I wonder if they'll integrate this into dancing and sex in second life. LOL Now we'll see how you REALLY dance, and if you can do it 3 hours straight like what most people do now. :P

While the Nintendo Wii has garnered attention from consumers and media alike for its innovative motion-based controls, Linden Lab is experimenting with a new way to interact with its Second Life virtual world with nothing more than a Webcam. Codenamed Segalen, the technology makes use of 3D Webcams, such as the ones from 3DVsystems, to track user's body gestures to let them navigate and edit within the environment.

In a YouTube video (embedded below), Second Life creator Mitch Kapor and Kapor Enterprises Inc. employee Philippe Bossut demonstrate the basics of moving around the 3D virtual world without the use of a keyboard or mouse--the traditional interface for most games. They mention that they took some cues from the way people use the Segway personal transport device to map out people's gestures and posture into a 3D world. The technology can also track facial gestures and match them onscreen in real time.

On Bossut's blog he notes that the project has only been in "real" development for a little more than three weeks. Second Life users looking to get their hands on it will have to wait, however, the 3D cameras in use for the project are still not readily available to consumers.

Similar efforts to use Webcams for gaming include the XBOX 360 and its Live Vision camera as well as the Playstation's EyeToy series, although neither had the 3D hardware capability that will give Kapor's Handsfree 3D its extra dimension of spacial control.

Starry Night in Second Life

Caym just recently showed me a Youtube video of Robbie Dingo creating Van Gogh's Starry Night in SL. The video documents him reconstructing the landscape of Starry Night (buildings and stars and all) on a rented sim. The detail and the positioning of objects was amazing, truly an inspiration to SL builders and artists around the grid. Below is a link to the video, I hope you guys enjoy :D

I found this video on youtube of a person claiming you can make $40 a day from Zyngo. It was obviously a scam but I thought I'd post it here to warn people who aren't familiar with Zyngo.

Quoted some of her bullshit from the video:

"You can make a lot of money playing Zyngo at my place"
-I saw her freebie machines, you only get $10L or $20L if you win. And that's if the other people don't beat your score.

"I can't touch my machines, cause they're my machines, that's ethically wrong"
-So is misleading people to think they can make $40 a day at your place.

"You're never gonna lose playing zyngo"
-hahahaha

"The scores that I have on there are sooo easy to beat. all you have to do is play."
-90,000 is nowhere near easy to beat. For zyngo wyld, a score of 55-65k would be fair. 45k-55k being the easy ones to win.

"I make $40 a day, and that's everyday, and that's a guaranteed $40 a day is what I make. I sometimes make more of course."

The place is called "Bunch's Zyngo Wyld" or something like that, by Bunch Creeggan. Stay away from her Zyngo machines, Zyngo is never any good for money making, it's all just for fun. You will never make $40 a day with zyngo... unless you're the owner lol

I'll post part of the Zyngo owner's manual when SL goes back online to show you the stats on winning normal Zyngo games.

Q: What should I set the intial high-score to?
A: This is up to you, and I make a policy not to say the right way to set you pot/percent/payout/score because I don't want to be accused of giving advice that doesn't work for you. That said, you need to balance the initial score with your starting pot and percent contribution. Since you put up the initial stake, obviously this is a concern, but if you put it up too high, nobody will play it. Also, keep in mind, if someone DOES beat your initial score, others will come along to challenge that. But here are some rough figures on winning odds: Players have a 50% chance of beating 16,000. 25% chance of beating 22,000, and 10% chance of beating 26,000.

Recently, I have just found out that good SL photography often goes through heavy editing in order to look more realistic. (Of course, having a good base is also essential.) This doesn't come as much of a surprise given the odd geometric edges that stick out of an avatar. Well, to make a long post short, I gave SL Photo editing a shot.

Mini-Shoot in Gion

After taking shots of Cinnabar in front of a white background for our ad, we decided to take fun shots (one of which I ended up using for the ad) around Gion. Gion is an amazingly beautiful japanese sim (if you guys know of anymore highly photogenic sims, please leave me a note :D). I thank god that my model was willing to stay up until the wee hours of the morning for our shoot. I must say, being the photographer in informal photoshoots around the grid is absolute fun! Though I can't claim to be very good, I'm quite proud of some of the photos I took.
