Very often we receive questions about how to promote new website and get more visitors. While it�??s easy enough creating new website from zero, everything becomes much more complicated when it comes to website promotion, online advertising and traffic. There is no wonder, because website promotion requires lots of skills and experience, and not all webmasters know how to start.

This guide was written to help you attracting more visitors and increasing website traffic. It should be useful for newbies and advanced users, because this guide covers most aspects of successful site marketing and most of methods are explained step by step. However, if you believe some methods are above your technical skills, don�??t worry. Just skip these methods and continue to other. So enough chit chat, let�??s get started!

#1 �?? Search Engines Traffic.
Natural (or organic) traffic is type of traffic coming from all major search engines. If any visitor searches for some kind of information and finds your site in results, you get organic traffic! Unfortunately, it can be really hard (depending on your niche) to get website listed in the top of search engines. So one of things you may want to do �?? submit your URL to all major search engines manually. Usually just visit any search engine (where you want URL to be submitted) and type something like �??submit URL�?? into search box. Engine will surely return a page where you may submit your URL for indexing. If your sites contains sitemap file (like sitemap.html or sitemap.xml), be sure to submit sitemap file as well - it will speed up whole indexing process.

#2 �?? Links Exchange.
External links never hurt. The more websites will link to you, the more traffic you will get. It�??s that simple! Swapping links is easy enough. All you need to do �?? find related websites and contact their webmasters asking to exchange text links with you. Ask webmaster to add your link to his site, and do the same for him. However, try exchanging text links with high quality sites only. Having links on junk site (which has low number of visitors) will not help much. It�??s better to have one link from big website instead of having 10 links from tiny sites, remember it when looking for links exchange partners. If you want to know what is the easiest way finding links exchange partners, do this - visit www.dmoz.org, select category related to your website, and then simply email webmasters of sites you like. Another way to find link partners is searching on Google.com for your top keywords. For example if you are willing to rank for "blue widgets", go to google.com and do a search for this keyword. You will get a list of top websites now try to contact owners of these websites and request link exchange.

#3 �?? Link Directories.
There are thousands of link directories on the Internet. Some of them are free, and others are paid. This time we will focus on free directories only. Having links on directories not only helps increasing search engine rankings, but also help getting more visitors who come from directories to your site directly. The biggest free directory on the Internet is dmoz.org, but it accepts only very high quality websites. If you believe your site is really high quality, try submitting it to dmoz.org. Also you can find other directories easily. Just go to Google (or another favorite search engine) and type �??free link directories�??, "link directory", "backlinks directory", "links exchange directory" or something similar into search box. You will find hundreds of link directories waiting for your submission!

#4 �?? Social Networks.
Social bookmarking networks works in similar way like link directories, but there are some differences too. The main difference from link directories is popularity. Social networks get millions of visits per day, so you may get more traffic too. However, to become successful in social networking, your site must contain high quality content. When you submit your URL to social site, other visitors can rate it. If rating is high, your URL is moved into main page where more people can see it. Adding links to social networking sites also will help getting better rankings in search engines. This work is pretty hard, so you may submit URLs manually or use any automated social bookmarks submitter software �?? it�??s up to you. Different forums have different rules, and if your message will not comply to these rules, your account will be banned and message deleted. Recently I�??ve been talking to a couple of friends who are interested in embracing blogs as a marketing tool for their business, and the general picture I get is that they would tell me �??Yeah yeah, I�??ve got a blog, but it doesn�??t seem to bring in any traffic�?��??, or �??Yeah, people are reading, but it seems like people are not leaving comments�?��??

Well, I guess we need to uncover some myths about blog marketing.
#1 Blogs are not instant traffic generators!

You need to market your blog! Yes most blog platforms come with the functionality to ping services to get word out. But there are 70 million blogs, as reported by Sifry�??s State of the Live Web Report in April 2007! Pinging alone is not enough, its far from enough! You need to participate in the blogosphere, go submit your blog in blog directories, participate in forums, write articles�?� well, there are a thousand and one ways to market the blog, and these are just a few.

The more effort you put in to market your blog, the more traffic you will get. Period.
#2 Blogs are not official articles, press releases, reports or white papers!

People are sick of reading reports and articles written from a third party perspective, and blogs engage their readers because they are written in a conversational voice. Because even though you�??ve never heard my voice, you can hear ME talking to you right now, not a boring article educating or informing you on the myths of blog marketing. Blogs are informal. To put it in a crude way, information on blogs are not facts! They are opinions.

But then you say, �??Well then, how can I trust the things I read on blogs then?�??

You can�??t. Seriously. The world of blogs don�??t work in the same way as the world of white papers and government regulations. If there is only ONE blog in this whole wide world, then it won�??t be a blog. The blogosphere is about a global network of opinions that is self regulating. While opinions on a single blog may be unreliable, the self-regulating forces of the blogosphere are there to make the necessary corrections�?� and if 70 million people around the world think that something is right, then well, there is a huge possibility that something is right, don�??t you agree?

