Maaikes Blanket

Tommorow is my daughters birthday.

She had only one wish...

A soft crochet blanket for on the couch

I used SMC merino extra fine 120 for the border and joining the squares

The size of the blanket is 110 by 110 cm.

I hope she likes it!

Finally the cushion is finished!!

It started with a small design

and tiny crochet squares...

And more tiny squares...

and more.....

441 to be precise Pffff...

Then it was time for the edging

And here it is..

and I love it!!

This is how a corner of my craft room looked like

Well, in a former lifetime that is :)

nice and pretty folded piles of fabric.

An empty cutting area and enough space to move around.

I don't want to scare you with today's pictures.

So therefor i'm not showing any.

Currently my craftroom is under construction

The walls get a new coat of paint

and i want to do a little reorganisation.

I show the after photos soon as the room is finished.

There is a lot to sort out.

First there were two...

And in a day they were with 5!

Toadstools, leaves, spiders....

and some incredible creative,

hedgehogs!

They are the best 4 and 5 year old artists!

Day at the museum

Yesterday we visited the "Dutch open air museum" in ArnhemIt's a park where you can experience Holland in a single day.It was a bit of grey and wet but we still had a fun day.

We walked around the park

Zaanstreek

Typical green houses

small farm Harreveld

Hop on and off on a tram

several stops around the park

Beautiful scenery

tall trees in autumn colors

A woman in Marken costume demonstrate weaving

The interior of the small Marken home was as colorful as her clothes

And off course..windmills

It was a lovely day

We'll definitely come back!

Our mother made this gorgeous cross-stitch sampler motif

She kept it in a box and forget all about it

Thought it's too pretty to leave it there

so I dug it out.

Then went searching for matching fabrics

and now I go decide how to combine this all together.Have a great day!

I make it cozy inside and doing some crochet

New front for a bag. I use off-white as background for this one.

Crochet versus Embroidery

I realy, realy LOVE doing both..

I use wool tapestry yarn on burlap
(Maybe these flowers end up in a bag?)

The same tapestry wool i use for my tiny squares mosaic.

Those tiny squares are more work than i realized

And just noticed..i use the color purple a lot!
I'm off finishing the last cross stitches..

What to do with all those lose ends and leftovers from previos projects?

Are you also a collector of bits and pieces?

Well I found a solution...

Crochet tiny squares

You can use colors randomly

Or more organized
for example
in a "trip around the world" pattern..

or make your own pattern ...

It's a lot fun watching it grow square by square..

There is only one minus....all those lose ends!!

Little folklore quilt

This little folklore quilt is made from

cut out embroidery pieces of an old tablecloth

and lovely red-white-pink and blue printed fabrics.

it turned out looking fresh, bright and cheerful

It's always so much fun to assemble these little quilts

by going through all the fabric piles.

Also a good reason to tidy up the place a bit..

I posted about this book on my previous blog about 6 years ago.

Every now and then I pick it from the shelf

and browse through it looking for new flowers i can crochet

the book contains both simple and more advanced patternsI try the complicated ones but somehow I miss the skills.

Love to make a large vase with flowers one day..

i used in this retro blanket

So here it is

my first attempt...

the Retro Block Pattern

Make as many circles as you want for a cushion or a blanket

Crochet the circles into squares with the

" join as you go method " my all time favorite method....
