What a Year

In 2010, I couldn't walk upstairs to our bonus room without breaking a sweat. The wife and I decided to make a change. And that is just what we did. I ran my first 5K in March and just kept going. Cannot wait to see what 2012 holds.

Some friends and I took on Tough Mudder in Tampa this past weekend. Let me tell you, without a doubt, one of the hardest things I have done physically to date. The Monday after Tough Mudder is always "wear your headband to work day" so I had to get in on that action.

This New Life

I think it is obvious by looking at my photo stream that I have not been taking many photos. Other than the client work we have had scheduled, I have not done much by way of photography. In December of 2010 my wife and I made a decision to get healthy. I wont bore you with all of the details, but in my mind, in order for this to really work, I had to put certain things on hold while I focused on my health. Photography was put on the back burner.

I still love photography, always will, but have also discovered some new passions and interests along the way, such as running and CrossFit. The running, which is still a work in progress, has taken me along an interesting journey. My first run back in February was 1.66 miles and I thought I would die. But I kept at it. And kept at it. In November, I completed my first marathon (my wife completed her first half-marathon) and it was an event that I will never forget. I have some exciting plans for the near future and look forward to this new life I have discovered.

I plan to get back into photography, but it will never be done at the expense of my health ever again.

Asociacion obras del Espiritu Santo

This was a lady outside of Asociacion obras del Espiritu Santo during our visit. She had every reason to be upset. One of the worst areas of town, children who have been abused, neglected, and abandoned, etc. But she was not upset. She smiled and seemed thankful for our interest and visit. When I hear the phrase "Pura Vida" it reminds me of the many fun things we did on our trip, such as the cave diving, mountain biking, and zip lines. For me, this woman embodied that with her positive outlook.

Addicted

Out of all of the photos that I took during my trip to Costa Rica, this one stands out the most to me personally. While visiting Asociacion obras del Espiritu Santo we got to interact with some amazing kids. This photo is one of those kids. He is one of two brothers born addicted to drugs. Chances are neither brother will ever see their parents again. During our visit, he was full of life, happy, and smiling. It warmed my heart. As we left and headed downstairs, a volunteer closed the gate to the stairwell. As I walked away I looked back up and saw him standing there and captured this.

This youngster was just great and a natural in front of the camera. I have several great shots of him posing. At one point, when he saw me photographing the desks, he sat down and posed like this. Of course he hopped right back up so he could see the image on the LCD after it was taken.
