Cassi learns that Frasier was originally written for one of her favorite actors of all time, John Lithgow, but Lithgow turned it down giving Kelsey Grammer the most prominent role of his acting career. (Honorable mention to Sideshow Bob). Cassi reflects upon John Lithgow’s career and her love for him a bit too long and Matt has to reel her back in. Matt tells Cassi about some of his favorite Cheers episodes which involve Cliff Clavin trying to write a joke for Johnny Carson and another where he almost wins “Jeopardy”. That’s right, at 76, Bob Dylan is still making music and is touring on what he calls “The Never Ending Tour”. Pretty incredible, right? Jonathan and Cassi also talk about their own personal relationship with Dylan’s music, including their favorite albums/songs, going to some of his concerts on the “Never Ending Tour”, watching Martin Scorsese’s documentary, “No Direction Home” and the 2007 film “I’m Not There” where a ton of people play different versions of Bob Dylan including Cate Blanchett and the late Heath Ledger. For instance, why Americans celebrate their Declaration of Independence on July 4th doesn't make much sense. The representatives of the 13 colonies voted on the declaration July 2nd and most of them didn’t sign it until August 2nd. The Liberty Bell was first rung after a public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8th, 1776, and the White House didn’t throw their first Independence Day party until 1801, and made the 4th of July an official holiday in 1870. While the US was figuring it’s hot self out, BBQs and fireworks have been linked with Independence Day since the beginning! John Adams loved fireworks and pitched to the other representatives that there be fireworks every year and everyone said, “Yeah, let’s do it.” BBQs were used to get people to come out to political rallies, eat smoked meats and get excited about separating from Great Britain, fighting in the American Revolution and all that jazz. This is a surprisingly interesting holiday to try to enjoy when most people are upset with the current United States federal government. Enjoy and Happy 4th of July!

Tonya Harding conspired with her husband, Jeff Gillooly, to take Nancy Kerrigan out of the running to compete in the Olympics by whacking her above her right knee cap. The job was poorly done, Nancy recovered in 10 days and was able to compete in the Olympics and win the silver medal. Meanwhile, Tonya went on to compete in the Olympics too and had to perform along side Nancy while the feds were breathing done her neck to figure out what happened. Tonya buckled under pressure, made a big embarrassing show and finished in 8th. The world watched this whole thing go down in real time. What a weird, trashy world we live in! Tonya denies that she had any involvement in harming Nancy while Jeff Gillooly, now Jeff Stone, takes responsibility for his actions, assures Tonya was involved, along with his team of criminal buffoons, Shane Stant, Shawn Eckardt and Shane’s Uncle and getaway driver, Derrick Smith. In 2017, 23 years after this infamous event happened, Margot Robbie is gearing up to play Tonya in the movie, “I Tonya” and everyone involved in the 1994 event, including Nancy Kerrigan, desperately want to get away from it all. Katie and Cassi take some detours to talk about why tourist sites in Hollywood are the worst, Joe’s Crab Shack, Disneyland, the documentary “Searching for Sugarman” and why owning up and letting go of your mistakes will make you a happier, healthier person. Grant and Cassi bond over how they were both in Chess Club back in grade school. (Cassi is way more nerdy about it than Grant.) They talk about the history of chess, how’s it’s evolved, Alan Turing and the Turing Test, Bobby Fischer and his controversy with the US about participating in a chess tournament in the Soviet Union. Cassi’s cats, Meemo and Selma, make a few cameos; and Grant talks about how he hates magic, in chess he uses his self-taught “Might Ducky’s method” and he grossly refers to pawns as nipples. Grant also thinks the fast food chain Wendy’s is way more popular than chess today. Cassi couldn’t disagree more and proves him wrong with facts about how much money the average chess master makes today and how the greatest chess players in the world have more Twitter followers than they ever will.

The Dark Web is a surprisingly large place online that people can ensure anonymity. That doesn’t stop them from talking about how to get on it through sites like Freenet, I2P and Tor. They also get into what goes on the Dark Web like buying drugs, illegal pornography, hiring hitmen, anonymously crowdfunding assassinations, acquiring and spending bitcoins, getting malware, gambling and finding out deep, dark secrets. They even talk about one of the infamous Dark Web leaders, Ross Ulbricht, also known as Dread Pirate Roberts, and how he revolutionized the dark web by being a Darknet market operator with his dark web business, “The Silk Road”. He had a net worth of $28.5 million before he was caught by the FBI and is now spending the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. Is the punishment too harsh? Carrie and Cassi think so. They also get off topic and talk about anarchy and their gripes with money, their deep twisted love for true crime (shout out to Sword and Scale, True Crime Brewery and My Favorite Murder), comedy and why everyone, including the US government, should go to therapy.

Instead of going into spoilers and the full story of “Saga”, Dave encourages listeners to go out there and pick up a copy at their local comic book store! Cassi and Dave talk about the beginning of the series, some of the characters, some controversy in the artwork like in Issue #12 and the cover of the very first “Saga”issue. They also talk about the distribution company Image and how it split from Marvel in 1992. Dave goes into a rant on why he doesn’t buy DC and Marvel comics because of their ad placement. For example, you’re getting into your comic about Superman or Robin and then Nick Lachey from 98 Degrees appears to sell you a Twix bar! Not cool. They talk the comic book series “Preacher” and compare the great use of narration in “Saga” to the not so great use of narration in the movie “Road to Perdition”. Dave and Cassi also get into writing, acting and how to give it your all by using advice from such mentors as Stephen King and Bob Odenkirk. They also talk about establishing great partnerships for collaboration and when to do a project solo. Give it a listen and you may find yourself going to your nearest comic book store to pick up “Saga”, and then sitting in front of your computer to begin a writing project of your own.

