys will be flying off to Portugal for an all-embracing tour of Europe before they move to New Zealand and South Africa

UAE Desert Challenge

UAE Desert Challenge is a popular rally that has grown over years now in the United Arab Emirates. This spectacular show takes place in the UAE starting from October to November. The event starts in Abu Dhabi which is the capital of the UAE at the Emirates Palace Hotel.
