The bikes are secured in stands at the stations and are specifically designed for robust city cycling with cables built into the bike frame and good size front baskets, anti theft locks, bike rest, finger touch bell, automatic front and rear lights, adjustable cushioned saddle, anti splash mud guards and many more features.

There are terminals at each bike station, some of which allow you to rent your bike by credit card. The bike stands have a secure locking system and are specifically designed for the Dublin bikes scheme.

The terminals allow you to see the availability of bikes at other stations in the scheme and you can also organise your bike hire on the website of Dublin bikes at http://dublinbikes.ie.

You will need a safety helmet as they are not provided and you might also consider taking out your own insurance. You will also be required to provide a guarantee of €150 which will be only used if the bike is lost or stolen.

You can also subscribe online which will leave your bike hire cheaper than hourly hire as the first half hour of each journey is free when you subscribe for the 3 day hire ticket and the long term card.

The Dublin bikes scheme has been one of the best environmentally friendly initiatives in Dublin city for some time and travelling Dublin city by bike can be a very effective method of transport, especially when the weather permits.
