As I am still struggling with sorting endless data lists, very short blog post this time. Yes, it's this time of the year again. For those amongst you who are in a relationship it is now time to think about Saturday, and for those of you who need a little reminder: It's Valentine's day! I will probably be at home analysing excel lists of survey data - thanks a mill to everybody taking my survey - but for those of you looking for a place to go to, my suggestion would be Bewley's Cafe in Grafton Street.

"Over and Over" again?

You love Hot Chip? Did you know that Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip is giving a DJ set in the Tivoli on Saturday night, 20th of December? Start: 9 p.m. Tickets under tickets.ie for 25.00 Euro. "Been to Castle Palooza?"

If you have been to Castle Palooza this summer you probably will remember "Kormac" my favourite act this year. Trashed! on a Tuesday

A few months ago I wrote a blog post about "The Whip" from Manchester. Last week I was told about a club night in town, which reminded me again of them. The name of the club night is trashed!

What can you expect? Finest Indie and Electro music. When is it on? Every Tuesday night. Start: 10:30 till 2:30 Entry: 5 Euro. And for everybody still wondering if they should try it out. There are unbeatable drink offers on the night. It's the! place to get a bottle of beer or a pint for not more than 3 Euro. The night is on in Andrew's Lane. Some background about the night. The club started 4 years ago in Eamon Dorans, moved first to The Hub in Temple Bar, then to Wax on South William Street and is now on in Andrews Lane. Hard Working Class Heroes Festival

You thought after Electric Picnic the festival summer is over? Well, not really, one one of the finest festivals for upcoming bands has not even started yet. Watch out for "Hard Working Class Heroes Festivals" (HWCH) running this weekend from the 12th till the 14th of September in various venues in Dublin inner city.

The festival works as follows. You buy a day ticket for 19,85 Euro or a weekend ticket for 44,98 Euro and can get entry into various venues where you will be able to see nearly 100 bands playing over three days. Interested? Confirmed venues are: Meeting House Square, The Button Factory, 4 Dame Lane, Eamonn Dorans, Andrews Lane and the Academy. What makes HWCH festival special? New Club Night - NoDisko

I'll keep this blog entry short and sweet as I am abroad right now and it is already quite late, but I thought I will still let you know about this launch as it sounds like an evening not to be missed.

This Friday, 5th of September a new Indie and Rock night launches in the Academy (57 Middle Abbey Street) called "NoDisko". Start: 10 p.m. Entry: free till 11.30 p.m, afterwards 5 €. If you need a break from spending your Indie nights at Whelan's and Thomas Reids' here might be the new Friday night alternative.

At the launch night a special DJ Set from Naimh and Podge from Ham Sandwich is waiting for you and moreover Jessie Loveaction from Neosupervital will join them on the decks. In addition NoDisko DJ's will present you the best in Indie and Rock music.

What kind of music exactly will expect you? According to the organizers "a party soundtrack of the world hottest indie, rock & electro pop tunes". August Bamboo Sessions

All regular readers already know what's it all about and for all newcomers here's the description of the organizers: "The Bamboo Sessions is a showcase for the best in new Irish musical talent. Six singer songwriters will join forces with a classical string quartet. Each act will play a twenty minute set of their best songs along with new string arrangements written specially for this show."

Performing are: Vyvienne Long , Íse, Robin James Hurt, Celine Carroll, Jody Trehy and Aidan Murphy. The session take place the coming Saturday, 9th August 2008 @ The Mill Theatre in Dundrum. Special about this round of sessions is that a competition will take place in cooperation with the Redlab studios. One lucky Irish songwriter will have the chance to win three days in a recording studio of Redlab, worth 1500 Euro.

KnockanStockan Festival

Today I walked to work without getting wet and even managed to get a glimpse of sunshine ... this means: The summer has finally arrived! As summer and festivals go very well together today's post will be very festival driven. I personally got a bit put off by the crowds at oxygen last year and decided to look out for some smaller independent festivals featuring the best in local bands.

While surfing the web one festival in particular caught my eye. Have you ever dreamt of having a festival next to a lake and in the middle of the hills? Then KnockanStockan at the Edge of the Blessington Lakes would be the festival for you! KnockanStockan is on the coming weekend from the 25th of July till the 27th of July. Start is Friday 25th of July at 3 p.m. Wondering about the ticket price? Well, unbeatable, three days camping, parking and festival for 50 Euro. Tickets available at www.wavtickets.com.

What kind of music can you expect? Let's say you will be able to see indie bands with huge potential and about which you will most likely say when they will soon be played on the radio: "Oh, them, yeah, already saw them few months ago." Last Question: How do you get there? To get to the festival, take the number 65 bus (leaving from Eden Quay) to Blessington and then catch the shuttle bus to the festival. The Coffee Sessions

The weekend is nearly there ... if you finish early tomorrow why not start it with a nice coffee, a piece of cake and some acoustic music?

The coffee sessions are a biweekly run acoustic afternoon open mic. They start at 5 p.m. and are held in the Starbucks at Harcourt Street (just beside Odeon). The gigs are usually on till 7 p.m. Entry: free. However, donations for the Marie Keating Foundation, which promotes cancer awareness, are welcome.

