Love this simple list app for the iPhone. I have tried many but to date this is my fave. the design is simple and elegant as all good iPhone apps should be.I finally hid the default "notes" app because i am sick of the yellow legal pad metaphor. Click the + button, add a title, a description if needed - including bullet points, color code it and save. that's it. there are more features but right now that is just perfect for me. check them out at http://www.scttrbrn.com

the Camera+ App for iPhone really does a great job applying canned effects to enhance so-so photos. Shot on a cab ride to JFK airport.

Photo taken in the woods. I composed the skull and Jawbones on a rock and left it there. Taken and altered using only the Camera + iPhone app. This app is awesome for getting some fantastic image results.

WAs out walking today and came across this surface find in a dry stream bed. According to the book, this is known as a "Pedernales" point. Which makes it Middle archaic period 2000 B.C. to 1200 B.C.!
These are supposedly common to this area. I have found a few broken pieces in the same area but this is by far my most complete find to date!

The point exactly as i found it.

Today I found this fantastic arrow point on a hike. After looking this point up in my Texas Artifact Field Guide it seems to be of the "Perdiz" variety dating from the late prehistoric period 1200-1500 A.D. Common throughout Texas, these small points were used for bird hunting. (perdiz is spanish for partridge)

Amazing to think that someone hand crafted this tiny piece of flint only to be used and lost. Notice the tiny serrated edge. What is even more amazing is that i found it in a bed of identical size and color rocks. The proverbial needle in the haystack!

Usually the spear points and flint tools i find are much larger. I think after looking for so long you get used to flint catching your eye. It can be found in several colors; whitish grey, like this point, charcoal grey/black, a mottled blue and a toffee colored brown. It shines more than the native sandstone that covers the area where i live.That said, it is still difficult to look for leaf shaped hand-made objects in the woods.

Great Hike Tracker

Finally found a hike tracking App for iPhone that does exactly what i want without all the extra junk. It's called HikeMateGPS. simple, elegant and useful. I used on a small hike today and worked fantastic. just hit start, and it runs in background mode. Add way points with pictures or notes, multiple map views and social media announcements if you so desire to let everyone know where you are. Currently its a free download in the iTunes App store.

Crack the Skye

Just got the new Mastodon DVD + CD "live at the Aragon" which includes the entire "Crack the skye" concept album. What is very cool is you have the option to watch only the concept films that plays behind them. very nice visuals! Mastodon is by far THE best progressive metal band of this era.

Caught this beautiful Largemouth Black Bass today. First cast in the water and bam! I did not have a scale but it was quite fat and heavy at least 6lbs. Caught on a bitsy jig with a Grande Bass worm in about 2 feet of water.
I practice CPR (catch, photograph, release) my son took the photo and i released back to the depths of Lake Travis. best fish of the year so far!

I got to be an extra in a low budget zombie movie called "Kontainment". it was a lot of waiting around in makeup in Austin suburbia, but was pretty fun, met some nice folks and we got to be undead on a Sunday morning.

Hans von X from the new Incursion RPG game. From the figure's description: "Hans von X is the eldest of the von X children. Hugo’s early experiments on him went horribly wrong and a monster was created. Hans is at peace wandering the channel floor of the straits of Gibraltar, losing himself in the contemplative loneliness of the briny deep. He is melancholy and childishly sweet but prone to fits of blood rage and insensibility. He is at the vanguard of the bomber zombies as they make their attack runs on allied shipping and keeps a collection of frog-men skulls he has harpooned at Gibraltar’s undersea gates. In the tunnels, he hunts APE."

This is the first figure I have painted for this cool sci-fi historical fiction game. He's Zombie German aligned and I'm going to outfit him with Nazi decals from some WWII Luftwaffe planes and put him on a sea bottom base. He's mounted on the bottom of a 35mm film canister filled with sand. This helps balance the weight as I move it around while painting. I'll post more as he progresses.

Just found this on Amazon. I 've had several of these over the years and it's just one of those tools you wish you had in a bind. it attached to a key ring and looks exactly like a key when closed. just having a blade and a screwdriver has helped me in many situations. pick one up.
I found a replacement one at a gun and knife show for $5

This makes just as much sense for user interface design. the SIMPLEST thing is the right thing. people make it too complicated. This is not to say that a lot of thought sometimes needs to go into how to make that happen, but 9 out of 10 the simplest solution is the right solution.
Find that your project is getting too complicated? consult a designer or another professional relevant to the project content to give you a fresh set of eyes.
