Being courteous isn't something we do only when we are in a good mood and when things are going our way. Being courteous is a way of life and treating people with courtesy should be something that we do all the time.

How many of us have had a bad day and taken that opportunity to "give someone a piece of our mind?" ... All of us have done it at some time or another. But does that make it right? NO!

Proverbs 12:18 reads "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." This should be our daily mission... to take the best of ourselves and give it to the people around us - treating them with courtesy and kindness - bringing healing!

Dunamis Karate News - May 2010

We will be closed May 31st for Memorial Day. No classes will be held that day!

Congratulations to our New Black Belt Ranks: Brian Creech 1st Degree CKD Black Belt; DeAndre Brown, 2nd Degree CKD Black Belt; Alex Gardner, 3rd Degree CKD Black Belt; & Andi Woods 3rd Degree CKD Black Belt. These students were tested and promoted by the CKD Region 7 Board of Directors on April 16-17 at Club Karate in Beaufort, SC.

Demo Team - We will practice every Monday this month except 5/31.

Extreme Team – We will not have practice May 7th or May 14th due to karate tournaments on those weekends!

Karate Tournaments: Several of our students will be participating in the Black Belts for Christ Summerville tournament on May 8th and/or the Carolina Martial Arts Open on May 14th-15th in Columbia. We will post the results on our website/facebook when the competition is done!

Summer Schedule: Starting June 1st we will begin our Summer Schedule. We will reduce the number of classes combining classes together to keep class attendance high over the summer. Check the Dunamis Karate website for details!

Summer Karate Camps: We have several karate camps planned this summer. All camps are open to existing students and non students. The first camp will be a Tiny Tiger Camp for ages 3-6 on Wed. June 2nd. This camp is only $40. Each of the other camps will be for ages 6 and up and will be 3 hours long and cost $50 each. Pre-Register by May 20th, and save $10 on any camp. Pre-Register for all 5 “big kid” camps by May 20th and pay only $150. The camp themes and dates are listed below:

Chun Kuk Do Black Belt Tests

Brian Creech will test for his 1st Degree Chun Kuk Do Black Belt tonight at 6:30pm. Please keep him in your prayers!

Also, DeAndre Brown, testing for 2nd, Alex Gardner & Andi Woods, testing for 3rd, will stand before the regional board on Saturday at 9:00am.

Pray for each of these candidates to have peace and clarity of mind, endurance to make it through the test, and power & precision in all their techniques!!

Summer T-shirts

During the summer months of May through September, students are allowed to wear a Dunamis Karate t-shirt in place of the full gi top. Only Dunamis Karate, Chun Kuk Do, or Black Belts for Christ t-shirts are allowed. If you do not have one of these tees, you must wear the full uniform including the gi top.

Right now we are taking pre-orders for our newest t-shirt design for summer 2010. Order before April 15 and save $ off the normal price.

Mission Trip

One of our Black Belts is going on a mission trip this summer ... You can help.

Hi! My name is Dani Neiderhiser and I am going on a mission trip this summer to Nazlini, Arizona. It is a Navajo Indian community, and I will be going with other teens from South Carolina Nazarene Youth International. We will be doing work projects on the church property in the mornings and helping out at a VBS (Vacation Bible School) for the children there in the evenings.

I am excited to go on this mission trip but I need to raise funds. That’s where I need your help. I would like to work for you for donations toward my mission trip. I could do yard work, do laundry, do dishes, babysit, etc.

These will be geared towards the Orange belt and above, but all may watch. Master Alice McCleary will guide us to better blocks and punches. Master Hammersley will help develop the warrior mind set. Master Hensley will join with the rest of the Board teaching fantastic finishes.

Spring Break Boot Camp #1

We had 3 students participate in the Spring Break Boot Camp #1, Emma, Dustin & Jared. It was a tough 4 days of training ... 4 hours each day. The students sharpened their traditional skills, learned some new one steps and a new kata. They worked on break falls and forward & backward rolls. They learned some kicknastics ... Emma & Jared, by the way, can now do a very nice cartwheel. We practiced some grappling as well as the nunchucks. I have posted several videos and photos from the camp on our facebook page

The kids were real troopers, even though they were tired, they pushed through to the end and will very likely do well enough on their belt testing in a few weeks to skip a belt! Over the course of the four day camp the kids did a minimum of 500 jumping jacks, 500 situps, 250 pushups and 50 laps! WOW - that in itself is quite an accomplishment!!