They also talk about how Veronica’s childhood home was haunted, how to detect if your house is haunted or if it’s a faulty air conditioner, bad lighting or carbon monoxide. They also give shoutouts to the movies “The Others” and “The Strangers”, and how “In N Out” has “John 3:16” on all their takeout bags. Cassi’s cat Meemo inserts himself into the show and ruffles through a paper bag.

Seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator and not Howard Langston from “Jingle All the Way” really changed her opinion about him. He’s a total badass as The Terminator! Charlie gets down to business and talks about his love for The Terminators movies and why the newest one, “Terminator Genisys”, is the worst. They talk about the career of rags-to-$1.79 billion-net-worth-riches James Cameron and how “Avatar” and “Titanic” are the top two highest grossing movies of all time. James Cameron directed both films along with “Terminators 1 & 2”, “Aliens”, “The Abyss”, “True Lies”, etc. His married life is not so great but Cassi takes time up top to talk about why all the women he’s been married to are total badasses especially film producer Gale Ann Hurd and film director, Kathryn Bigelow. James Cameron was also briefly married to Linda Hamilton, the actress who orginiated Sarah O’Conner. The talk of the Terminator movies also gets Charlie and Cassi talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger running for California state governor while shooting “T3: Rise of the Machines”, alternative casting like OJ Simpson was originally considered for the role of the Terminator and Arnold was going to play Kyle Reese. They also talk about the other actors in the film like Linda Hamilton, Edward Fulong, Michael Biehn and the late, great Bill Paxton. Other fun topics include Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Star Wars, Harrison Ford crashing airplanes, Indiana Jones, Rocky and other aging heroes, Shia LaBeouf, Miles Teller and Red Letter Media. 7. Steven Ray Morris & Body Farms

Today’s episode is all about body farms with Steven Ray Morris! ("The Purrrcast", "My Favorite Murder", "Mother, May I Sleep With Podcast"). Body farms are facilities used for the study of decomposition of human remains. Steven and Cassi talk about the history of how body farms got started with the first body farm, also called anthropological research facility, back in 1971 with anthropologist William M. Bass. There are now six in the United States and one just opened in Amsterdam in 2016. The aim of these farms is to gain a better understanding of the decomposition process and for forensic purposes, to permit the development of techniques for extracting information (such as the timing and circumstances of death) from human remains. Pretty cool right?! And if that’s not dark enough for you Cassi goes through the process of how the body decomposes while Steven and Cassi both drink some whiskey to help take in such realities of when the body dies, the blood stops circulating and solidifies, the skin changes color, organs decompose, there’s bloating, blistering and gases inside erupt and everything liquifies eventually leaving behind a skeleton. Fun! But don’t worry, that’s not all they talk about! They also talk about Dr. Pimple Popper, Steven’s hot tips on how to tell a New Zealand accent from an Australian one, the process of getting verified on Twitter, feminist writers like Zelda Fritzgerald, Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath and Virginia Woolf and which one you would want to go out as, the famous and possibly haunted Comedy Store and how our cats would eat us if we dropped dead in our house. Yeah, the conservation always finds it way back to dead bodies. Steven and Cassi talk fondly about crazy stories of people dying in their home and not being found for more that a year or longer like Joyce Vincent and Yvette Vickers. They also talk about the murder of Skylar Neese and contemplate what it would be like if hospitals microchipped us so as soon as we died, they would be notified and would be able to find our body quickly after death. Cassi and Steven also take time to talk fondly of people they have lost in their lives. It’s a deep and as lighthearted-as-it-can-be episode. Enjoy!

Hannah picked the Titanic because she loves the movie and is convinced she died on the Titanic in a past life. (Cassi had to go to a lot of 6th grade birthday parties that were Titanic screening parties…) They of course get into the real ship itself and why it was such a historic triumph and tragedy. The sinking of the Titanic forever changed safety regulation of ships and a year after the Titanic sank, these changes in regulation saved it’s sister ship, the HMHS Britannic, from having as many casualties when she hit an underwater mine that was set there at the start of World War 1. They also talk about how whiskey saved a lot of lives, the circumstances of the sinking and how the Titanic made the grave mistake of not having any cats on board which was considered good luck. Yikes! Hannah and Cassi also get into airplane and cruise ship life hacks, getting in touch with your emotions and crying during movies like the “Titanic" and “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”, as well as Elon Musk’s Simulation Theory and do we have free will, 90s kid commercials and other forgotten kid movies like the Ewok movies, “The Gnome Mobile” and “Opus and Bill’s Christmas Special”. It’s a fun, nerdy time!

It’s fun, dark stuff! Clark and Cassi also get into the history of Greek storytelling with Homer, “The Odyssey”, the origin and function of myth and the importance of the Olympics and competition between city-states. (Why can’t sports in America be like that today?) They also get into the movie and graphic novel “300”, the differences and similarities of religions especially between Christianity and Greek Mythology, the Golden Rule, the TV shows “The Crown” and “The Tudors”, Christopher Reeves, Christopher Robin and historian, Allan Lichtman, who predicted that Donald Trump would win the presidency using his system the “13 Keys”. They also find out they both lived in Anaheim for a bit. Shout out to the Anaheim Angels and the Linbrook Bowling Alley! They also reveal Clark’s biggest secret of all: his name is not really Clark.

Lucé and Cassi try not to give up too easy. Instead they try to understand quantum physics more by talking about thought experiments and interesting theories like Schrondinger’s Cat, the Spooky Effect, black holes and how the sun would still be as hot if it was made out of bananas.