Well unless that is a fact, I�??m pretty sure there will be someone somewhere will come up and write a comment and say �??Hey Kian Ann, I beg to differ�??, or say �??Hey Kian Ann! Horses are not stupid! YOU are stupid! �?? �?� and that is exactly why this global network of opinions is so powerful.

Yesterday someone asked me what a Trackback was, how it works, and then after explaining, asked me how to do a trackback in Blogger. I understand that some blogging terms are apparently not very easy to understand, especially for the not-so-IT-savvy.

Let me clarify. Well. To put it simply, A trackback or pingback is a �??remote comment�??!

It would be clear with an example�?� For example, Mary has a blog and one day she posts about her new spaghetti recipe. Then, a day later, Amy (the spaghetti lover) was searching on the net for new spaghetti recipes and she found Mary�??s post! Immediately, she tried out the recipe and cooked a brilliant meal for herself and her family. Amy writes a post in her blog about Mary�??s recipe and sends a trackback to Mary�??s post permalink. Now, when this happens, Amy�??s post will appear as one of the comments under Mary�??s post!

As simple as that! Of course, some blogs differentiate trackbacks and comments, some don�??t.
WordPress Trackbacks

In WordPress, the default setting is that whenever you post any link, WordPress will automatically check if they are blog posts and if they are, send a trackback. Apart from that, Wordpress also has a trackback field to specify trackbacks to send to.

You can change this setting in your WordPress admin panel. Go to Options -> Discussion. The setting is �??Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)�??
Blogger Trackbacks

The interesting thing is that blogger does not support this feature! I didn�??t know that (while I was still using my blogger blog, I still haven�??t learnt about trackbacks)

I�??ve searched the net and I came across this useful alternative to send trackbacks in blogger. Does it work? I�??m not sure yet.

The solution requires you to use an extension in Firefox by the name of GreaseMonkey, plus a userscript (a piece of Javascript essentially) to add functionality to Blogger.

Another one I bumped across is Haloscan, which seems to me like a better and faster solution.

Seorang distributor dalam jaringan saya bertanya, �??Saya sudah melakukan presentasi 2 kali seminggu selama 2 bulan, tapi belum juga ada yang bergabung dalam bisnis network-marketing saya. Saya rasa saya tidak cocok di bisnis ini.�??

Jika Anda juga mengalami hal di atas, mungkin saja �??ilmu merekrut�?? Anda masih belum cukup. Mungkin di bulan-bulan pertama Anda masih perlu melakukan 20 presentasi untuk merekrut satu distributor. Tetapi dengan latihan yang cukup dan bimbingan dari mentor dan upline Anda, kemungkinan besar �??ilmu merekrut�?? Distributor yang tidak berkomunikasi dengan prospek yang tepat : Seringkali distributor network-marketing menghabiskan terlalu banyak waktu dengan prospek yang tidak tepat. Tipe prospek yang tepat adalah orang-orang aktif yang berpikiran positif dan selalu berusaha supaya lebih sukses. Tipe orang-orang ini seringkali bergaul dengan orang-orang sukses lainnya yang selalu berpikiran positif dan berusaha supaya lebih maju.

Supaya Anda dapat merekrut orang-orang sukses, Anda juga harus mempraktekkan kebiasaan orang-orang sukses dengan cara belajar mengembangkan kepribadian melalui training-training yang sering diadakan oleh upline dalam organisasi maupun perusahaan network-marketing yang Anda jalankan.
Distributor yang tidak berkomunikasi dengan benar ke prospek : Dalam kegiatan prospekting dan rekruting, kita harus mengutamakan kepentingan prospek. Kita harus sadar bahwa peluang bisnis yang kita tawarkan haruslah sesuai dengan apa yang mereka inginkan. Jangan sampai kita memaksakan kehendak kepada seorang prospek / calon distributor. Jika kita terlalu memaksakan supaya prospek bergabung dengan bisnis network-marketing kita, bisa saja mereka setuju untuk bergabung dan membayar uang keanggotaan karena segan untuk menolak. Akan tetapi, jika mereka tidak mengembangkan bisnis mereka setelah bergabung secara resmi, maka perkembangan bisnis network-marketing Anda tetap akan terhambat.

Distributor yang terlalu banyak bicara : Orang-orang tertentu memiliki kebiasaan untuk terlalu banyak bicara. Seharusnya kegiatan rekruting memiliki porsi presentasi dan tanya jawab yang seimbang. Artinya : kegiatan rekruting merupakan kegiatan dua-arah. Jangan mendominasi kegiatan rekruting dengan presentasi Anda. Supaya terjadi interaksi yang sehat, ada baiknya Anda menanyakan poin-poin tertentu kepada prospek / calon distributor, atau mereka diberikan kesempatan untuk mengajukan pertanyaan. Jika Anda mendominasi kegiatan rekruting dengan presentasi dari Anda yang bersifat se-arah, ada kemungkinan prospek / calon distributor menjadi antipati terhadap peluang bisnis yang Anda tawarkan.