I am so proud of each of them and how hard they worked!

Spring Break Boot Camp #2 – (timed with the private schools) – begins Monday, April 5 – Thursday April 8^th Camp curriculum will consist of traditional skills, extreme skills, falls & rolls, grappling, weapons, board breaking & more! Students who participate in the camp will have logged in 16 hours of extra training and will be eligible to “skip a belt” during their next belt test in April. The camp is open to any student age 6 and up. The cost of each camp is only $125. We will take a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 kids for each camp, so if you are interested, please stop by the pro-shop A.S.A.P.

Chun Kuk Do Black Belt Test & Workouts – We will have regional Black Belt tests & workouts Friday & Saturday, April 16-17^th at Club Karate in Lady’s Island. If you have never seen a Black Belt test live, you have no idea just how difficult it is. This test is very close to home so it’s a great time for you to come check it out. There will also be workouts for the under belt students. The workouts are FREE to all UFAF members. (If you are not a member of UFAF, please stop by the pro-shop for information on how to join so you can participate.) More information about the schedule of events will be available soon.

Belt Testing – April 19^th & 20^th … Students will be evaluated for their new belts. For all those being promoted in rank we will have a graduation ceremony on Friday, April 23^rd at 5:30pm. Please make sure all tuition is up to date, promotion form and test fee are paid prior to test date. No student will be allowed to test if behind in payments or class attendance, or if behavior at home and school do not meet parent & teacher approval.

Demo Team – We will practice every Monday in April at 7pm… on 4/26 we will hold demo tryouts.

Karate Demo – Sat., Apr. 24^th at 10 am - Blue Heron Nature Trail for the 13^th Annual Lawn & Garden Festival.

Masters Club – For the next three months, we will be training in Brazilian JiuJitsu. All students will need to bring a cross over gi top (not the V-necks) for this class!

Last year our Spring Break Boot Camp was a HUGE success. We had 7 kids attend the camp … sharpening their existing skills and learning new ones … in four days of fun and intense training.

This year we will have 2 spring break boot camps … because the local schools will be having Spring Break at different times.

The first camp would be March 29th through April 1st, the 2nd camp would be April 5th through 8th. Camp hours will be 9am until 1pm each day.

Camp curriculum will consist of traditional skills, extreme skills, falls & rolls, grappling, weapons, board breaking & more!

Students who participate in the camp will have logged in 16 hours of extra training and will be eligible to “skip a belt” during their next belt test in April.

The camp is open to any student age 6 and up. The cost of each camp is only $125.

We will take a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 kids for each camp, so if you are interested, please stop by the pro-shop A.S.A.P.

Birthday Bash

BBFC Jacksonville Tournament

Five students from Dunamis Karate traveled to Jacksonville, FL this weekend for the first Black Belts For Christ tournament of the 2010 season. I hope to have their stats posted soon. March 2010 News

Demo Team – We will practice every Monday in March at 7pm. (We have a “potential” demo scheduled for March 27th at Thomas Heyward Academy for their “Spring Fling” … Stay tuned for details.)

Extreme Team – No practice March 5th due to CKD Black Belt Pre-Test filming

Masters Club – We will begin training with the Kamas this month. If you do not already have a pair of kamas, please stop by the pro-shop and make arrangements A.S.A.P.

Black Belts for Christ – 1st tournament of the 2010 season is March 6th in Jacksonville. The next BBFC tournament will be May 8th in Summerville, SC.

Birthday Bash – Mrs. Woods’ birthday is on March 18th. We will have a small celebration on Saturday, March 20th from 6pm-7pm. Join us for cake and/or ice cream.

Class Cancelled - Jr. Black Belt class is Cancelled for Thursday, March 4th. We will still have all Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes and Jr. Sparring. We will be filming the 2nd & 3rd Degree pre-test beginning at 6pm after the Jr. Sparring.