Little bit background about the coffee sessions. They started on the 16th February 2007 and are open for all singer and songwriters to apply for. Just drop a CD to the guys who are running it or send them a link with your music to their myspace.com/thecoffeesessions

Special about the coffee session is that they are run as all ages gigs as they are in the afternoons and no alcohol is served. This means that musicians do not have to be over 18 to play and neither does the audience to see them playing. Great concept for a great cause. Might see you there tomorrow!

Already been in Andrew's Lane?

Just checked the date of my last blog post, what can I say, nearly a month has past ... to make up for it: I've got some news on one of Dublin's newest music venues Andrew's Lane Theatre.

Let's start with the historical facts. Andrew's Lane used to be a play theatre. Being one of Dublin's most intimate theatre venues it had to close last year and has now been reopened as a music venue. It is located in St. Andrew's Lane (near Dame Street) and to save you from looking for a venue in the middle of the night and pouring rain, like it happened to me, here's the map:

I really like the laid back atmosphere of the venue. Moreover the bar area is big enough that your drink is not constantly spilled all over yourself and the one who just bumped into you. The main music area and its brickstone walls remind of a warehouse. However, not 100% sure how the brickstone walls work together with the sound system and will open this topic up for discussion. Please comment below!

Diverse gigs and club nights will be on. The radio station Phantom Planet is going to host a monthly Indie night in the venue. Keep an eye out for the next event on their website phantom.ie. Moreover there are various gigs planned from e.g. Ballroom of Romance. Andrew's Lane will also be hosting a new house and techno night, called "Rubberband". Open Mic Tuesdays

Couple of weeks ago I introduced you to the singer and songwriter night "Open Mic Tuesdays". I am more than happy to announce that the night will now officially launch and you are all invited to take part. Free Fingerfood and some great acts are waiting for you!

Greystones Theatre

Luan Parle is playing on the opening night of a new theatre/venue in Greystones this upcoming Friday, 6th of June. She will be supported by the Raglans. According to the owners the new theatre will provide "an intimate and atmospheric space, facilitating theatre, drama, live music, comedy nights, children's entertainment, variety shows and film."

Open Mic Tuesdays

and ... we are back again! After taking a little break Dublin Unplugged will be updating you on the newest music nights in Dublin again. I've used the break for a little bit of research and I am looking forward to introduce you to new exciting events in town.

You are probably all busy getting a nice tan on this gorgeous sunny bank holiday. In case you still have some energy left, you could check out "Open Mic Tuesdays" tomorrow. Start: 9 p.m. Entry: Free. It's an open mic where everybody can participate who's got the courage to write the name down on the list to play. Usually around 10 singer and songwriters play per night, but this number can vary as the organizers try to fit everyone in who wants to participate. Write your name down early to make sure you are in. In the last ten months Open Mic Tuesdays had a whole range of performers from complete beginners to Meteor award nominees and winners.

Remains one question open: Where's the night on? It's on in Cassidy's in Westmoreland Street, more specific downstairs in the jazz bar. The Bamboo Sessions are back

Just found out there's more to watch out for this weekend: The Bamboo Sessions are back on the 22nd of March!

The concept of the Bamboo Sessions is as follows: Five singer and songwriters from different backgrounds are performing with a classical string quartet. Each act will play a twenty minute set of their own songs combined with new string arrangements written specially for this show.

Experienced classical string players from the DMT string quartet (Ken Rice, Katie O'Connor, Una O'Kane, Eimear O'Grady) will support the singer and songwriters during the night.

Peanuts in the Café

Food and Music seem to have a special connection in Dublin. After getting to know the Sunday Roast (roast potatoes), King Kong club (bananas) I now found out why the Peanut Club is called Peanut Club. Yep, you will get peanuts and they will be free!

While having a pint and some peanuts you will be entertained with Music, Comedy, Poetry and more. Again an open night with diverse acts and a surprising show.

The Peanut club is located in Hard Rock Cafe, Fleet Street, Temple Bar. Doors open 8 p.m. Start: 8.30 p.m. Entry: 6 Euro. The next Peanut Club will be on Thursday, 13th of March. If you cannot make it this time, have a look at their MySpace for upcoming shows www.myspace.com/thepeanutclub

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend and for those of you who spend it like me mostly behind a computer screen ... Here's an idea: Why not meet for a night out during the week to get some weekend back! My suggestion: "Naked Lunch" in Carnival Bar "a poetry/music open mic night, experimental, expanding and running art into the ground every other Wednesday night (this week Thursday!) upstairs in Carnival Bar, on Dublin's main leisure strip, Wexford Street."

Naked Lunch alternates between songs and poetry, so you get the chance to see singer and songwriters and poets in one night, but most important Naked Lunch provides a stage for all who seek the experience of performing in front of a crowd for the first time. Everybody who wants to perform can put their names on a list and then everybody is going to perform and once everybody has performed a new round starts.

I went for the experience myself and here's what happened: Arrived and only planned to say hello, met a bunch of welcoming people and decided to stay on for half an hour, got a magazine made by Dublin artists, had the chance to listen to 5 singer and songwriter, 4 poets and an electronic performance, was so fascinated that I nearly stayed till the end, before I remembered that I only intended to say hello as i I had to get up early in the morning and finally made my way back home again. It's nearly midnight and I am just back from the launch night of the Zodiac Sessions CD "The potential collection volume 2". An amazing night in an amazing venue. As it is late and it is hard to find the right words I have uploaded some pictures for you instead.
